hope everyone has had an amazing summer and was able to enjoy some sunshine, time with friends and family, and maybe even a few outdoor adventures. Summer always seems to fly by, but this one has been especially memorable. One of the highlights was attending the International Snowmobile Congress (ISC) in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. This was such an incredible experience—not only because of the beautiful location, but because of the people, the conversations, and the opportunity to learn and grow within the snowmobile community. It was so great to reconnect with many familiar faces and catch up with friends from across the snowmobile world. There’s nothing quite like sharing ideas, stories, and laughs with people who are just as passionate about the sport as you are. I also had the chance to meet many new people from all over, and I’m grateful for the connections and friendships made throughout the week. Events like ISC are a great reminder of how strong and close-knit the snowmobiling community really is.

Throughout the week, I attended meetings, breakout sessions, and discussions that offered valuable insights into the future of snowmobiling—everything from trespassing to safety, youth involvement, and American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) updates. It’s always inspiring to hear what other clubs, states, and provinces are doing, and to bring some of those ideas and energy back home. I even had a great time taking a bus tour around some of the island and spent time at the local horse track! The entire event was wellorganized and welcoming, and I’m truly thankful to have been a part of it.

With summer starting to wind down, I’m already getting excited for what’s ahead. Hay Days is right around the corner, and it’s always one of the biggest and best events of the year. I’m also looking forward to all the fall shows in September and October—there’s just something about that time of year when the weather starts to cool and anticipation for snowmobile season starts building. Whether you’re into racing, trail riding, or just love being part of the community, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Thanks to everyone who made this summer so great—I can’t wait to see what the upcoming season brings. Let’s enjoy these last few weeks of summer and get ready for an awesome snowmobile season!

NEWS BITES

509 ISSUES HELMET RECALL AFFECTING

MORE THAN 200,000

509, along with parent company Polaris, has announced a large-scale helmet recall after a single reported crash where a helmet came off during impact, leading to a concussion. The issue prompted action from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on June 8.

The recall involves about 201,200 helmets sold in the U.S. and an additional 26,800 in Canada. These include a wide variety of 509-branded helmets as well as 509 for Polaris models. It mainly affects MX-style helmets that are used with goggles, but it also includes some full-face and modular designs. The impacted units were produced between 2020 and the present.

The recall centers around the Fidlock chin strap system — a magnetic buckle closure — and specifically how the strap is routed through it. Polaris issued an updated manual in May outlining the issue and offering a solution. In many cases, the fix appears to be simple, and helmets may still be usable after making the correction.

However, certain Small and Medium-sized 509 Tactical 2.0 helmets will need to be returned and destroyed.

Models involved include the Altitude, Tactical, Delta, and Mach. Full details are available here: cpsc.gov/Recalls/2025/509-

Recalls-Helmets-Due-to-Risk-of-Head-Injury

Consumers are advised to stop using the helmets immediately. Those who own affected 509 Tactical 2.0 (small/medium manufactured in 2023) or 3.0 helmets manufactured in 2023 should reach out to 509 for a refund, credit, or replacement — no proof of purchase is required. If the helmet is a 509 for Polaris version, owners should contact Polaris directly for their options.

Polaris and 509 are also supplying instructions for how to inspect and fix the strap issue for helmets with Fidlock closures. After confirming their helmet is affected, consumers are advised to dispose of it properly and follow the destruction steps provided online.

Polaris is also providing their customers who have the recalled 509 and 509 for Polaris helmets with Fidlock, with instructions on how to inspect the webbing on the chin strap to make sure it is repaired, by routing it correctly.

Unlike most recalls that cite multiple injuries, this one comes after a single incident, but it was serious enough to take action.

DESTINATIONS FAR & NEAR WITH MEMORIES OH SO DEAR

e all have great snow and dirt riding destinations we can’t wait to go to, or return to, don’t we? Some are far away, some are so near, some are a place we can’t wait to return to, others we can’t wait to see and explore for the very first time. There’s that special trip we take every year with the same group of friends, staying up at the cabin or in the same motel for years, and riding the old familiar trails again. These are surely special. There’s also the special trip we’ve been talking about for years, and now we’re finally going to do it.

The days before are spent making sure the machines are finetuned and ready to roll, checking the trailer lights, repacking trailer wheel bearings, changing the oil in the truck, and packing the necessary gear until we’re ready to hit the road. It doesn’t matter if the time on the highway is long or short, because regardless of the camaraderie enjoyed in the truck with friends, heading on the next adventure is what matters. The stories about past trips are wonderful memories of days gone by, even if the details in these stories seem to get enhanced a little every time they’re retold over the years. Of course, I can’t wait to make some new memories on the next excursion.

Now, I thoroughly enjoy all these great destinations. I love traveling to all these cool places, but sometimes I (we) forget that these great adventures and memories can be made in the backyard. Talk to anyone who enjoys ORVs, and how does the story always start? It’s always my grandpa, my dad, or maybe my uncle “took me for my first ride when I was,” and the story continues. Don’t you want to be that person who starts a child on the road to a lifetime of memories? They will say for the rest of their life that you took them on their first ride. A million years ago, when I was a kid, that’s how it was done. Now it could be grandma, mom, or an aunt who takes you out for the first adventure of your lifetime. It doesn’t matter, just get them some proper training, and let the fun begin.

When my kids were young, my son and two daughters took a ‘95 Arctic Cat Jag, tied a saucer sled behind it, and put 20 miles on in the backyard riding around in circles on a Sunday afternoon. It all starts with a quick run to the gas station to fill up a couple of gas cans for half of the rides and making sure to plug in the other half of the rides the night before, and you’re ready to roll. The smile on those kids’ faces was priceless. They had so much fun. Almost, I say almost, as much fun as I.

I had this reflection recently, on a late summer Saturday afternoon. With my grandkids, I’m fortunate to be in the position to be this person once again. These great, wonderful memories don’t have to be hundreds of miles away. All you need are a couple of grandkids, add to that a couple of their friends, a couple of ORV vehicles, a campfire with hot dogs, burgers, watermelon, and s’mores, and the memory-making begins.

That afternoon, when the sun started to set, the grandkids and their friends, after hours of riding around the property, finally stopped to eat. As they sat on the ground, dining on the fine campfire-cooked meal, you know what happened?

They started laughing and telling stories about riding around in the yard earlier. It was just like us adults do, and it brought a tear to my eye. They were laughing, eating hot dogs and s’mores, and telling riding stories. If at the next holiday or family function I find them all standing around somewhere telling riding stories (maybe even with some enhanced details, the way we all tend to do), I’ll know my work is done and the mission was a success. Please don’t miss out on the opportunity to turn your backyard into that first great memory for someone.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, my story always starts with: “My uncle took me for my first snowmobile ride when I was 12, and I’ve been hooked ever since.”

The event brought together riders, club leaders, industry reps, and advocates for a week of learning, networking, and celebrating the sport we all love.

Things kicked off Wednesday with the annual FOSPAC (Friends of Snowmobiling Political Action Committee) fundraiser. The funds raised will support pro-snowmobiling candidates for the US Congress, enabling them to participate in informational sessions and networking opportunities.

The conference was packed with action from start to finish. The trade show floor buzzed with energy, featuring a variety of exhibitors from across the industry. Attendees had the chance to take part in several breakout sessions and meetings, covering a wide range of topics including climate change impacts, leadership development, tourism, trespassing solutions, ISMA (International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association) updates, grooming round tables, and of course, the always well-attended ACSA meetings.

On Thursday evening, everyone enjoyed a fun offsite event at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino. Attendees placed their bets and watched the excitement of harness horse racing. One of the featured races was even named in honor of the 57th ISC, sponsored by Soucy. A group of lucky snowmobilers got to head down to the winners’ circle for a photo with the winning horse and driver, making for a truly memorable moment. Friday night was all about the machines and the music during

the groomer reception. Attendees enjoyed live entertainment while walking the grounds and checking out the variety of groomers on display. It was a great chance to relax, connect with others, and see the latest in grooming tech up close.

The week wrapped up Saturday morning with a special guest speaker—Kowboy Mike Hughes, a professional wrestler with a powerful story. He shared his journey, career highlights, and personal experiences that inspired and motivated everyone in the room.

From important conversations and committee meetings to fun social events and powerful storytelling, the 57th ISC was a perfect mix of work and play—bringing together the snowmobile community in the best way possible.
