The USS Ronald Reagan brings home $203 million annually
Impact of military on San Diego’s economy
One ship’s impact
The regional economic impact of the returning USS Ronald Reagan and its 2,500-person crew includes local spending by sailors and their families, who receive a combined $203 million in pay, plus spending by the Navy on ship upkeep.
The number of Navy personnel based in San Diego is projected to increase in fiscal year 2013 with the return of a second aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan. The shift in strategic focus to the Asia Pacific region will continue to support the Navy’s presence in San Diego as with the potential
addition of a third aircraft carrier. Various San Diego defense contractors will face a shrinking defense budget but could benefit from the emphasis on unmanned vehicles and equipment, cyber security, energy efficiency, and new technologies.
Impact on San Diego County
San Diego’s military community and defense cluster continue to represent an integral part of the region’s economy. This report documents the current impact on jobs, income, and output and explores the future role of national security spending in an era
of greater fiscal austerity. • An estimated total of $20.6 billion of direct spending related to defense flowed into San Diego County during fiscal year 2012, an amount equal to more than $6,500 for each of the County’s residents. • The military sector is responsible for

the life and times of Ronald Wilson Reagan came to California from Illinois during the 1930s and although he starred in some hit movies he became known as a socalled “B” actor. However, his movie and television successes combined with his fight against Hollywood commu-
nism made him an American household name and one of the most respected people in Hollywood. For several reasons, in the

early 1960s Reagan made the switch from Democrat to Republican. One reason for his switch was his dislike of big government and welfare. During the 1950s the highest income Americans paid a monstrous 90% income tax. After becoming California’s governor in 1967, Reagan signed a bill that legalized certain abortions. He later regretted the bill and became a “Pro-lifer.” He was a controversial governor but was reelected in 1970. In 1976 Reagan tried unsuccessfully to unseat President Gerald Ford. Jimmy Carter won the ‘76 election and served as President until 1981.

Then it was Ronald Reagan’s turn. Reagan took over the Presidential mantle in 1981 and then barely two months later was shot down in an attempted assassination. Coughing up blood and with a collapsed lung, Reagan was rushed into surgery. In a now famous anecdote, Reagan said to the operating staff “I hope you’re all Republicans.” Everyone in the room wasn’t Republican however the attending surgeon responded with perhaps one of the most inspiring statements in American history, “Today, Mr. President, we’re all Republicans.” Reagan of course sur-
vived surgery and made a full recovery. When Reagan entered Congress for the first time after his recovery, amidst shouts and cheers he received what was perhaps an unprecedented, in magnitude and duration, standing ovation. Ronald Reagan was convinced that he had a God-given rendezvous with destiny. No President can be all things to all people-the President isn’t meant to be. ‘Putting’ on the Ritz A man of rare good humor, Ronald Reagan knew how to have fun, and he was famously quick with a quip (we know that the first two quotes below, at least, were not rehearsed): After Hinckley shot him, Reagan mock-pled to the George Washington Hospital trauma team, “Please tell me you’re all Republicans.” The head of the team, Dr. Joseph Giordano, a liberal Democrat, reassured him, “We’re all Republicans today.” His first words to Nancy after having been shot were: “Honey, I forgot to duck!” “I’ve always stated that the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth is a government program.” “I did turn 75 today — but remember, that’s only 24 Celsius.” “I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.” “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, “I’m from
the government and I’m here to help.” “Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. Recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his.” “When you see all that rhetorical smoke billowing up from the Democrats, well, ladies and gentleman, I’d follow the example of their nominee: don’t inhale. — Speaking of Bill Clinton in 1992 “Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.” Reagan, the notoriously good and frequent napper: “I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national emergency, even if I’m in a cabinet meeting.” RITZ, cont’d. on Page 22

PUBLISHER’S COMMENTARY
NEW DEAL?
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave us the New Deal. President Obama has given us a raw deal. Democrats and Republicans have no clue on how to deal!
We need a new political party, not radically left or right but a political party that truly represents the needs of all Americans. That party should not be controlled by special interest groups or lobbyist, which in my opinion are nothing more than bribers who have destroyed the Democrat and Republican parties over the last 50+ years.

BAD HAND LOBBIEST / BRIBER.... LOBBYING / BRIBERY A lobbiest is a person who is compensated for attempting to influence the opinions and decisions of government policymakers and legislators. Lobbying in the United States describes paid activity in which special interests hire well-connected professional advocates, often lawyers, to argue for specific legislation in decision-making bodies such as the United States Congress.
Dead Man’s Hand
A briber is one who gives money or favor or promises in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust Bribery is an act of giving money or gift giving that alters the behavior of the recipient. Bribery constitutes a crime and is defined by Black’s Law Dictionary as the offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of any item of value to influence the actions of an official or other person in charge of a public or legal duty
NEW DECK After reading the above meanings on LOBBYIST / BRIBER and LOBBYING / BRIBERY I think we get the picture. We absolutely do not need any type of new deals from the present administration or Republican or Democratic parties. What we really need is a new DECK

Richest U.S. Presidents in History
The net worth of the presidents varies widely. George Washington amassed over half a billion in today’s dollars, while other presidents went bankrupt. The fortunes of America’s presidents are often tied to the economy of their time. Over time, as the focus of the economy has changed, so has the way the presidents made their money. 2. Thomas Jefferson Net worth: $212 million In office: 1801 to 1809, 3rd president Jefferson was left 3,000 acres and several dozen slaves by his father. Monticello, his home on a 5,000-acre plantation in Virginia, was one of the architectural wonders of its time. He made considerable money in various political positions before becoming president, but was mired in debt towards the end of his life.
trust fund. He lost most of his money on a ranching venture in the Dakotas and had to work as an author to pay bills. Roosevelt spent most of his adult years in public service. His 235-acre estate, Sagamore Hill, now sits on some of the most valuable real estate on Long Island.

His wife, Martha Washington, inherited significant property from her father. Washington made well more than subsequent presidents: his salary was 2% of the total U.S. budget in 1789.

Taking that first step Do you feel stuck in your body? Wanting to make a change and not having the slightest idea of where to start? Oh yes how many times you have heard… “Oh it’s so easy. Just exercise and eat right, you’ll be in shape in no time.” Well as many times as I tell my children to brush and floss after every meal, I still have to remind them, after every meal.

Let’s start. Right now! Here’s how. My personal five-step plan! Step 1: Take starting pictures. Then-measurements. Whether you are a size 6 or a 26 you are not content with where you are starting, however it is so necessary. Everyone starts somewhere! You will want and need these to look back on after you crush some goals! (I still have my measurements written on a little pink piece of paper from two years and 120+ lbs. ago!) Step 2: Make goals for yourself. WRITE THEM DOWN. Pen to the paper, write them down. Where you would like to see yourself in 30 days, 3-6-9 months and one year. Your 30 day goals should reflect capable realistic changes such as: Drinking 100+ oz. of water each day or getting in 30 minutes of exercise five times a week. Three- to six-month goals should be making strides on weight loss, knowing how to eat right or networking for support on your progress. Your one year goals are the big ones! Take these goals and hang them up where you will see them every day! You will be able to reach more goals if you range them from simple to challenging. Really dig deep about what has held you back in the past, what inspires you to change, What is your “why?” Step 3: We have to start exercising sometime don’t we? Not everyone is ready for p90x right off the back, I respect that. Get up get moving. Know where I started? Nightly walks after dinner-all four kids in tow! Pick a location and we walked! I didn’t make up any reason why I shouldn’t go. “If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.” Quite frankly I didn’t like my “got.” So pick your activity and start — right now! Just get out there, get moving, at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week.
Ask about our
Step 4: It’s all about the food! It’s all about small choices adding up over time and leaving you with your current results. Make a list of your trigger foods and say your peace. Kick that C.R.A.P out of the kitchen. If you truly want to make a change it starts in the kitchen. Eating is not the enemy, eating high processed junk is. Let’s reload on healthy lean proteins, fresh produce, and colorful fruits. Step 5: We have reached our last step. Here’s the hard part. Take a step back, upload your pictures, save your measurements, laminate your goals, pick your exercise, reorganize your fridge…. Take a deep breath. AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Every study will tell you the same thing... you are what you tell yourself you are. Stop the self-doubt, knock off the negativity and give yourself a chance to change! You have to make the time to make the change. I’m here! Message me, we’ll talk food in a strict no-judgment zone I genuinely want success for everyone. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Cont’d. from Page 3 311,000 of the region’s total jobs in 2012 after accounting for all of the ripple effects of defense spending. This represents one out of every four jobs in San Diego’s economy. • The jobs created as a result of defense spending span a wide range, including engineering, food services, construction, shipbuilding, health care, real estate, financial services, and research. • San Diego’s unemployment rate would be more than one‐half percentage point lower than the officially reported number if Navy and Marine Corps personnel were included. • Defense‐related activities and spending will generate $32 billion of gross regional product (GRP) for San Diego County in fiscal year 2012. This is more than the total economic output estimated for Colorado Springs, Colorado, or El Paso, Texas.
• Dollars linked to national security enter San Diego through three primary channels: wages and benefits for active duty and civilian workers; benefits for retirees and veterans; and spending on contracts, grants, small purchases, and tourism from visiting family members and friends of the military. • Each defense‐related dollar entering San Diego generates additional jobs, income, and output as orders feed through the supply chain and workers employed throughout that chain spend some of their resulting incomes on the region’s goods and services. • For every $1,000 of output or GRP created directly as a result of defense‐ linked spending, another $550 is generated due to the ripple effects of that spending. For every 1,000 jobs created directly by defense expenditures, another 640 positions are made available due to multiplier effects. (Source: KPBW.org and SDMAC Military Economic Impact Study.)

Two guys are bungee-jumping one day. The first guy says to the second. “You know, we could make a lot of money running our own bungeejumping service in Mexico.” The second guy thinks this is a great idea, so the two pool their money and buy everything they’ll need - a tower, an elastic cord, insurance, etc. They travel to Mexico and begin to set up on the square. As they are constructing the tower, a crowd begins to assemble. Slowly, more and more people gather to watch them at work. The first guy jumps. He bounces at the end of the cord, but when he comes back up, the second guy notices that he has a few cuts and scratches. Unfortunately, the second guy isn’t able catch him, he falls again, bounces and comes back up again. This time, he is bruised and bleeding. Again, the second guy misses him. The first guy falls again and bounces back up. This time, he comes back pretty messed up - he’s got a couple of broken bones and is almost unconscious. Luckily, the second guy finally catches him this time and says, “What happened? Was the cord too long?” The first guy says, “No, the cord

A drunk staggers into a church and sits down in a confessional and says nothing. The bewildered priest coughs to attract his attention, but still the man says nothing. The priest knocks on the wall three times in a final attempt to get the man to speak. The drunk replies: “No use knocking’ mate, there’s no paper in this one either.”

Two social workers were walking through a rough part of the city in the evening. They heard moans and muted cries for help from a back alley. Upon investigation, they found a semi-conscious man in a pool of blood. “Help me, I’ve been mugged and viciously beaten” he pleaded. The two social workers turned and walked away. One remarked to her colleague: “You know the person that did this really needs help.”

For three years, the young attorney had been taking his brief vacations at a country inn. The last time he’d finally managed an affair with the innkeeper’s daughter. Looking forward to an exciting few days, he dragged his suitcase up the stairs of the inn, then stopped short. There sat his lover with an infant on her lap! “Helen, why didn’t you write when you learned you were pregnant?” he cried. “I would have rushed up here, we could have gotten married, and the baby would have my name!” “Well,” she said, “when my folks found out about my condition, we sat up all night talkin’ and talkin’ and decided it would be better to have a illegitimate in the family than a lawyer.”

HOUSING Failing your home inspection...
...can cost you the sale of your home. How to prepare before you list your house.
SAN DIEGO — According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical problems that will come under scrutiny during a home inspection when your home is for sale. A new report has been prepared which identifies the eleven most common of these problems, and what you should know about them before you list your home for sale. Whether you own an old home or a brand new one, there are a number of things that can fall short of requirements during a home inspection. If not identified and dealt with, any of these 11 items could cost you dearly in
terms of repair. That’s why it’s critical that you read this report before you list your home. If you wait until the building inspector flags these issues for you, you will almost certainly experience costly delays in the close of your home sale or, worse, turn prospective buyers away altogether. In most cases, you can make a

Oladipo’s ‘weird relationship’ with dad By Pat Forde, Yahoo! Sports BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The momentous days are all lined up ahead of Indiana guard Victor Oladipo. There is the Sunday game at Michigan to decide who claims ownership of the Big Ten title,
and perhaps who
claims ownership of Big Ten and national Player of the Year honors between Oladipo and the Wolverines’ Trey Burke. NCAA tournament Selection Sunday is a week later, where the Hoosiers will learn their path toward a potential national championship. A Final Four appearance would come in early April, followed by a deadline later in the month to declare for the NBA draft or stay in school. But the day most anticipated by Victor’s family of academic achievers is Saturday, May 4. That is his 21st birthday and also graduation day at Indiana. Victor is on course to receive his sport communication degree in just three years.
“My whole family is coming down for graduation,” he told Yahoo! Sports. “My cousins, uncles – my dad might even come. Who knows? We’ll see.” His dad, a man with a PhD from Maryland, might come to college graduation? Victor shrugged. “When the time comes, I’m going to invite him, see what he’ll do,” he said. “But there’s no guarantee.” There never has been a guarantee with Chris Oladipo. He has not been an absentee father in the more stereotypical sense. Chris and his wife, Joan, natives of Nigeria, raised Victor and daughters Kristine, Kendra and Victoria (Victor’s twin) together in suburban Washington, D.C. But when it comes to taking part in the moments that mean the most to his son, Chris Oladipo has been an apparition. He has never been to one of Victor’s college games. He rarely went to any of his son’s games at DeMatha High School – and when he did go, he remained out of his son’s view. Chris attended Victor’s DeMatha graduation but left after a short time, Victor said. The subject of his father clearly is a touchy one for Victor. Bring it up and the Upper Marlboro, Md., native starts looking around the room. Checks his phone. Talks in a softer voice and shorter sentences. “He doesn’t like to show his face,”
Not his dad, or even gravity, can keep Oladipo down. Victor said. “That’s just how he is.” On the court, Victor at times seems unchained from the tyranny of gravity. He seems able to reach an ethereal plane, floating above the mortals below in clean and untroubled airspace. But what goes up still must come down, even if it takes a while for No. 4 to land. And back on the ground, life’s complications and problems are still there – including a dad who doesn’t much care what kind of midair magic his son can perform. “Him and his father have kind of a weird relationship,” said forward Christian Watford, Victor’s roommate. Attempts by Yahoo! Sports to reach Chris Oladipo were unsuccessful. Joan said “I doubt very much” that Chris, who has been described by others as “antisocial,” would consent to an interview.

Victor grew up in a task-oriented household in which his parents – who moved to the United States together in 1985 – held divergent views on life outside academia. Chris has no use for an extracurricular frivolity like basketball. Joan, a registered nurse, loves it. Chris once wanted to send Victor to China for a summer to learn martial arts and improve his self-discipline, even though it would mean missing key exposure on the AAU recruiting trail. Joan wouldn’t hear of it, and won that argument. “He is more the academic side,” Joan Oladipo said. “I’m both, the academic and sports side. I’m trying to make sure our children are wellrounded. It’s important to be athletic and outgoing. You can’t just be a bookworm all the time.” There may not be a more wellrounded player in college basketball than Victor Oladipo – whether his father appreciates it or not. The first practice of the season at Indiana was a long one. It started with a live look-in on ESPN, then got down to high-intensity, high-volume business after the cameras shut off and the on-air talent went home. It lasted more than three hours. Still, that wasn’t enough for some. Several of the No. 1-ranked Hoosiers stuck around to get up extra shots on the side goals in Assembly Hall – Jordan Hulls on one goal, Cody Zeller and Will Sheehey and Yogi Ferrell on others, each with a manager to shag rebounds for them. This was the culture of commitment Tom Crean had created, and as the coach chatted with visitors on the sideline you could see his delight in the diligence. One by one, the sweat-soaked players finished their shooting and walked to the locker room. Finally, about 30 minutes after formal practice ended, there were just two balls bouncing in the gym.

Free agent wish list Here is a wish list of free agents the Chargers should go after and some they should re-sign to their roster
As we go to print hours before the NFL Free Agent signing period officially begins on Tuesday, March 12, it appears the Chargers will be losing the majority of the eight starters they have amongst the 24 unrestricted free agents on their roster. Over the weekend they solidified their special teams unit by re-signing kicker Nick Novak, long snapper Mike Windt and returner Richard Goodman. The Chargers also made an attempt to keep last years’ surprise signee, wide receiver Danario Alexander, by putting the lowest tender on Alexander who is a restricted free agent. However, with reports of other teams willing to offer big money contracts to guard Louis Vasquez and cornerback Antoine Cason, the chances are high they will join the likes of Tyronne Green (G); Aubrayo Franklin (DT); Vaughn Martin (DE); Shaun Phillips (LB) and Quentin Jammer (CB) as former starters who may not be on the Chargers 2013 roster. After cutting linebacker Takeo Spikes and strong safety Atari Bigby last week, the Chargers are a reported $13.5 million under the NFL salary cap. With question marks still surrounding offensive tackles Jared Gaither and Jeromey Clary; wide receivers Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal; and linebacker Larry English – all of whom are under contract – newly hired GM Tom Telesco has some tough decisions to make. With limited space under the salary cap, priority no. 1 is to either re-sign Vasquez to a salary befitting one of the best guards in the league or sign another top guard or tackle if you lose Vasquez, Clary or Gaither. With free agency opening shortly, here is a wish list of free agents the Chargers should go after and some they should re-sign to their roster. OG Andy Levitre (Bills) – with former Bills offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris now on board, it would appear the Chargers would have the in-
side track to land Levitre if the money is right. Having played center, guard and tackle under D’Alessandris’ tutelage, the 6-2, 305-pound Levitre has the size and experience to play in the zone-blocking scheme the Chargers are rumored to install. WR/KR Josh Cribbs (Browns) – although he turns 30 in June, the 6-1, 215-pound Cribbs is still a hot commodity with reports that the 49ers, Patriots, Giants, Cowboys and Cardinals have all shown interest in the two-time Pro Bowler. With Vincent
prior to last season, Lynch proved he was much more than a backup and special teams performer once opportunity presented itself. When both Bigby and third-round pick Brandon Taylor went down with injuries, the 6-0, 210-pound Lynch stepped into the starting role and set career-highs with 46 tackles

#65 Louis Vasquez Brown returning from a broken ankle that kept him out of the 2012 season and Malcolm Floyd’s history of injuries, Cribbs’ combination of size and speed would not only be a great asset to Philip River’s arsenal at receiver, but also a big-time threat as a kick returner. another contract similar to the 1-year, $890,000 he signed last year, he would be a great asset to the defense and special teams. WR/KR Michael Spurlock (Chargers) – originally signed to a 1-year $700,000 contract, Spurlock was cut before training camp ended. However, when given a second chance after being cut from the Jaguars the last week
(39 solo); 2 interceptions; 7 pass defense and 1 fumble recovery. OLB Demorrio Williams (Chargers) – like Lynch, Williams was as an unrestricted free agent signed last offseason to add both depth and experience. Having spent the previous four seasons with Kansas City, the 6-1, 235-pound Williams tied his career-high by posting two interceptions – returning both for touchdowns. If he would agree to
of November, Spurlock quickly proved his worth both as a third-down possession receiver and kick returner. He played a key role in the 34-24 upset victory over the Steelers by catching 7 passes for 64 yards in his first game back with the Chargers. On special teams, Spurlock returned a 63-yard punt for a touchdown against the Jets as well as returning the opening kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown in the season finale against the Raiders. WR Seji Ajirotutu (Chargers) – although he didn’t get much action in his second stint here after signing midway through the season, he has experience working with Rivers. REAGAN

THE GREATEST MANHUNT IN HISTORY
has a Constitutional mandate to uphold the Constitution and by fact of being Commander-in-Chief to protect America from all enemies-potential and real. When Reagan entered office in 1981 the United States and the Soviet Union had been at war-the Cold War-for nearly 40 years. It was a very real war with very real consequences. There is no such thing as a “beneficial” war (necessary-yes). Everyone gets hurt; the belligerents, their allies, as well as most everyone else around (collateral damage). Reagan understood the Cold War had to end and he knew he could end it. How? Reagan realized, with the help of “intelligence,” that the Soviet Union’s economy couldn’t last much longer under the strain of a bulging military. So, Reagan initiated a massive US military build-up which incorporated cutting edge technology including the so-called “Star Wars” SDI nuclear missile defense system. Another thing Reagan did was in essence cut-off the
traditional “appeasing” negotiations with Soviet leaders. Reagan’s “hard-line” didn’t win him popularity contents except with US conservatives and his British ally, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Yet, with the help of good fortune, the rise of power of Soviet reformer Mikhail Gorbachev, and the US military might; the Cold War ended. Every President, pre-election, postelection, and post-office, is criticized, ridiculed, and judged by all sorts of criteria both objective and subjective. Reagan made mistakes, yes. World War Three could have ignited under Reagan. He didn’t think it would. He was right. That’s what counts in the end; not what might have been but what was. After serving two terms Reagan resigned from public life in 1990. Then in 1994 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and as he stated in a letter to America he began “the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life.” Like many great people, Reagan had finished his public life strong but his private life ended frail. Lincoln was assassinated, Roosevelt died from polio, and on June 4, 2004 Ronald Reagan died after 10 years of wasting away from Alzheimer’s. I’ve been to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. His grave is inscribed with these words from Reagan himself... I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph and that there is purpose and worth to each and every life.

Cont’d. from Page 19 the 6-5, 225-pound Ajirotutu to another deal like last season’s 1-year $540,000 cap-friendly contract, why not? Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2010, Ajirotutu averaged 20.5 yards a catch during his rookie year in San Diego. The Endzone: Besides Franklin and Thomas on the defensive front, other Chargers free agents who I would like re-signed include guard/tackle Brandyn Dombrowski and guards Rex Hadnot and Reggie Wells. With speculation that DT Antonio Garay will become a cap casualty as well, they should try to re-sign him to a more cap-friendly salary – he may not start but he’s a good locker room guy whose leadership and work ethic has a positive influence on the younger players. The salaries in this story were provided by Spotrac. com.

TAX & FINANCIAL PLANNING
Not filing a California tax return? By Joe LeBlanc, EA, CFP® The Military Spouses Residency Relief Act (MSRRA) is a great benefit to active duty families PCSing into California. However many families misinterpret the rules and what filing requirements exist, especially the California rules relating to the spouse’s income. MSRRA allows a nonactive duty spouse to maintain a state of domicile other than California while stationed here. To comply with this rule, the spouse must maintain incidents of domicile in the other state which include voting and filing a tax return in that state (if required). If the spouse does not continue these or similar actions, they may become classified as a California tax resident.
While many states, such as Ohio, may not tax active duty income of non-residents, your family may still be required to file a tax return to your resident state(s). MSRRA does not allow a spouse to claim a state in which they have not physically lived, so it is possible that the active duty member and spouse have two different states of residency for tax purposes. MSRRA excludes a spouse’s income from California tax while accompanying an active duty member. However California has a tighter definition of what is excluded than many think. If you are self-employed or rent property in California, that income is specifically not ex-
cluded. Secondary income of an active duty person is also not excluded and is taxable. Also MSRRA does not remove the requirement to file a California income tax return if your family’s gross income exceeds $30,881 in 2012. Although you may have no tax due, you must file a non-resident return to justify it. The perilous part is that California is hungry for tax dollars and the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) has a model program for sharing information with the IRS. If you filed your federal return using a California address or received any tax forms to a California address (W-2, 1099, 1098, etc.) then you are on the FTB’s radar. If they determine your gross income is greater than the filing threshold, expect to receive a notice for failure to file a return. Ignore the notice and you may find yourself in tax jeopardy
with California in short order. When it comes to collecting tax revenue, California has very little sense of humor and seemingly very little compassion for active duty military families stationed here. If you receive a notice, seek professional advice immediately to resolve the situation.

government spending and they want to spend government checks. “How do you tell a Communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an antiCommunist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.” Reagan told a story about an old Russian woman who asked Mikhail Gorbachev whether communism had
been invented by a scientist or a politician. Gorbachev said he thought it was a politician. “That explains it,” said the woman, “a scientist would have tried it on mice first.” “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”
I’ve always thought that the common sense and wisdom of the government were summed up in a sign they used to have hanging on that gigantic Hoover Dam. It said, “Government property. Do not remove.” “Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you di grace yourself you can always write a book.” “There are advantages to being elected President. The day after I was elected, I had my high school grades classified “top secret.” “When I was a little boy, my father proudly told me that the Irish built the jails in this country, then proceeded to fill them.” Ahead of his time? Reagan once told members of the media: Before I refuse to take your questions, I have an opening statement.”
Cont’d. from Page 5 In the same vein, he told a visitor to the Oval Office: “Some day, people will say Ronald Reagan slept here.” Reagan could zing a chiasmus with the best of ’Wem: The difference between them [Democrats] and us [Republicans] is that we want to check

people and hot rod aficionados like him together to show off their cars, trade ideas, listen to some live music and have a little fun. Falling back on his early years as strictly a street rod show promoter (street rods are widely considered 1949 and earlier American cars) Meadors had the idea to welcome all genres of American car enthusiasts with a lean towards V8 powered, lowto-the-ground eye catchers like hot rods from the ’30s and ’40s, lead sled customs from the ’50s, Muscle Cars from the ’70s as well as the new breed of American Muscle like 5.0 GT Mustangs, Z28 Camaros and more. 500 show cars came to that first event, proving just how popular classic cars and hot rods are in California neighboring states! Goodguys under Meadors’ careful direction caught lightning in a bottle. Through bringing car guys and gals together with the common theme of
“having fun with cars” Goodguys Rod & Custom Association gathered sufficient steam to take this simple, passion-driven show format across the country. By 1987, Goodguys had a national string of auto events and festivals from Pennsylvania to California with the nation’s car magazines following along. In 1989, Goodguys published the first “Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette” – a fun little house organ touting the goodtimes with Goodguys. It was also in the late ’80s, Goodguys began selling flamed hi-top tennis shoes and shorts, launching a flamin’ hot multipronged assault on the hot rod and custom car world. Giveaway cars were another added attraction, upping the ante for the masses.
