Fine china is the first item you come across as you witness a retired Navy captain organizing the Maternity Dress Blues and Navy Working Uniform. A former Airman reviews the inventory while a military spouse places children books on the shelves. The welcoming voices of several volunteers synchronize into one melody. Naval Station Norfolk’s Treasure Store is a place where you can buy or sell personal items such as furniture, linens, and jewelry as well as Navy uniforms at a reasonable price. According to Kate Gray, a manager of the Treasure Shop, the store is run by volunteers and all profits are donated to local charities that aid military members and family. “The Treasure Shop only has one paid employee,” Gray said. “The store is managed by volunteers, which allows the maximum amount of profit to be donated to charities. Last year we donated over $53,000 to several charities.”
