Navy Sailors raise $14,700 at charity slidea-thon at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg Courtesy Story
On October 13 at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, sailors from Norfolk Naval Station competed in a charity slide-a-thon in the lodge’s indoor waterpark to celebrate the Navy’s 251st birthday. Cheered on by their families, they raised $14,700 for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Highlights from the day include a total of 137 runs on the Alberta Falls slide, two victory laps on the Howlin’ Tornado slide and a moment to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s birthday with a special cake. With each completed challenge, the sailors raised money to support the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s mission to help active duty and retired Navy sailors, Marines and their families. The partnership between Great Wolf Lodge and the U.S. Navy demonstrates a shared commitment to support our troops and celebrate special moments, bringing moments of joy to those who have given so much to our country.

A: There are three types of housing available to families: Public/Private Venture (PPV) Housing is also referred to as privatized housing in the Navy. The Navy partnered with different private management companies to provide housing to Service Members. These companies are responsible for the construction, renovation, maintenance and day-to-day management of the housing. PPV housing may be located on or off government property and in most cases will be former military housing. Government Owned (also known as Military Housing or Navy Managed Housing is what was formerly called on-base housing. FESTIVE FALL FLAVORS Sip festive fall flavors with a post-apple-picking mocktail By Feature Impact SOURCE: CULINARY.NET
As the air turns crisp and the leaves start to turn, it’s time to return to favorite fall traditions like leaf peeping, bonfires and, of course, apple picking. Once you’ve returned from the orchard, raise a glass to autumn with this fizzy, fruity Apple Cider Mocktail. With smooth apple cider, warm cinnamon, bright citrus, gentle spice from ginger and sweetness from maple syrup and brown sugar, this mocktail tastes complex but is simple to make. If you’d like to turn it into a cocktail, all it takes is a splash of bourbon, rum or vodka - making this drink equally adaptable for a quiet evening at home or a celebratory weekend with friends. Put on your favorite cozy sweater, grab a jug of apple cider and discover more seasonal recipes at Culinary.net. Apple Cider Mocktail Recipe adapted from Mindful Mocktail Total time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon powdered cinnamon 1/2 lemon, divided, for rim then squeezed for juice 3 ounces apple cider 1 teaspoon maple syrup 1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar ice 4 ounces ginger beer, ginger ale or non-alcoholic sparkling wine 1 cinnamon stick 1/2 small apple, sliced On shallow plate, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Moisten rim of cup with lemon wedge and roll in cinnamon mixture until it sticks. In cocktail shaker or jar with lid, add squeezed lemon juice, apple cider, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar and ice. Shake 10-15 seconds to combine. Fill glass with ice and strain in mixture from shaker or jar. Top with ginger beer, ginger ale or sparkling wine. Garnish with cinnamon stick and sliced apple. Note: Sweetness can be customized to taste by using more or less maple syrup, if desired.
Halloween monster burgers that just might bite back By Feature Impact SOURCE: CULINARY.NET
Out with the ordinary, in with the weird - that’s what the Halloween season is all about. These Halloween Monster Burgers give a ghoulishly fun twist on burger night, featuring all your favorite toppings transformed into olive eyes, cheese fangs and a pickle tongue. Whether you reach for a traditional hamburger patty or switch it up with chicken, turkey, bean or veggie options, the effect is the same: a dinner that looks like it escaped from a mad scientist’s lab. It’s a good way to get some protein and veggies into kids before the trick-or-treating sugar rush, and you can even make it interactive by inviting them to decorate their own monsters and come up with
creative variations. Alternatively, if you’re looking for some spooky hors d’oeuvres to impress at this year’s Halloween party, these burgers are easy to size down into slider form. Serve a whole tray of mini monsters ready to devour - or be devoured by - hungry guests. Find more Halloween recipe inspiration at Culinary.net. Halloween Monster Burgers Recipe adapted from Happy Foods Tube Prep time: 10 minutes | Total time: 18 minutes Servings: 4 4 hamburger, chicken or veggie patties 4 tablespoons mayonnaise 4 teaspoons ketchup, plus additional, to taste, divided 4 hamburger buns 8 leaves baby romaine lettuce 4 slices dill pickles, sliced lengthwise 4 cheese slices 8 large green olives, pits removed Cook burger patties until they reach desired doneness. In small bowl, combine mayonnaise and 4 teaspoons ketchup. Spread each bun base with about 1 tablespoon mayo sauce then add two lettuce leaves and cooked burger patty. Add pickle slice as monster “tongue.” Take each cheese slice and cut triangles into one side to resemble teeth; add to burger then cover with ketchup “blood,” to taste. Stick olives on toothpicks and add two to each top bun as “eyeballs.”
Treat Halloween guests with spooktacular cinnamon cupcakes By Feature Impact SOURCE: CULINARY.NET
Fall flavors and Halloween decorations make an ideal seasonal combination. These Cinnamon Spiced Ghost Cupcakes are the perfect example, with the warmth and sweetness of the cake offering a tasty base for piles of frightful frosting. All it takes to transform a swirl of white buttercream into a spooky ghost is a couple dots of food coloring, chocolate chips or another candy of choice. They’re simple to make, easy to personalize and fun for all ages, whether you’re baking a tray for kids to decorate or bringing them to a Halloween party. Add sprinkles, a dusting of cinnamon or decorations that fit your theme. Find more seasonal recipes to enjoy at Culinary.net. Cinnamon Spiced Ghost Cupcakes Recipe adapted from The Marble Kitchen Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 16 minutes Servings: 12 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon baking powder 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 egg, at room temperature 3/4 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Vanilla Buttercream Frosting: 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon salt 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted 3-5 tablespoons heavy cream, at room temperature 1 tablespoon vanilla extract black food dye or chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 F and line cupcake pan with paper liners. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Using electric or stand mixer, cream butter, sugar and brown sugar about 4 minutes on medium or medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add egg, mixing well and scraping down bowl. In small bowl or measuring cup, whisk milk and vanilla. Set aside. Add 1/3 dry ingredient mixture to butter mixture and beat until combined. Add 1/2 milk mixture and mix well. Continue alternating dry and wet ingredients. Bake about 16 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in middle of cupcake comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before frosting. To make frosting: Using electric or stand mixer, beat butter and salt on medium-high speed 5 minutes, scraping down bowl halfway through. Reduce speed to low and add sugar 1/2 cup at a time, alternating with heavy cream until 3 tablespoons have been added. Stop occasionally to scrape down bowl. Once all sugar is in, add vanilla and beat on medium-low 1 minute until light and fluffy. If desired, add additional cream 1 teaspoon at a time until frosting reaches preferred consistency. Place buttercream in piping bag with large round tip. Pipe tall mounds of frosting on each cupcake in ghost shapes (wider on bottom, narrower on top). Add dots of black food dye or chocolate chips for eyes.

Turning 65? What you need to know about Medicare and TRICARE For Life By TRICARE Communications
FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Turning 65 brings important changes to your healthcare coverage. If you’re eligible for TRICARE when approaching your 65th birthday, you may wonder what steps to take next. Be sure to read the notice that’s sent to you five months before your 65th birthday. Remember, you don’t need to wait for TRICARE Open Season to enroll in TRICARE For Life. Coverage is automatic once you meet eligibility requirements. UNDERSTANDING TRICARE FOR LIFE
TRICARE For Life provides Medicare-wraparound coverage. Retirees and their eligible family members automatically get TFL coverage on the date their Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B is effective. At age 65, if you’re eligible for Medicare Part A, you must have both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B to keep your TRICARE coverage, as described in the TRICARE and Medicare Turning Age 65 Brochure (online at https:// tricare.mil/Publications/Brochures/medicare_turning_65). TFL has no enrollment forms or enrollment fees. Medicare is your primary payer. Providers file claims with Medicare. Once Medicare processes and pays their portion of the claim, it’s automatically forwarded to the TFL contractor for processing and payment of TRICARE’s portion of the claim. TRICARE pays your remaining financial responsibility when the care you receive is covered by Medicare and TRICARE. If you have other health insurance, TRICARE becomes the last payer. Medicare is either first or second payer. For additional information on how Medicare coordinates benefits with your other health insurance, visit Medicare (online at https://www.medicare.gov/). When Medicare is your primary coverage, you must get healthcare services from Medicare-participating or Medicare non-participating providers. Medicare non-participating providers may be paid 15% above the Medicare-allowable amount. TRICARE pays this additional amount, so there’s no difference in cost to you. Medicare doesn’t require a referral to see specialists. Remember that eligibility for TFL depends on your eligibility for Medicare. When you turn 65 and move to TFL, your family
