At 7:02 p.m. on Jan. 1, U.S. Navy Seaman Keaton Tomlin and wife Chikeyva Tomlin became parents to Samaria Tomlin, the New Year’s baby of 2017 at the U.S. Air Force Hospital Langley at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. According to Chikeyva, the delivery went well and the hospital stay has been relaxing. “We thought she was going to be a Christmas baby,” said Chikeyva. “But she turned out to be our New Year baby instead.” Samaria as their second daughter, following Ke’nasia Tomlin, age 2, who was excited to meet her new baby sister. “This is a great way to start the New Year,” said Chikeyva with a smile.

JBLE tracks PT compliant On October 19, 2016, the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron conducted detailed measurements of the physical assessment testing tracks at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. The 633rd CES found that all assessment tracks including the Shellbank Fitness Center indoor and outdoor tracks, and the Anderson Field House track are in compliance with U.S. Air Force physical assessment standards.

HOUSING OFFICE: HOME BUYING, SELLING HELP EXISTS By Staff Sgt. Teresa J. Cleveland 633RD AIR BASE WING PUBLIC AFFAIRS
For many U.S. service members moving due to a permanent change of station can be stressful, as well as buying or selling a home. The 733rd Civil Engineer Division Housing Referral Office at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia is available to help relieve that stress by providing a Home Buying and Selling seminar. During the seminar, they share knowledge by bringing in an experienced realtor, a home inspector, an attorney and a mortgage lender from the Hampton Roads area to answer questions. “The idea is to give service members and civilians an overview of the steps for buying or selling a home to empower them and give them more confidence in being prepared for the process,� said Regina Gomez, 733rd CED housing manager. “Information is power. The professionals we bring in just want to help make the process easier to understand and help make sure service mem-
bers are as prepared as possible.� During the seminar, the local professionals provide general information on buying or selling a home and then provide more specific information regarding the local area, such as the school district ratings and specific things to look for during home inspections. “We also discuss what they need to have prepared, how they need to prepare their finances and what information they should have before they talk to a mortgage lender or a realtor such as their W-2s, last two tax returns or bank statements,� said Gomez. “We refer seminar attendees to available websites that they can look at regarding homes in the area, mainly so they can get an idea of what they are looking for in their ideal home, what they don’t want and where they might want to live. That way they have an idea of where to start looking with a realtor.� Housing personnel suggest sites such as www.housing.army.mil and www. housing.af.mil which provide information and contact lists for housing offices

LAFBCommunity 633 SFS issues crime bulletin for JBLE On behalf of the 633rd Security Forces Squadron a Crime Bulletin for Joint Base Langley Eustis is being issued. The bulletin is as follows: Personnel residing in Hunt Housing in York County, Virginia should be aware of an individual contacting York County and Poquoson residents stating he is a Sergeant with the YorkPoquoson Sheriff’s Office or a York County Judge. This individual is telling residents they have missed court or Jury Duty and is asking them to pay their fines with gift cards. Residents should remember that law enforcement agencies will not take fines over the phone, especially in the payment form of gift cards. If you have any further questions, contact the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office at 890-3630.

JBLE recognizes MLK Jr. Day Joint Base Langley-Eustis will recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a celebration at 10 a.m. at the Langley base theater on Jan. 13, 2017. Along with the celebration at Langley Air Force Base, the 733rd Mission Support Group invites guests to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with an observance at Fort Eustis’ Wylie Theater at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2017. The event will feature Col. Jason E. Kelly, USACE Norfolk District commander, and music by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band and the Hampton High School Choir. Tax center to open Feb. 1 The 2017 tax season is upon us. The Langley Tax Center will provide computer kiosks for members to use Military OneSource as a do-it-yourself resource for your tax preparation. Military OneSource provides service members and their dependents with access to free and secure online tax preparation and filing. Military OneSource suggests that before starting on your tax return, gather all necessary tax documents and additional information such as the following: • Social Security numbers and dates of birth for you, your spouse and dependents • Child care, education and adoption costs • W-2 forms for all employers for you and your spouse • Investment income forms • Alimony information • Social Security benefits • Miscellaneous income • Form 1098-E for student loan interest • Form 1098 for home mortgage interest • Charitable donations • Medical and dental expenses • Real estate taxes • Rental property incomes and expenses The Langley Air Force Base Tax Center will be open all duty days from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Feb. 1 to April. 17, 2017. 633rd CES relocates plants The 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron will be relocating pollinator plants from Bethel Park to the wildlife trail off of Worley Rd. at Langley Air Force Base from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2016. The pollinator plants are being moved to a location where they can thrive and be better utilized by wildlife. To participate in the relocation call, 764-1090.
JBLE Outdoor Recreation Centers open Saturdays The Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis Outdoor Recreation Centers will now open on Saturdays. The hours of operation for the Langley Outdoor Recreation Center is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The hours of operation for the Fort Eustis Outdoor Recreation Center is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. JBLE stresses importance of electronic IRS forms Selection of electronic delivery for 2016 IRS Form 1095-C for military members must be completed by Dec. 31, 2016 to avoid forms being mailed via the U.S. Postal System. Electronic delivery helps protect personal information, saves money and natural resources. The myPay pay management system allows military members to monitor their pay and direct delivery options of important documents such as W-2s, Leave and Earning Statements and the relatively new 1095-C healthcare coverage certification. The deadline to make an electronic delivery-only selection for W-2 forms is Dec. 1, 2016. IRS Form 1095 delivery selection must be made no later than Dec. 31, 2016. The DFAS tax statement release schedule will be released in late November and will be posted on the agency’s website at www.dfas.mil.
JBLE DFAC policy change The Crossbow at Langley Air Force Base and the Resolute Café at Fort Eustis are now open to all personnel who have authorized access to Joint Base Langley-Eustis. Eligible customers include active duty, National Guard and Reserve service members, retired military personnel, immediate family members of active duty personnel, Department of Defense civilians and contractors with a Common Access Card, attached, temporary duty station or conducting business on JBLE.
