GIFFORD STREET DEVELOPMENT - CASE STUDY

Low Carbon Energy Solutions for Building Services

LoadTracker combined heat and power (CHP) The Project

The Challenge

A re-development of the Gifford Street area of Lewisham to provide necessary facilities for the local area, including a new-build multi-residential development consisting of 40 apartments and 8 studios.

To provide centralized on-site electricity and hot water generation for the apartment building in line with The London Plan.

Summary of Site Demand

The Solution

Annual electricity demand Electricity price (without CCL) Gas consumption Gas price (without CCL)

109,516 kWh 9.0 p/kWh 227,361 kWh 3.0 p/kWh

Supplied and installed one 15kWe/30kWth LoadTracker CHP unit to provide 86% of site heating and hot water demand.

Features • LoadTracker automatically modulates electrical output, which minimizes unnecessary grid electricity consumption. • Long service intervals (8,000 hours or 2 years). • Provides on-site energy generation through the development of a new CHP distribution network.

Benefits • Consumption & Production • Carbon Footprint Savings • Cost Savings

 Consumption & Production

Carbon Footprint Savings 25 tonnes of CO2 emissions could be reduced annually by installing a CHP system relative to a conventional mains supply/gas boiler system.

CO2 (conv)

106,313 kg CO2 pa

CO2(CHP)

80,832 kg CO2 pa

Net reduction

25,480 kg CO2 pa

Cost Savings The use of LoadTracker CHP would result in annual savings of £4,101 relative to a conventional mains electricity supply/boiler system.

This is an equivalent 24% reduction of CO2 emissions.

This is equivalent to saving 25% on energy bills
