Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Command Master Chief Gregg L. Snaza, 50, died last night at his residence in Portsmouth. “We extend our deepest condolences to Master Chief Snaza’s wife and children, his family and his Navy family,” Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Rear Adm. Rick Williamson said. “Master Chief Snaza served our nation, our Navy and Sailors with honor and distinction for more than 32 years. They are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.” Snaza reported to the command in May of this year as the regional command master chief and was the senior enlisted advisor to the regional commander overseeing over 94,000 activeduty personnel in a 20 state region. His previous assignments as a command master chief were Navy Exchange Command, the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), and the guided missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71). He is survived by his wife, two daughters, parents and a grandson. Master Chief Petty Officer Thomas L. Goldsmith is the acting command master chief until a permanent replacement is selected.
