Get ready to dive into the world of the InterAct Youth Arts Festival 2023, proudly presented by the Millennium Forum and their Youth Forum who have put their hearts and souls into creating a brilliant summer arts festival. We’re super proud to be celebrating our fifteenth year of this mind-blowing event. And it’s all about YOU, the young and vibrant people of our city aged 12-21!
Our goal is simple: to give you access to some of the best arts facilitation and professional experience around. We’ve got an incredible line up of workshops, performances, and experiences for your creative minds. We want you to unleash your inner genius and explore the endless possibilities of artistic expression and performance. We are delighted our youth patron Jamie-Lee O’Donnell will be hosting a masterclass in this years InterAct.
We’re all about inclusion, we’ve made sure that every single person, regardless of their additional needs, feels welcomed and supported at our festival. We’ve got assistance ready and waiting for you, and can provide carers for workshops if you need them. Just give a heads-up to our Millennium Forum Education Officer when you’re booking, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Upcycling is pure magic, turning the ordinary into extraordinary. We take fabrics from previous Community Parades and unleash our creativity to craft captivating new artworks under the expert guidance of Helen Quigley. Our mission is to empower young people with the knowledge of reusing materials, imparting essential sewing and fabric handling skills. We foster open communication of ideas, inspiring participants to maximize the potential of available resources. We are hoping to attract the next generation to forge their new careers as sound engineers and give them an insider view of life in the Millennium Forum Tech team.

John Brannigan is a sound engineer with extensive experience in the music industry. He will lead this course on essential in-depth theory on the principles of sound, acoustics and gain structure as well as explaining all about the equipment, components and settings used. There will be training on patching in using the mixing desk, understanding and using EQ, noise gates, and compression.

Rest assured, we prioritize your safety by exclusively using professionalgrade SFX materials that are skin-friendly, such as latex (with alternative options for allergies), silicone, FX prosthetic gelatin, fake bloods, and alcohol- and grease-based paints.

This year Urban Shock Dance will offer a world of dance experience. We are going to teach and break down different styles and rhythms from around the world. Learn to use drawing and animation to create your own movies! The Wheelworks Arts team will teach participants to create digital cartoons using iPads and Apple Pencils. Derry born star, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, has years of experience in the industry across TV, Film & Theatre having shot to stardom in Channel 4’s smash hit comedy Derry Girls. Acting for Stage and Screen requires various different techniques and tricks, and she will offer first-hand experience with this. During the Masterclass we shall give aspiring performers the tools to prepare for roles for auditions and life in the industry.
Exploring the Arts with Poetry. Looking at various poetic forms and writing about our city. With the 10th anniversary of Seamus Heaney this August we will also look at some of his work and use some of his poems to inspire our writing at InterAct 2023.

Crossan return to the world of InterAct for 2023 and promise to coach participants in musical theatre acting dancing and singing in in their “world of musical theatre” themed workshops. Both director and choreographer will encourage participants to “open a book, press play on the jukebox, select a movie and razzle dazzle at the west end” reminding the audience that “All the world is a stage”.
