On Tuesday 4th, the ITB in Berlin was inaugurated, where Mijas had to be present after launching its new campaign ‘Immerse yourself in Mijas’ at Fitur last January. The objective at this international tourism event is none other than to consolidate the German market, as pointed out by the councillor for the area, Francisco Jérez (Vox), who assured that this type of tourist “in Mijas has increased by 16% compared to previous years, with stays of between 5 and 8 days, and if there is an increase it is because the quality of the product is good”. Among the key factors for German tourism to choose our town, Jerez poin-

ted mainly to the weather, but also highlighted others such as “the hotels, gastronomy, secu-
rity and communications”. The councillor for Tourism said that the first day was very intense
due to the various meetings held by the Mijas delegation at the ITB, where they conveyed to operators and entrepreneurs of the sector the benefits and leadership of Mijas as one of the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol, highlighting the experience, authenticity and the evocative nature of visiting our municipality.
The presence of Mijas at the
ITB in Berlin has a special relevance given the importance of the German tourist, which represents one of the main source markets for visitors. In fact, statistics from the various tourist offices in the municipality show that, throughout the year 2024, almost 9,000 people of German origin visited these information points in both Mijas Pueblo and La Cala.

Report by María José Gómez / Design: I.Merino
The Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) has released the occupancy data for the month of February in Mijas, which have exceeded initial forecasts to reach 65.18%. In this way, Mijas is one of the leading municipalities on the Costa del Sol, and with respect to the same
month last year, the increase is 8.19%. With regard to the Average Gross Revenue per Guest (IBCA), this was 106.98 euros in February 2025, compared to 90.19 euros at the end of February 2024..
Higher figures than last year
Since the beginning of this year, according to the Town Hall, the municipality “has registered very positive occupancy rates and higher than those of 2024”.
In fact, in January the occupancy rate reached 50.98%, which translates into almost nine points more than in the same
period last year. “We continue to register good occupancy figures, which is a sign of the strength of our tourism sector. This is the result of a well done job by all the agents involved”, said the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP).
The Vice-President of Aehcos in Mijas, Juan Miguel Marcos, also agreed with this point and described the results as positive. “These are good figures that help to break the seasonality. The magnificent work of the hoteliers has produced these results and, moreover, the forecasts are good”, he explained.

Improvements to during White Week SCHOOL FACILITIES
The mayoress announces that she will soon meet with the directors of the schools to discuss the issue of playground roofs
The Mijas Town Hall, through the areas of Education and Operational Services, takes advantage of the holidays to carry out maintenance and cleaning work in the schools in Mijas. On this occasion, during White Week, different actions were carried out in 11 schools, in addition to the regular maintenance work carried out throughout the year, although on this occasion they focused on
more specific interventions. “For both the maintenance and cleaning services it is much easier to undertake these works now than when the school community is present”, explained the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), on Thursday 27th during a visit to CEIP El Albero to check on the work. The mayoress added that “most of the work consists of painting the sports areas, removing the bumps in some areas where the children play so that there is no danger, painting
common areas, as well as work in the bathrooms, such as changing the tiles, among others”. In addition to all this, plumbing, locksmith work and the replacement of elements in poor condition have also been carried out.
Mata was accompanied by the councillor for Education, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), who emphasised that “this week is a week to rest for the students and teachers, but not for the Education maintenance staff, who have visited 11 of the 12 schools in the municipality to carry out this type of work, which we consider a priority before classes start again in the second term”.
Roofing of outdoor areas
The mayoress and the councillor for Education also took advantage of this visit to study some other actions, including the installation of covers on the outdoor playgrounds and work that will have to be carried out in the summer.

For his part, Torres Trella added that, “we are also discussing painting issues, we have also talked about changing energy efficiency, lighting and also, of course, we have talked about changing the paving in the children’s areas, which we need to modify”.
Finally, the mayoress of Mijas stressed that “our goal is that the educational community of each centre has the best facilities, so we spare no effort to make it happen”, and concluded by highlighting the work of the Education teams, “I want to thank the entire maintenance team for the exceptional work they have done”.

The Town Hall accepts in La Cala de Mijas
Editorial department / Design: C.M.
Good news for sports lovers: the Mijas Town Hall has accepted the new swimming pool in La Cala, an infrastructure that, from now on, passes into municipal hands for its complete provision of both staff and equipment and to put it into operation, something that will happen over the next few weeks.
This was announced on Tuesday 4th by the mayoress of the town, Ana Mata (PP), who pointed out that this facility is the second of its kind in the town. Specifically, it is a 50-metre indoor heated pool in which the water temperature will be maintained at between between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius. It also has a grandstand for around 500 spectators, as well as changing rooms.
The facility, which has involved a municipal investment of 4.6 million euros, will be equipped over the next few weeks to get it up and running
The building also has an administration and reception area, a meeting room, a first aid room and mechanical and cleaning rooms. On the other hand, it also has multi-purpose spaces where other sporting activities can be carried out.
Budget
“It is a great day because, at last, we have been able to accept this long-awaited facility for the neighbours. It has been a long journey that today concludes and we can say that we have a new
swimming pool in La Cala”, said Mata about this project, which has involved an investment of 4.6 million euros.
As municipal sources pointed out in a press release, it should be remembered that “the Town Hall has not been able to accept the facility until now because the work suffered from a series of deficiencies, such as leakages in the pool, leaks, problems with the windows and dirt”. On the 28th of January, they explained, “a new unfavourable acceptance report was signed as there were

still incidents in the infrastructure and a lack of documentation. From that date, the company was given a new 30-day deadline to rectify the errors in order to accept the work, something that has now been fulfilled”.

for the renovation of sports equipment
Indoor bikes and tatamis, equipment for gyms and resources for the swimming pool in La Cala, among others, will be purchased
Editorial department. The Mijas Town Hall has put out to tender the purchase of new sports equipment and furniture for the municipal facilities. The aim is to renovate the resources available to the town in order to respond to the demands of its residents.
Specifically, the contract has been put out to tender for 1,077,730.72 euros (VAT included) divided into seven lots. The first lot includes the supply of equipment for the five municipal gyms; the second lot includes indoor cycling bikes for the facilities in Las Lagunas and La Cala; and the third lot includes sports flooring for three municipal gyms and for one indoor cycling room.
A fourth lot includes specific equipment for the new swimming pool in La Cala; the fifth lot includes tatami mats for martial arts compe-
titions; the sixth lot includes equipment for the athletics track at the Costa del Sol Racecourse; and the seventh lot includes office furniture for the new multi-purpose building in Las Lagunas and the swimming pool in La Cala.
High quality
The equipment, machinery and material offered for supply must be high end, with high quality materials and finishes. They must follow the same aesthetic line, colours, upholstery, brand and models, provided that the manufacturer’s catalogue allows it. All the material must be approved.
“We are talking about the most ambitious renovation of equipment in recent years, as everything will be replaced”, said the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP).
The Town Hall has put out to tender a contract worth 1,077,370.72 euros divided into seven lots with which it intends to carry out, in the words of the councillor for sports, “the most ambitious renovation of equipment in recent years”
thanked the work of the municipal technicians who “at all times have ensured that this sports infrastructure has all the guarantees for its operation and safety”. The La Cala swimming pool, the mayoress stressed, “has been one of the priorities of this government team after the previous local executive held an open day knowing that it was not in good condition and that the corresponding checks and supervisions had not been carried out”.
“We are talking about the most ambitious renovation of equipment in recent years, as everything is going to be replaced. If everything goes well, the contract will be awarded in the next few weeks and we will be able to have the new equipment”

Mijas resident Pepe Guasp has registered a patent for a device for electric cars with which, he says, “it won’t be necessary to go to charging stations”
+NEWS
Mijas will remember those who disappeared for no apparent reason in an event this Sunday.-
Pepe Guasp, industrial supervisor, is convinced he has found the key to cheaper and more eco-friendly vehicles. This resident of Mijas joined the Pegaso factory in Barcelona as an apprentice in his teens and all the knowledge he has acquired since then about mechanics has helped him to register a patent for a device to charge batteries in electric vehicles based on the use of air. As this active member of the Lions Club of Mijas told us, “f you take advantage of the wind generated by the vehicle when you drive, which nobody in the world has ever bothered about [the wind], you can obtain a generator that does not depend on the battery, but on an external energy, the air”.
Guasp assured that if his device is implemented in the automotive industry, “it will no longer be necessary to connect it to any charging station”. In this sense, he explained that “the car runs and charges itself, so you never have to plug it in or fill it with petrol or anything else, apart from windscreen

washer fluid”. The device consists of a generator powered by the force of air currents generated by moving vehicles, “an idea as simple as effective, which is applicable to trucks, buses, cars and motorbikes”, says Guasp, adding that “in a short time it will clean the air pollution of every city in the world and will be the end of all the technologies developed to date”.
He also pointed out that with his system, electric cars could be even cheaper, more efficient and more eco-friendly than current models: “As they charge as they move, it takes less than half the batteries of today’s cars, so they will be cheaper, free for the
Patent
Guasp already has the Utility Model Title from the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, which grants him the exclusive right to use it throughout Spain for ten years. He also keeps, as holder, a worldwide right of priority until the end of April this year. “The next step is to see who is interested in using the technology and the exclusive right, and if no one comes out, everyone will have the right to use the idea”, he concluded.

C.L./C.M. Mijas Felina is celebrating ten years of work in Mijas.
One more year, Mijas joins the tribute in memory of those who disappear for no apparent reason, on their day, the 9th of March. In 2023, the Security Forces and Corps registered a total of 24,581 missing persons reports in Spain, according to data from the National Centre for Missing Persons, which depends on the Ministry of Domestic Affairs. Figures which, according to the manifesto of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), “continue to confirm the painful reality of disappearances and their traumatic impact on families and loved ones” and which give meaning to days such as 9M. On Sunday the 9th, an institutional ceremony will be held in the Assembly Hall of the Mijas Town Hall, from 12 noon onwards, to remember the people of our municipality who are still missing.

Last Saturday Rotary Club Mijas International opened their doors to an evening of Cheese, Wine and Dancing to the timeless classics of ABBA in support of local Mijas Charity Adimi, the Asociación para personas con discapacidad de Mijas. This amazing charity formed in 1999 to fill the void between social care and a family’s love for disabled children, has asked Rotary Club Mijas International to help fund a Garden Sun Shade enabling the residents to enjoy the summer months outside without the need to sit in direct sunlight and all the issues related to that. Over 70 persons attended the evening and Rotary Club Mijas was able to add approx. 1700 euros to the project expected to be completed in time for summer 2025. The San Francisco de Asís school organises a play in aid of Keyla.-
The San Francisco de Asís school has organised the solidarity play ‘El Libro de la Selva: Buscando la Sonrisa de Keyla’ (The Jungle Book: Looking for Keyla’s Smile). With this initiative, the school wants to help Keyla, a girl with cerebral palsy, to “improve her daily life”. “Our aim is to raise funds to get her an adapted bathing chair, which will give her greater comfort and autonomy”, they explained. Tickets, which will cost 3 euros, will be on sale from the 10th at the school secretary’s office. The performance will take place on the 20th of March at 17:30 hours in the school’s assembly hall. Thos who can not attend can also collaborate to help Keyla.
