AFRO - MOBITECTURE

design for disassembly individual project | Accra, Ghana | 2019

According to recent research, Ghana has been identified with the disposal of waste into open dumps, streets and landfills. This has accounted for the poor waste management in the country. Currently, Ghana recycles only 2% of the total waste generated in households, market places, business places, etc. This project was a design response to the poor waste management problem in the country. The task was to design a recycling point which can be transported from one place to the other. The main areas of focus for the design were mobility, deconstructability, collapsible features and to create a structure that fits into the urban african context. The form consists of bamboo elements joined together, such that the structure can be retractable. The design is made to act like an accordion, or the mechanism of an umbrella.
