Students With Academic Greatness (S.W.A.G.) was launched in Fall 2015 as a signature initiative of the First Year Enrichment (FYE) program. The inaugural cohort was recognized in April 2016. The purpose of S.W.A.G. is to promote retention, persistence, and academic excellence by honoring first-year students who demonstrate high academic achievement.
To qualify, students must be first-time, full-time freshmen with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher at the end of their initial year. Students who participated in dual enrollment, JumpStart, or summer bridge programs are also considered for recognition.
Since its inception, FYE has honored 420 S.W.A.G. students (April 2016–present) and has maintained an average retention rate of over 70% for participants. This initiative serves as both recognition and motivation celebrating students’ early successes and encouraging continued academic excellence throughout their college careers.
