DSGN: 120 Design Drawing (Fall Semester)

Landscape & Sculptural exploration of Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen’s “Torn Notebook” Drawing on paper (Above) Photo of location (Left). Sculpture redesign drawing (Right).

3rd Floor Hallway Three-Day drawing done as an exercise in One Point perspective. Initially composed with pencil and pen (Left). Our further exploration of the space done with willow charcoal (Right).

Landscape analysis composed with willow charcoal (Below)

Drawing of the landscape around the Sheldon Art Museum (Above)

Plan-to-perspective drawing. Here I was tasked with designing my dream room, I wanted to capture a relaxed mood. I started with a floor plan drawing (Right) and concluded with a 10x17” One Point Perspective composition. (Left)

Design Thinking DSGN: 110 Design Thinking

(Fall Semester) Eidetic Image iteration representing the unknown development of urban populations. As it is a long path, we are only capable of viewing what comes directly before and behind us, I explored a feeling of positive enthusiasm that acknowledges the consequenses of over population.

Roadmap of automobiles as consumer products (Below)

Our Group focused on identifying the problem spheres that surround the manufacturing of cars. Our Systems Map (Left)identifies the broad influences of manufacturing related pollutants through three distinct lenses. For the next project, we were to further iterate our systems map through a minimalist lens, approaching our problem sphere through more direct means. (Middle Right). Through these two projects I was the student with Adobe Experience, and was in charge of the digital design, wherein I explored foundational organization techniques.

My Eidetic Image (Above), while mainly themed by food waste, takes a larger view at the American contribution to an ever growing problem. As a faded and almost unrecognizable Grand Canyon looms as the backdrop of our scene, it stands representing the glorification of consumerism and excess in not only the tourism industry but more locally on an every day consumer level. While displaying quantitative data, the amount of trash on screen leaves feelings of unease and disgust both upon comprehention of said data as well as the unsightly surroundings. The top 5 states with the largest output of food waste have been outlined and infilled with food waste, trash can also be seen polluting the Colorado river which then draws the readers attention to the burning garbage and the disastrous effects of carbon emissions on human activity, further leading to environmental degredation and biodiversity loss. Mold can be seen radiating from the mound of garbage, we can also see a family overlooking the scene as they experience this collapse of societal foundations. Lastly with the overwhelming amount of available food presented towards the average american more and more food is pushed to the side and/ or tossed out adding to the perpetually snowballing issue of food waste in America.

Design Making DSGN: 111 (Spring Semester) 4 Pages Dmake 4 pgs

Project 3, a 3D chipboard composition (Left) that highlights the themes, and principles that were captured in project 2 (Right). Project 2 was a visual composition on mat board that took an album cover to develop an organizational grid, and then took inspiration from a song to develop the visual elements. My Project was based upon the song: Fly Like an Eagle, by Steve Miller band and symbolizes themes of freedom and individuality. Isometric Perspective of the final product (Below Left) and a latitudinal section view (Below Right)

For project 3 we took a 3” x 3” section of the topographic model and upscaled the selection to a 6” x 6” cube (Left) made from Bass Wood and Cardstock. The correlation of the cut out model can be seen in relation to the tangent section cut in the original model.

Before our final products for P2 (Top right of left page) we made a series of iterative 8” x 8” compositions that explores a series of correlated principles and themes. Utilizing the same organizational grid across all of the iterations I explored alternative perspectives of symbolizm and personification. My first iteration (left) directly depicts a bird flying through the clouds, whereas my second iteration (Bottom Left) sees a visual representation of the music and emotions expressed in my chosen song (Fly Like an Eagle: Steve Miller Band).

My Final 8” x 8” iteration (Right) explores a new perspective of the song altogether, describing the power behind the wing of a bird through symbolic representations of emotions. The Album cover (A Flock of Seagulls by the band: A Flock of Seagulls) can be seen (Bottom Right) as 3 different layers of percieved scale, there exists an optical illusion through the dynamic relationship of the landscape and the interior threshold.

Project 4 included creating a 6” x 6” foam museum board cube (Left) with slots carved into the sides to represent different organizations of principles and elements. There exist 3 planes that intersect the cube without being parallel or adjacent in orientation. (Above)A hand drawn cruciform plan that shows gestalt while displaying every side in relation to one another. (Below) Project 5 was a site analysis of the Art Alleyway in the haymarket, wherein I created an eidetic image that explored the movement and proximity of the water and the artwork. My exploration prepared my artistic direction for Project 6 (Right Page)

My project 6 took inspiration from how heavily the artwork and graffiti grasps your attention while you walk through the alley and expanded upon how it feels to exist within the threshold. My design seeks to symbolize a living organism that takes over the space. This design choice highlights what Art Alleyway means to the community in the haymarket, lifeless without the joy of artistic expression. My Physical Model (Right & Left) looks at my design as an isolated form, and on top has a painted expression of this theme. The art represents the community emotion, and thus the environment should respond to that connection.
