EDITOR’S NOTES By: Rachyl Burzinski

ON TO THE NEXT SEASON

hope everyone had a fantastic winter and was able to take full advantage of the trails. Where I was riding, this season delivered some really solid conditions, plenty of great days to get out, rack up miles, and enjoy everything that makes snowmobiling so special. It was a definite step up and one of those winters you don’t take for granted. One of the highlights for me was spending time on the trails in Iron County (Northern WI). The riding was consistently enjoyable, the trails stayed in great shape, and it was awesome to see so many riders out making the most of it. Even better was the boost to local businesses that rely on winter traffic, something you could really feel this season. The camaraderie among riders and the connection to these communities are a big part of what makes this lifestyle so rewarding. In this issue, we’ve packed in plenty of exciting content. From the latest ATV and UTV updates to industry news, there’s something here to keep you informed and inspired. Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast, a weekend rider, or just keeping

That’s why we’re proud to introduce the Snow PASS program for the next season, providing direct financial support to local clubs and trail organizations.” Since its introduction, Snow PASS has delivered more than CAD $1.2 million in funding and helped bring over 240 communityled projects to life across North America. These projects continue to enhance trail systems, improve access, and ensure hundreds of thousands of riders can explore the snow safely and responsibly. 2026–27 Funding Opportunities For the upcoming season, eligible national, provincial, state, and local nonprofit clubs or community organizations can apply for grants of up to $5,000* to support initiatives that: • Protect, maintain, or expand access to riding areas • Improve trail infrastructure, grooming, and signage • Strengthen club revitalization and volunteer engagement • Increase accessibility and welcome new riders into the sport *In their local currency. 6 Midwest Rider 2026

26TH ANNUAL D.C. SNOWMOBILE FLY-IN BY: CHRISTINE JOURDAIN, ACSA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

he Annual D.C. Snowmobile Fly-In Brings National Advocacy to Capitol Hill Snowmobile leaders from 14 states meet with over 100 Members of Congress to champion responsible recreation, trails, and riding areas.

Experience the thrill of cruising through forests, rolling hills, and wide-open landscapes. Make your stay Burnett County Fun!

Washington, D.C. — April 22, 2026 — Snowmobile leaders from across the country convened in the nation’s capital for the 26th Annual D.C. Snowmobile Fly-In, held April 18–22, 2026. Organized by the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA), the event united riders, industry leaders, and state association representatives in a coordinated effort to advocate for the future of snowmobiling and outdoor recreation. During the Fly-In, participants met with more than 100 U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives representing 14 states. These meetings provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of responsible snowmobiling and the critical role federal programs play in maintaining and expanding trail access across the country. “Snowmobilers understand that access to public and private lands is a privilege—not a right,” said Dave Newman, ACSA President. “We are committed to being good stewards of the land while ensuring that future generations can enjoy the sport responsibly.” A central focus of this year’s Fly-In was the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), which is set to expire on September 30, 2026. Funded through federal gas taxes paid by off-highway vehicle users—including snowmobilers—this program is instrumental in supporting trail development, maintenance, and safety projects across rural America.

Hundreds of Short-Term Rentals and Lodging Options On or Near the Trails - Unload and Ride

“RTP is a user-pay, user-benefit program that delivers real results in rural communities nationwide,” added Newman. “Without RTP, many trail systems that support local economies and outdoor recreation opportunities would be impacted.”

Burnett County has 63 miles of Summer all-terrain vehicle (ATV)/ utility vehicle (UTV) trails (along with 100 miles of Frozen Ground ATV/UTVtrails; and 138 miles of Winter ATV/UTV trails). Additional miles of ATV/UTV routes are made possible by townships and the county opening most roads.

In addition to meetings with Members of Congress, attendees engaged with federal agency officials and partner organizations to discuss shared priorities, including sustainable recreation, land access, and infrastructure investment.

RACE SCENE team. “It just feels so amazing to have another win. It truly was a complete test of equipment and environment this year.” BRP also extends its heartfelt congratulations to every SkiDoo racer who took on this year’s grueling course. The Iron Dog demands unmatched grit, preparation, and resilience, and each competitor who lined up on a Ski-Doo sled showcased the spirit and determination that define the BRP racing family.

SKI-DOO RACERS DOMINATED THE WORLD’S TOUGHEST RACE

Together, these athletes demonstrated what’s possible when world-class riders meet world-class machines. These racers use the MXZ X-RS 600R E-TEC – the same exact snowmobile anyone can ride, not a limited edition or specialty race snowmobile some competitors use. The Ski-Doo team can’t wait for next year’s race already, as the 2027 MXZ X-RS 600RR E-TEC will feature the new Rotax 600RR E-TEC engine with more horsepower and even better performance.

THE 2026 IRON DOG ki-Doo celebrates a commanding performance at the 2026 Iron Dog, the world’s longest and toughest snowmobile race. In an impressive display of endurance and precision, Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad powered their Ski-Doo machines to victory, earning the title of 2026 Iron Dog Champions with a course time of 51:25:26. With this win, Aklestad claims his fifth Iron Dog championship, while Olstad secures his seventh career victory, tying the all-time record held by Scott Davis and John Faeo, each with seven titles. Right behind them, Team #5—Zack Weisz and Thomas Davis— secured a remarkable second-place finish, completing a powerful 1–2 sweep for Ski-Doo. “Can’t thank all you guys enough, those sleds ran amazing,” stated Aklestad as he passed along thanks to the Ski-Doo

COR POWERSPORTS 2026 SEASON MESSAGE & 2027 SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED he 2026 season was definitely a year to remember; we completed all eight race weekends, expanded the series to North Dakota, and, at the last minute, moved the season’s final round and banquet to Houghton, MI. We cannot express enough how grateful Andrea and I are to our racers, fans, sponsors, venues, and especially our staff. The crew sacrifices a lot of time with their families to work these events, and for that, we are thankful.

Not only did we complete eight incredible race weekends, but we also launched a new podcast series, “Out of the Snowdust.” Haley, Danielle, and I recap race days on Saturday night, interview racers, and then record a midweek episode to review the past race weekend, talk to racers, sponsors, and others, and discuss upcoming races. Originally, this was only on our Facebook and YouTube pages, but we have now launched the podcast on Spotify! For 2027, we are not resting on the success of 2026; we are working on improvements to make the events even better for the next season. With that, we are thrilled to announce our 2027 Cor PowerSports Race Series schedule! All of our existing venues are under long-term commitments and are contracted through at least the 2028 race season, and many are contracted through the 2030 race season! The Turtle River Roughriders 100 in Manvel, ND, will be held as a one-day race on January 30, 2027. Since the Soo 500 is scheduled shortly after this event, we kept the race as a oneday event for our racers competing at the Soo, a larger group than many realize. Closing out our season, we will return to Houghton, MI, for the Copper Country 100! We exchanged messages with Visit Keweenaw and the Moyle family, and they asked us to send over a contract for their review. To our surprise, they sent back a signed contract within an hour, not just for next year but through the 2030 race season! The Copper Country 100 will be the season finale and year-end banquet for the next four years! Easter in 2027, so we did have to push back the Copper Country 100 by a week, but in the future, it will run on backto-back weekends with the Ironwood, MI, event at Gogebic Community College’s Mt Zion. Thank you for an incredible race season, and we look forward to seeing you at the summer trade shows this offseason! Sincerely, Todd

2026 MIDWEST RIDE-IN: A STRONG SHOWING IN MINNESOTA The 2026 Midwest Ride-In proved once again why it’s one of the most anticipated snowmobile gatherings in the country, drawing riders and enthusiasts to Dayton for a weekend packed with history, riding, and community. Held at its new home at Dehn’s Event Center near French Lake, this year’s event brought fresh energy, and it delivered. From the moment gates opened, the grounds were filled with vintage sleds, swap meet treasures, and a steady flow of attendees eager to experience everything the Ride-In has to offer. The new location was widely praised for its improved space, layout, and overall flow, helping elevate the event to another level. Despite less-than-perfect snow conditions, riders still made the most of it. Trail rides remained a highlight, with groups heading out and proving that great memories don’t depend on perfect snow. The atmosphere stayed positive all weekend, with bonfires, social events, and plenty of storytelling bringing riders together. The Midwest Ride-In continues to stand out as the world’s largest vintage and classic snowmobile event, attracting visitors from across the U.S., Canada, and beyond. From the indoor sled displays to the fashion show and live auctions, there was no shortage of things to see and do, making it just as enjoyable for spectators as it was for riders. More than anything, the 2026 event reinforced what makes the Ride-In special: the people. The shared passion for snowmobiling, the appreciation for the sport’s history, and the strong sense of community were on full display. With strong attendance, positive feedback, and a successful transition to its new venue, it’s clear the Midwest Ride-In is not only back, but stronger than ever. Looking ahead, the momentum from this year sets the stage for even bigger things in the future.

1-2-3 Overall Podium Sweep Reinforces RZR Pro R Factory As Undisputed Force in UTV Racing olaris Off Road and the RZR Factory Racing team delivered another dominant performance at the legendary San Felipe 250 in San Felipe, Mexico. Brock Heger secured the Pro UTV Open Class victory, earning back-to-back wins at the iconic desert race and extending Polaris’ winning streak at the San Felipe 250 to three consecutive years. Heger started eighth off the line and dominated the Pro UTV Open Class from start to finish, utilizing the raw power, stability, and durability of the RZR Pro R Factory to methodically dismantle the field. Behind him, first-year RZR Factory Racing driver Joe Terrana charged to his first podium with the RZR Factory Racing team. Terrana’s second-place finish and Polaris racer Dallas Gonzalez Jr.’s hard-fought third place locked out the RZR Pro R Factory podium sweep. Piloting a brand-new RZR Pro R Factory, Gonzalez had just seven days to receive, prep, and line up for one of the toughest races in the sport. With only 20 miles of shake-down time before taking the green flag, his podium finish showcases both his raw talent and the platform’s readiness. San Felipe doesn’t hand out wins; the brutal 281-mile course is a gauntlet of whoops, sharp rock sections, and wide-open dry lake beds that push both driver and machine to the limit. This year’s race was no different. The famous whoops tested suspension, while high-speed sections demanded total control

and confidence. It’s exactly the kind of terrain the RZR Pro R Factory was built to withstand, reinforcing the RZR Pro R Factory as the undisputed force in UTV desert racing. Starting positions at San Felipe are determined by random draw, putting Heger deep in the pack where a clear course and visibility are everything. But where others might push early and pay for it later, Heger stayed disciplined, methodically picking off competitors, choosing his lines with precision, and letting the RZR Pro R Factory do the work. He ultimately crossed the line minutes ahead of teammate Joe Terrana.

Terrana, who started fifth, delivered a breakout performance in one of the most chaotic races of the year. Driving the No. 1898 RZR Pro R Factory, he stayed smooth, consistent, and mistakefree through the brutal terrain at the San Felipe 250 to secure second place. Close behind, Dallas Gonzalez Jr. backed it up with an equally impressive drive to finish third, overcoming the same punishing conditions to complete the podium sweep. “We couldn’t be prouder of this team and the way they continue to execute at the highest level,” said Alex Scheuerell, Polaris’ Director of Off-Road Motorsports. “Results like this don’t happen by chance; every detail matters, from prep in the shop to execution on race day. To come away with a 1-2-3 finish, see Joe earn his first podium, and have Dallas step in and finish third in his first race with the RZR Pro R Factory speaks volumes about the depth of this program and the people behind it.” The team will return to action for the Baja 500 on June 3-7, 2026.

THE WORLD’S LARGEST SHORT COURSE OFF-ROAD SERIES

2026 NATIONAL TOUR

“Today my Polaris RZR Pro R Factory performed flawlessly, and it feels amazing to go back-to-back at San Felipe,” said Heger. “Starting eighth reminded me of something my dad always told me, ‘Sometimes slower is faster.’ I stayed patient, picked my lines, and trusted the car. I’m also pumped to see Joe get his first podium with the team.”

TRAIL NEWS

THE STATE LINE TRAILS Ironwood, Michigan, long known for its deep forests, mining heritage, and proximity to Lake Superior, is now officially the centerpiece of a two-state ATV/ORV trail system that connects the rugged wilderness of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the expansive trail network of northern Wisconsin. he newly expanded State Line ATV/ORV Trail now allows riders to travel directly from downtown Ironwood to Wakefield, and beyond into Michigan’s larger ORV network. For the first time, off-roaders can officially cross the state line (with both Michigan and Wisconsin permits) via a designated, maintained trail that begins in Downtown Ironwood at the Montreal River, the natural boundary between Wisconsin and Michigan. This game-changing connection not only opens up thousands of miles of riding opportunities but places Ironwood at the heart of it all. Connecting States, Communities, and Riders The trail ties together existing Wisconsin trails from Hurley and Mercer with Michigan’s vast system, which stretches across the Upper Peninsula. Riders can now embark from northern Wisconsin, cross into Ironwood, then head east through Wakefield and deeper into the wild terrain of the U.P. It’s a longawaited connection that trail enthusiasts have dreamed of for years, and Ironwood is now the gateway. Scenic Beauty in Every Direction The trail itself is more than just a route; it’s a ride through the stunning natural beauty of the Northwoods. Riders pass through the Ottawa National Forest, alongside streams, over ridges, and near iconic sights. In the fall, the trail offers frontrow views to some of the most vibrant foliage in the United States.

resources and recognition to a system that has long relied on grassroots support. Beyond the trails themselves, the economic ripple effects are already being felt. Riders traveling longer distances need places to stay, eat, and refuel, not just their machines, but themselves. Ironwood’s lodging, restaurants, and small businesses stand to benefit from increased traffic, especially as the region gains visibility as a cross-state riding destination. Ironwood, at the Center of it All The State Line ATV/ORV Trail is more than a new path through the woods; it’s a bold connection between states, between communities, and between the past and the future. It puts Ironwood, Michigan, squarely on the map as the heart of a bistate trail system that will bring thousands of riders into the U.P. and send others southward into Wisconsin. So, gear up, gas up, and get ready. Ironwood is no longer just a dot on the border. It’s the center of the trail-riding universe in the Upper Midwest. Visit Downtown Ironwood’s historic Depot Park, which acts as a central trailhead for both trail systems. Check out ad on page 7.

Whether you’re looking for a short scenic loop or a multi-day backcountry trek, the new trail opens the door to endless adventure. A Local Effort Local organizations have been instrumental in reaching this milestone. The Gogebic Range Trail Authority has spent years developing and maintaining trails throughout the region, advocating for connectivity and responsible use. The new state designation amplifies those efforts, bringing additional May/June 2026 21

HOLLY OAKS ORV PARK ince 2020, Holly Oaks ORV Park has been a year-round adventure destination in northern Oakland County. Created from former and active sand and gravel mines, the 215-acre park is crisscrossed with old mining roads and features extreme terrain that ranges from mud flats to 120’+ vertical cliffs. The park originally opened with 113 acres. Since then, it has nearly doubled in size with the 2022 addition of the North 60 area offering 62 acres as a scramble area and another 40-acre scramble area opening in September 2025. “As mining operations ceased, we knew there would be additional acreage for park use,” Holly Oaks ORV Park Supervisor Jamie Weasel said. “The older mining roads in this area have extreme terrain that provides a thrilling off-roading ride. We’re excited to offer this space as a scramble area so park users can create their own unique experiences.” Riders love the freedom of the scramble areas since they get to explore on their own terms. Many practice their driving skills or simply enjoy the exhilaration of zipping through mud flats, climbing vertical cliffs, and maneuvering through rocky areas.

terrain vehicles or ATVs and motorcycles. Its terrain includes 4x4 trails, single track trails, steep hills, water crossings, rock crawls and more. Located off I-75 at Grange Hall Road and Dixie Highway near Groveland Oaks County Park and Campground, Holly Oaks is a joint state-county project, operated by Oakland County Parks in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Events, Activities, and More In addition to a year-round riding calendar, Holly Oaks ORV Park hosts many events and activities. It is home to the popular Disability Dirt Series, when an off-roading ride is provided for a rider with disabilities and one guest, thanks to an active group of volunteer drivers. Detroit Winterfest is held in January, and Detroit 4Fest is scheduled in September. Each feature off-roading fun, top brands, live music, vendors, and more. Holly Oaks ORV Park is also available for corporate rental as its unique topography and rugged terrain make it ideal for uses such as testing and showcasing ground vehicle technologies; ground vehicle swim tests; outdoor photography; automotive videography; and company events and team-building activities.

Holly Oaks ORV Park is a ride at your own risk, as hazards constantly change, making each visit different than the one before. Vehicle operators should be aware of the terrain before they proceed. Amenities Continue to Expand The park features a Jeep-branded Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station, the second of its kind in the state of Michigan, that opened in 2022. In 2023, a youth area opened so younger drivers can practice their skills. In 2025, Holly Oaks introduced two solar restrooms powered by solar panels and three 12-volt batteries. CJ RAMSTAD/NORTH SHORE STATE TRAIL: Note: One of our all time favorites. MSPN founder, CJ Ramstad, the former editor of Snow Week, Snowmobile, Snow Goer, Supertrax, and Sledder, owner of MSPN, publisher of Minnesota Snowmobiling and Minnesota Offroad, and a motorized recreation advocate for over 40 years, died along with his son JJ, in a tragic car accident in 2007. The North Shore Trail was one of his favorite places to ride. It’s one of the few snowmobile trails in the state that bears a person’s name. The CJ Ramstad/North Shore State Trail is a 146-mile-long multi-purpose, natural surface trail from Duluth to Grand Marais, Minnesota. The trail runs through St. Louis, Lake, and Cook counties in northeastern Minnesota, winding its way through the forests on the ridgeline overlooking Lake Superior. NOR’WESTER LODGE: Note: For an awesome saddle bag ride, access this place after touring up the CJ Ramstad / North Shore State Trail. Located on the scenic Gunflint Trail, about 30 miles from Grand Marais, you’ll find this absolute gem. Hidden in the heart of the Superior National Forest, it offers riding opportunities like none other. Early deep snows, lasting well into April. Seemingly endless dirt riding, with lots of backcountry, old logging roads to explore. And the fall colors there are spectacular, all highlighted with an abundance of wildlife sightings, including the occasional moose. The fishing can be awesome as well.

EVENTS RIDE THE SHORE, JULY 17-18 mnatvriders.com The Minnesota ATV Riders crew invites you to join us in July for Ride the Shore! With some of the most scenic views in the state paired with some of the best ATV and SxS trails in the state, Silver Bay is our go-to. We will once again map out an amazing route for riders to follow to see all the natural beauty that the area has to offer. Not only is Ride the Shore a great reason to check out some of the best trails, it also makes a huge economic impact on the ATV-friendly communities of Silver Bay, Beaver Bay, and Finland. But the biggest reason for the ride is to help raise money for the Minnesota Veterans Home. Money raised at RTS is donated directly to the Minnesota Veterans Home Activities Department. This allows veterans to get out and enjoy all kinds of activities like fishing, RC car racing, bonfires, BBQs, and yes, even ATV riding!
