Commander’s and Sergeant Major’s Corner To commemorate MCAS New River’s 70th year anniversary, we will emplace an MV-22B Osprey into the Aviation Memorial Garden at the front entrance of the air station, as well as posting historical plaques for each aircraft in the garden. The Osprey is scheduled to be set in place at the end of May and a ceremony is slated for June. We are proud to be home to the Marines, Sailors and Airmen who help ensure the success and safety of our tenant commands and the air station on a daily basis, and we are grateful for those who have maintained the aircraft on display at the memorial. Semper Fidelis. Marines, Civilian Marines and family members of Marine Corps Air Station New River, As the new sergeant major of the air station, let me first say thank you to the fine noncommissioned officers (NCOs) who so expertly conducted the relief and appointment ceremony welcoming me to my new post. They serve as a fine example of Marine NCOs carrying forward the traditions of our Corps. I am sure they are just the tip of the iceberg showing the professionalism of the personnel aboard this installation. Second, for those of you who were not able to attend, let me share a personal reason for my requesting to come serve as the MCAS New River Sergeant Major. I spent the first 15 years of my Marine Corps career working on the flight line, first as a mechanic and crew chief and later as quality assurance chief. There were times as a young Marine when I felt the installation leadership was not doing all they could to support me and my fellow Marines down at the squadron level. They were either not doing what we needed them to do, or were doing things we did not need them to be doing. As your station sergeant major, I feel I now have an opportunity to ensure the squadrons aboard this installation receive the support and services they need to focus on their mission of maintaining and flying aircraft and being the best-trained aviation element of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. My wife Susan and I are excited about being a part of the MCAS New River family. Thank you again for welcoming me to the air station and Semper Fidelis.
