MTN kicked off celebrations for our 50th anniversary in October — 50 years after chiefs of nephrology and transplant surgeons from Kansas City hospitals established a centralized organ procurement system for our community. We’ll continue acknowledging this milestone throughout 2023 in recognition of the year in which we were incorporated and the lives saved over these 50 years.

Over our first five decades of history, we have made many advancements, including a sophisticated laboratory for donor testing and recipient matching, adding tissue procurement services, opening three satellite offices with dedicated staff members and most recently, the addition of our Donor Care and Surgical Recovery Unit (DCU). MTN leads the country in various performance measures with steadfast support from our hospital partners. Your commitment to our mission of saving lives by honoring the gift of organ and tissue donation with dignity and compassion enables more patients to receive a second chance at life each year.

We feel overwhelming gratitude for the lives we have honored and touched over half a century alongside our transplantation colleagues. We are thankful for the opportunities to engage with excellent teams from our donor hospitals and transplant centers. We have asked for patience and understanding as we changed processes following the opening of our DCU, and we appreciate all your efforts to make this exciting change possible. We look forward to continuing our work alongside you in 2023.
