PARTICIPATE IN FREE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES ACROSS OAKVILLE THROUGHOUT JUNE
Get ready to welcome the summer season with a month packed with exciting opportunities for residents to learn, participate and engage in free programs and activities. Join the Town of Oakville and community partners as we come together to celebrate National Indigenous History Month, Pride Month, Recreation and Parks Month and Seniors Month.
National Indigenous History Month
The Town of Oakville is situated on Treaty 14 and Treaty 22 lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee. Oakville is currently home to many different First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We acknowledge and thank the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation for being stewards of this territory. In recognition of National Indigenous History Month, residents are encouraged to:
* Learn more about Treaty 22, which encompasses the lands at 12 Mile Creek (Bronte Creek) and 16 Mile Creek in Oakville, and Treaty 14 (Head of the Lake Purchase) through 13 permanent educational signs in prominent Oakville locations including Erchless Estate, Sovereign House, and Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Centre as part of The Debwewin Project.
* Visit the orange crosswalk at Thomas and Church streets. The crosswalk honours children of the residential school system, and provides the public with not only the opportunity to reflect on generational impact, trauma and oppression endured by Indigenous peoples in Canada, but to also learn more about the treaty lands Oakville resides on, and Indigenous culture. The intersection also features a utility cabinet covered in a Moccasin Identifier Project design of four moccasins representative of the four linguistic groups in Ontario and a permanent interpretive sign.
* Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day by watching the Canadian Premier of The Beehive from B.C. based Métis Director Alexander Lasheras on June 21 from 6:30 to 11:15 p.m. at the Five Drive-In. The Oakville Festivals of Film & Arts event, in partnership with the Town of Oakville, Grandmother's Voices and the Five Drive-In, begins with a traditional opening ceremony, and includes an Indigenous film screening, food, shopping and drumming.
* Participate in the family-friendly Moccasin Identifier drop-in workshop on June 21 from noon to 2 p.m. and learn about bannock and Indigenous history from noon to 1 p.m. Both events take place at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate, 8 Navy St. More details about Community Acts of Allyship:
Bannock Bake-Off event in partnership with Oakville Public Library and Debwewin Oakville will be shared soon.
* Join Indigenous Elder Ma-Nee Chacaby for Fireside Storytelling on June 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate. This event is
in partnership with Sheridan College.
* Enjoy a walk along one of two Moccasin Trails and explore the history of the lands from an Indigenous perspective. Follow one trail along Sixteen Mile Creek Inner Valley to Dundas Street West at Lions Valley or the other trail located along Bronte Creek Heritage Trail near Rebecca and Mississaga streets.
* Visit Tannery Park and explore the Moccasin Identifier and outdoor classroom gathering circle and learn about Indigenous history by walking along the park's path and reading the "Rooted in the Land" history wall, which was created in consultation with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
Pride Month
* Display or wear a rainbow to show your support. The progress rainbow flag will fly at Town Hall during the month of June in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
* Walk with pride along one of Oakville's rainbow crosswalks located on Lakeshore Road at the intersections of Navy Street, and Bronte Road.
Recreation and Parks Month
* Residents of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in free recreation and culture drop-in activities and more. Visit the town's Drop-In Programs page to browse opportunities and reserve your spot.
* Visit our parks and open space, including our gardens, off-leash dog parks, playgrounds, skateboard parks, splash pads, sports fields, courts, and harbours. Oakville offers more than 1,700 hectares of parkland (not sure if this number is accurate anymore), nearly 250 kilometres of trails and more than 200 parks!
Seniors Month
* The town has five seniors centres in Oakville with a goal of providing a welcoming, accessible and supportive environment for older adults. Learn more about the town's Seniors Services.
* Get active and creative this summer with some recreation and culture drop-in activities and more. Registration for weekly summer programming opens on Wednesday, May 31 at 7 a.m. Visit the town's Drop-In Programs page to browse opportunities.

MARK SAUNDERS BRINGS AMATEUR ARTS ORGANIZATIONS TO THE FRONT OF THE STAGE
TORONTO: As Mayor, Mark Saunders would take steps to create more affordable spaces for amateur arts organizations, as well as make it easier for them to access grants from the Toronto Arts Council.
Community arts take place all across the city in different forms: visual arts, dance, music, and theatre. Typically run by volunteers, these organizations give amateur artists and performers a chance to engage in their art, and they contribute to the cultural life of the community through performances and exhibitions.
Their activities help bring in tourists, support the development and well-being of young people, seniors, and people with disabilities, give residents an opportunity to participate in the arts, and by increasing residents' interest in the arts, they support the professional ar ts community. But finding affordable venues in the city remains a challenge.
"While amateur arts organizations enrich our communities, they have limited resources and are hard-pressed to find affordable spaces in Toronto for everything from rehearsals to competitions to exhibits," said Saunders. "The City needs to make it easier for residents to engage in amateur arts, and finding affordable venues would make a big difference."
The Toronto Arts Council does fund non-profit groups, but in pursuing their worthy goal of including more diverse communities, they have put strain on established amateur organizations who rely on grant monies. Diversity, equity and inclusion should mean that no one is excluded from any opportunity, and organizations need to be aware of, and remove their barriers. It shouldn't penalize organizations that do n't achieve participation from every community in the area they serve.
As Mayor, Mark Saunders would support amateurs arts organizations in Toronto by:
* Helping organizations access non-traditional venues for performances, rehearsals, and exhibitions by supporting public-private partnerships and by-law amendments that would give them access to new spaces.
* Requiring the Toronto Music Advisory Committee to include a representative for the amateur arts community in its membership.
* Reviewing Toronto Arts Council's approach to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as it relates to their granting policies, to ensure that smallbudget amateur groups are not excluded.
The full plan is available at MarkSaundersforToronto.ca.
IMMIGRATION MINISTER SEAN FRASER AGREES FOR PROBE INTO FAKE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS CASE

He also stated that victims of fraud will be given an opportunity to present their case.
The member of Rajya Sabha has demanded a thorough investigation into the case of issuance of fake college acceptance letters and admission fee receipts by unscrupulous agents, granting of valid visas and immigration clearance of innocent Punjabi youth who are now facing deportation from Canada.
Fraser also recognised the immense contribution of international students bringing to Canada and his government remained committed to supporting victims of fraud.
Sahney appealed that the Canadian Border Security Agency should temporarily suspend deportation of Punjabi youth until required witnesses can testify before the investigating committee.
He added that the future of 700 Indian Punjabi students is at stake.
"They went to Canada on fake admission letters, got visas and immigration clearance, studied in Canada and are now doing jobs... they cannot be deported as they are innocent and are victims of a bigger conspiracy."
Sahney also appealed that it is very difficult for individual students to fight their cases in Canadian courts, a few of them got success recently. The Canadian government must take a sympathetic collective view of all students suffering under these unfavourable circumstances.

The official statement from the Vancouver Police stated, " Vancouver Police are investigating the homicide of a 28-year-old man after he was shot this morning.
Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported one man had been shot outside a South Vancouver banquet hall near Fraser Street and South East Marine Drive at 1:30 a.m. Patrol officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived, but he died from his injuries. Investigators believe this was a targeted shooting related to the ongoing gang conflict. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500. "
US DEBT CEILING DEAL AGREED IN PRINCIPLE
The White House and the Republicans have agreed in principle to raise the US debt ceiling and avert a default after weeks of bitter negotiations, local media reported. The deal still needs to be approved by a divided US Congress. President Joe Biden described the agreement as a "compromise", while House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said it "has historic reductions in spending", BBC reported. The US Treasury earlier warned the country would run out of money to pay its bills on June 5 without a deal, BBC reported. Such a default would upend the US economy and disrupt global markets.
The US must borrow money to fund the government because it spends more than it raises in taxes.
Republicans have been seeking spending cuts in areas such as education and other social programmes in exchange for raising the $31.4 trillion debt limit, a law that caps how much debt the US government can accrue.
Senior party members have said they will not raise the debt ceiling unless the government reduces its spending in the years ahead, while Democrats have countered with proposals to raise certain taxes, BBC reported. Details of the new deal have not officially been released - but CBS reported that non-defence government spending would be kept flat for two years and then rise by 1 per cent in 2025.

ONTARIO HIGHLIGHTS GROWING AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR DURING INVESTMENT AND TRADE MISSION TO GERMANY AND POLAND
TORONTO — The Ontario government has concluded a successful investment and trade mission to Germany and Poland to promote the province’s growing automotive sector and to explore new opportunities for investment and job creation. The mission, led by Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, included meetings with German automakers Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.
“We continue to strengthen Ontario’s end-to-end EV supply chain by building a competitive business environment that attracts investments from companies around the world,” said Minister Fedeli. “These investments will create more good-paying jobs for workers across our automotive supply chain and drive economic growth.” Ontario representatives met with the senior leadership of Volkswagen Group in Wolfsburg and PowerCo SE in Salzgitter to thank them for the Group’s historic $7 billion investment in St. Thomas, the future location of Volkswagen’s first overseas battery cell manufacturing plant. The meeting included discussions about future opportunities with the company as they build out their footprint in Ontario. The province is also working with Volkswagen to organize a suppliers’ day to help source Ontario suppliers for the new battery cell plant, helping to ensure companies across the province can benefit from Volkswagen’s major investment.
Additional highlights from the mission included meetings with executives from Mercedes-Benz and global automotive parts suppliers ElringKlinger and Eberspaecher Group to promote Ontario as a leading destination for investment. ElringKlinger currently operates a manufacturing facility in Leamington, and Eberspaecher has subsidiaries in Mississauga and Concord.
“Ontario is an industry leader in the automotive and EV sectors,” said Trevor Dauphinee, CEO of Invest Ontario. “Invest Ontario is laser-focused on fostering a dynamic end-to-end supply chain, supported by our impressive assets, including over 700 parts suppliers, and 500 skilled tool, die, and mold makers.”
Building on the success of the province’s 2022 investment and trade mission, Ontario representatives also met with government representatives from the German state of Baden-Württemberg.
Ontario and Baden-Württemberg share a close economic relationship that was formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) first signed over 30 years ago. The MOU was renewed last year and fosters collaboration on initiatives across a range of sectors, including automotive and electric vehicles.
“Ontario and Baden-Württemberg are economic powerhouses and global centres for the auto industry,” said Dr. Nicole HoffmeisterKraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism for BadenWürttemberg. “We are pleased to explore opportunities to strengthen trade and investment ties, particularly in the EV and EV battery sector, during this time of transformation for the auto industry.” With its competitive business environment, world-class workforce, state-of-the-art research and development facilities, and abundance of critical minerals, Ontario continues to be a prime location for businesses worldwide to invest and grow.

WHY PAKISTAN'S MILITARY ESTABLISHMENT TURNED AGAINST ITS BLUE-EYED BOY
Former Pakistan premier Imran Khan has seen the best and the worst of times in his relationship with the country's powerful military establishment.
From being the blue-eyed boy, who was taken very well care of and was extended all support to become the country's Prime Minister, to becoming the worst mistake of the same institution, Imran Khan is now the Frankenstein's monster, who needs to be neutralised.
It is a known and established fact that Khan's political struggles, his anti-
government protests, rallies, long marches and political movements were backed by the then sitting military establishment, which supported Khan's rise in the political arena and presented him as the 'hero', the saviour of Pakistan's dignity, its progress and its spiritual transformation.
In 2018, when Khan won the elections and took office as the Prime Minister, his opposition parties used to call him "selected", terming him as the one who was brought to power through a selection process of the military establishment.
Khan himself has said that he had the complete backing of the then sitting Army chief General (Retd) Qamar Jawed Bajwa, the intelligence agencies and the institution at large, who he said had to be asked to call and force his ally ruling party members to attend parliamentary sessions and important meetings to vote in favour of various decisions.
But, at the time of Khan's government, some decisions by him created major rifts between the military establishment and him, which experts believe became the reason that turned the military establishment's guns against him. One of the decisions was reversal of many projects of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which were forced to go into review on orders of Khan, tipping off Beijing, Islamabad's saviour in its difficult financial times.
The second reason why the military turned against Khan was his ignorance towards the Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia, which was irked by Khan's announcement of forming a joint alliance with Turkey and Malaysia to represent the Muslim world. Saudi Arabia took a very strong notice of the matter and warned Khan of consequences if any such attempts were made.
The third reason was the attitude of Khan during the time when the opposition formed an alliance and decided to oust him through a vote of no confidence in the Parliament.
"Imran Khan insisted Bajwa to come to his rescue and stop the formation
of the alliance. While Bajwa asked him to negotiate a way out with his opposition parties, Khan refused to have any consultation with his opposition through direct talks and pressurised the military establishment to stop them," said a source with inside information of the events.
"Khan seemed to be offering an unlimited extension to Bajwa if he would stop the VONC. And if not, he threatened to remove Bajwa as Army chief," the source added.
It was then that not only Bajwa decided to part ways with Khan, but also further weakened Khan by letting his party break into pieces with coalition partners defecting, resulting in a successful vote of no confidence that ousted him of power.
And today, with Bajwa retiring and General Asim Munir taking over as Army chief, Khan's hopes of any access of engagement with the military establishment have ended.
"Khan's difficult history with COAS General Asim Munir, his full-fledged campaign to stop his appointment, and the most recent incident of May 9 when Khan's supporters attacked military installations, can be seen as the last nail in the coffin for Khan's political existence," said the source. Today, when Khan is being isolated of his political support and is being left alone, his demands of negotiations are increasing with every passing day. However, Khan's demands are deflecting on the closed doors of the establishment.
"Khan was a military project, their best pick as a political front face... And their worst mistake," the source said.

SAUDI ARABIA RESTORES DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH CANADA
ONTARIO INVESTING $4.7M TO PROVIDE FREE TRAINING FOR AUTO WORKERS
LONDON — The Ontario government is investing more than $4.7 million to support two innovative projects to help over 360 people land full-time jobs in the province’s growing automotive manufacturing sector. These free programs will provide participants with skills for rewarding careers in machine operation, assembly, quality control, and logistics while also preparing automotive technicians and those interested in the industry for work in the emerging electric vehicle field.
“These new programs will not only provide people with opportunities for good-paying jobs and rewarding careers, but they’ll also help support our growing auto industry,” said Premier Doug Ford. “We’re securing the future of our province’s auto sector, attracting billions of dollars in new investments for electric vehicle and battery production and ensuring the cars of the future are built right here in Ontario, by Ontario workers.”
The first project, managed by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association (APMA), will include three-month paid job placements through their network of more than 300 members. Jobseekers, including those from underrepresented groups, will complete online and hands-on training focused on manufacturing essentials, health and safety, effective oral communication, planning, troubleshooting and other critical industry skills. After completing the program, each participant will transition into fulltime employment.
“Careers in the auto sector are meaningful, well-paying, and for many people, offer a path to a better life,” said Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “Our government will continue to invest in innovative training programs that help people gain the skills they need to land life-changing jobs so they can earn bigger paycheques for themselves and their families.”
The second project, managed by the Automotive Industries Association
of Canada (AIA), will help 90 technicians and 70 jobseekers gain the skills needed to transition and launch their careers in the electric vehicle industry. Training will be offered at Conestoga College (Guelph Campus), Fanshawe College (London Campus) and St. Lawrence College (Cornwall Campus) and will consist of in-person classroom and shop components.
“As the automotive sector continues to face labour shortages, partnerships like the Skills Development Fund allow us to focus on building new talent,” said Flavio Volpe, President of the Auto Parts Manufacturers’ Association. “Through our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program, we are able to support employers in their efforts to access, train and retain meaningful employment for new hires who may have been historically excluded from these careers.” These projects are funded through the government’s Skills Development Fund, a $700 million initiative, which supports ground-breaking programs that connect jobseekers with the skills and training they need to find well-paying careers close to home.
"Getting our workers the skills they need and more people into the automotive trades is essential,” said Jean-François Champagne, President of the Automotive Industries Association Of Canada. “Automotive tradespeople provide Ontarians with essential vehicle repair and maintenance services that keep Ontario’s more than nine million vehicles in road-safe condition. AIA Canada looks forward to continued collaboration with the Ontario government and our post-secondary partners to ensure the industry is ready to service the vehicles of both today and tomorrow."
Over the last two and a half years, Ontario has attracted over $25 billion in automotive and EV battery-related investments, including a $7 billion investment from Volkswagen to build their first overseas EV battery manufacturing facility in St. Thomas.
CANADA INDIA TRADE TALKS ENTER CRITICAL STAGE
Hello friends.
As some of you know already, this month saw a real push towards the final stages of an Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA) between Canada and India. I am referring to the high-level visit by India’s Minister of Commerce, Hon. Piyush Goyal. Minister Goyal is known for his pragmatic style of functioning and admired for his focused and time-bound guidance on an impressive number of portfolios that he oversees. Besides, he also carries a nice political heft as the leader of the ruling party in India’s upper house, the Rajya Sabha.
So, when we first heard about his visit to Canada to meet with our Minister of International Trade, Hon. Mary Ng, we knew the stage was getting set for a fundamental shift in the way each side viewed each other. To her great credit, Minister Ng paved the way for the breakthrough by taking a trade mission to India in 2022 conveying to the government of India Canada’s earnest desire to tackle all issues regarding EPTA in a mutually respectful manner. I recall that during an interaction with CIF members, Minister Ng even pointed out that how the two ministers after referring to each other by their respective honorifics formally, was on first name basis by the end of bilateral discussions. CIF was among the select few organizations who had the occasion to interact with Minister Goyal during his brief stay in Toronto. Many of our members are deeply engaged in the Canada India corridor by way of trade and investment. The Minister was open and detailed in his replies to the queries we raised. We came away convinced that between Minister Ng and Minister Goyal, we have two people who can definitely get this agreement done.
Minister Goyal is now back in India. But the professionals under their leadership are hard at work fine-tuning the tone and content of a possible Early Progress Trade Agreement. Reports also mention that both ministers are personally supervising the progress of the negotiations. At least that is the impression we get from various sources. Maybe, we can expect an announcement before September 2023. And that would be a wonderful occasion as perhaps our Prime Minister Hon. Justin Trudeau will be in India to attend the G-20 summit. This bit of news would make it a truly memorable summit especially for the 2 million strong Indo Canadian community.
The future is full of potential. India recently announced an ambitious target of reaching $2 trillion in exports in the next five years. This also means that the country’s needs for goods and services will also show
dramatic growth by way of imports. The trends are very promising. India’s imports in 2023 rose 16.5 per cent to $714 billion as against $613 billion in FY22. This offers never before opportunities for great trading nations like Canada.
There is optimism in both camps that talks, delayed for a decade, are at last running on an even keel. True, there are still many challenges to be overcome through. There will be points of contention that Canada and India might hold divergent views on. Some of these issues might also be the result of the different stages each country is in their respective economic journeys. That is why we at CIF, are particularly keen to see the signing of an EPTA which would be an ideal take off point for more substantial engagement later. This period would also give both sides enough time to test mutual expectations against real outcomes.
Canada India Foundation will be holding two major events during the summer months and both are slated to be ‘hot’ items on the community calendar. We have scheduled the CIF Annual Charity Golf tournament this year at the Lionhead Golf Club, Brampton on August 09, 2023. And of course, our signature event each year that garners not only local but global attention –CIF Global Indian Award Gala that will take place on September 29th, 2023. Hold your dates if you are planning to be there in person. Over the years we have honoured the best of India’s great achievers’ who have earned international respect for their contributions. This year, you might be even more surprised by the winner, very pleasantly I may add. But due to protocol, the name will be announced in due course. Stay tuned and enjoy the coming summer. Thank you
Saudi Arabia and Canada have agreed to restore diplomatic relations and appoint ambassadors, the Saudi foreign ministry announced. The Ministry said on Wednesday in a statement that the decision was made based on the two sides' wishes to restore ties on the basis of mutual respect and common interests, Xinhua news agency reported.
"Canada has appointed a new ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Jean-Philippe Linteau," the Canadian Foreign Ministry said in a statement while announcing the decision.
The move follows discussions between Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the APEC summit in the Thai capital of Bangkok in November 2022, the Ministry added. Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador from Canada in 2018 after a dispute over Canada's demand for Saudi Arabia to release detained activists.

ONTARIO INVESTING IN PROVINCEWIDE HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION
TORONTO — The Ontario government is investing nearly $770,000 to help the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) work with communities to connect people experiencing or at risk of homelessness with the local services and supports they need.
The CAEH will use the funding to provide ongoing support to Ontario’s 47 service managers – who deliver support services and homelessness prevention programs in local communities – so they can maintain and improve local by-name lists. These are real-time lists of people experiencing homelessness that identify their needs. The by-name lists help service managers understand the extent of homelessness in their communities and improve access to resources as soon as they are available. This includes housing assistance, such as supportive housing or rent supplements, and services like Ontario Works or health care.
“The by-name list is a life-changing innovation that ensures those experiencing homelessness have access to the supports and services they need,” said Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
“We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness into 2024 to help service managers access the necessary tools, identify bottlenecks in the system, and in turn, better help their communities.”
Since 2021, Ontario has provided funding to CAEH, which offers support through coaching, tools and webinars so that service managers can spend more time working with their clients than on paperwork. This funding would extend CAEH’s support for another year.
“Our ongoing collaboration with the Province of Ontario is helping service managers across the province build coordinated and efficient local homeless systems,” said Tim Richter, President & CEO of the Canadian
Alliance to End Homelessness. “This important work has helped London and St. Thomas-Elgin end homelessness for veterans and helped five other service managers achieve measurable and verifiable reductions in chronic homelessness – despite a wave of new homelessness happening across the country.” “We are committed to addressing the needs of our province’s most vulnerable by investing in long-term solutions that connect people directly to services in their communities,” said Nina Tangri, Associate Minister of Housing. “That’s why we’ve invested over 40 per cent more in our homelessness prevention programs – so more people can access the help they need to get back on their feet.” As announced in the 2023 Budget, the province added an additional $202 million each year to the Homelessness Prevention Program and Indigenous Supportive Housing Program. This builds on the government’s investment of nearly $4.4 billion over the past three years to grow and enhance community and supportive housing, address homelessness and respond to COVID19.
ONTARIO LAUNCHES PEAK PERKS AND EXPANDED ENERGY-EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS
TORONTO – The Ontario government is launching the new Peak Perks program to help families save money by conserving energy, as part of the government’s $342 million expansion of Ontario’s energy-efficiency programs that will reduce demands on the provincial grid. The government is also launching three new and enhanced programs for businesses, municipalities, and other institutions, including targeted su pport for greenhouse growers in Southwest Ontario.
“Our government is giving families more ways to lower their energy bills with new energy-efficiency programs like Peak Perks, which will provide families a $75 financial incentive this year in exchange for lowering their energy use at peak times during the summer,” said Todd Smith, Minister of Energy. “The new programs launched today will also help meet the province’s emerging electricity system needs by providing annual electricity savings equivalent to powering approximately 130,000 homes every year and reduce costs for consumers by over $650 million by 2025.” The new Peak Perks program provides a financial incentive for residential customers who are willing to conserve energy and reduce their air conditioning at peak times and have an eligible smart thermostat connected to a central air conditioning system or heat pump unit.
Participants will receive $75 for enrolling this year, as well as $20 for each year they stay enrolled in the program starting in 2024.
Residential customers can participate in Peak Perks by enrolling and giving their thermostat manufacturer secure access to their thermostat. Participants will be notified when one of the maximum 10 annual temperature change events occurs directly by their thermostat manufacturer on their mobile app and on their thermostat. Peak Perks has been designed to ensure participants are always in control and customers can optout of any temperature change event without impacting their incentive.
The Peak Perks program will be available starting in June. Interested customers can visit SaveOnEnergy.ca/PeakPerks today to sign-up for the program waitlist and receive an email notice with information on how to enroll.
In addition to the financial incentive provided by Peak Perks, reducing electricity use during peak demand hours in the summer months helps customers to lower their monthly electricity bills as these periods tend to be associated with the highest costs for power. Lowering demand during peak periods also allows the province to reduce electricity sector emissions, by reducing the need for electricity generation facilities that only run at times of peak demand such as natural gas.
Ontario has also launched three new and enhanced programs, including an expanded custom Retrofit program for business, municipalities and other institutions, targeted support for greenhouse growers in Southwest Ontario, as well enhancements to the existing Local Initiatives Program.

INDIA PM MODI INAUGURATES NEW PARLIAMENT HOUSE
After installing the historic 'Sengol' near the Lok Sabha Speaker's chair, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building here.
After the 'puja' and 'havan', the Prime Minister received the historic 'Sengol' from the Adheenams' seers and then installed it inside the new Parliament building near the Lok Sabha Speaker's Chair. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accompanied the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister along with Birla unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
The Prime Minister also felicitated the workers, who were involved in the construction and development of the new Parliament building by giving
them shawls and a momentos. PM Modi then along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Cabinet ministers attended a 'Sarva-dharma' (allreligious) prayer ceremony at the new Parliament building.
The inaugural ceremony began with an early morning havan. Representatives of 25 political parties and many dignitaries, including chief ministers and ministers, are in attendance for the inauguration.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar and Jitendra Singh, chief ministers of several states and BJP president J.P. Nadda were also present on the occasion.
Twenty opposition parties, including the Congress, are boycotting the inauguration of the new four-storey Parliament House.
AMIT SHAH IN VIOLENCE-HIT MANIPUR, TO HOLD TALKS TO CHECK HOSTILITIES
prevailing situation in Manipur.
Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande and Eastern Command Army chief Lt Gen R.P. Kalita had separately visited the sensitive districts last week and held meetings with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Chief Security Advisor to Manipur Kuldiep Singh, leaders of civil society groups and influential community leaders.
Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister had reviewed the security situation along with Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and other top officials. Except for some minor incidents, no major case of violence was reported from the 11 hill districts on Monday.
The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to Yasin Malik, chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) over the NIA's plea seeking his death penalty in a terror funding case.
A division bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh also issued production warrants for Malik and listed the case for hearing next on August 9.
Appearing for National Investigation Agency (NIA), Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta argued that it was a "rarest of rare case". A copy of detailed order is awaited.
The high court has also sought recommendations of the Law Commission on Yasin's death penalty.
In May 2022, Malik, who has been convicted in connection with a 2017 terror funding case, was sentenced to life by a special NIA court here. Special Judge Praveen Singh had pronounced the verdict under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act which will be concurrent and will run till life.
The quantum of punishment for the offences in the terror funding case, was pronounced last year amid tight security at the Patiala House Courts. During the course of the hearing in the trial court last year, Malik had said: "I will not beg for anything. The case is before this court and I leave it to the court to decide it."
"If I have been involved in any terrorist activity or violence in 28 years, if Indian Intelligence proves this, then I will also retire from politics. I will accept the hanging... with seven Prime Ministers, I have worked," he had told the court. The NIA told the court during the hearing that the accused is responsible for the Kashmiri Pandits' exodus from the Valley. The probe agency had also argued for the death sentence for Malik. On the other hand, the amicus curiae had sought life imprisonment as a minimum punishment in the case. Malik had pleaded guilty in the matter earlier. In the previous hearing, he told the court that he was not contesting the charges levelled against him, including section 16 (terrorist cct), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being member of a terrorist gang or organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
NO ALLIANCE WHEN IDEOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES EXIST, SAYS SIDHU ON AAP
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in violence-hit Manipur on Monday night where he is expected stay for three-four days and hold meetings with all the stakeholders to finalise strategies to curb the ethnic violence that has ravaged the northeastern state since May 3.
Top officials in Imphal said that Shah might visit some mixed populated districts, including those along the Myanmar border. Immediately after his arrival, Shah held a meeting with the council of ministers headed by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and discussed the
The curfew, which was imposed after the ethnic violence first broke out on May 3 in 11 of the 16 districts, continues to remain in place, including in Imphal East and Imphal West.
Meanwhile, the Army, Central paramilitary forces, Manipur Police commandos, and the Rapid Action Force continued combing operations in the Imphal valley and surrounding districts on Monday, an official said. Around 140 columns of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, comprising around 10,000 troopers, had to be deployed to curb the ethnic violence and bring back normalcy in the northeastern state.
WILL REPEAT KARNATAKA IN MP, WIN 150 SEATS: RAHUL GANDHI
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that the party is going to repeat what it did in Karnataka and the party will win 150 seats in Madhya Pradesh elections this year.
His remarks came after a meeting on Madhya Pradesh which was chaired by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Rahul Gandhi, party general secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, Arun Yadav, J.P. Agarwal among several others. Speaking to media, Rahul Gandhi said, "Had a detailed and long discussion on Madhya Pradesh with the party leaders. Our assessment is that we won 135 seats in Karnataka and we are going to win 150 seats in Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, we will repeat Karnataka and will win 150 seats." Meanwhile, Agarwal, who is the in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, said that all the leaders decided to contest the assembly polls unitedly. He said that the leaders had a detailed discussion with the party leaders in regard to poll preparedness to defeat the ruling BJP in the state. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that the party will announce several schemes like Karnataka and they have already started declaring such schemes. Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled later this year.
AKALI DAL QUESTIONS CM FOR NOT TAKING UP DISCRIMINATION AGAINST PUNJAB
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to explain why he was not taking up a single case of discrimination against Punjab during his ongoing "Bharat Yatra" with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In a statement here, senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that Mann had visited various states and met his counterparts and prominent political leaders to solicit their support against the ordinance promulgated by the Central government to make the Lt Governor of Delhi the final authority on postings and transfers, but had failed to raise injustices done to Punjab. Asking the Chief Minister to explain his silence to Punjabis, Cheema said "never in the history of Punjab has the state witnessed a Chief Minister who has become completely subservient to the wishes of another state to the extent that he does not use even available forums to demand justice for his state".
Asserting that Chandigarh was also a Union Territory like Delhi, Cheema said "Bhagwant Mann has not spoken out against the repeated manner in which the Centre had diluted Punjab's claim over Chandigarh. This includes not maintaining the 60:40 ratio in postings of Punjab and Haryana officers respectively in the UT, creation of UT cadre which has robbed Punjab officials of posts in both the civil and police departments, allocation of central pay scales to Chandigarh employees and doing away with Punjabi in all official functioning".
NEPAL, INDIA PLAN TO INK DEALS DURING PM'S VISIT
During Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's upcoming trip to India, the two neighbouring countries are planning to sign a series of agreements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu said on Saturday. According to the Ministry, Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, will embark on a four-day trip on May 31. This is his first official foreign visit since assuming office in December last year. In a statement, the Ministry said Dahal's visit is on the invitation of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. Prachanda will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal and various other dignitaries and high-ranking officers. After delegation-level talks between Prachanda and Modi on June 1, a series of agreements and memorandums of understan ding will be signed, according to Nepali officials. During the visit, the Nepali side will seek an air entry route via Indian territory for the utilization of its two newly built international airports in Pokhara and Bhairawha, said Haribol Gajurel, the chief political adviser to Prachanda.
Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday said that there cannot be an alliance where there are ideological differences, even as the Punjab leadership met party chief Mallikarjun Kharge here to discuss the support over ordinance to the AAP. The meeting was attended by former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Amrinder Raja Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Partap Singh Bajwa, Harish Chaudhary, Sidhu and several others. After the meeting, Sidhu, when asked about the alliance with AAP in the state for 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in a cryptic reply said, "An alliance cannot be formed if there are ideological differences." "And I am clear about it as my fight is for the truth and I am following this and I do not compromise on moral values. Moral values are at the lowest ebb because democratic values have been dismantled," Sidhu said. Meanwhile, several other party leaders said that whatever they have to tell on the issue they have conveyed to the party leadership and that cannot be disclosed in public.

DELHI HC ISSUES NOTICE TO YASIN MALIK OVER NIA'S PLEA SEEKING DEATH
WILL FIGHT RAJASTHAN ELECTIONS UNITEDLY, BOTH GEHLOT, PILOT HAVE AGREED, SAYS CONGRESS AFTER KEY MEET
The Congress party on Monday announced that it will fight the Rajasthan assembly elections unitedly as both CM Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot have agreed to the proposal. The statement was made by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal after a key party meeting attended by Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Gehlot and Pilot in Delhi.
Earlier today, Gehlot met Kharge at his residence at around 6 pm, a few minutes after which Gandhi also joined them. The Congress chief and Gandhi held deliberations with Gehlot for about half an hour, after which the party's in-charge for Rajasthan Sukhjinder Randhawa was called in. Pilot, who has been attacking the Gehlot government over the issue of inaction on corruption during the previous BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje, joined the meeting after two hours at Kharge's residence. This is the first time after a long gap that the Rajasthan CM and his former deputy are meeting face-to-face in the presence of top party leadership.
AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and party leader from Rajasthan Jitendra Singh were also present at the meeting.
Kharge likely to mediate tussle
Kharge and Gandhi are holding parleys with leaders of poll-bound states in order to evolve the party strategy for the assembly elections to corner the BJP in these states. The party leadership is also working hard to resolve the infighting in the Rajasthan unit ahead of assembly polls and set at rest the differences between the two leaders. The Congress brass has already held discussions with top leaders from Madhya Pradesh in the morning, after which Gandhi said the party would win 150 seats in the state. Earlier, Gehlot said the party's high command is strong and it will
never offer any position to any leader or worker to pacify him. The meeting comes close on the heels of Pilot's "ultimatum" that if three demands he made from the state government were not met by the end of this month, he would launch a state-wide agitation. Pilot has asked for a high-level inquiry into the alleged scams that took place during the tenure of the former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje government, as one of his demands.
What Gehlot said
Speaking to reporters earlier, Gehlot said there is no such tradition in the party to offer posts to any leader in order to pacify him. "As far as I know, there is no such tradition in the Congress where any leader demands something and the party high command offers to give that position. We have not heard of such a formula ever," he said when asked about reports of a formula being worked out to rope in Pilot. Rubbishing such reports, he said it is only the creation of the media and some leaders may be getting such stories planted. "Never has such a thing happened in the Congress so far and neither will it happen in the future. The Congress party and the high command are very strong and no leader or worker has the courage to demand any position. It does not happen like that," the chief minister asserted.
Gehlot and Pilot have been engaged in a power tussle since the Congress formed government in the state in 2018. In 2020, Pilot led a failed revolt against the Gehlot government after which he was removed from the posts of the party's state unit president and deputy chief minister.
Pilot had last month defied a warning from the party and went ahead with a day-long fast targeting Gehlot over his "inaction" on alleged corruption during the previous Raje government.
HIGH COURT DENIES BAIL TO AAP LEADER MANISH SISODIA
The Delhi High Court dismissed the bail plea of AAP leader Manish Siosdia in a CBI case related to the alleged corruption in the liquor policy scam in the national capital calling him an influential man and the allegations against him 'very serious' in nature. The bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma denied bail to Sisodia and said that the applicant (Sisodia) being a powerful person, there is the possibility of him influencing the witnesses.
During arguments, the CBI had opposed the bail plea moved by Manish Sisodia and stated, "The applicant (Sisodia) enjoys close nexus with the executive, offices and bureaucrats and his influence and clout is evident. His party colleagues holding high ranks continue to make factually wrong claims in order to influence the investigation and also claiming the applicant to be a victim of a political vendetta."
A perusal of the said statements by this political leader (s) during the press conferences would reveal how the entire efforts of not only the Applicant but his party colleagues as a whole are to shield the accused, stated CBI in its reply opposing bail plea of Sisodia, CBI said. The statements also undermine the authority of the Special Judge (CBI), having already taken cognizance of the offences, and are being made to adversely impact the investigation by levelling unwarranted and unsubstantiated allegations against the CBI, thereby influencing and deterring the witnesses of the case said the CBI. CBI in its reply filed in Delhi High Court stated that any release of the Applicant on bail shall gravely prejudice the investigation herein, more specifically when the Applicant fails to meet the 'triple test' for bail. While personal liberty is paramount, the same is not absolute but subject to reasonable restrictions, including the interest of the state and the public. During the arguements earlier, Manish Sisodia through Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan submitted that the Central Bureau of
Investigation has no evidence to show his involvement in the alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Government. The lawyer submitted that every accused in the CBI case has been released on bail except Sisodia.
Sisodia was arrested on February 26, 2023, more than 6 months after the Registration of FIR in the matter. And during the entirety of said investigation of 6 months before the arrest of the applicant, there was not a single that Applicant extended any threat to any witness. Sisodia in his bail stated that the possibility of a threat to witness cannot be said to arise without there being any material or antecedents of the Applicant. The witnesses in this case against the applicant are primarily civil servants, over whom the Applicant exercises no control, especially now since he has resigned from his official post.
SIDHU MOOSEWALA DEATH ANNIVERSARY; MOTHER PAYS EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE
The mother of famed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead by a group of shooters close to his ancestral village in Punjab on this day last year, was in tears on Monday on reaching the place where he was cremated. His fiancee Amandeep Kaur pledged to never get married. In the morning, his mother Charan Kaur took part in a special prayer ceremony at Jawahar Ke village of Mansa district, attended by hundreds of the singer's followers, sympathizers and friends at the place where he was cremated and a memorial statue was raised.
Prayers were held at Jawahar Ke village of Mansa district on Sunday to commemorate the first death anniversary of Punjabi singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead by a group of assailants at the village on May 29 last year.
A day before the death anniversary, mother Charan Kaur went down on her knees, bowed and touched the ground where her son was shot dead.
"Till the killers and conspirators of Sidhu Moosewala's murder get punishment, our fight for justice will continue. His murder is a part of a big conspiracy," an emotional Charan Kaur told the media.
The singer's father Balkaur Singh is currently in Britain.
"A real honour to meet Balkaur Singh, father of the late icon Sidhu Moosewala. @SkyNews will be doing a special report on Sidhu death -- one year on. It will be airing on Monday 29 May," tweeted Preet Kaur Gill, the Labour (Co-op) MP for Birmingham.
Mosewala's fiancee Amandeep Kaur is the daughter of a prominent leader of the Akali Dal. After Moosewala's death, she swore to never marry. She reportedly moved with Moosewala's parents in their native village. In several occasions, Moosewala's parents launched an attack on the Punjab government, alleging that the masterminds behind his son's murder are still at large.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29, 2022.
Punjab-origin Satinderjit Singh Brar, nicknamed Goldy Brar, the alleged mastermind in the killing of Moosewala and an affiliate of the Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, has been listed among Canada's 25 most wanted fugitives in the country. Wanted by Royal Canadian Mounted Police for murder, Brar's name figured in the 'Bolo (Be On the Lookout) Program' in an updated list released on May 2. He had allegedly claimed responsibility for the murder of Moosewala and has been on the run since then. He belongs to Punjab's Muktsar.
As per Interpol, Goldy Brar (29) is facing murder, criminal conspiracy and supply of illegal firearms.
Already a Red Corner notice, which allows the arrest of a fugitive, has been issued against him.
Punjab Police have blamed Goldy Brar and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for the killing of Moosewala.
Goldy Brar, a member of the Bishnoi gang, has been named in the 1,850-page police charge sheet filed in a Mansa court on August 26 last year. It said Moosewala's killing was carried out in retaliation for the youth Akali leader Middukhera's murder.
The others who have been named in the charge sheet include jailed gangsters Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Manmohan Mohana, Deepak Tinu, Sandeep Kekda, Ankit Sirsa, Priyavrat Fauji, Sachin Bhiwani, Keshav, Kashish, Manpreet Manu and Jagroop Roopa.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by AntiGangster Task Force chief Pramod Ban is probing the killing of Moosewala. Ban has said Bishnoi, the main conspirator, confessed that the execution planning was hatched in August 2021 to avenge the murder of Middukhera.
In a major crackdown against anti-national elements and terror networks, State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Monday sealed around 20 shops in a shopping complex in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district. After receiving the orders from the DM, SIA took action against the property allegedly owned by the banned Jamaate-Islami worth crores. The occupant of this property and the general public is informed that this property has been put under restrictions. Moreover, SIA has identified more assets of banned Jamaat-e-Islami in district Kupwara of Jammu and Kashmir worth crores. "Today on 29.05.2023 in District Kupwara, property worth INR 03 crores (approximately) after being notified by DM Kupwara on the recommendation of SIA of J&K, has been barred with restrictions on usage and entry," read a statement.
"To choke the availability of funds for secessionist activities and to dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements & terror networks hostile to India's national security, sovereignty, integrity and unity, property belonging to and held by banned JeI at Kupwara has been notified by concerned District Magistrates in the exercise of the powers conferred under section 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 & Notification No. 14017/7/2019, dated 28February- 2019 of Union Ministry of Home Affairs," it further added.
'THINK OF DAMAGE TO IMAGE': SC SAYS CAN'T MALIGN JUDICIAL OFFICERS USING SOCIAL MEDIA
NEW DELHI, (IANS) The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that no one can malign judicial officers using social media, while refusing to entertain a plea against a Madhya Pradesh High Court order, sending a man to jail for 10 days for levelling corruption allegations on a district judge. A vacation bench headed by justice Bela M Trivedi observed that not getting a favourable order does not mean one would begin maligning a judicial officer. The bench, also comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, said the person should have thought twice before casting any aspersion on the judicial officer and there has to be a lesson for others. As the petitioner's counsel said the imprisonment was excessive and urged the court to show leniency in the matter, the bench orally observed: "He maligned the judicial officer. Think of the damage done to the judicial officer's image." The petitioner's counsel cited the liberty of his client and stressed that he has been in jail since May 27. The bench said it was not inclined to interfere in the matter and added that judges are "here to decide on law, not show mercy". The top court's order came on a plea filed by Krishna Kumar Raghuvanshi against the high court in a suo motu criminal contempt case initiated against him for making allegations of corruption against a district judge. The proceedings were initiated against the petitioner in response to a reference made by an Additional District Judge under Section 15(2) of the Contempt of Courts Act. The reference was based on Raghuvanshi's circulation of a letter maligning the court's image through WhatsApp.
SITARAM YECHURY SLAMS CENTRE'S ORDINANCE, EXTENDS SUPPORT TO AAP
NEW DELHI, (IANS) CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday met Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal over the issue of Centre's ordinance on control of services. During the meeting, the CPI(M) leader, who was accompanied by other party leaders, condemned the Modi government and extended his party's support to the AAP.
"I strongly oppose and condemn the Centre's Ordinance. This issue is not specific to any particular political party and can affect any non-BJP state. I appeal to all Opposition parties to criticise and oppose this ordinance and protect ourselves from the encroachment on the Constitution by the Modi government," AAP tweeted, quoting Yechury. Kejriwal expressed gratitude to all the leaders who supported him in the fight against the Centre. The Modi Government is acting like a dictator in Delhi and not allowing them to work, he added. "Today, senior leader Sitaram Yechury and other leaders of the CPI(M) met to discuss this issue. All the leaders believe that the Modi government is acting unjustly towards the people of Delhi. CPI(M) also organised a rally in support of the people of Delhi and will stand with them in Parliament as well. On behalf of the people of Delhi, I express heartfelt gratitude to Yechury and all the other leaders," Kejriwal tweeted.

A video of the incident is also doing the rounds on social media. In the video, Sahil, who is wearing a blue t-shirt, can be seen stabbing the girl. Around seven to eight bystanders are present, standing and observing as he stabs her.
A man wearing a dark red-coloured shirt attempts to intervene, but Sahil pushes him away. In the video, Sahil continues to stab the girl while also issuing threats to the bystanders, causing them to disperse. After stabbing her, Sahil proceeds to kick the girl multiple times and then strikes her with a boulder five times. He then briefly leaves the scene but returns shortly after. He strikes the girl with the boulder once again, kicks her multiple times, and then finally departs, as per the video.
The police official said that the victim was in a relationship with Sahil but they recently had an argument.
"The deceased was on her way to attend the birthday of her friend's son when Sahil intercepted her and brutally killed her. A case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered on the complaint of the victim's father," the official added.

RAHUL GANDHI'S TALK SHOW AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY, CHAT WITH TECHNOCRATS ON MAY 31
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled to leave for the US on May 28, will hold a chat programme in California and a talk programme at the Stanford Graduate School of Business on May 31, a party source said.
The source, while sharing the details of Gandhi's US trip, said that the Congress leader will participate in a programme titled 'AI and Human Development: A chat with Rahul Gandhi' at 10 a.m. on May 31 and another chat programme titled 'The New Global Equilibrium: Talk by Rahul Gandhi' at 5 p.m. on the same day.
The 'AI and Human Development' programme is organised at Sunnyvale in California in which several technocrats and scientists will hold a freewheeling discussion with the Congress leader on future technologies. The second chat programme will be organised at the CEMEX Auditorium in Stanford Graduate School of Business.
The Congress leader will also attend a 'Mohabbat Ki Dukan' programme in California on May 30.
During his five-month and 3,900 km long 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, Gandhi was seen saying "Nafarat ke bazar me, Mohabbat ki dukan khol raha hu" (In the market of hatred, I am opening a
shop of love) to connect with the masses.
According to the source, Gandhi will also participate in an NRI meet in San Francisco.
The source said that Gandhi will also address an NRI's meet in New York on June 4.
Earlier this year, the Congress leader had visited the UK and participated in several programmes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the US in June. In a statement last week, the White House had announced that US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host Prime Minister Modi for an official state visit on June 22.
Earlier on Wednesday, former Union Minister and BJP veteran Subramanian Swamy opposed Gandhi's application before a Delhi court seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in order to get a fresh "ordinary passport".
Gandhi on Tuesday moved the court seeking an NOC in order to get a fresh "ordinary passport" after he surrendered his diplomatic travel document upon his disqualification as an MP.
The court has posted the matter for hearing next on May 26.
'9 SAAL 9 SAWAAL': CONGRESS RAISES QUESTIONS AS MODI GOVT COMPLETES 9 YRS
The Congress on Friday asked nine questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his government completing nine years in power on May 30. The party released the document titled '9 saal 9 sawaal', listing the queries on various subjects including economy, corruption, China border row, Covid management and social justice.
"Modi became Prime Minister nine years ago. We are asking nine questions to the Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi had raised these nine questions to Modi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. As he didn't answer a single question, we are forced to raise these nine questions again and we want the PM to break his silence," said Congress General secretary communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Ramesh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, said that the first question is related to the economy. "We all know that people are hurt by inflation, wrong implementation of GST, first and second demonetisation. So, we want to ask the Prime Minister why is it that inflation and unemployment is rising and why the rich are growing richer and poor are becoming more poor and why the PSUs are being sold," he asked.
Highlighting the issues of farmers and agriculture, Ramesh said, "Why is it so that in the last nine years, the income of farmers has not doubled and even while withdrawing the three farm laws, the promise of implementing MSP has not been fulfilled which were made to protesting farmers and its unions." Ramesh also targeted the government over the issue of corruption and cronyism and said, "Why are you putting people's hard-earned savings in LIC and SBI at risk to benefit your friend Adani? Why are you letting thieves escape? Why are you silent on rampant corruption in BJP-ruled states, and why are you letting Indians suffer?"
The Congress leader also targetted the government over the border row with China and national security and said, "Why is it that even after your clean chit to China in 2020, they continue to occupy Indian territory? 18 meetings have been held with China, yet why do they refuse to yield Indian territory and instead continue with their aggressive tactics?"
Ramesh said that the Prime Minister giving clean chit to China in June 2020 has damaged India's position. He also slammed the government over disruption in social harmony and asked, "Why are you deliberately
using the politics of hatred for electoral gains and fuelling an atmosphere of fear in society?" Firing sixth salvo at the government, he said, "Why is it that your oppressive government is methodically destroying the foundations of social justice? "Why are you silent on the atrocities against women, Dalits, SC, ST, OBCs and minorities? Why are you ignoring the demand for a caste census, despite demands from Congress and several other opposition parties," the Congress leader said. On the issue of democracy and federalism, Ramesh said, "Why has it weakened the Constitutional values and democratic institutions in the last nine years?" "Why are you practicing the politics of revenge against Opposition parties and leaders? And why are you using blatant money power to destabilise governments elected by the people?" he asked. Ramesh said that all institutions have been devalued, all investigation agencies have been misused, and there is a consistent effort to confront the judiciary. He also questioned the cut in the budget of welfare schemes and said, "Why is it that schemes for the welfare of the poor, needy and tribals are being weakened by cutting their budgets and making restrictive rules?" The Congress also highlighted the mismanagement during the Covid pandemic and said, "Why is it that despite the tragic deaths of over 40 lakh people due to Covid-19, the Modi government has refused to compensate their families? Why did it suddenly impose a lockdown which forced lakhs of workers to return home, and not provide any support."
'SENGOL IS PRIDE OF TAMIL NADU': THIRUVAVUDUTHURAI ADHEENAM MATH PONTIFF
Expressing displeasure over the Congress' stance on Sengol -- the sceptre that will be placed in the new Parliament building in the national capital, the pontiff of a Tamil Nadu 'math' on Friday said "this is the same Sengol which was given in 1947 to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and it is the pride of Tamil Nadu".
Earlier, on Friday, the Congress hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for spreading "false narrative" about "Sengol", saying that there is no documented evidence of Lord Mountbatten, C. Rajagopalachari and Jawaharlal Nehru describing this "as the symbol of transfer of British power to India" and all claims to this effect are plain and simply "bogus".
Speaking to reporters, the pontiff of Thiruvavuduthurai Adheenam (math), said: "We are disappointed by the lies that are being spread by some people. This is a great pride for Tamil Nadu. The Sengol went from Thiruvavuduthurai Adheenam, from Chola Nadu.
"On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive the Sengol once again. It will be installed in the new parliament building. We are happy. We have been invited to Delhi, and we will be going there," he said.
The Thiruvavuduthurai Adheenam pontiff further said the same Sengol was kept hidden for many years.
"Now, it is being brought back to the limelight. We were informed 1-2 months ago about the inauguration of the new Parliament. They asked us to come and told us that Sengol would be installed," he said.
"Sengol was given to the late PM Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 by the Adheenam. Rajaji (C Rajagopalachari) was asked how to symbolise freedom and India's Independence. At that time, our chief pontiff had asked Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers to make the Sengol," the Thiruvavuduthurai Adheenam pontiff said.
"The Sengol was sent in a flight to Delhi and it was given to Lord Mountbatten. It was later handed over to then PM Nehru by Adheenam pontiffs," he added. "We have pictures to show how the Sengol was handed over. Some people are spreading wrong information. In 1947, many English newspapers reported about it. The pictures are enough for evidence," he said.
Three out of every five Indians are of the opinion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been successful in projecting India as a global power over the last nine years.
This was revealed during an exclusive pan-India survey conducted by CVoter to mark nine years of the NDA regime headed by Modi. Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister on May 26, 2014 after leading the BJP to a historic majority of its own in the Lok Sabha elections. Since then, Prime Minister Modi has continuously and aggressively promoted the interests of India in scores of bilateral and multilateral meetings with leaders of other countries. The impact of this outreach has been so significant that 50 per cent of Indians who vote for the opposition also agree with the contention. This is rare because supporters of opposition parties have usually given a thumb down to the Modi regime on various issues not just in this survey, but many others conducted by CVoter over the years. The only category of Indians who think Modi has failed to project India as a global power in the last one years is Muslims; close to 56 per cent of them are of the opinion he has failed.
Apart from that, a big majority of Indians across demographics and ethnic identities are of the opinion that Modi has been successful in projecting India as a global power.
One of the more interesting findings of the survey is that more rural Indians (61.4 per cent) agree with the contention than their urban counterparts (58.3 per cent). From his first visit as Prime Minister to the US in August 2014, Modi has maintained an extremely hectic schedule of diplomatic engagements.

"Pertinent to mention here that many cases are registered against these persons for their involvement in anti-national activities. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their ways," police said.
"Consistent actions of Police against the criminals should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to treat anti-national elements in accordance to law."
HIZBUL TERROR ASSOCIATE ARRESTED FROM J&K'S KISHTWAR
An active associate of terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, army and CRPF from Cherji in Kishtwar district, police said on Friday.
Police said that police in Kishtwar received inputs about involvement of Mohd Yousaf Chouhan, resident of Chhar Cherji, Kishtwar in terror related activities and a case was registered accordingly. Subsequently, SSP, Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal deputed teams of police, along with army and CRPF, arrested the accused and, on his disclosu re, recovered a Chinese grenade from Cherji area. AAP TRYING TO MUZZLE VOICE OF MEDIA IN PUNJAB: SUKHBIR BADAL
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal on Friday accused the AAP government in Punjab of trying to muzzle the voice of media ever since it assumed power.
"The government has registered false cases against journalists besides banning web channels and even stopping advertisements to publications which refused to relay its propaganda," he said.
"It has also proceeded against artists, academicians and intellectuals. The SAD will do its utmost to guard the freedom of the press and democratic values and warns the AAP government not to trample upon civil rights in this manner."
Reacting to summoning of Managing Editor of the Ajit newspaper, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, Badal said the act of summoning of Hamdard by the state Vigilance Bureau was a "brazen act of a power drunk Chief Minister who wanted to exact revenge against the him for his principled stand on freedom of the press".
In a statement here, the SAD President expressed solidarity with Hamdard and said the Akali Dal would do its utmost to defend the voice of the media in Punjab.
Asserting that the intimidation of Hamdard had shocked Punjabis worldwide, Badal said the Chief Minister first stopped advertisements to the Ajit newspaper. "Then it started intimidating functionaries of the Ajit and now it has stooped down to persecuting its Managing Director. This is the height of vendetta politics and is totally unacceptable in a democracy."

COCAINE DETECTED IN IMRAN KHAN'S URINE SAMPLES, CLAIMS HEALTH MINISTER
Pakistan's Minister for National Health Services, Abdul Qadir Patel, claimed on Friday that alcohol and cocaine were detected in the urine samples of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, which were taken after his arrest on May 9 by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), media reports said.
"On May 9, Imran Khan Niazi was presented before the medical board for examination. When he was taken into custody by the NAB, he was in an intoxicated state," Qadir claimed at a press conference here, The Express Tribune reported.
The medical board, according to Patel, found Khan to be a "habitual user of illegal substances" as evidence of the presence of alcohol and cocaine in his urine samples was found, the report said.
Qadir also said the board has come to the conclusion that the PTI chief was under severe psychological pressure.
Qadir also distributed Khan's medical report to the journalists during the press conference which stated: "The gentleman [Imran Khan] was examined and appears under stress with anxiety symptoms. There was extensive anger/anxiety about the events happening in the last few weeks. He had little insight into the seriousness and reality of the current situation. The mental stability is questionable. There were some inappropriate gestures." "If the Supreme Court deems Imran Khan mentally unstable, we will accept the court's decision," Qadir added. He even suggested
keeping the PTI chief in Giddu Bandar Mental Hospital in Hyderabad "as a guest". The Health Minister said that after the attack in November 2022, Khan's leg was hit by bullet fragments, and he plastered it, saying it was a fracture. But there is no mention of a fracture in his leg in his medical reports, he claimed, The Express Tribune reported. He also asked which plaster in the world remains on the leg for six months.
Qadir said that doctors who recommended Khan to wear plaster cast for a period of six months will also be summoned.
"Who wears plaster for a bullet wound," he asked.
RUSSIA PUTS US SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM ON WANTED LIST
The Russian Interior Ministry on Monday added US Senator Lindsey Graham on the wanted list after criminal proceedings were ordered against the South Carolina Republican for his "Russophobic remarks".
"Lindsey Olin Graham, an American citizen, born on July 9, 1955, is wanted under an article of the Russian Criminal Code," the state-run TASS News Agency quoted the Investigative Committee as saying. The criminal proceedings against the Senator was ordered the Committee's chief Alexander Bastrykin.
During a visit to Kiev on May 26, Graham told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that "Russians are dying" in the war, adding that the US support for Ukraine is the "best money we've ever spent".
In a sharp rebuke to the statement, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Senator's remarks were "an embarrassment for the US".
F-16S TO UKRAINE WOULD BE 'UNACCEPTABLE ESCALATION', WARNS RUSSIA
Charging the US and its allies with "playing with fire" by increasing support for Ukraine amid the conflict with Moscow, including planning to provide it US-made F-16s, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the delivery of the fighters would be an "unacceptable esclation"."Of course, it's an unacceptable escalation... I think there are reasonable people in the West who understand this. But everything is being dictated by Washington, London, and their satellites inside the EU," he said on potential deliveries of American-made warplanes to Ukraine in an interview with Russia 1 TV on Sunday, RT reported. According to Lavrov, it is Poland and the Baltic States - Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia - that are "executing on the ground the aim set by the US to weaken Russia, deliver it a strategic defeat". Some in the West "are already discussing 'decolonisation' of Russia, meaning the dismembering of our country," Lavrov said, warning that "this is playing with fire. There can be no doubts about that". "I hope reasonable people will step away from unconditional support for the neoNazi regime that the West itself created," he added. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been pressing his Western backers for F-16 warplanes for months, arguing they are crucial for defending Ukrainian airspace amid Russia's missile
attacks on military facilities and energy infrastructure. At the G20 summit last week, US President Biden Joe Biden said that Washington would support efforts by the UK, the Netherlands, and other European countries to train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16s. White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated at the event that the US "will work with our allies to determine when planes will be delivered, who will be delivering them, and how many". Several outlets reported that the jets will not be provided by the US, but that the Biden administration would instead allow its allies to transfer their F-16s to Kiev.
RUSSIAN MISSILES HIT UKRAINE'S CAPITAL KYIV: REPORT
Russian missiles have hit Ukraine's capital, Kiev, following two nights of heavy drone strikes, the media reported. They were all reportedly shot down and there are no reports of casualties, the BBC reported. Flaming debris from the intercepted missiles landed in residential areas in central Kiev.
Russia has launched 16 air attacks on the Ukrainian capital this month. The latest, however, was unusual because it took place during the day -- and seemed to be targeted at the city centre, the BBC reported. All other air assaults on the capital so far in May have taken place at night and appeared to be directed at critical national infrastructure and air defences on the outskirts.
ERDOGAN CLAIMS VICTORY IN TURKISH ELECTIONS, CONGRATULATIONS POUR IN
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in the lead in Sunday's run-off presidential election, as per early leads, and has claimed victory, media reports said. Officials said with more than half of ballot boxes counted, Erdogan had secured around 53 per cent of the vote, while his rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, had 47 per cent, the BBC reported. Addressing supporters outside his AK Party headquarters here, Erdogan, who was on top of campaign bus, began by singing to the crowd. Thanking voters, he said they had given him responsibility to rule Turkey for another five years. Traffic was at a complete sta ndstill amid the celebratory atmosphere as car drivers sounded their horns and flashed their lights while others hung out of vehicles waving Turkish flags.
TRUMP LIKELY TO BE INDICTED ON CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS HOARDING ISSUE
Former US President Donald Trump is likely to be indicted latest by August this year as his lawyers expect him to be charged criminally by the Department of Justice in hoarding of highly classified documents at the end of his presidency.
"You should expected to be indicted by this year (likely in August)", some of his top advisors and legal team have given him fearlessly this rather unwelcome advice, media reports said.
The FBI has been investigating whether or not Trump tried to obstruct its investigation prior to last year's raids on the ex-president's Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago. Trumps legal team warning follows his indictment by local prosecutors in lower Manhattan courts in New York in April for alleged falsification of business records. Before summer ends, the Fulton County, Georgia, court is expected to decide whether or not to indict Trump on election fraud charges. He was accused of interfering in the election process when his aides entered the election booths in the county.
Trump's attorneys have asked him to prepare for another long drawn legal tussle. Trump has reportedly reacted angrily as his manner rubbishing these predictions saying then "what about Joe Biden?" (A small number of classified documents have been discovered at a number of locations connected to Biden, including his garage; the Department of Justice has named a second special counsel to look into the matter, per latest developments). As Trump has announced his candidacy for presidency in 2024, he is yet to be approved at the GOP primaries, some in the conservative circles are reportedly bracing for a distinct possibility of Trump, the current front runner among the republicans, will face indictment across a range of investigations. The indictments range from the Georgia probe into election interference to the Mar-a-Lago documents probe.
RON DESANTIS' 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID ANNOUNCEMENT PLAGUED BY TECHNICAL GLITCH
Ending months of speculation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis finally launched his bid for the 2024 US presidential election on Twitter, but the livestream event was delayed following a technical glitch. Wednesday's livestream event was held on Twitter Spaces and hosted by the platform's outgoing CEO Elon Musk and David Sacks -- a tech entrepreneur and major political donor who contributed just over $70,000 to the 44-year-old Republican Governor's political committee in 2021.
Twitter Spaces is a platform that allows "creators" to host live audio conversations that other users can join and engage with. As more than 500,000 logged in on Wednesday to join the Governor declare his bid for the White House, the audio was cut out even before he could say a word, reports the BBC. Almost 20 minutes of glitches followed, before he could finally make his announcement.
"I am running for President of the United States to lead our great American comeback," DeSantis said, once the sound was stabilised. By the time his speech began in earnest, hundreds of thousands of Twitter users had left the platform.
DeSantis' team worked quickly to spin the technical stumbles, writing on Twitter that the announcement "broke the internet with so much excitement", and posting a link to the campaign website. His press secretary Bryan Griffin claimed the online event raised $1 million in an hour.
When the event was relaunched using Sacks' account, only around 250,000 users ultimately listened in, CNN reported.
In response to the development, Musk and Sacks admitted on Wednesday that the limited capacity of Twitter's servers played into the issues it faced getting the event underway.
"I think you broke the internet there," CNN quoted Sacks as saying when the event was relaunched.
They also added that Musk's following of more than 140 million users may have also contributed to the issue.
MAN ABOARD S.KOREAN FLIGHT DETAINED FOR OPENING PLANE DOOR
South Korean police on Friday detained a passenger on suspicion of pulling the door of an Asiana Airlines plane carrying 194 people, right before the aircraft landed at the Daegu International Airport, official said. After departing from Jeju Island, the plane was on its way to Daegu, 237 km southeast of Seoul, when the exit door suddenly opened, according to airport officials.
The plane shortly landed with the door open, Yonhap News Agency. The aircraft was about 250 metres above ground when the door opened, the officials said. None of the 194 people aboard fell out of the plane or were hurt, but 12 passengers showed symptoms of breathing difficulty and some of them were taken to a hospital, but none were in serious condition. According to the police, when the suspect tried to pull the lever of the door, flight attendants were not able to stop him because the plane was about to land. Police said he was not drunk at the time of detention, but remained tight-lipped about why he did so.
"It is difficult to have a normal conversation with him," a policen official said. "We will investigate the motive of the crime and punish him." Police said he was travelling alone.
According to witnesses, the suspect attempted to jump out after opening the door.

IMRAN KHAN SERVES DEFAMATION NOTICE TO PAK HEALTH MINISTER
ISLAMABAD, (IANS) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Tuesday served a defamation notice to Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel after the latter disclosed that "traces of alcohol and cocaine were found in the former premier's urine analysis," media reported. The legal notice, filed under the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, was served on account of the "dissemination and circulation of wrongful, baseless, false, misleading, erroneous, malicious and defamatory information" against Imran during the minister's press conference on May 26, Express Tribune reported. It claimed that through the Press conference, the minister "dishonestly?alleged" that Imran's medical tests showed traces of alcohol and cocaine in his urine sample and that the former premier's "mental stability" was "questionable" in addition to "some appropriate gesture". The notice questioned how "alcohol and cocaine consumption can be traced through a urine test". It continued that the medical report "failed to
mention" that Imran "incurred head injury on the day of his illegal arrest", and that "there are no details of a full trauma examination," Express Tribune reported. "The report emphasises a lot on mental state of our client (Imran Khan); however, no details of mental state examination have been provided," it stated.

RUSSIA BLAMES UKRAINE FOR DRONE ATTACKS ON MOSCOW
MOSCOW, (IANS) Russia has accused Ukraine of drone attack on Moscow on Tuesday morning, in which several buildings were hit, local media reported "The Kiev regime launched a terrorist attack with unmanned aerial vehicles on targets in the city of Moscow," Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The raid involved eight aircraft-type UAVs, all of which were hit; three drones that were suppressed by electronic warfare measures went out of control and deviated from their intended targets, the statement added, RT reported.
The remaining five drones were shot down by Pantsir-S air defence systems operating outside Moscow, according to the MOD.
The attack was first reported by the city's mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, who said on Tuesday morning that the drone raid resulted in several buildings in the Russian capital sustaining minor damage, with residents in the area temporarily evacuated. He noted that no one was seriously hurt, with only two people seeking medical assistance, RT reported.
Moscow was attacked this morning by suspected Ukrainian kamikaze drones just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin unleashed yet another volley of strikes on Kiev, Daily Mail reported.

Nushrratt Bharuccha, who has been on a promotional spree for her recent release Chatrapathi, got candid about the number game among the actresses in the industry. Talking to Indian Express, Nushrratt claimed that she doesn’t believe in fighting for the top slot. In addition, the actress said that she even understands what that actually means. Elaborating on this number game, the Sonu Ki Tittu Ki Sweety actress said that not wanting to fight for the top slot has cost her projects. So much so that she was rejected on the basis that she won’t look good on the poster. Nushrratt affirmed that one can’t sell a movie only through its poster value. “I have been told that aap poster pe acche nahi lagoge (You won’t look good on posters). PC PAID HER WAY OUT OF A MOVIE TO ESCAPE 'DEHUMANISING' DIRECTOR
LOS ANGELES, (IANS) Early into Priyanka Chopra Jonas' Bollywood career, the Indian-born actress paid back a film production after she backed out of filming within days, due to the "dehumaniSing" director on site, reports 'Variety'. In a recent interview with The Zoe Report, the actress explained how nearly two decades ago, as an actress new to the industry, she took money out of her own pocket to remove herself from a set with a degrading crew, adds 'Variety'.
Priyanka recalled in the interview that she portrayed a character who was going undercover, and how the unnamed director spoke about her and her appearance to the other crew members.
"I'm undercover, I'm seducing the guy -- obviously that's what girls do when they're undercover," Priyanka said, according to 'Variety'.
"But I'm seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing [at a time]. I wanted to layer up. The filmmaker was like, 'No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise why is anybody coming to watch this movie?'" Priyanka added.
"He didn't say it to me," Priyanka clarified. "He said it to the stylist in front of me. It was such a dehumanising moment."
Priyanka, adds 'Variety', noted how seriously she takes her craft, and how production teams have at times belittled and misconstrued her strong work ethic. "It was a feeling of, I'm nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important."
With guidance from her father, Priyanka decided to quit the project. After participating in just two days of work, she stood her ground and took money out of her pocket to pay the production back for what they had spent. "I just couldn't look at him every day," Priyana said.

ESHA GUPTA MAKES REVELATION ABOUT HER PLUNGING GOWN AT CANNES 2023: 'IT WAS A RISK'
Esha Gupta achieved yet another milestone in her career by stepping onto the illustrious stage of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Attending the film festival as part of the Indian government delegation, she graced the opening ceremony and attended the premiere of the festival's opening film, "Jeanne Du Barry," which is the long-awaited return of Johnny Depp to the silver screen. Esha grabbed eyeballs as she confidently walked the red carpet, adorned in a captivating soft pink gown that exuded both elegance and boldness. The gown, expertly crafted by designer Nicolas Jebran, showcased a daring thigh-high slit, extending almost to her waist, and a sheer neckline that added an alluring touch to her ensemble. Now, the talented actress has taken the opportunity to share her insights on her striking appearance. Speaking to News18, the actress said, "The response [to my outfit] has been really amazing. I didn’t expect that. I didn’t expect to be one of the best dressed and I had people calling me from all over the world – including my manager from LA and my stylist – and telling me that I look the best and that my look was so elegant." She added,
"It was a risk. When we were doing this Nicholas Jebran gown, we knew that it was sexy but it was also a conscious thought to make it look angelic. If you see the gown, it is white and has 3D flowers and its flowy [silhouette] make it dreamy. I’ve to give credit to my stylist, Victor Blanco." Esha further spoke about Victor choosing the outfit for her while she wanted something over the top. "He was the one who saw it a bout two weeks before Cannes and he told me, ‘Esha, this is the gown I see on you.’ And when I saw it in the video he sent me, I told him that it was nice but that we should look at something more because we, as Indians, are pretty used to being a little over the top and dramatic and have extra fabrics and trails and the whole jingbang. We love the loudness, we don’t like simplicity. That’s in our blood. I also like being over the top." The actress also spoke about her red carpet moment. "It was surreal. I was so nervous even though I had my team and Victor, who’s my person, with me. My stomach was upset. I wasn’t just representing ‘Esha Gupta’ but since I went with the official delegation, I was representing Indian cinema. I was stressed out and hoping that nothing goes wrong on the red carpet," she signs off.

JOGIRA SARA RA RA REVIEW: NAWAZUDDIN SIDDIQUI, NEHA SHARMA STARRER IS A SURPRISINGLY FRESH FILM
Small-town romances have their own charm and significance and Bollywood has consistently done its bit to make us have that emotional rumble, by striking the right chords. Ghalib Asad Bhopali’s Jogira Sara Ra Ra is one such story that not only tickles your funny bones but also appreciates the core essence of desi romantic comedies, allowing you to empathise with the characters who are relatable.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra may not be a glossy film, with an extravagant production, but there’s a comforting level of earthiness, with a lively screenplay and effortless acting by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma. The story is fun, light-hearted, laced with perfect comic timings, and would definitely itch you, wanting more.
The heart of the story revolves around Dimple (Neha Sharma) a young rebellious girl who seeks help from Jogi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) - a matchmaker to get rid of her wedding. However, they find themselves caught in a web of unexpected consequences. Despite Jogi helping her find a solution, social repercussions and potential harm to both Dimple and her family are too significant to disregard. All of these situations arise with a bunch of twists and turns which are hilarious, and keep the audience entertained throughout.
The entire film is well-paced and balanced in quickly establishing the plot of the story. It opens with Neha gatecrashing a wedding who eventually gets caught by Nawazuddin. Their paths cross again as she prepares for her own wedding. Right from plotting an accident to kidnapping and getting caught, the circumstances keep getting better or worse for the good.
Nawazuddin, who is otherwise known for his content-driven films and compelling roles, allowed us to embrace a completely different side of him in this film. He dances around, dons vibrant attires, falls in love, and fights the bad guys, with a teenager’s heart. It was a refreshing break to see him light up every frame in a completely different avatar. On the other hand, Neha Sharma is effortless and steps into Dimple’s shoes with much ease and poise. She moulds herself into the character flawlessly. I frankly feel, Bollywood and commercial films haven’t utilised her enough because she for sure
brings in a charm that does resonate with the younger audience. The on-screen chemistry between Nawazuddin and Neha is palpable, and they infuse every frame with warmth. They balance each other well and still perform brilliantly individually too. Another stellar performance in the film has to be of Sanjay Mishra’s. His on-screen energy and dialogue delivery is smooth, and his sarcasm lands safely. Zarina Wahab too brings in the right sense of credibility with her part. The writers have done a spectacular job of playing around with the characters.
Jogira Sara Ra Ra looked very relevant to its roots. The film beautifully captures the small-town charm, its people, and the kind of conversations and societal norms people submit to. The peppy music numbers are a delightful add-on.
All in all, Jogira Sara Ra Ra is a surprisingly fresh film. It has familyfriendly written all over it and has all the elements of a typical commercial Bollywood entertainer. It’s a one-time watch and can actually be enjoyed in a theatre without dreading the 2-hour run time. And indeed the film imparts a valuable message and one must always believe in it — finding a genuine connection and love happens in the most unexpected ways.
'SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR' TEASER ATTEMPTS TO REWRITE GANDHI'S ROLE IN HISTORY
MUMBAI, (IANS) The teaser of the upcoming film 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar', based on the life of V.D. Savarkar, was unveiled on Sunday on the occasion of freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue's 140th birth anniversary.
The film has been directed by actor Randeep Hooda, who has also co-written the film along with Utkarsh Naithani.
The teaser of the potentially contentious film starts with a voiceover from Randeep, saying the struggle for Independence stretched for more than 90 years but it would have been over had the people followed the path of an armed revolution. Few participated in the freedom struggle, the voiceover said; the rest just wanted to gain political mileage in the garb of the fight for independence, it claimed.
Launching the film's teaser, Hooda said: "Savarkar led an incredible life, and as I learned more about him while researching my film, I have come to admire him tremendously. So it gives me immense pleasure to share a sneak peek into our film on his 140th birth anniversary."
The teaser calls Savarkar "the most wanted Indian by the British", who not just inspired the armed revolution, but also inspired the likes of "Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose and Khudiram Bose".
Randeep goes on to say in the teaser that Mahatma Gandhi was not wrong, but had he not been stubborn on his principles of non-violence, India would have been independent 35 years earlier. Producer Anand Pandit added: "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar is a very prestigious project for us because of the incredible impact that Savarkar had on our nation's freedom struggle. His story, unfortunately, has not been told to us as a country and we hope our film will complete that lacuna. We present the film's first look and hope the audience comes back asking for more." This historical film, which is slated to be released this year, also marks the directorial debut of Randeep Hooda. He will also be seen on the screen in the title role.
'BHAGYA LAKSHMI' STAR ROHIT SUCHANTI SHARES HIS DREAM TO WORK WITH KIARA
NEW DELHI, (IANS) 'Bhagya Lakshmi' star Rohit Suchanti may have quite a formidable following, but he himself is a big fan of Kiara Advani, who he hopes to romance on the big screen one day. Having worked in the television industry for many years, Rohit has shared screen space with a lot of actresses, but he now aspires for no one less than Kiara. Moved by her acting skills and performances in recent projects, and the way she carries herself, Rohit has been overcome by the desire to be in the same frame as the Bollywood diva. Talking about Kiara, Rohit said: "I think I have never seen an actress become this versatile in such a short time. Be it any character, Kiara has nailed it and won everyone's heart with her performance. She always brings out the best in her roles and that is something that has always fascinated me." On Kiara's success story, Rohit added: "In such a short span of time, she has become the first choice of most of the directors in the industry. If I get the chance, it would be my great honour to share screen space with Kiara some day. I think we will look good on screen together."
ABHISHEK BACHCHAN HAS THIS ONE CONDITION FOR WORKING WITH DAD AMITABH BACHCHAN
STARRING: ROBERT DE NIRO, SEBASTIAN MANISCALCO, LESLIE BIBB DIRECTOR: LAURA TERRUSO RATING: 3.5/5
ABOUT MY FATHER REVIEW: ROBERT DE NIRO IS THE HEART AND SOUL OF THIS RELATABLE FAMILY WATCH
The first time I watched the trailer of About My Father, I could notice a few traits of my own father in Robert De Niro — quirky, protective and disapproved of anything that wasn’t listed in his playbook. Little did I know that I would get a full blown version of him on the screen with the film and it would make me want to immediately hug my dad. Released by Lionsgate, About My Father revolves around a father, Salvo (Robert De Niro) and his son Sebastian, played by Sebastian Maniscalco.
The film, said to be loosely based on Sebastian Maniscalco’s relationship with his father, puts the spotlight on an Italian father-son duo. While Salvo, an immigrant hairsylist living in Chicago and set in his own ways, his son Sebastian is trying to make it big in the hotel space. Sebastian is dating a rich American, played by Leslie Bibb, and intends on proposing to her during the 4th of July weekend. However, Salvo insists he will pass down the family’s traditional ring only if he feels that the family is fit for his son.
What follows is a series of unfortunate, hilarious events which not only pokes fun at fancy Americans but also Salvo’s eccentric behaviour, and tests his relationship with Sebastian. The crisp one and a half film keeps you engaged from the start to end. Sebastian Maniscalco,
who wrote the story, and director Laura Terruso pack in just the right amount of laughs and slip in doses of emotions, allowing you to connect with the relationship. It comes as no surprise that Robert De Niro is the heart and soul of the film. He owns the character like he has been Salvo for decades now. He outshines everyone in the movie, making Sebastian also weak in a few scenes. Sebastian ensures his comic presence doesn’t get lost in the storytelling but also doesn’t overdo it. Kim Cattrall perfectly blends with De Niro in intense scenes, their on-screen love-hate chemistry shines, making me want to see a little more of their banter. The Sex in the City star also has a strong screen presence, taking your attention away from David Rasche and Anders Holm with absolute ease. Brett Dier might be playing a role in the background but his scenes with De Niro leave you in splits. The climax did feel a little weak, as though Sebastian wasn’t sure how to draw an end to the well set movie so he decided to resort to cliches and wrap things up. You could notice the graph take a dip but it doesn’t take away the wholesome experience that the film offers so far. Bottom Line: About My Father makes for a relatable family watch. The makers hit the mark on the comedy front, sprinkling just enough emotions to tie things up.
Watching the megastar Amitabh Bachchan share the screen with his son Abhishek Bachchan is always delightful. The fatherson duo has worked together in many films and audiences are always excited to see them collaborating. Both have worked together on films Bunty Aur Babli, Ram Gopal Varma-directed Sarkar and Sarkar Raj, Karan Johar's relationship drama Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and filmmaker R Balki's Paa, which featured the veteran actor in the role of Abhishek's on screen son suffering from progeria. Now, Abhishek has revealed that one condition which decides the great collaboration. Abhishek told PTI, “As actors, we both enjoy working with each other. But as actors, we also understand the responsibility towards our audience. Since we have done such wonderful, memorable work together, we want to carry on doing that. So, we wait for the right script and as soon as that happens, we are happy to work together”. Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, the 46-year-old said that it is always an honour to work with his dad. He further says that working with his dad has been long pending the two haven't shared screen space after Paa in 2009, adding that he would love to do another film with him soon.

JADEJA'S LAST BALL FOUR HELPS CSK BEAT GUJARAT TITANS

5 WICKETS,
CLINCH RECORD-EQUALLING 5TH IPL TITLE
‘STAR ALL-ROUNDER RAVINDRA JADEJA HIT A SIX AND FOUR IN THE LAST TWO BALLS AS CHENNAI SUPER KINGS BEAT GUJARAT TITANS BY 5 WICKETS (VIA DLS METHOD) IN THE RAIN-AFFECTED RESCHEDULED FINAL OF THE 2023 SEASON TO CLINCH A RECORD-EQUALLING FIFTH INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE AT THE NARENDRA MODI STADIUM, HERE ON MONDAY NIGHT.
AHMEDABAD, (IANS) Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and four in the last two balls as Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets (via DLS method) in the rain-affected rescheduled final of the 2023 season to clinch a record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League title at the Narendra Modi Stadium, here on Monday night. With this thrilling win, the M.S. Dhoni-led CSK now have five trophies -- same as Mumbai Indians.
A sensational quick-fire fifty from Sai Sudharsan (96 off 41) along with Wriddhiman Saha's vital half-century (54 off 39) powered Gujarat Titans to 214/4 in 20 overs. Sudharsan looked flawless throughout his innings and played some breathtaking shots against an undisciplined bowling line-up. Apart from Sudharsan and Saha, the likes of Shubman Gill (39 off 20) and Hardik Pandya (21 off 12) also made vital contributions with the bat. Chasing a mammoth target, CSK scored
four runs in the first three balls of the innings with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway at the crease before rain intervened and stopped the play. When the play resumed at 12:10 IST (night) after a long delay due to a wet outfield, the revised target for CSK was to chase 171 runs in 15 overs. Both Conway and Gaikwad came with an attacking mindset and gave CSK a flying start. They played some beautiful shots and hammered Md Shami, Hardik Pandya and even Rashid Khan and took CSK to 52/0 in the revised four-over Powerplay. Gujarat Titans badly needed a wicket and left-armer spinner Noor Ahmed gave them the crucial breakthrough by removing Gaikwad (26 off 16). Not only Gaikwad, but the young Afghan spinner also got rid of dangerous-looking Conway to put CSK on the back foot.
Two new batters Impact Substitute Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane were at the crease and had a massive task ahead of them. As has
I DON'T MIND LOSING TO MS DHONI'HARDIK PANDYA REACTS AS CSK BEAT GT TO CLINCH FIFTH IPL TROPHY’
Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a heartbreaking last-ball defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) on Tuesday midnight (May 29). The reigning champions produced another impressive performance with both bat and ball but Chennai pulled off a thrilling last-ball win to clinch their fifth IPL trophy. Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya conceded the defeat and he revealed that he won't mind losing to MS Dhoni. Sai Sudharsan smashed 96 off 47 and Wriddhiman Saha scored fifty as Gujarat Titans posted a total of 214/4, the biggest in the IPL finals. But Chennai Super Kings were impressive with all batters contributing crucial knocks to chase the revised 171-run target in the most thrilling way. Dhoni failed to display his finishing skills but was impressive with his wicketkeeping skills.
Hardik praised the CSK captain during the post-match representation and said that destiny had all written it for the legendary wicketkeeper. GT skipper also added that God has been kind to him but gave Dhoni more in the final.
"I'm very happy for him [Dhoni]," Hardik said at the post-match presentation. "Destiny had this written for him. If I had to lose, I don't mind losing to him. I said last year that good things happen to good people. I think he is one of the nicest people I have met. God has been kind to me, but I think God gave him a little more today." Hardik also denied blaming rain or conditions for Gujarat's defeat despite posting a mammoth total. Hardik accepted that Chennai produced better cricket and deserved to win the final.
been the case with Rahane this season, he once again showed his class and played some exquisite strokes to give the much-needed impetus to CSK innings.
Though Dube was struggling to get his timing right, Rahane was in fine touch and took CSK to 112 for 2 in 10 overs. From there on, the match saw many ups and downs and eventually CSK needed 13 to win off the last over. Mohit Sharma bowled excellent yorkers and gave just three runs in the first four balls. But Jadeja had other plans and he hit a six and four in the last two balls to give CSK a thrilling win and record fifth title. Brief scores: Gujarat Titans 214/4 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 96, Wriddhiman Saha 54; Matheesha Pathirana 2-44) Chennai Super Kings 171/5 in 15 overs (revised target) (Devon Conway 47, Ajinkya Rahane 27, Shivam Dube 32 not out, Ravindra Jadeja 15 not out; Mohit Sharma 3-36, Noor Ahmad 2-17) by five wickets.

'CAN TOUCH MUD AND CONVERT IT INTO GOLD': FORMER INDIAN CRICKETER AFTER CSK CLINCH 5TH IPL TITLE
MS Dhoni and his Chennai Super Kings got their hands on their 5th Indian Premier League trophy as they defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the final clash. Dhoni's men chased down the revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs as Ravindra Jadeja staged a brilliant comeback on the final two deliveries. After the game former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has heaped praise on MS Dhoni and his Super Kings. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra stated that it was Titans players who bagged the awards but the winning trophy went to the Super Kings. He then hailed Dhoni for his magic. "Think about it, Shubman Gill - Orange Cap, the top three wicket-takers are from Gujarat - Mohammad Shami, Mohit Sharma and Rashid Khan. But see who has the trophy, it's Chennai Super Kings. That's the beauty of MS Dhoni and the Chennai franchise. He can touch mud and convert it into gold," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra then also put light on CSK's chase. Chennai needed 171 in the 15 overs after rain curtailed the chase. CSK needed a strong start and Chopra praised the openers. "When the chase began, it rained after three deliveries and there was a huge delay. The game was shortened to 15 overs. So, 171 runs in 15 overs was a 50-50 game for both the sides, but Ruturaj Gaikwad starts it, and then Devon Conway catches
up and how," he praised Gaikwad and Conway. Chopra then stated that Noor Ahmad brought GT back into the contest with his twin strike to send both the Chennai openers back. This brought a change in the momentum and CSK were under some pressure as Shivam Dube was not timing it well. But on the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane took charge as he 27 off 13 to bring CSK back.
"Was there a twist? No, it didn't because Ajinkya Rahane and along with him Shivam Dube were there. Dube's bat was not doing the talking but what a guy Ajinkya Rahane is. A flicked six, one straight down the ground and two fours off Rashid Khan's last two balls (of his second over)." Chopra said. He also praised Rayudu for finding crucial boundaries when pressure rolled back to Chennai. "Ambati Rayudu was playing his last game - but he went six, four, six. He has been absolutely rocketing. Then Mohit Sharma dismissed him and MS Dhoni off the next ball. Mohammad Shami was good in the 19th over," he said. "In the final over, Mohit Sharma executed excellent yorkers off the first four balls but 10 were required off the last two and they were scored. Ravindra Jadeja hits a straight six and then a four on the leg side and won them the match. This was something special," Chopra added on Mohit Sharma's final over.
KOHLI HAILS 'CHAMPION' JADEJA AFTER CSK'S THRILLING WIN
NEW DELHI, (IANS) Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli showered praise on Ravindra Jadeja for his exceptional all-round display after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged victorious against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in an exhilarating last-ball thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After CSK sealed the win to secure their fifth IPL title, Kohli shared an Instagram and labeled Jadeja a "champion" and expressed his admiration for captain MS Dhoni by leaving a heart emoji. "What a champion @ravindra.jadeja. Well done CSK, and a special mention to @mahi7781," Kohli wrote on his Instagram story.
Jadeja scored 10 runs from the last two balls of the run chase to help CSK become IPL 2023 champions.
Despite not contributing with the bat in the final against GT, Dhoni grabbed the headlines with his lightning-fast stumping, playing a crucial role in dismissing the in-form Shubman Gill.
MEN'S JR ASIA CUP 2023: INDIA READY FOR KOREA CHALLENGE IN SEMIS
NEW DELHI, (IANS) Following a resounding 17-0 victory over Thailand, the Indian Junior Men's Hockey Team advanced to the semifinals of the Men's Junior Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman. Subsequently, the Indian team qualified for the FIH Junior Hockey Men's World Cup 2023, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 5 to 16. India will now face Korea in the semifinal on Wednesday for a place in the summit clash.
Indian Men's Hockey Team Captain Uttam Singh discussed the upcoming game in a virtual press conference on Monday, saying, "We have a good atmosphere in the camp. One of our tournament goals was to qualify for the FIH Junior Hockey Men's World Cup 2023, which we accomplished. We are one of Asia's top teams, so it is essential that we perform well in the Junior Men's Asia Cup as well. We have done well so far, and will look to continue to do so in the Semi-Finals as well."
"When we prepare at camp, we never know which teams we will face at what stage. Hence, we always keep our plans and targets in mind and do our best to stick to them against any opposition," he added. India finished the Pool stage of the tournament unbeat en, winning their first game 18-0 against Chinese Taipei and following it up with a 3-1 win over Japan. Against traditional rivals Pakistan, India earned a thrilling 1-1 draw and then defeated Thailand 17-0 to top Pool A.
ISHAN KISHAN COULD PROVIDE X-FACTOR TO INDIA IN WTC FINAL, SAYS RICKY PONTING
NEW DELHI, (IANS) Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes India can go with Ishan Kishan as the wicket-keeping option at the World Test Championship (WTC) final as he can provide an 'Xfactor' to the team.
The India XI will be stacked with stars when they face Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final but Ponting has called for a keeper-batter to be handed a red-ball debut. Ishan has impressed in 41 white-ball internationals for India since 2021 whether batting at the top of the order or taking the gloves but is yet to play a Test. The 24-year-old proved he can turn a game on its head when smashing 210 runs from 131 balls with 10 sixes and 24 boundaries while opening for India in an ODI against Bangladesh last December. It is that sort of devastating display that Ponting believes could ultimately prove the difference between the evenlymatched teams set to contest the WTC final from June 7 at the Oval, London. "I'd pick Ishan Kishan If you want to be crowned the world champion, you have to win the game. Hence why there is a sixth day that has been added to try and give both teams the best chance of a result," Ponting said on The ICC Review.
"I'd be going with Ishan Kishan if I was them in this game. I think it just provides that little bit of X-factor that you might need when pushing for a win in a Test match," he added.
K.S. Bharat was preferred for the four Tests in the recent home series against Australia with Rishabh Pant unavailable after be ing involved in a motor vehicle accident in January.
The 29-year-old wicketkeeper, Bharat, is best suited to the red-ball format and looked comfortable when averaging 20.20 with th e bat against Australia on tricky wickets, but could still be overlooked for the winner-takes-all WTC Final.
"Obviously if Rishabh Pant is fit, he's playing and he provides that X-factor for India. But with him not being there, and this is no blight on Bharat whatsoever, I think Kishan just provides that little bit more X-factor.
"(Kishan) will do a good job with the gloves, but can provide that really high-scoring run rate that might be required in a one -off Test match to try and push for a win," Ponting said. The Australian also said that Hardik Pandya could have been India's X-factor had he been picked for the WTC Final. Pandya has not played a Test since 2018 and was quick to rule himself out of contention for the WTC Final after electing to sit out of the five-day format due to ongoing fitness concerns. But Ponting would have liked to see the proven match-winner talked into being part of the squad for the high-stakes clash at The Oval. "The other really interesting thing that I thought about the other day for India in this game is how valuable someone like Hardik Pandya could"be in a one-off Test match," Ponting said.
MS Dhoni’s eyes were shut and head was slightly bowed down when Ravindra Jadeja took guard to face the final ball of IPL 2023. The tens of thousands of fans had their smartphones out to capture the winning moment, for either team at the stage, and there was a slight delay as Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya had a chat with Mohit Sharma before the final ball of the tournament. The delay only increased the tension and it got very noisy when Mohit seemed ready to bowl. The noise soon turned into a roar when Jadeja helped the misdirected low full-toss to the ropes and sealed the win. Before the ball even reached the ropes, the left-hander was off on a celebratory dash to the dugout where his captain Dhoni stood near the boundary ropes. What followed next was a moment of pure joy and rare show of emotions by the CSK captain, with an injured left knee, as he lifted Jadeja and celebrated the nerve-wracking title win.
That 10-second moment showed what the title means to him, what winning still means to him and why success with this franchise will continue to occupy a special place in his heart. For donkey years, Dhoni has been in similar situations in the middle but this was different, this hit different and certainly felt different. There were tears of joy in the stands, emotions ran high in the CSK dugout and even Dhoni, the man known to hide his emotions, remain ice cool under pressure and not celebrate even the greatest of triumphs, was not able to hold back the joy which also felt like relief.
It was that kind of night and it has been that kind of season. A season which started at the Narendra Modi Stadium with capacity crowd chanting “Dhoni, Dhoni” has ended in similar fashion. The crowd which left the ice-man’s eyes watery in the season opener, left a lump in his throat on the final night.
Wherever he went, the yellow jerseys followed. Whenever he came out to bat, no matter how brief it was, the chants never stopped. From Chennai to New Delhi, the sea of yellow continued to storm the stands and the “love and affection” has now forced even Dhoni to do something for them.
“The easy thing would be for me to say “Thank you very much", but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL. A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it’s not easy for me but that’s a gift. The way they’ve shown their love and affection, I think that’s something I need to do for them,” a very emotional Dhoni said at the post-match presentation. The clock was about to touch 3 am but the crowd was not ready to leave, just like they stayed back in the rain on May 28 and returned in full force on the reserve day. “You do get emotional simply because it’s the last part of my career, it started over here and the first game when I walked down everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were full of water and I just stood there in the dugout for a while. I realised I want to enjoy this. It was the same thing in Chennai, it was my last game over there but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can,” added the CSK captain. If there was rain which kept everyone waiting on Sunday, the wet side strips, which absorbed a lot of water during the brief spell of drizzle at the mid-innings break, didn’t allow any cricket to resume. When the conditions finally became fit for play, match had been reduced to 15-overs-a-side contest but the fans weren’t complaining. Most of them came to Ahmedabad for Dhoni, stayed in the city for Dhoni and waited well past midnight to first see Dhoni bat and then see him lift the IPL trophy for the fifth time. Never before has an IPL final moved to a reserve day and ended nearly three hours later than the scheduled time. The game which was supposed to end on May 28 was first moved to May 29 and we finally got the winner in the early hours of May 30. By the time the media contingent was done with the presentation ceremony and post-match press-conferences, the clock was nearing 3:45 am but the stands weren’t completely empty yet. One last picture, one last video for that potentially viral reel and one last glimpse of their superstar. As he gently waved in front of the stands which had fans, Dhoni walked out of the park as IPL champion for the fifth time and left fans with a lot of memories. For most, the sight of Dhoni shutting his eyes in the second half of the final over will remain highlight of the season and the 42-year-old will continue to be toast of the nation.
JADEJA DEDICATES CSK'S FIFTH TITLE WIN TO DHONI
NEW DELHI, (IANS) After producing one of the most unforgettable finishes in the IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja dedicated their fifth IPL title to skipper MS Dhoni.
Jadeja provided a grandstand finish, hitting a six and a four with 10 needed off the last two balls, to power CSK to their fifth IPL title as they beat defending champions GT by five wickets (DLS Method) in a thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium, here on Monday. After the win, the all-rounder took to Twitter to express his joy and shared a photo with his wife Rivaba holding the trophy and Dhoni sitting next to them with a broad smile.
"We did it for ONE and ONLY "MS DHONI. mahi bhai aapke liye toh kuch bhi?(anything for you Mahi Bhai)" Jadeja wrote.
In the midst of the jubilant celebrations, an emotional Dhoni was captured joyfully lifting the all-rounder in a moment of delight. Speaking to the broadcasters after the match, Jadeja said: "I'm from Gujarat, and it's a special feeling. This crowd has been amazing. They were waiting for the rain to stop till late at night, I'd like to say a big congratulations to the CSK fans who came to support us. I'd like to dedicate this win to a special member of the CSK side, MS Dhoni."

CANADA HAS HIGHEST HOUSEHOLD DEBT LEVEL IN G7: CMHC DEPUTY CHIEF ECONOMIST ALED AB IORWERTH
With the highest level of debt among G7 countries, three quarters are mortgages
Economies around the world have had some rough years recently. From a global pandemic, a bout of inflation, a disruption in supply chains, coping with a European war and ongoing concern about global financial stability. The Canadian economy has weathered these storms as well, if not better than other economies. Unfortunately, Canada’s very high levels of household debt — and the highest in the G7 — makes the economy vulnerable to any global economic crisis. It's important to understand that not all debt is bad. It can be a valuable tool that allows households to purchase more costly items, such as cars and houses. It also enables people to carry things over if they have a temporary drop in income. The financial system has all sorts of products that make it easier for households to purchase items involving large-scale expenditures by distributing payments over time. Debt, however, comes with significant risks. The burden of servicing debt does not go away when people lose their jobs; the burden continues until the debt is paid off. This is a key problem when there are widespread job losses in the economy because of the global economic downturn and because of people’s inability to pay off their debts when they have no income. And when many households in an economy are heavily indebted, the situation can quickly deteriorate, such as what was witnessed in the U.S. in 2007 and 2008.
Canada’s increasing household debt burdens households with high interest rates Household debt in Canada has been rising inexorably. At the time of the
RAVISHING BEAUTIES
recession in 2008, it stood at about 80% of the size of the economy, in 2010 it rose to 95%, and by 2021 debt exceeded its size. By contrast, household debt in the U.S. fell from 100% of GDP in 2008 to about 75% in 2021. While U.S. households reduced debt, Canadians increased theirs and this will likely continue to increase unless we address affordability in the housing market. The chart below shows these figures, and how debt burdens have increased for countries on the right of the chart while decreasing for countries on the left. Australia, New Zealand and Canada have seen household debt increase from already high levels.

PROPTECH EVOLUTIONISING RENTAL REAL ESTATE FOR INDIAN MILLENNIALS
NEW DELHI, (IANSLIFE) Gone are the days when real estate was solely a topic of interest for our parents and grandparents. Millennials have entered the scene and changed the ways of the real estate industry for good. Defined as people born between 1983 and 1996, millennials in India account for 34 percent (440 million) of the country's total population.
A recent survey published by Economics Times revealed that over 50 per cent of Indian millennials are willing to spend more than 25 per cent of their income on fully managed rental accommodations to ensure a hassle-free lifestyle. However, this shift of the newer generation towards rental properties did not occur overnight. The growing demand for rental properties in India can be attribut ed to urbanisation, population growth, and evolving lifestyles. In addition, the pandemic has also accelerated this trend, with remote and hybrid work arrangements allowing ease of working from any corner of the world and creating a demand for spacious, comfortable living spaces. With the intervention of cutting-edge technology in the real estate market through proptech, here is how proptech platforms have come to the aid of millennials who are trying to find their dream homes in this competitive market:

SCREEN TIME IN TEENAGERS: HOW TO MANAGE IT?
1. Use rules about screen time and digital technology use: You can help teenagers balance screen time and digital technology through family rules or a family media plan. It’s okay if your rules include time limits to help your child balance screen time with other things like physical activity.
2. Look into extracurricular activities:
Extracurricular activities, interests, and hobbies are good for your child because they give your child the chance to meet new people and develop skills. This means they’re a great way to balance screen time. Extracurricular activities can be just about anything your child enjoys outside school like sports, drama, or hobbies like craft. They can also be things that you’ve encouraged your child to do, like language classes, music, debating, swimming, community activities, or casual work.
3. Encourage socializing and friendship:
Even if your child uses social media to keep up with friends, it’s good for your child to socialize face-to-face too. Being with other people helps your child develop social skills and gives your child a social group to do new things with, especially those that are different from what the family does.

WHAT ARE THE 8 FACTORS CAUSING YOU WRINKLES?
Sunlight exposure
Wrinkles are primarily brought on by the sun. UV radiation from sunlight can penetrate the deepest layers of skin and break down collagen, which makes the skin less flexible. Wear sunscreen that is suited for your skin type whether you are inside or outside, whether you are driving or just relaxing by the window. Given the previous weather, SPF 30 or higher is recommended. The sun's indirect rays might also lead to wrinkles. People who work in the sun are more likely to get early wrinkles. Wrinkles may be avoided by donning clothes that covers the skin, such as long sleeves or a hat.
Smoking and alcohol consumption
Smoking often reduces the blood flow to the skin, accelerating skin ageing. Skin is dried out by alcohol. As a result, the skin loses strength and flexibility. Wrinkles start to develop as the skin begins to sag. So for the sake of your skin, give up drinking and smoking.
Squinting
Squinting and particularly active facial movements like furrowing your brows and frowning can also contribute to wrinkles. When you squint, your face muscles stiffen up. Dr Karuna Malhotra, Cosmetologist and Aesthetic Physician from Cosmetic Skin Clinic, New Delhi said "as a result, your skin cells become squeezed and lose their suppleness. Many individuals have a tendency to squint. But you may change this negative behaviour and stop wrinkles from forming by making conscious efforts."
Stress is a key culprit
Dr Sandeep Babbar, Medical Director and Dermatologist from Revyve Skin, Hair and Nail Clinic, Faridabad explained "as we age, the body produces less collagen, and stress also decreases collagen production and can cause inflammation. Collagen loses flexibility and rigidity as it ages, making it less effective at promoting skin regeneration and wound healing. Both a loss of flexibility and persistent brow furrowing brought on by stress can cause wrinkles. Stress can also cause wrinkles to emerge because high amounts of the stress hormone cortisol can break down the collagen and elastin in the skin."
Dry skin
If you have dry skin, you are more likely to have wrinkles. People with dry skin produce less sebum, the skin's natural moisturiser, which acts as a barrier to shield your skin from the whims of the climate. Regularly moisturise at least twice a day to prevent wrinkles because doing so prevents dryness, which reduces the likelihood that wrinkles will appear.
