DEVILS TOWER NATIONAL MONUMENT Rising 1,267 feet straight out of the prairie, Devils Tower is perhaps best known for its role in Steven Spielberg’s movie, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” Designated as the nation’s first national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, Devils Tower is one of the most challenging rock-climbing destinations in the country. A number of less-strenuous hiking trails surround the tower itself, which rests along the red banks of the Belle Fourche River in northeastern Wyoming.

DEADWOOD, SD There was a time when it wasn’t safe to walk the boardwalks of the wildest town in the West, but that was a hundred years and a dozen gunfights ago. This is the town that welcomed Wild Bill Hickok, then wept when he was gunned down holding aces and eights, forever after known as the “Deadman’s Hand.” This is the place that witnessed the one-woman cyclone known as Calamity Jane, who claimed she could out-shoot, out-spit and out-swear any man, and usually did.

Today, both are buried side-by-side in Deadwood’s “Boot Hill.” Visitors now encounter brick streets, period lighting, old-time trolleys, Victorian facades and one of the largest historic preservation projects in the world, all fueled by an unlikely benefactor – limited stakes gaming, complete with poker, blackjack and the notorious one-armed bandits.

SPEARFISH CANYON The breathtaking limestone palisades of this creekcarved gore are more ancient than the Grand Canyon – albeit much closer together. The narrow walls of Spearfish Canyon, which rise up to 1,000 feet above the creek bed, are among the most spectacular scenery in the Black Hills. Cascading waterfalls quench the thirst of quaking aspen, gnarled oaks, sweet-smelling spruce and the ubiquitous ponderosa pine, which grow right off the edges of rocky precipices. The diverse array of plant life provides a comfortable home for deer, mountain goats, porcupines and bobcats. The canyon was accessible only by horseback until a railroad line to Deadwood was completed in

Just a short boat ride away from Rwanda’s Lake Kivu shoreline, there rests a secluded coffee island often mistaken for a mirage: Gishamwana Island. More than 35,000 coffee trees are planted on this site, and it’s milled and dried here as well, completing the production cycle. The island is biodiverse, with environmental harmony in mind, and cows, goats, and even an albino rabbit coexists with the coffee trees.

This island coffee farm is privately owned

by Emmanuel Rwakagara, the founder of COOPAC, and the coffee is grown organically amongst forestry that provides a level of shade much greater than is typical for African coffee. Also, by nature of Gishamwana’s isolation from other coffee, many diseases and pests quite simply have not made the boat ride over.

What is the difference between iLASIK vs PRK? The biggest difference between iLASIK and PRK is that iLASIK involves the creation of a thin-flap within the cornea. This flap is then folded back and a laser is used to reshape the eye to improve vision. This flap is then replaced and the eye begins healing. In PRK no flap is created.

The epithelium, or thin skin layer on the cornea, is gently removed and a laser is applied to reshape the eye.

A protective contact lens is then placed and the eye begins healing.

The results of iLASIK and PRK are the same, however the recovery of iLASIK is quicker than PRK. Most patients having iLASIK are able to return to work the next day, while patients

having PRK are typically able to return to work four to five days after treatment.

What’s the cost?

The cost for iLASIK or PRK is typically around $2,000. It depends on which Vision Plan you choose. We offer a Standard plan or an Extended plan.

Can I feel the laser?

You will not be able to feel the laser reshaping your eye. You will, however, be able to smell the vapor this laser creates. Most laser treatments are between 15 and 45 seconds.

What happens if I move my eye? iLASIK and custom PRK utilize advanced tracking technologies that monitor your eye position hundreds of times a second. If your eye moves, the laser works to keep the treatment aligned.

The surgeon is also monitoring the treatment.
