ARE SERVICE MEMBERS ALLOWED TO USE HEMP & CBD OIL?

The House of Representatives approved an amendment in july 2020 to allow military service members to use products containing hemp and it’s derivative including CBD.

The measure sponsored by Rep. Tulsi Gabbert (D-HI), stipulates that the Secretary of Defense may not prohibit, on the basis of a product containing hemp or any ingredients derived from hemp, the possession, use, or consumption of such product by a member of the Armed Forces as long as a crop meet the federal definition of hemp that such possession, use, or consumption is in compliance with the applicable federal, state, and local law. It passed by a vote of 336–71 in and en bloc package

including dozens of other noncannabis amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill also features a measure approved in committee earlier this month that allows heads of military branches to issue reenlistment waivers for those who admit to using marijuana, or were convicted of a misdemeanor marijuana offense, once. Gabbard, a military veteran and former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, also filed a bill last year aimed at modernizing the hemp industry, including by encouraging federal research into a wide range of potential applications for the crop. That stand-alone bill, the”Hemp for Victory Act,” would mandate studies into everything from the use of hemp food products for public school lunches to the potential therapeutic value of the crops and extracts for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder to even its ability to clear contaminants from nuclear sites.

The Congresswoman’s latest amendment would address a CBD policy conflict that’s emerged in recent months, with various military branches issuing statements precluding service members from using the non-– intoxicating cannabis compound regardless of his federal legislation under the 2018 Farm Bill. In February the Department of Defense (DOD) announced a policy “Barring All Active and Reserve Service Members “ from using hemp products including CBD. The memo acknowledges

that hemp was legalized, but it said the risk of exposure to products potentially containing excess THC is too great .

The document codifies what seems to have been an informal policy that led to a series of updates from various military branches on hemp and CBD policy.

DOD reaffirmed that CBD is off limits to service members, regardless of federal legalization of hemp and its derivatives,in earlier notices published at the beginning of the year.

Both DOD and the Air Force have previously weighed in on the issue, stipulating that members are prohibited from using hemp– derived CBD. Last year the Navy reminded their ranks that they are barred from using CBT no matter its legality. The Coast Guard said that sailors can’t use marijuana or visit state–legal dispensaries.

And NASA, which is not part of the military warned that CBD products could contain unauthorized THC concentrations that could cost employees their job if they failed the drug test.

While Gabbard’s amendment has been attached to the house version of the NDAA, it remains to be seen whether any cannabis policy reform provisions will make it into the Senate version. That said, a bipartisan group of senators is trying to attach marijuana and CBD research language into the defense spending bill.

THE BIRTH OF THE MILITARY PRESS After cutting my teeth at the Los Angeles Times Newspaper I left the Times in 1975 and I started a newspaper in Carlsbad .. call The Breeze . After a year of publishing the Breeze an incident on camp Pendleton involving 13 black Marines and six white Marines occurred. The black Marines were from the motor pool and beat and stabbed the white Marines with screwdrivers accusing them of being KKK members.

Immediately the Newspapers, Radio and Television networks all over the United States along with Jessie Jackson, Yvonne Brathwaite Burke (LA politician ) and the NAACP descended on Camp Pendleton with a rush to judgment on the six White Marines accused of being KKK members. This incident happened in my back yard and I was determined to get to the bottom of the truth. I immediately found out the White Marines we’re not members of the KKK and I published my story in regards to all this miss information and unfounded truths. In my story I condemned all media, Radio, television, newspapers, Jesse Jackson and anyone that accused these Marines of being KKK members.

I said the Media, NAACP and all these personalities should be put on trial and not the Marine Corps . I broke the story in my paper thursday and friday morning I got a call from Washington DC from

According to lottery officials, 5,631 different people had played those winning numbers and each one took home about $500.

Winning the lottery, even if it’s just a small state lottery, is a pretty big deal. For those 5,631 people, September 11 must surely be a day they’ll never forget.

THE CURSE OF

LITTLE BASTARD There’s no easy way to say this, but: curses are ... not real. It turns out they’re just ways of retroactively connecting coincidentally similar tragedies in an attempt to find meaning in a possibly meaningless universe. One well-known curse is the set of almost shocking tragic circumstances surrounding a car that once belonged to James Dean.

Dean purchased a Porsche 550 Spyder that he had customized

by George Barris (the guy who made the best Batmobile) and that he named “Little Bastard,” because he was a Rebel Without a Grandma to Tell Him Not to Say Words Like That. Dean died when he wrecked Little Bastard in 1955, a week after fellow actor Alec Guinness told him he would die in that car, undoubtedly using some kind of Jedi mind trick to tell the future.

Bad news followed the Bastard around: Barris bought the wrecked car and soon it slipped off its trailer and broke a mechanic’s leg. Two other guys who bought parts off Little Bastard wrecked their own cars, with one dying and the other seriously injured. Tires from the car exploded. There are more related accidents, but perhaps worst of all, when Barris donated the car to an auto safety exhibit, the garage housing the car burned down, with the Bastard unharmed.

CHEECH AND CHONG - 40 YEARS OF ‘UP IN SMOKE’

When Cheech Marin picks up the phone, he’s already in character. “Hello, Jack in the Box! What the fuck’s up?” he bellows in his trademark gritty voice. It’s about 11 a.m. where he is in California, and despite his chipper demeanor, he says, “I’m just drowsing into consciousness here.”

Similarly, his comic foil for four decades and counting, Tommy Chong, still seems like he’s emerging from a purple haze when he speaks with Rolling Stone around the same time of day, about a week later. “Hey, I’ve been waiting to talk to you, man,” he says in his signature sweetly stoned lilt – and that last word, “man,” sounds exactly the way he’s been saying it since Cheech and Chong became underground breakouts in the early 1970s thanks to their radical, sketch-based LPs. Almost a half a century has passed since the two comedians met in Vancouver, launching an enduring improv routine that they still regularly perform live on the road. And even now that each is in his 70s, they still seem to have the same spark (pun intended). Their collaboration has earned them a Grammy, four gold records, a fat filmography, millions of fans and bragging rights to having made what’s arguably the most iconic stoner flicks of all time, Up in Smoke.

We realize that change has to happen but it has to happen in an organized and legal manner . We need our law enforcement agencies to serve and protect every citizen no matter what your color. 99 % of our policeman are dedicated ,honorable men that despise any officer that takes a life without justification ! Because of the few that have taken someone’s life unjustifiably just think of the burden it has put on every police officer, sheriff, highway patrolman and all lawenforcement personnel. How would you like to go to work every day and realize that there are people that hate you and wish nothing but ill will and may try to murder you while you’re trying to protect them their families and their property.

Shouldn’t / Doesn’t Matter What is BLM .. Black Lives Matter .. is it a saying .. is a thought .. or is it a political party ? In this ever confusing world everything becomes more confusing. If grown-ups can’t decipher the meaning of BLM then what do our young children ages five years and up comprehend.

Do we expect them to understand that white, brown, yellow or red life’s means nothing ! The psychological effects will be devastating when we divide these children by pointing out the color of their skin . I don’t care if we say ” White, Brown, Black,Red or Yellow lives matter it’s still a form separating these young people by race . Have you ever noticed going by either a pre or elementary school playground that all the children play and get along together . Don’t you think the reason this happens is because they have not

yet been indoctrinated by parents, educators or television that they must judge and be judged by the color of their skin. Somethings wrong with the whole of society and our educational system when we can’t educate and make all these children with sponge like/ impregnable minds understand that character not color makes a difference. Why do politicians, movie stars, sports figures and celebrities have to continuously remind us of what color we are. We all have our likes and our dislikes but to let bias or prejudice enter into the equation becomes the sickness that poisons all of society. We know that evil people come in all colors but how foolish can anyone be to judge an entire race by the misdeeds of a few.

When anyone of color (and white is a color) is murdered (by any man or woman of any race) for no good reason, do you think that the murderer is justified. I’ve said this before that the murder of William Floyd was a horrendous act and watching it was one of the most sickening things I’ve ever watched. I’ve not spoken to a single person that doesn’t feel exactly as I do.

Every police officer should be provided with a camera and it should be turned on 24 hours a day. This will provide protection for the people and even more so for dedicated police officers. This is not a perfect world , America is not the perfect nation and we are not a perfect people but I do not think there’s another place on earth that is better to live in than the United States !

But in Floyd’s memory does the rioting and looting and civil disobedience honor or disrespect this poor soul ? Destroying property, setting fire to vehicles, tearing down statues and putting small businesses out of business hurt’s these communities and makes it harder on everyone that lives there.
