ISO 50001:2011 The International Standard for Energy Management

What is ISO 50001:2011? ISO 50001:2011 is the new international standard for Energy Management Systems (EnMS). Successful implementation will provide a robust framework for your organisation to continually improve energy performance and reduce costs. Having a fully certified and compliant ISO 50001 system installed means organisations are automatically exempt from the energy auditing requirements of the ESOS regulations. The qualification date for the next phase of ESOS is 05 December 2018.

Our Bespoke Service Every organisation is different, with its own processes, plant, systems, culture and resources. A ‘one size fits all’ approach to ISO 50001 certification could turn out to be costly, impractical and unsustainable. An off- the-shelf solution is simply too generic to maximise your organisation’s potential to deliver ongoing carbon and cost savings. We offer bespoke, yet cost effective services, which support and augment your existing, in-house resources and are tailored to your organisation’s current energy management proficiency and level of conformance. Our qualified and experienced energy and ISO consultants work closely with you to determine the level of support you require. We then guide your team through implementation and certification, empowering you to take and retain full ownership of the management system and its on-going success.

How Can ISO 50001 Help My Organisation? An ISO 50001 compliant energy management structure will enable your organisation to:-

 Establish, implement and maintain the tools, systems and methodology to achieve sustainable, yearon-year reductions in energy consumption and costs.

Identify, evaluate and implement energy saving opportunities, from no-cost initiatives to longer term investment in energy efficient technologies.

 Follow an internationally recognised framework to promote best practice and benchmark performance for continual improvement.

 Signal to customers and other stakeholders your commitment to minimise environmental impact.  Deliver a tailored and structured programme without undue burden on existing human resources.

Steps to ISO 50001 Certification Step 1. Gap Analysis To prepare for compliance, we can review your existing energy management systems and highlight areas that require action. The gap analysis will:    

Outline the requirements for ISO 50001 and confirm the scope for certification. Review existing operations, plant and systems, energy management procedures, capability and resources. Determine compliance and deficiencies in relation to the standard. Provide a report and improvement plan to prepare for formal assessment.

Step 2. Energy Mapping Our proven energy mapping techniques identify, quantify and benchmark energy use across your site(s). This establishes the baseline against which to measure energy performance in accordance with ISO 50001 requirements.

Step 3. ISO 50001 EnMS Implementation We will work closely with your team to develop policies, objectives, processes and documentation that not only meet ISO 50001 compliance, but are also relevant to your organisation’s specific needs. Our consultants have extensive knowledge of a broad range of energy intensive industries and are experienced in all technical aspects involving energy generation and management.

Step 4. ISO 50001 Pre-certification Auditing This is carried out to either confirm your EnMS meet ISO 50001 standards or determine the actions required to become compliant. Our analysis and subsequent report will highlight areas of noncompliance and provide a corrective action plan to make you ready for independent certification.

On-going Support We offer on-going post accreditation support to your team. This includes regular reviews to maintain the effectiveness of your EnMS and maintain conformity to ISO 50001.

What Our Clients Say‌ Epsilon Energy were appointed as the lead assessors to undertake an ESOS assessment. It was a pleasure to work with Epsilon utilising their expertise and knowledge throughout the project. The company were always very professional and accommodating and the work was executed in accordance with the project timeline. Should we require to use an energy consultant in future we will certainly be considering Epsilon as a first option. Mr Adam Perkins Facilities Coordinator & Procurement. Interactive Data (Europe) ltd. ESOS Compliance was very well taken care of with an excellent survey and subsequent report thereafter and produced in a very timely and professional manner. The costs involved in a very competitive market at the time were very much acceptable to our business. The ESOS report showed very clearly the objective evidence required to meet that standard along with further recommendations for continuous improvement which was very much welcomed. Mr Tim Wood Director of Health & Safety. Comex 2000 (UK) ltd. Epsilon Energy carried out an audit and analysis of our energy consumption and suggested various energy savings opportunities as outlined on the ESOS assessment and prepared a report which was presented to the UK Environment Agency well before the deadline. Throughout the whole process they have behaved in the most professional manner, always helpful and thoroughly knowledgeable of the requirements of the task in hand. We have been fortunate to have Epsilon helping us through the process of preparing for ESOS. Ms Jazmin Short International Coordinating Department Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd, London.
