Holy Virgen de la Peña

PATRON SAINT AND PERPETUAL MAYORESS OF THE VILLAGE OF MIJAS

GREETING FROM THE MAYORESS OF MIJAS

Dear neighbours:

It is a deep honour for me, as mayoress of Mijas, to address you and welcome you to the Fair in honour of our patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña.

These days are much more than just festivities; they are a reflection of our traditions, our roots and that spirit of Mijas that knows how to celebrate life with joy, respect and hospitality. The Fair of the Virgen de la Peña is a time when the streets of our town are filled with light, music, reunions and devotion. It is the perfect occasion to pay tribute to our patron saint and to continue passing down, generation after generation, the pride of being from Mijas.

I would like to invite you all to enjoy this fair together. It is a time for getting together and cherishing special moments, but above all, it is a time to showcase the hospitality that defines us. We are one big family, and over the next few days we will prove that more than ever.

Of course, I am deeply grateful to all the municipal staff for their dedication in organising these festivities. I know it has not been easy and that many hours of hard work have gone into ensuring everything runs as smoothly as possible. Thank you, each and every one of you.

May the Virgen de la Peña always accompany and protect us!

Long live the Mijas Fair!

Long live the Virgen de la Peña!

GREETING FROM THE COUNCILLOR FOR FESTIVITIES

Dear neighbours:

We’ve been waiting all year, and the time has finally come to welcome the Fair in honour of the Virgen de la Peña, patron saint and perpetual mayoress of Mijas.

During these days, our town is transformed and with joy as we celebrate festivities deeply rooted in devotion. Let us not forget that this fair is dedicated to the Virgen de la Peña, who will shine in all her splendour on the 8th of September during the procession, surrounded by thousands of devoted followers.

I would also like to say a few words about the organisation. We have been working hard for months to prepare a special programme designed with everyone in mind, as our aim is to make these festivities inclusive. There will be children’s activities, concerts, and of course, the Day Fair. Everything is in place for you to enjoy the best possible time, surrounded by those you love most.

In addition, with the needs of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders in mind, noise levels will be reduced every day from 19:00 to 21:00 hours, so they too can enjoy the fair to the fullest.

Without further ado, I wish you all a happy fair and hope these days will be truly unforgettable.

Long live the Mijas Fair! Long live the Virgen de la Peña!

Town crier for the Mijas Fair 2025

JUAN FRANCISCO AGUILERA

Hello to all mijeños! Few things can make a local feel prouder than being named town crier for their fair. It is a true honour to be able to share personal experiences, many of which you yourselves have been part of, and to recall unforgettable moments that will always bring a smile to our faces.

I do not want to miss this opportunity to thank all those who, year after year, make it possible for us all to be a little happier during these days filled with the spirit of friendship: the government team, municipal staff from various departments and the festivities committee.

Allow me to offer you one piece of advice: seek out and reconnect with the child we all carry within, the one who used to get excited days before the fair began, and don’t let that child slip away. You’ll experience a magical fair, filled with that flutter of excitement that reminds us we’re once again children, full of joy and wonder.

Long live the Mijas Fair!

MUNICIPAL DECREE

Mrs Ana Carmen Mata Rico, Mayoress-President of the Hon. Mijas Town Hall, in exercise of the powers granted to her by Articles 84.1.a and 124.4.g of Law 7/1985, of 2 April, regulating the Foundations of Local Government

HEREBY ANNOUNCES

In view of the upcoming Mijas Pueblo Festivities and Fair, which will be held from the 6th to the 11th of September 2025, both inclusive, I consider it appropriate to inform you about the various rules of hygiene, respect and coexistence to make these festive days more pleasant. As far as food and drink outlets are concerned, the following must be complied with:

- The price list shall be displayed in a visible place, including the prices of all products served.

- All persons who come into direct contact with food as part of their work must hold an official food handler’s certificate.

- The Complaint Forms established in Decree 82/2022, of 17 May, (BOJA nº 95, 20 May 2022) will be posted in a visible place and will be available to the public.

- Products in which eggs are used as an ingredient must comply with the criteria laid down in the legislation in force as regards their preparation and consumption.

- The marketing and consumption of ‘chanquetes’ and other immature fish species is strictly prohibited.

- All establishments set up on a temporary basis shall comply with the same regulations governing permanent establishments.

- The preparation of meals is prohibited in unauthorised places, both in the open air and inside vehicles, as well as their consumption in places that are not authorised for this purpose.

I would also like to point out other rules that must be observed during our festivities:

-The fairground will be closed to traffic of all types of motor vehicles from 08.00 hours, with unloading permitted in the street vending area from 18.00 to 19.00 hours along the side avenues.

- All installations located in the fairground (clubs, political groups, attractions, bars, stalls, etc.) will cease their activity at 05.00 hours. From 05.00 hours onwards, music will be stopped both on the rides and in the rest of the activities and stalls on the fairgrounds.

- The installation of all types of machines, chairs, tables and counters outside the limits of the plot where the event is held is prohibited.

-It is forbidden to distribute or sell tobacco without due authorisation, in compliance with Law 28/2005, of the 26th of December, in fixed or mobile stalls and in unauthorised installations.

- The sale and use of firecrackers, flares and similar items is strictly forbidden. These will be confiscated by the Local Police and the corresponding complaint will be processed.

- Unauthorised street vending is prohibited, and the Local Police may proceed to remove the merchandise being sold, as long as the purchase of the same and its legitimate ownership is not accredited by means of an invoice.

- Horses and carriages are authorised to travel through the streets of Mijas, which will be signposted and delimited in this respect, during the celebration of the Mijas Pueblo Fair. Carriages and horses must be in possession of civil liability insurance in compliance with the provisions of the applicable regulations.

- The exhibition, sale, donation or possession of bladed weapons or objects of similar characteristics will not be permitted, and the Local Police will proceed to report and seize them. In the fair booths and fairground facilities, special attention will be paid to the prohibition of selling or providing alcoholic beverages to minors. Booths and clubs located within the fairgrounds must comply with the rules set out in the current Police and Entertainment Regulations, paying special attention to the items relating to safety and fire prevention.

Failure to comply with this rule will be subject to a complaint by the Local Police, which may result in the opening of a disciplinary proceeding and the precautionary closure of the stand. The Local Police and the technicians responsible for the Mijas Town Hall will check compliance with the above provisions. With the adoption of these measures, it is intended that we all enjoy a few days of festivities in order and that the coexistence between those who participate in the fair is cordial. I would also like to take this opportunity to invite the residents and entrepreneurs of Mijas to dress up in Andalusian attire and to decorate their establishments and façades with festive motifs to enhance the Mijas Pueblo Fair and Festivities.

Happy Mijas Pueblo Fair!

The mayoress, Ana Carmen Mata Rico.
