GREETINGS FROM THE MAYORESS OF MIJAS

Dear residents of Mijas Pueblo, It gives me immense pleasure to address you all once again this year on the occasion of our festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Peña, patron saint of Mijas and a symbol of our town’s faith, history and identity. These days of celebration hold a very special significance. Our fair stems from our devotion to the Virgen de la Peña, and its true purpose is to pay tribute to her. She has stood by the families of Mijas for generations, listened to our prayers in times of difficulty and shared in our joys. To speak of the Virgen de la Peña is to speak of our roots, of our elders and of a tradition that lies at the very heart of Mijas. On the 8th of September, we will once again experience one of the most moving and eagerly awaited moments: the procession of our patron saint through the streets of Mijas Pueblo. It is a day when residents, families and visitors come together to accompany her with affection, respect and deep emotion. Seeing her pass through our streets is a sight that moves us and reminds us of who we are and where we come from. Over the coming days, Mijas Pueblo will be filled with music, gatherings, a sense of community and joy. Let’s enjoy our fair without ever forgetting its origins and its purpose: to honour the Virgen de La Peña and to keep alive a devotion passed down from generation to generation. I would like to thank everyone who makes these festivities possible: the Festivities Department, municipal staff, security forces, Civil Protection, the brotherhoods, associations, local clubs and community groups. Thank you for your dedication and for cherishing our traditions so dearly. I invite you all to experience these days with joy, respect and pride in our heritage. May the Virgen de la Peña always protect Mijas, watch over all our families and guide us on our journey. Long live the Virgen de la Peña! Long live Mijas! With all my affection, Ana Mata Rico Mayoress of Mijas

GREETINGS FROM THE COUNCILLOR FOR FESTIVITIES AND TRADITIONS

Dear residents of Mijas, Some of the most eagerly awaited days of the year are upon us and, with them, joy once again fills the streets of Mijas Pueblo. Our local fair is here at last, and it is a wonderful feeling to be able to share with you all a celebration that is so very much our own, brimming with life, excitement and emotion. From the Department of Festivities and Traditions, we have lovingly put together a programme that combines our most deeply-rooted customs with modern offerings. We want to preserve everything that forms part of our identity and, at the same time, offer activities that will delight and satisfy everyone, from the youngest to our elders. Over the coming days, every corner of Mijas Pueblo will become a meeting place for families, friends, neighbours and visitors. We will experience moments to share, reconnect, dance, laugh and take pride in our roots, always with our eyes fixed on our patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña, the true origin and meaning of these festivities. As councillor for Festivities and Traditions, I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this fair possible: the team at the Festivities Department, municipal staff, associations, community groups, local clubs, artists, security forces, Civil Protection and all those who have contributed their dedication and enthusiasm to ensure that every detail is taken care of. I invite you all to enjoy these days to the full, with respect, responsibility and joy. Let us continue to cherish our traditions and work together to build a festival that is open, accessible and designed for everyone. Happy Mijas Pueblo Fair 2026! Long live the Virgen de la Peña! Long live Mijas! With all my affection, Silvia Marín Councillor for Festivities and Traditions

GREETINGS FROM THE PARISH PRIEST Long live Mijas, for all it holds!

How lovely it is to arrive in a village and hear its people speak so passionately about their local fair! That is what I sensed in Mijas, when the parishioners showed me around the village and told me about their customs and festivities. Indeed, I was able to see this for myself last year. I must confess that, as a priest, I don’t usually stay for the fairs in the towns where I’ve served; however, the locals managed to inspire me to share with them those days of togetherness, of affection for the village, of love for their traditions, their religious expressions and their festivities. I must emphasise that, through the opening address at the fair delivered by our friend “Juanfra”, I learnt a great deal about what it means to be a“chichilargo”, which has helped me to understand the essence of this village even more deeply and to “embody” the Gospel among the people of Mijas. A fair that the village lives out centred on its Virgen de la Peña, who gives meaning to all that contagious festive spirit that is felt, experienced and brings joy. We must not forget that, thanks to our patron saint, we are able to enjoy such a wonderful fair today, which gathers all the children of the Virgen in her embrace here in Mijas. One request: let us not leave our traditions behind, especially the dancing and singing of the Mijas fandangos, so that we may learn them and keep them alive over time; only in this way will they endure in our streets. I wish you all a wonderful Fair, and may the beauty of the village of Mijas, both inside and out, be felt throughout our streets, for this helps to enrich our souls and make this village in the Malaga mountains a welcoming and happy place. Happy Fair, my children! And long live Mijas, for all it holds! Fr. Hermán Marcel Lunar López Parish Priest.

ELDER BROTHER OF THE VIRGEN DE LA PEÑA BROTHERHOOD Dear neighbours, brothers and sisters:

With the arrival of another September, Mijas is preparing to experience its most eagerly awaited days. Our Fair will once again bring together neighbours, families and visitors for a few days of fellowship and joy, during which our town’s traditions take centre stage. At the heart of these celebrations, and as the very reason for them, remains, as it has for centuries, the presence of our Most Exalted Patron Saint, Our Lady, the Virgen de la Peña. She has been a source of joy for generations of Mijas residents, and continues to be the bond that unites us above all differences, reminding us of the identity of a town that has always found refuge under her maternal protection. As Elder Brother of the Brotherhood, I would like to invite you all to experience these festivities with joy. I encourage you to take part in all the services and events organised in honour of our patron saint. Let us open our doors and our hearts to those who visit us, showing the hospitality that has always characterised our village, while never losing sight of our identity. To this end, I would like to make a special appeal to all residents to decorate their balconies, façades and streets for the procession of the Virgen, transforming every corner of our town into a reflection of our devotion. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest thanks to all the individuals, community groups, associations, brotherhoods and organisations whose effort and dedication ensure that the festivities in honour of our patron saint continue to be a source of pride for us all. I ask the Virgen de la Peña to bless all the people of Mijas and all those who join us during these days, and to grant us the chance to celebrate a Feria full of joy and togetherness. Please accept my fraternal greetings and best wishes for a happy Mijas Fair. Long live the Virgen de la Peña! With all my affection, Raúl Fernández
