Letter from the Editor

About the Magazine Collage, the official literary and fine arts magazine of Millikin University, is published twice each academic year. It is organized, operated, written, edited, and designed by Millikin students. It publishes work by all members of the Millikin community.

Copyrights revert back to the original author six months after publication. The opinion expressed by the contributors to the magazine are not necessarily those of Collage.

When I first came to Millikin, not once did I think I would one day be in charge of a magazine. When Sara came to me asking me to take over as Editor-in-Chief I was shocked. I hadn’t even joined Collage until the very end of my Freshman year when my roommate talked me into going to the meeting. Needless to say, I fell in love with it. Being able to spread art and writing through campus, sharing the work of those on campus that at many other universities goes unnoticed, is an amazing feeling.

I feel a sense of pride at what my team has accomplished each time a new issue is completed, and I must thank each person who has worked on this edition of Collage. Every individual brings something unique to the table and makes each of these magazines possible. Thank you as well to all those who submitted their work. Without you, Collage would not have any content and this small book would not exist right now. And of course, a thank you to the individual reading this right now. Getting each issue in your hands and sharing the hard work of others is our ultimate goal. Our readers and their love of this Magazine is what makes all of the hard work worth it in the end.

This being my last semester as Editor-in-Chief, it is a bittersweet goodbye as I pass this position on. This magazine has been very dear to me during my time at college, so it is with a heavy heart that I pass on this wounderous publication to the next bright individual.

Biographies

Carrie Thompson (Editor-in-Chief)

is a Junior Graphic Design major and Entrepreneurship minor. She adores creating art for others to see and tends to throw herself into many different projects and hobbies. If you see her and she looks like she has not slept for about two days straight, there is a very good chance that’s exactly what happened. Her life long dream is to recieve an endless supply of coffee.

Tressa Rudolph (Editor)

is a Junior Theatre and English major. She’s exploring several fields at the moment, and would love for a decision to be made already. But, alas, so many cool things to stick a creative and curious nose into. She has primarily set her sigts on Dramaturgy as of now and cannot wait to see what the future will bring.

Athena Pajer (Editor)

is an English Literature major at Millikin University. She also works on the campus newspaper, the Decaturian, and is president of the English Club.

Sara Lawson (Editor)

is a Senior Digital Media Marketing major. She has been invloved with Collage for three years, one of which was spent as Editor in Chief. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats, Brad and Corvus. After graduation, she plans to go into environmental marketing.

Sydney Sinks (Editor)

is an English Writing major who loves writing poetry and prose.

Her hobbies include reading and playing piano. She also enjoys musical theater and has plenty to say about it if you ever want to strike up a conversation. She is looking forward to learning more about English and creative writing during her time at Millikin.

Allison Brannon (Graphic Designer)

is a Junior graphic design/entrepreneurship major who also spends her time working as a stage manager, SHC member, and peer mentor. She is also a proud member of Alpha Chi Omega. *Cover Design Artwork Kathryn Franklin (Graphic Designer)

is a junior graphic design major who spends her time working as a mac lab tutor here on campus.

Deborah Corr

is a senior who studies photography and spanish at Millikin University.

Marrissa Drake

is a senior BA history major, from Decatur Illinois. Here at Millikin she is a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. LASO, and the History and Political Science Club. Photography is my hobby. All of the pictures in this series are from her trip to Europe with Dr. Kovalcik’s WWII and Cold War immersion courses.

Eliska Kostelny

is a senior BFA studio art major.

Jessa Wilcoxen

is an Arts Tech professor and chair of the department. In additional to her career as an educator, Jessa’s professional career has led her to create web and brand experiences for clients through her company, Creative Spark. She has also been employed as a designer and front end developer for multiple advertising agencies and entrepreneurial start ups. A few of the client accounts she has worked on include: FedEx, Homewood Suites, Harvard Medical School’s Division of Clinical Informations, Morgan Keegan, Beatty Hill Architecture, and Landau Uniforms.

Submission Guidlines Send submissions to: collagesubmissions@hotmail.com Literary Guidelines: -Include a cover page with your name and the work’s title, so that your name does not appear anywhere on the actual piece.

-Prose should not exceed 5,000 words.

-Submissions should be in RTF or PDF Art Guidlines: -Include title and medium.

-Files should be high quality JPEG or TIFF, 300 DPI resolution (smart phone pictures are fine so long as they are quality) Please submit a 50-100 word bio with your piece.
