As time moves on, I find myself thinking less about resolutions and more about patterns. As we step into the 20th year of publishing Southlake Style, I’ve enjoyed a front-row seat to the way trends arrive, peak, fade — and sometimes quietly return in a new form.

When we launched, Southlake reflected a more upscale yet still mainstream moment during its initial growth spurt. Retail leaned toward familiar names like Pottery Barn and Brooks Brothers, homes prioritized space and scale, and having a website felt essential.

Today, luxury experiences are intentional at every turn. Retail is shaped by custom design centers and brands like Apple and Tesla have expertly transcended experience over transaction. (We're particularly interested in Crate & Barrel’s return to Southlake Town Square later this summer).

Housing has also shifted from production-style builds to custom and semicustom homes — and now luxury condos — that emphasize craftsmanship, personalization and smarter use of space.

Even media has followed suit, with brands quietly moving away from noise and toward minimalism, direct engagement and community-driven platforms that meet people where they already are. Perhaps even at their coffee table?

One trend that hasn’t wavered? Our demand for boutique health and wellness. From early yoga studios to today’s personalized fitness, recovery and wellness concepts, this space has continued to evolve and grow because it reflects something deeper: a long-term investment in how we feel, not just how we look.

Overly restrictive fad diets are unhealthy and unsustainable. The key to true, long-term weight management is consistency. The good news is, consistency doesn’t mean perfection. The 80/20 rule is a good way to look at it: 80% of the time food is fuel and you make good decisions, and 20% of the time food is fun and you can indulge.

To help structure out this method you have to think ahead. Being mindful of your upcoming week can help keep you on track instead of reacting to curveballs.

What type of exercise is best for weight loss — weight training or cardio?

In order to lose weight, we must burn more calories than we eat, and exercise simply helps us burn more calories than we naturally would. A common misconception is that cardio is better for weight loss, but that’s not necessarily true. By performing resistance training, you encourage the body to retain your valuable muscle tissue which helps keep your metabolism running efficiently as you age.

Since muscle burns triple the amount of calories that fat does, retaining muscle mass contributes to a healthy metabolic rate. A proper balance between aerobic exercise and resistance training is the most effective for weight management and overall health and wellness.

Are weight loss injections safe, and are they right for me?

Weight loss strategy has undergone some drastic changes recently with GLP-1 injections like Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide). In order to safely and effectively utilize weight loss injections you must consider a few crucial things. here may be a chill in the air, but things are seriously heating up indoors if local fitness studios have anything to say about it.

While Bikram yoga was perhaps the first mainstream introduction of intentionally heated group exercise over fifty years ago, new technologies and improved techniques are causing a wave of heated everything, from sculpt and Pilates to strength and mobility sessions. Studios are leaning into infrared warmth, sauna-style recovery and the kind of feel-good sweat that makes a workout feel less like punishment and more like self-care.

These aren’t your average “new year, new me” routines. Whether your goal is strength training, meditation or simply shaking off holiday stress, some local studios are turning up the temperature in all the right ways. Each one offers heat, community and a fresh start that just might stick.

Form YPS has quickly become one of Southlake’s “it” boutique fitness destinations, thanks to its Pilates reformer classes, as well as signature heated sculpt, yoga and PiYo (Pilates-Yoga) classes set in a studio heated with infrared panels. “Infrared heat warms the body up internally,” founder Charlotte Colby explains. “It lets aches and pains kind of go away as you get warm in that room.”

Inside the hot room, guests can choose from Strength Sculpt, PiYo Sculpt, Cardio Sculpt, vinyasa-based yoga, stretch sessions and fusion formats.

“Strength works your big muscles, while PiYo is all those tiny Pilates muscles and core,” Colby says.

Cardio Sculpt adds conditioning intervals and higher repetition work, all within the heated environment.

“It’s probably our hardest format, with high repetition and cardio built in,” she says.

This January also marks a major milestone for the studio: a welcome expansion that creates a full wellness destination, complete with a traditional strength room, standalone infrared saunas, redlight therapy, cold plunges, contrast therapy and a fresh, organic juice bar. “It’s like the mini-Lifetime of Southlake,” Colby says with a smile.

Form also offers childcare, a priority Colby calls non-negotiable. “At one point in my life, I couldn’t work out without childcare,” she shares, noting how essential that hour of breathing room can be. Memberships, class packs and open-gym access make the studio approachable for all lifestyles, from occasional drop-ins to consistent weekly training.

The studio is fully heated, with classes ranging from 85 to 104 degrees depending on format. “Our forte is Yoga Sculpt at around 95 degrees,” says instructor Heather Jarvis. “We also have Vinyasa flows at about 95F, and Hot Power Fusion — our set sequence — runs between 100F and 104F.” Yoga Sculpt is CorePower’s signature strengthmeets-yoga experience, blending cardio intervals, light weights and upbeat playlists for a consistent sweat. Among the most popular formats is Warrior Sculpt, a heated class that blends power yoga with light dumbbells, upbeat music and athletic strength intervals.

“Warrior Sculpt is the most popular yoga format at Life Time Westlake,” Boenker-Wheelwright explains. “We have a 45-minute class and a 60-minute class, and they consistently fill up.”

For a fully guided vinyasa experience, SOL Guided Yoga brings steady breath-to-body movement, thoughtful teacher cues and deeply warming heat. Five Things Around Town That We Can’t Wait For

A

new year always brings a fresh wave of excitement, and 2026 is already shaping up to be a standout for Southlake. From long-awaited restaurant openings to major retail returns and even a global sports moment landing in our backyard, there’s plenty to look forward to.

One of the biggest arrivals is Hudson House, opening in Park Village this summer and bringing its famous “Coldest Martinis in the World,” oyster platters and an upscale East Coast vibe to Southlake. Expect packed brunches, lively date nights and even more kids running around green space by the fountain.

Adding to the Town Square buzz, Ascension Coffee has announced plans to open its first Southlake café in Spring 2026, moving into the former Cornery Bakery space at 100 State Street. The Dallas-born specialty coffee brand is known for its ethically sourced, small-

TEXAS HEALTH SOUTHLAKE EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southlake earned its first Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery (ACSS), a national designation recognizing hospitals that meet the highest standards in spine care. Interim president Mitch Mulvehill called the certification a humbling accomplishment that reflected the hospital’s commitment to compassionate, advanced orthopedic care. The achievement followed months of collaboration across departments, with Spine Surgery Program coordinator Hiep Nguyen noting the combined efforts of physicians, nurses, technicians and volunteers. Texas Health Southlake performs more than 300 spinal surgeries annually, serving a community of over 30,000 residents.

ORVIS CLOSES SOUTHLAKE STORE Orvis, the national outdoor retailer known for fly-fishing gear and sporting apparel, closed its Southlake store in Park Village on Dec. 24 as part of a major downsizing of its retail footprint. The company shut down 31 stores and five outlets nationwide, including its Plano location. Orvis, which operated more than 70 locations across the U.S., said the consolidation reflected a return to its fly-fishing roots amid shifting retail pressures. While many storefronts closed, Orvis products remain widely available through independent dealers and national retail partners. ust when you thought Southlake’s dining scene couldn’t get any better, it just got another welcome jolt.

Part of the many exquisite updates from Coury hospitality inside The Elmore Hotel, Sagewind Restaurant & Lounge is quickly becoming the spot people are talking about. And not just because it's shiny and new, but because the food is genuinely memorable.

The dining room itself tells part of the story.

Open to the hotel’s entrance lobby, it’s one of those spaces where people-watching becomes an unintentional bonus. During the day, the restaurant feels bright and easy, with a steady buzz of travelers and locals passing through; by night, it shifts

into something softer and more intimate, with the kind of warm glow that makes you settle in for “just one more” course.

Still, as inviting as the space is, the real draw is what’s coming out of the kitchen. Executive Chef Brandon Williams brings a Modern American Fusion approach, but don't let that phrase scare you off. This isn't fussy, stacked-too-high food. Williams cooks with a balance of comfort and curiosity: Texas roots, global flavors and a style that feels refined without trying too hard.

Seafood fans should head straight for the rainbow trout. It arrives with roasted heirloom carrots, heirloom cauliflower and a beurre blanc that's silky without being heavy. It's the kind of dish that sounds simple and straightforward, but lands with surprising elegance.

But even if you’re not in the mood for a full meal, the starters are where groups tend to linger.

The calamari comes with crispy shishito peppers, lemon, and garlic aioli and disappears fast. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi Rice is ideal for sharing, and the Maple Nashville Hot Chicken Lollipops perfectly hit the sweet-heat balance.

Breakfast Means Business On weekday mornings, Sagewind belongs to the business set, travelers and locals alike. Especially now that there is a void in Town Square where Corner Bakery used to be. While the atmosphere is more laptops, coffee refills and people powering through meetings, it's the hearty and delectable breakfast favorites that have guests lining up for a coveted table. Case in point: the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich. It's stacked with farm-fresh eggs, applewood-smoked bacon and American cheese and served with perfectly crispy harissa breakfast potatoes.

Come the weekend, the energy shifts. Locals take over the dining room with date nights, girls' night outs and families sliding into booths for brunch. With the frequent sounds of live music, it somehow manages to feel cozy and buzzing at the same time.

If you're there for brunch, the French Vanilla Brioche is the thing to order: fried brioche with vanilla custard, raspberry dust and vanilla chantilly.

The Elmore Breakfast Burger is just plain fun. This burger with gouda, gruyere, a fried egg and crispy bacon is messy in the best way - and kind of perfect with a mimosa.

What Sagewind does best is make you want to extend your stay. Maybe it's the lighting, maybe it's the cocktails, maybe it's the food that keeps surprising you, but it's easy to settle in, whether you're grabbing calamari before a heading to the hotel's swanky speakeasy, Social Outlaw, or staying for a three-course dinner.

Social Outlaw, the reservation-only speakeasy inside The Elmore Hotel, is part of a fresh redesign for people who prefer a relaxed, low-key vibe over a packed bar scene.

Step inside and the shift is instant. While The Elmore is bright and stylish, Social Outlaw turns the lights down and the mood up. Think warm, amber lighting, soft leather chairs, dark wood details, textured walls and vintage-leaning art that hints at speakeasy culture without being over the top. It’s cozy, comfortable and built for actual conversation — not shouting over music.

That balance of refinement and attitude extends as you should expect, to the cocktail list. Founded in 2018 by Josephine Giesen, the Dallasbased chef-led meal delivery service has become a favorite among North Texas households who crave fresh, health-centered, beautifully made meals without the pretense.

À Table also offers a lineup of à la carte comforts, like healthier panko-crusted chicken nuggets that even the pickiest eaters will beg for, not to mention seasonal vegetable sides that feel far from obligatory. And for those with a sweet tooth? The house-made Pop-Tarts, buttery, jammy and unapologetically nostalgic, are a must-try.

“Everything we make is food you’d serve to people you love,” Giesen says. “It’s not about trends, it’s about care.”

or many Southlake families, life moves fast — and Alexis Dodge knows that pace well.

Married to Carroll head football coach Riley Dodge and a mom of four, Alexis spent years juggling the X’s and O’s of a career, kids and the constant push to keep her home running smoothly. The Texas A&M grad with a master’s in accounting and a CPA license found calm in creating simple, sustainable systems that made daily life easier. That passion soon grew into Your Neat Haven, her home-organization company that now helps local families transform cluttered spaces into functional, peaceful places to live and recharge.

MY BACKGROUND IS ACTUALLY IN ACCOUNTING… I graduated with my master’s from Texas A&M and earned my CPA license. As a working mom juggling a career, shuttling kids to activities, keeping up a social life and maintaining a home, I learned how overwhelming it can all feel.

I found that creating maintainable systems gave me sanity — and now I’m determined to help others experience that same relief.

WORKING IN SOUTHLAKE HAS SHAPED MY APPROACH… While some homes are new, many were built in the ’90s without modern storage solutions. That challenge has pushed our team to refine systems that reduce clutter while enhancing natural flow and aesthetics. Southlake families are incredibly busy and active, so I’ve learned to create solutions that feel elevated but are also practical and easy to maintain.

WITH FOUR CHILDREN, OUR HOUSE IS BUSY… Which surprisingly makes me better at this work.

I don’t aim for perfect; I aim for sustainable. Every item has a place, every space has a purpose and everyone knows the system. I involve my kids so they learn responsibility and ownership — but I’ve also learned to give myself grace.

There are seasons when I need help with laundry or other tasks. It truly takes a village.

MAINTAINING A SYSTEM IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS CREATING IT… Which is why we offer ‘Neat Membership’ sessions to keep previously organized spaces refreshed. Decluttering is an

ongoing process. I always recommend keeping a dedicated “donate” bin in your home and making regular trips to your favorite charity — it keeps the clutter from creeping back in.

ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING PROJECTS… It was our very first full move-in project after I launched YNH. They had spent a year out of their home during a complete gut and expansion. When construction was finished, we were brought in to unpack and organize every square inch. During the final walkthrough, watching their reactions — the joy, the excitement, the sense of finally being home — reminded me exactly why I started this company.

WHAT BRINGS ME THE MOST JOY… Seeing a space shift from overwhelming to peaceful. When clients walk into a room and breathe easier — when their environment finally supports them — that transformation is everything. I love creating systems, but more than that, I love seeing how people feel when their home becomes a haven.

WHEN WE FINISH A PROJECT, I HOPE FAMILIES FEEL… A sense of calm. I want them to walk into each space and feel like everything has a home and that their daily routines just became a little easier.
