MEET NOTES Today The No. 4 ranked Utah gymnasts (9-1, 5-0 Pac-12) host No. 2 UCLA (9-0, 5-0 Pac-12) in the #GetWiggyWithUs Red Out at 1:30 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. The meet will be aired on the Pac-12 Networks and ESPN 700 radio. Wig Out at the Red Out As part of the Red Out promotion and to raise funds for the Dumke Gymnastics Center expansion, fans are encouraged to wear red wigs to Saturday’s meet against UCLA. The first 500 students will receive free red wigs courtesy of America First Credit Union. Wigs may be purchased online (http://tinyurl.com/yyzvhr3w) or at Red Zone locations on campus, as well as in the Sandy store and at URedZone.com. All proceeds from the sale of the wigs will go toward the Dumke Gymnastics Center expansion fund … The Kid Zone features a face painter, balloon artist, life-size Swoop Bobblehead, poster making station and more. In the Rankings Utah is No. 4 for the sixth straight week in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) rankings, which are based on total season average for the last time this season. Next Monday, the rankings will move to regional qualifying score. The Utes are No. 2 in the nation on vault, No. 4 on floor, No. 7 on bars and No. 7 on beam. MyKayla Skinner is No. 2 on vault, No. 5 in the all-around, No. 8 (tie) on bars and No. 10 on floor. MaKenna Merrell-Giles is No. 6 (tie) on vault, No. 13 in the all-around and No. 17 (tie) on floor. Macey Roberts is tied for 17th on vault, while Kari Lee is No. 22 on beam. Injured Cristal Isa, currently No. 21 (tie) on bars and No. 23 (tie) on beam, will drop out next week when the rankings move to RQS. Red Hot Rivalry Utah and UCLA have combined to win six of the seven Pac-12 Championships to date. Utah won conference titles in 2014, 2015 and 2017, while UCLA’s titles came in 2012, 2016 and 2018 … Utah’s MyKayla Skinner and UCLA’s Madison Kocian were members of the 2016 U.S. Olympic team (Skinner as an alternate). UCLA’s Kyla Ross was a 2012 U.S. Olympian … There will be three NCAA champions competing in the Huntsman Center on Saturday: Skinner (vault and floor), Ross (bars and beam) and Katelyn Ohashi (floor).

Chalk Talk The 2019 Utes have set a school record for consecutive 197 scores, picking up their eighth in as many meets with their 197.125-195.800 win at Stanford on Feb. 18. Prior to this year, Utah had never put together multiple 197 scores to start a season … MyKayla Skinner’s three victories at Stanford on Monday brought her career win total to 97 and moved her within one win of third place in the Ute record books behind former Ute great Missy Marlowe (98, 1989-92). The school record is 120 by Ashley Postell (2005-08) … Utah leads the nation in attendance average (14,770) and has the two biggest gymnastics crowds in the country this year (15,558 vs. Arizona and California) … Individual winners are Skinner (20), MaKenna Merrell-Giles (7) , Kari Lee (4), Adrienne Randall (3), Missy Reinstadtler (2), Alexia Burch (1) and Cristal Isa (1) … The Utes have hit 184-of-191 routines … Gymnasts who have hit every routine without a fall are Skinner (29-29), Lee (28-28), Macey Roberts (16-16), Randall (14-14), Hunter Dula (7-7), Isa (7-7) and Shannon McNatt (6-6). Ute Insider Kari Lee, whose four wins on beam and No. 22 national ranking lead the Utes, moved from fourth to first in the lineup at Stanford to assure a good start. It was the first time in her career that Lee led off on beam. She has started on the event since her freshman season when she earned second-team All-America honors … MyKayla Skinner has competed on floor just once in the last four meets to rest a sore ankle. In her only appearance on floor during that stretch, she tied for first at the GymQuarters Invitational on Feb. 15 with a 9.90. Skinner is expected to compete on floor and in the all-around vs. UCLA … Kim Tessen competed on floor for the first time since her freshman year against Stanford on Monday, scoring a career-tying 9.825. She also earned her best vault score (9.90) since 2017 in the meet … Sophomore Lauren Wong saw her first action of the year at Stanford in exhibition on vault ... Missy Reinstadtler (foot) has resumed training on beam. She has been limited to bars for the last five meets … Skinner has been named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week three times this season (Jan. 8, Jan. 23, Jan. 29). Cristal Isa was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Jan. 8 and Adrienne Randall was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Feb. 5.

JON M. HUNTSMAN CENTER

T

he most famous college gymnastics facility in the country, Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center has showcased more major collegiate gymnastics meets than any other venue. The Huntsman Center has hosted a record nine national championships—one AIAW and eight NCAA Championships: 1981 (AIAW), 1982, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1994, 1999 and 2007. Other gymnastics events making Huntsman Center appearances include the 1979 USGF World Championships Trials, the 1980 and ‘82 Championships of the USA, the 1993 World University Games Trials, 14 NCAA regional championships and two Pac-12 Championships. Utah has led the nation in gymnastics attendance 34 of the last 37 years and has won eight all-women’s sports attendance titles, including the last six in a row. The Utes have averaged nearly 12,000 fans a meet since 1990 and over 14,500 a meet since 2010. Opened in 1969 on the southeast side of campus (elevation 4,657 feet), the 15,000-seat Huntsman Center is still in pristine condition. The facility underwent a $6 million renovation in the summer of 2014. The project included the installation of a super-grid ceiling structure, a state-of-the-art sound system, brighter and energy-efficient LED lighting in the arena and concourse, a maple wood floor, and updated graphics wrapping the walls of the lower bowl and mid-level concourse. New videoboards were installed in the fall of 2017 at a cost of $4.1 million.

Also calling the Huntsman Center home are the Ute men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams. The Huntsman Center ranks third among the nation’s arenas for most NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games held (81), including the 1979 Final Four starring Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

*2019 Nissan Rogue

TM

Even the star-athlete needs a little help sometimes. That’s why the 2019 Nissan Rogue* offers available Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies that are engineered to set you up for a win. Like available Rear Automatic Braking,** which looks out for parked cars and other objects if it detects a potential rear collision when you’re backing up, and can stop for you. Now the most exciting tech you own is in your driveway.

*Availability of features varies by vehicle model year, model, trim level, packaging and options. **Rear Automatic Braking cannot prevent all collisions and may not provide warning or braking in all conditions. Driver should always turn and check surroundings before driving and brake as needed to prevent collisions. See Owner’s Manual for safety information. Always wear your seatbelt and please don’t drink and drive. © 2018 Nissan North America, Inc. All rights reserved.
