LIFEGUARDS ALL YEAR ROUND
The Mijas Town Hall has just awarded the lifeguard and rescue contract for the next two years (with possible extensions up to four years) for a total of 1.56 million euros per year. Some 90 workers, drones, a buggy and a general public address system for emergencies are its main features.
The Mijas coastline, which holds official certifications for accessibility and environmental sustainability, must be monitored all year round to maintain these competitive advantages, according to the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), who explained that the Mijas Town Hall now has “the best lifeguard contract in the province”. The contract was awarded to Socorrismo Málaga.
The service consists of surveillance, rescue, lifeguarding, first aid, nursing care, assisted bathing for people with reduced mobility or disabilities, and prevention and rescue using drones. All these services will be provided on all the beaches in the municipality, which cover a length of approximately 12 kilometres from Calahonda to El Ejido.

The Junta de Andalucía will allocate an investment of 471,404 euros to 20 education centres in Mijas as part of its new ‘Improve your centre’ plan, aimed at improving climate comfort in classrooms. This was announced on the morning of Monday 17th of November by the Andalusian Government delegate in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, during a visit to the María Zambrano Primary School in Las Lagunas, one of the centres benefiting from the scheme.
Navarro, who was accompanied by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the regional delegate for Education, Miguel Briones, highlighted that our town “is one of the five municipalities in the province that will benefit most from these funds”, due to its large population and the educational needs arising from its growth.

I.P. Little by little, we are learning about some of the Christmas activities taking place in the municipality. Among them is the Christmas market, which, for the third year running, is being promoted by the Department of Public Roads in the Plaza de Constitución in Mijas Pueblo. On Wednesday 19th, the councillor Melisa Ceballos (PP) explained that this year there will be up to nine stalls selling traditional crafts and food typical of this time of year, “and we will also have two associa-
tions, AFA Mijas and Piache, the latter supported by the priest of Mijas Pueblo, who will be selling different products and crafts to raise funds”. María Fristchi is one of the traders who will be responsible for filling this central square with Christmas spirit, specifically with her knitted and crocheted items, “above all, with the famous amigurumis, this time with a Christmas touch, with Santa Claus, the Grinch, elves, reindeer, a gingerbread house... all handmade”.
For her part, Isabel Alarcón, from the company Corte de Autor, will offer a wide variety of gourmet products to enjoy during the festive season, “with good cheese, all kinds of Spanish hams and cold meats, and many more things so that nothing is missing at family dinners, meals with friends and so on”.
Performances
The market will open its doors on Friday 28th of November and will remain open until the 5th of
destinations and supported by the Regional Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior of the Regional Government.
On Wednesday 19th, entrepreneurs Raquel Zamora, a leading figure in the field of decoration and well-being, and Maryam Blanes, founder of Julieta Brand, shared their professional experience and projects. “All my life I’ve wanted to carry out my own project, and I’ve always been passionate about fashion, so I started doing things casually, making different garments, and suddenly we started selling and were surprised. That motivates you, and we started creating collections, looking for a place because I no longer had space at home... and everything came together very organically”, said Blanes, who said she was “very happy to be able to share her experience with other women, listen to them too, and contribute a little if possible”.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
These conferences, which form part of the celebration of International Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, are promoted by the Juno House women’s club, which has more than 600 members and is, according to them, currently one of the main ca-
talysts for female talent in our country. “Yesterday, Forbes stated that female entrepreneurship is the sector with the highest growth expectations for next year, and I believe that we are now entering another phase where we need to set many KPIs (key performance indicators) in preparation, in opening doors and doing everything very consciously, but also with that network of powerful women who

can help entrepreneurs who are just starting out with their projects”, said Natalie Batlle, founder and president of Juno House.
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), welcomed the participants and highlighted the value of this type of initiative. “Mijas is one of the municipalities where entrepreneurship is a leader in Andalusia, with 30% of that entrepreneurship, and most of which is also by women. Holding this event in our town helps connect with all those women who are leading figures in different parts of the country”, she said.
January, every day from 11 to 19 hours. “In addition, there will be many performances to liven up this long-awaited period, especially for the little ones in the family”, said Ceballos, adding that “there will be dancing, folklore, ‘pastorales’... a little bit of everything”. The councillor for Public Roads encouraged residents and visitors to come
to Mijas Pueblo during this time, “to this wonderful setting that we have, even more so at Christmas, and for us all to enjoy this season that is coming soon and that we love to celebrate”. The initiative, she concluded, “seeks to encourage shopping within our municipality and to highlight the work of our merchants and artisans’.

The Mijas Town Hall has taken another step forward in the comprehensive renovation of municipal gyms with the installation and commissioning of equipment at the Regino Hernández Sports Centre in Las Lagunas
Users can now enjoy, according to the Town Hall, a modern facility of the “highest quality”. Next week, the renovation of the La Cala gym will be completed, meaning that all public gyms in the municipality will be fully updated after a municipal investment of 730,000 euros.
The mayoress of the city, Ana Mata (PP), visited the Las Lagunas gym (which has 600 users) last Friday 14th, together with the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), and praised the government team’s commitment to sport in Mijas. She recalled that there were machines over 25 years old in the municipal facilities that no longer provided an adequate service.
“This is an investment that had not been made for many years, in all the sports equipment, and it was so necessary”, said the mayoress, adding that “within this Mijas on the move that we have set in motion, we can now enjoy the most innovative machinery on the market”.
For her part, Alarcón pointed out that the floor of the mirror room has been renovated and announced that further investments will be made. “In addition to the floor of the mirror room, new bicycles will also be arriving for the spinning room”, said the councillor, who added that “we are working to improve all the

The comprehensive renovation began on the 27th of October in Mijas Pueblo and will be completed in La Cala, in just over three weeks. The councillor noted that there are more than 2,000 users of the municipal gyms.
In total, more than 1,000 machines and training equipment are being installed, ranging from treadmills, ellipticals, cardiovascular rowing machines, biceps and triceps machines, and squat racks to dumbbells, bumper plates, as well as hyperextension benches and calf raise benches, among many other machines and equipment.
Commercial warranty
The Mijas Town Hall has included in the machinery renovation contract a commercial warranty covering labour, travel, and spa-
re parts; a maximum response time of 48 hours for diagnosis; a maximum resolution period of five working days; and temporary replacement in the event of a breakdown if the repair time exceeds five days.
In addition, it will be mandatory to replace machinery that breaks down or is defective with one of equal functionality and quality within a maximum of ten working days during the warranty period. In the event of breakage, the entire piece must be reupholstered.

Mijas raises its voice against silent violence
Under the powerful slogan ‘Gender-based violence can begin in everyday life. Everyday life should not hurt’, on Monday 17th of November, the Town Hall presented the programme of activities to mark the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The event, held at the Las Lagunas Cultural Centre, served to outline a week of awareness-raising activities that will take place from the 24th to the 28th of November and which have been designed by the Family and Equal Opportunities Department in close collaboration with local women’s groups.
The mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), who is also responsible for this area, opened the presentation by
