Q.4

2020

colorado, our sanctuary Whether we are surrounded by our loved ones or tucked away in a cozy corner with a book, home is one of the rare spaces in which we can both share laughter and find quiet solitude — the dichotomy of which was of the utmost importance this year. Our homes are not just the places that fully defined the “new normal,” but the sanctuaries in which we can find peace from the challenges of the outside world. Instead of feeling confined this quarter, we felt enlivened by the natural beauty around us. Aspens blanketed the state in gold while cooler temps beckoned us beyond our front doors. What’s unique about living in Colorado is the way our homes promote indoor-outdoor connectivity. Vast backyards or balcony oases are staples in the majority of our listings, giving new residents and owners a chance to breathe within their own verdant haven — and when backyards feel small, the entire Front Range becomes our playground. However, between the mountains and our backyards is something even more magical: our community. We all experience our homes differently, but the importance of engaging with our local communities — this year and all years — remains the same. Denver and Boulder are home to a collection of distinct neighborhoods, each with a unique flavor. As the weather got colder and the days got shorter, we got to know our neighborhoods on a more intimate level, and we were reminded of the value of a bonded community. A steaming cafÊ au lait on any of the home’s multiple patio spaces, including a private access patio through the primary suite, is a dream awaiting the lucky owners. Garden-level windows additionally brighten a retro lower level with a built-in bar for a fully immersive mid-mod fantasy.

We are swooning over a particular listing from this quarter. An astonishing time capsule of midmod dreaming converges with tasteful upgrades in this remarkable dwelling. Aptly named after its original owners and their architectural firm, the Brelsford house is nothing but coveted. Hardwood floors, brick, stone tile and graceful wood accents steep this space in natural bliss, while vaulted ceilings, wide windows and an original fireplace inundate the area with light and warmth.
