India has taken strong exception to the Justin Trudeau administration not taking adequate steps to curb anti-India activities in Canada.
India's External Affairs Minister has made it clear that New Delhi has taken up the issue of extremist violence and anti-India activities in Canada with the Trudeau government, and is not satisfied with the response from Ottawa. Jaishankar while replying to a journalist in Canberra, Australia recently said that Canada should not allow freedom of expression to be misused by antiIndia forces preaching violence and bigotry.
India has served a demarche to the Justin Trudeau government asking it to bridle forces behind the so-called Khalistan referendum. The second leg of the referendum is slated to be held in Mississauga, Ontario on November 6. Canada in response to a note verbale issued by India has said it "will not recognize the so-called referendum" organized by the Sikhs for Justice but at the same time cited its lack of jurisdiction to instruct the municipal authorities of the city of Brampton and Mississauga not to allow the use of public properties for holding an anti-India referendum. Y Media's request for comment has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but no response has yet been received.
MOTIVE BEHIND KILLING OF PUNJABI FAMILY
Jesus Salgado, the 48 year-old involved in the kidnapping and killing of a punjabi family, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one for each life lost, the Merced County Sheriff's Office said. Salgado was booked for kidnapping and murdering four members of an Indian-origin family, including an eight-month-old child, in California on October 3, and was sent to the county jail on October 6. The Merced County district attorney's office said in a news release that it would not make a determination this year on whether to pursue the death penalty in the case of Jesus Manuel Salgado, the Los Angeles Times reported. Salgado is said to have had a long-standing feud with the family and was a former employee in their trucking business. In a mindless act of revenge, Salgado murdered the family.
Salgado is currently undergoing medical treatment after he attempted to kill himself before officials arrived to arrest him on October 4.
Relatives of the family told investigators that Salgado had sent angry text messages or e-mails about a year ago after working with the trucking business, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said.
He was also arrested 17 years ago for robbing a family he then used to work for, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Salgado's younger brother Alberto Salgado, 41, was also taken into custody last week and has been accused of criminal conspiracy, accessory, and destroying evidence.

INDIA VOTES WITH WEST ON 3 UNGA PROCEDURAL MATTERS, WHILE JAISHANKAR SILENT ON UKRAINE
While External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar kept the world in suspense on how India would vote on the upcoming resolution in the UN General Assembly condemning Russia’s annexation of parts of Ukraine, New Delhi has voted with the West on three procedural matters. When the Assembly met on Monday morning to discuss the resolution it became embroiled in a controversy over whether the voting should be by secret ballot necessitating the procedural votes.
Russia which had launched a missile barrage on Ukraine a few hours earlier lost all the three votes on the procedural matters. The Assembly resolution condemning Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions is expected to come up for a vote in the Assembly on Wednesday or Thursday. It is nearly identical to the resolution that was vetoed by Russia last week in the Security Council. India had abstained in the Council vote. To preempt Moscow’s anticipated move to have the resolution decided by secret ballot in the Assembly, Albania proposed a motion to have an open vote. Despite Russia’s objections, it was put to vote and it was carried by 107 votes to 13, with 39 abstentions. Russia then asked for another vote on the matter, which Assembly President Csaba Korosi ruled would be a vote to reconsider the motion for open voting that was approved. But before it could be voted Russia’s Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzia objected to Korosi’s ruling and his challenge was put to vote.

ONTARIO BEGINS CONSTRUCTION ON CONFEDERATION GO STATION IN HAMILTON
The Ontario government is marking the start of construction on the Confederation GO station in Hamilton. The new station will help reduce gridlock and connect more people to jobs, housing and transit in one of the fastest growing regions in the province.
“Families, commuters and businesses throughout Hamilton and across the Greater Golden Horseshoe rely on the Lakeshore West line every day,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Building the new Confederation GO station will make it easier for Hamilton commuters to access transit and boost economic growth. Our government is getting it done and delivering the convenient transit options that people deserve.”
Confederation GO station will offer several key amenities, including an accessible island platform with canopies, pedestrian tunnel, 15-vehicle passenger pick-up and drop-off area and direct stair access from Centennial Parkway. Commuters will also have access to approximately 150 additional parking spaces.
“Better connecting regions throughout the province has been a priority for
our government and with this expansion of transit services into the City of Hamilton, we are delivering,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “Building Ontario through critical transit infrastructure projects, like Confederation GO station, is part of our plan to fight gridlock and reduce emissions, while connecting more people to jobs and housing.”
The new station will support a more integrated transit network for Hamilton, providing better connections to existing local transit and GO bus services, while facilitating future increased GO rail service opportunities to Toronto and Niagara Falls.
“Hamilton has seen significant growth as a destination to live, work, and play in, which requires more transit options to support residents and visitors alike,” said Fred Eisenberger, Mayor of Hamilton. “We are extremely pleased to see the Government of Ontario and Metrolinx prioritize the building of the Confederation GO station, which will better link East Hamilton, Stoney Creek and the entire Golden Horseshoe area with more choice and better access to and from our community.”
Canada Approves Pfizer’s Bivalent Booster Targeting Omicron Subvariants
Health Canada authorized a second bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster. This is an updated version of the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine, targeting the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, and is authorized for use as a booster dose in individuals 12 years of age and older.
Health Canada has authorized this vaccine after a thorough and independent scientific review of the evidence that has determined that this booster is safe and effective. The booster is expected to trigger a strong immune response against both the original SARS-CoV-2 strain as well as the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 subvariants. It is expected to have a similar safety profile to the original Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine, with mostly mild side effects.
Vaccination continues to be one of the most effective tools to protect families, communities and ourselves against COVID-19. Evidence indicates that all mRNA COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in Canada continue to be very effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. Keeping up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines, including getting booster doses as recommended, will help protect individuals against serious illness and other complications from COVID19 infection.
Health Canada has placed terms and conditions on the authorization,
requiring Pfizer-BioNTech to continue providing information to Health Canada on the safety and efficacy of the BA.4/BA.5 bivalent vaccine. This will provide the Department with more data from ongoing studies and real-world use to ensure that the benefits of the vaccine continue to outweigh any risks, as well as to detect any potential new safety signals. Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will continue to closely monitor the safety of this vaccine in Canada and internationally.
AMID ‘RIFT’ WITH AAP, PUNJAB GOVERNOR TURNS DOWN VICE CHANCELLOR’S APPOINTMENT
Amid the “rift” between Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Bhagwant Mann, the former on Tuesday declined to clear the appointment of cardiologist Gurpreet Wander as Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, saying the government violated the rules by recommending only one name. The Governor, who is the Chancellor of the university, has returned the file by asking the government to send a panel of three candidates for the selection to the post. Interestingly, the Chief Minister has already
announced the appointment of noted cardiologist Wander as the next Vice Chancellor. The post fell vacant after one of country’s top orthopaedic surgeons Raj Bahadur had resigned citing humiliation by state Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra during his visit to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. The minister was caught in a row when he asked Bahadur to lie on a “dirty” patient’s bed during the visit. A video of the minister “forcibly asking the Vice Chancellor to lie on the bed” had gone viral on the social media.

Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in Canada with over 3 million people with diabetes in the country and 200,000 new cases diagnosed every year. It poses many challenges, such as serious complications and premature death for those affected by diabetes, and has impacts on health care systems.
Budget 2021 announced $35 million over five years for research, surveillance and prevention, and to work towards the development of a national framework for diabetes. In June 2021, An Act to Establish a National Framework for Diabetes, introduced by Member of Parliament for Brampton South, Sonia Sidhu was unanimously passed by Parliament.
Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, tabled the first of its kind, Framework for Diabetes in Canada. The Framework provides common policy direction to help align efforts and to support improved access prevention and treatment for all types of diabetes to ensure better health outcomes.
“The release of this Framework marks an important milestone in our efforts to better recognize, collaborate with, and support those living with diabetes in Canada. As we work to make meaningful change in the lives of those affected, we hope that all our partners use this as a tool to build on the many important initiatives and investments that are already in place,” Minister Duclos said. The Framework was informed by people living with diabetes, academics, researchers, not-for-profit organizations, provinces and territories, Indigenous communities and other important partners to ensure that it makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those living with diabetes.
Brampton South MP Sonia Sidhu said, “Today’s tabling of the Framework for Diabetes in Canada is a culmination of years of tireless work to improve the well-being of people living with diabetes from coast to coast to coast. The framework will give hope to millions of Canadians and provide a common direction to help align our work across the country on prevention, research, treatment, and so much more. My sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Bill C-237 and helped the national framework come to fruition.” To move forward in addressing diabetes in Canada, we must look at social determinants of health and take a people-centred approach. All relevant partners are invited to use the Framework to guide action to address diabetes and advance opportunities in ways that meet their respective mandates and objectives, and that are adapted to their respective community contexts.
“Today’s tabling of the Diabetes Framework is a significant step forward in helping improve the quality of life of people who live with diabetes. Diabetes Canada thanks Minister Duclos and extends gratitude to MP Sonia Sidhu for her leadership in making this Framework a reality. We are proud to have led the call, alongside thousands of volunteers and hundreds of organizations throughout Canada, for a diabetes framework for the past several years and we look forward to continued collaboration with these groups and governments on the implementation,” Laura Syron, President and CEO, Diabetes Canada said.
INDIA TO PRIORITISE STRENGTHENING OF MULTILATERAL BODIES DURING ITS G-20 PRESIDENCY
Strengthening multilateral institutions will be a priority for India in the year-long presidency of the G-20 group of the developed and developing nations that it assumes in coming December, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at the US think tank on Tuesday. The minister, who is in Washington DC for the annual meetings of the World Bank Group, spoke on a wide-range of issues including India's growth, whose robustness was testified in an IMF report released earlier in the day, the future of reforms and challenges and risks facing India, primarily, in her telling, energy prices and the supply of fertilizers. "Multi-lateral institutions need to be strengthened, their capacity to deal with pandemics or any such future stressful global developments will have to be battered," Sitharaman said. India takes over the rotational presidency from Indonesia. In the last few decades, she added, "institutions existed but problems remain and solutions are not coming through them". Asked if she would like to see newer institutions instead, Sitharaman said that she is not against new institutions but she would like to see the improvement of the effectiveness of the existing bodies based on lessons learnt.

Sumeeth Guda, a mathematics and science student, who worked with Chheda on group projects, described him as a hardworking and diligent person, the Purdue Exponent reported. Just 10 days shy of his 21st birthday, Varun Manish Chheda, a senior majoring in data science from Purdue University, was killed in an overnight attack by his roommate Ji Min Sha, a 22-year-old junior cybersecurity major from Seoul. Arunabh Sinha, who went to school with Chheda for 12 years, remembered him as smart and humble. “A really smart guy, always top of his class, top of the chess club, science bowl team. He was really humble about it,” Sinha told NBC News. Chheda graduated from Park Tudor High School in 2020 and was a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program the year he graduated. He was also a candidate in the 2020 US Presidential Scholars Program and ran cross country in 2019. “The entire Park Tudor community is incredibly saddened by the tragic loss of Varun Chheda, Park Tudor class of 2020. Our prayers are with his family at this difficult time,” Dennis Bisgaard, the interim head of Park Tudor, told Fox News Digital in a statement. The Purdue University website said that it is currently home to 2,300 Indian students-793 undergraduates and 1,507 graduate and professional program students. About 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled for the fall semester, according to the university website.

Destruction caused by climate change
Various reports highlight the fact that Climate Change has been caused by the rich nations and thus poor countries have started demanding compensation for the climate changes, which have adversely impacted them.
The forthcoming COP27, UN climate talks due to be held in Egypt in November, may highlight the compensation system for poorer countries known as "loss and damage", caused by the Climate Change.
It is a fact, corroborated by various UN and independent reports that Climate Change over the last 25 years particularly has caused costly damages, including drought, rising heat, less or more rains, tropical cyclones and more gradual changes, such as desertification and rising sea levels across the globe.
It has been proven that these changes could be attributed to the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The rich industrialised countries are responsible for most of the emissions causing these phenomena.
Loss and Damage
The poorer countries, as they are unable to take timely corrective measures to mitigate these changes caused by others in the past, face the negative affects of Climate Change first. Thus, the new concept of "Loss and Damages" has started taking roots amongst them.
Under this new concept they are demanding adequate financial help to take corrective measures to mitigate these changes, caused by the richer, industrialised nations, in the past. Now they are redefining it as a matter of liability and compensation, rather than aid after a particular natural disaster.
Loss and damage is also referred to as the "third pillar" of climate change politics, after mitigation (tackling the root cause of the problem by reducing emissions) and adaptation (preparing for current and future impacts). However, developed countries have pushed back against this since 1990s when the text of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was being drawn up, terming it completely implausible.
Meanwhile, a group of island countries had proposed that an international insurance fund be created to compensate low-lying countries for the damage caused by rising sea levels.
The Economist magazine reports that in 2015, at the talks, which culminated in the adoption of the Paris Agreement, developing countries again sought a strong clause on loss and damage financing. But they ended up with only a vague reference to the issue. And concrete action was left for future discussions, thus the Egypt Summit offers a chance again to hammer out a concrete policy and action plan on the issue.
Positive actions
Denmark has recently pledged just over $13m to developing countries that have suffered damage from climate change and more developed countries may follow suit.
Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, at COP26 in Glasgow last November, promised 2 million pounds ($2.7 million) as a one-off loss and damage payment, apparently hoping that other rich countries might
“
BUT THEY ENDED UP WITH ONLY A VAGUE REFERENCE TO THE ISSUE.
follow suit, however, they did not.
But the pressure for them to do so is increasing. Last month ministers from an alliance known as the 'Least Developed Countries Alliance' (LDCA) having 46 members, called the creation of a financial mechanism for loss and damage a "fundamental priority" for COP27. At the UNGA last month, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres suggested that windfall taxes on fossil fuel companies might provide the funding for one.
But is easier said that done and may not happen at all. There is an utter lack of enthusiasm among the developed countries for such a pay out. Some developing countries are tentatively seeking redress through international law.
On September 22, the UN Human Rights Committee ordered the Australian government to pay compensation to indigenous people living on the islands of the Torres Strait, which are being eroded by rising seas. Perhaps it is for the first time that such a payment has been ordered. The Australian government seemed sympathetic to the islanders' plight. But whether it will translate into hard cash, let alone a costly acceptance of liabilityremains to be seen. Hence, a global framework for loss and damage still looks like a distant prospect.
Disasters in the developed world
Meanwhile, the developed world is also not safe from the Climate Change vagaries. Natural disasters such as Hurricane Ian, which recently left behind a trail of damages running in billions of dollars, are on the rise in the United States.
Hurricane Ian, which battered parts of Florida and South Carolina, is estimated to be the latest in a growing trend of billion-dollar disasters in the United States.
As compared to between 1980 and 2021, when the average of such events happening was 7.7, the past five years have witnessed an increase to 17.8 of such events per year. Last year marked the seventh consecutive year in which ten or more billion-dollar disasters pummelled the US. By July of this year there had already been nine such disasters.
It has been reported that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
in May 2022, reached a level that has not been seen in millions of years, and that is over 50 percent higher than in the pre-industrial era. The heat trapped by carbon dioxide and other human-produced greenhouse gases has increased the world's average temperature.
Climate change is "supercharging the increasing frequency and intensity" of weather extremes, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It spawns greater rainfall variability, lengthens the wildfire season in the American West, increases drought vulnerability, and drives bigger storm surges as sea levels rise. Given the relentless accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, 2022 is likely the harbinger of a more violent weather in future.
To reduce such natural mishaps happening again and again, both developed and developing nations need to adopt practices, which rapidly reduce and remove heat-trapping emissions from the atmosphere to limit warming extremes.
In addition, they'll have to look towards greener sources of energy instead of fossil fuels, which have contributed to a large extent to green gas emissions.
But at the same time, they'll also have to adopt and put into practice policies, which mitigate the damages in the poorer countries, instead of just offering one time aid to ease off their burden.
The forthcoming Egypt Summit should strive to find a new feasible approach to counter the Climate Change disasters, instead of just hollow promises and no real ground work, as has happened at previous COP conferences.

AVERAGE HOME PRICE IN GTA DOWN BY 4.3% TO $1.08M FROM LAST YEAR, SALES DOWN BY 44.1% IN SEPT.
CONTD. FROM PAGE 1
New listings were also down on a year-over-year basis by 16.7 per cent to 11,237. This was the lowest number of new listings reported for the month of September since 2002. This is especially troublesome given that the stock of homes in the GTA increased markedly over the last 20 years. Recent polling by Ipsos Public Affairs for TRREB1 suggests that the public agrees the lack of housing supply is a key issue in the GTA. The poll found that 71 per cent of combined Toronto and ‘905’ regions residents believe that municipalities should focus their efforts on increasing the supply of homes for sale and rent rather than trying to reduce demand for housing.
“We must ensure that the temporary dip in housing demand is not allowed to mask the critical shortage of homes available for sale in the GTA. Candidates running in the upcoming Ontario municipal elections must ensure home buyers and renters have adequate housing options in the years to come. Municipal council decisions have a direct impact on housing affordability, in terms of the protracted development approval processes, high development fees and other related policies that preclude timely housing development,” said TRREB President Kevin Crigger. “Elected councils must also reconsider existing policies that preclude homeowners from listing their homes for sale, including significant added upfront costs like the land transfer tax. Potential new policies like
mandatory home energy audits could also create unnecessary interference and delays in the home selling process and dissuade some homeowners from listing their homes for sale,” said TRREB CEO John DiMichele.
“Energy audits should be voluntary, a feeling which is supported 73 per cent of Torontonians and 78 per cent of ‘905’ residents recently polled by Ipsos Public Affairs for TRREB. If councils continue to support policies that restrict new home development and existing home listings, such as exclusionary zoning, housing affordability will be severely hampered over the long term, which will also hamper our region’s future growth,” added DiMichele. The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) Composite benchmark was up on a year-over-year basis by 4.3 per cent. Over the same period of time, the average price dipped by 4.3 per cent to $1,086,762.
The average price was up compared to August 2022.
“Hovering just below $1.1 million, the average selling price may have found some support during the last couple months of summer. With new listings down quite substantially year-over-year and well-below historic norms, some home buyers are quite possibly experiencing tighter market conditions in some GTA neighbourhoods. October generally represents the peak of the fall market, so it will be important to see where price trends head over the next month,” said TRREB Chief Market Analyst Jason Mercer.
CANADA ADDED 21,000 JOBS IN SEPTEMBER, UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DOWN TO 5.2%
CONTD. FROM PAGE 1
Gains in educational services and health care and social assistance were offset by losses in manufacturing; information, culture and recreation; transportation and warehousing; and public administration.
The number of employees in the public sector rose in September, partially offsetting declines recorded in July and August. Employment was little changed among employees in the private sector and among self-employed workers.
Employment increased in four provinces, led by British Columbia, while there were fewer people working in Ontario and Prince Edward Island.
Year-over-year wage growth remained above 5% for a fourth consecutive month, with the average hourly wages of employees rising 5.2% (+$1.57 to $31.67) compared with September 2021 (not seasonally adjusted).
Total hours worked were down 0.6% in September. Despite declining by 1.1% since June, total hours worked were up 2.4% on a year-over-year basis.
After increasing in August, unemployment rate declines in September
After increasing 0.5 percentage points to 5.4% in August, the unemployment rate dropped to 5.2% in September.
The adjusted unemployment rate—which includes people who wanted a job but did not look for one—was little changed. In the Spotlight
In September, there were just under one million (983,000; 57.5%) people aged 55 to 64 who cited retirement as their main activity.
While the employment rate among core-aged mothers was at a record high in September, those with a child under 16 were twice as likely (14.9%) to have decided not to apply for a job or a promotion over the previous 12 months than their male counterparts (7.1%).

FORMER CP24 MEDIA PERSONALITY, PATRICIA JAGGERNAUTH, FILES HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLAINT AGAINST BELL MEDIA

Jaggernauth spilled the beans in a two-part Instagram reel about how she left her "dream job" and how she was denied a confirmed position many times during her 11-year tenure with Bell Media. She was known for her upbeat, bubbly personality and huge ear-to-ear grin as a weather specialist and sometimes host of CP24's morning show. "I received hardly any raises and no promotions or opportunities over my 11 years. Except CP24 would give me opportunities, filling in for white colleagues, weather and hosting." She alleges to have only received one raise in her more than a decadelong relationship with Bell, which amounts to around $14. "As a longtime Emmy-award winning TV personality, I had been treated like a token and a commodity by CP24 and Bell, passed over for promotions more times that I can count." Bell Media commented, "we do not comment on matters involving current or former staff members, but can confirm that Bell Media takes allegations of any potential discrimination very seriously, and are committed to a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment where employees can thrive.
UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH-HUMBER WITHDRAWS BRAMPTON RELOCATION PLANS
CONTD. FROM PAGE 1
The University of Guelph and Humber College began considering a new home for the University of Guelph-Humber to support continued growth and long-term expansion. In June 2021, Brampton City Council unanimously supported a motion to direct City staff to enter into discussions with the two parent institutions on possibly relocating University of Guelph-Humber in its entirety to Brampton, with the University of Guelph-Humber as the anchor tenant of the planned CFI starting in 2026. Throughout the process, which included detailed space analysis and refined requirements for instructional and study spaces, it became apparent that space constraints were a significant concern. This was raised in a letter to Council from Chris Whitaker, then Pres ident of Humber College, and Charlotte Yates, President of University of Guelph, which was shared with City staff on March 31, 2022.

MP Sonia Sidhu announces applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program on behalf of Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
Family reunification plays a significant role in attracting, retaining and integrating immigrants who contribute to our success as a country. Canada has an extremely generous family sponsorship program, which allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents the option to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada as permanent residents.
Today, Member of Parliament Sonia Sidhu, on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced that, this year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to reunite families by accepting up to 15,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program. This week, IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 23,100 interested potential sponsors—enough to make sure we receive our goal of 15,000 applications. Invitations will be sent over the course of two weeks. MP Sidhu said, “Family reunification is important to Canadians and plays a key role in our immigration system. We recognize that reuniting parents and grandparents with their families in Canada provides immense contributions to our communities. Parents, their children, and their grandchildren want to be together and our Government has made significant progress toward that. Today’s announcement will help reunite more families in Canada and is an important step in the right direction.” Due to the number of interest-to-sponsor forms remaining in the pool of
submissions from 2020, IRCC will send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of opening a new interest-to-sponsor form. This is the same approach taken for the 2021 intake. Anyone who submitted an interest to the sponsor form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation to apply in January 2021 or September 2021 is encouraged to check the email account they provided when they submitted their interest. Those who wish to reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada, but who are not invited this year may consider having their parents or grandparents apply for a super visa, a multiple entry visa that is valid for 10 years. Enhancements to the super visa, implemented in Summer 2022, allow super visa holders to stay in Canada for five years at a time, extending their visits by up to two years without leaving the country. These changes make it easier for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to reunite with their parents and grandparents in Canada for longer periods of time. “Family reunification is an essential part of Canada’s immigration system. Building on recently-announced enhancements to the parents and grandparents super visa, opening a PGP sponsorship intake and accepting up to 15,000 applications in 2022 demonstrates the government’s commitment to reuniting families while strengthening Canada’s immigration system,” Immigration Minister Fraser.
MOTIVE BEHIND KILLING OF PUNJABI FAMILY IN US?
The bodies of 8-month-old AroohiDheri, her parents Jasleen Kaur, 27, and Jasdeep Singh, 36, and her uncle Amandeep Singh, 39 were located in an "extremely remote" area near the intersection of Indiana and Hutchins roads. "Our Detectives, alongside investigators from assisting agencies, will continue to follow up on any leads of additional people who may have been involved in this horrific incident," the statement by police added. Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke told the media the brutal killing spree was one of the worst crimes he's investigated in his 43 years in law enforcement. According to Warnke, Salgado was convicted in 2005 in a case involving armed robbery and false imprisonment. He was paroled in 2015 and knew the victims. Responding to the gruesome murder, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sought the intervention of the External Affairs Minister for impressing upon the US government to conduct a thorough probe into crime. In a statement, the Chief Minister said it is unfortunate that a Punjabi family hailing from the Harsi village of Hoshiarpur district in the state have been murdered in California. He said this is a highly condemnable incident which has shocked everyone, especially the Punjabis living across the globe.
IMF DOWNGRADES
2023 GLOBAL GROWTH FORECAST TO 2.7%
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected the global economy to grow by 3.2 per cent in 2022 and 2.7 per cent in 2023, with a downward 0.2-percentage-point revision for 2023 from the July forecast, according to the latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report. The global economy is experiencing “a number of turbulent challenges”, as inflation higher than seen in several decades, tightening financial conditions in most regions, Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the lingering Covid-19 pandemic all weigh heavily on the outlook, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the report. “This is the weakest growth profile since 2001 except for the global financial crisis and the acute ph ase of the Covid-19 pandemic and reflects significant slowdowns for the largest economies,” the report noted.
INDIAN STUDENTS TO BENEFIT THE MOST AS CANADA ALLOWS MORE THAN 20-HOUR WORK

Making this announcement, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said the temporary lifting of the 20-hour per week cap for the eligible postsecondary students will help in economic recovery and growth. The students will be allowed to work for more than 20 hours from November 15, 2022, till the end of 2023.
There are more than 600,000 international students in Canada, out of which over 240,000 are from India.
A government statement said, "This measure will provide many international students with a greater opportunity to gain valuable work experience in Canada, and will increase the availability of workers to sustain Canada's post-pandemic growth.
"Today's announcement is part of a series of initiatives that aim to benefit international students and graduates, while supporting Canada's broader efforts to improve client service and application processing times."
INDO-AMERICAN SITAL DOSANJH, 74, ARRESTED FOR KILLING DAUGHTER-IN-LAW GURPREET KAUR ‘POSSIBLY OUT OF ANGER OVER HER PLANS TO DIVORCE HIS SON’
CONTD. FROM PAGE 1
Sital Singh Dosanjh killed Gurpreet Kaur Dosanjh
“possibly out of anger over her plans to divorce his son”, the East Bay Times reported citing authorities.
According to the police, just before her murder, a “frightened” Gurpreet Kaur was on the phone with her uncle, telling him that her father-in-law was looking for her.
The victim said she saw him “driving in the lot” in his black Silverado pickup truck, and that he “travelled 150 miles to find her”.
Five hours later after the call, a Walmart co-worker discovered Gurpreet Kaur’s body in the same parking lot, in the same car, suffering from at least two gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead on the spot.
The police said the uncle, who was the last person to hear his niece alive, helped investigators formally identify Sital Dosanjh as the likely suspect. He told the police that his niece “was in the process of divorcing Sital Dosanjh’s son”, adding that the husband and his father lived in Fresno, while Gurpreet Kaur lived in San Jose, a Mercury News report said.
Sital Dosanjh was arrested at his home in Fresno, the next morning, and a .22-caliber Beretta pistol was seized from his home, according to a police investigative summary accompanying a murder charge filed by Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
Sital did not enter a plea and was ordered to return to court on November 14. Indian-American killings have been on a steep rise in the US with four kidnapped members of a Sikh family, including their eight-month-old infant, found dead in Orchard, California.
The same day, a 20-year-old Purdue University student, Varun Manish Chheda, was brutally killed by his roommate in the dorm room of the university campus.
BRITISH MP PREET KAUR GILL SEEKS 'URGENT ACTION' ON RISING HATE CRIMES AGAINST SIKHS IN UK
CONTD. FROM PAGE 1
The 169 per cent increase is compared to a 38 per cent increase in reported religious hate crimes overall", Gill said in the letter, which she released on Twitter on Monday.
The 2001 census recorded 336,000 Sikhs living in Britain.
Gill said 301 hate crimes against Sikhs were reported in 2021-22, up from 112 in 2020-2021. The letter, which was also addressed to Simon Clarke, secretary of the department for levelling up, housing and communities (DLUHC), comes as 28 year-old Claudio Capos from Manchester was awarded a three year jail term recently for attacking 62year-old Avtar Singh in broad daylight this June. Singh had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, a stroke caused by bleeding on the brain and multiple fractures to his cheek, jaw and eye socket as a result of the attack, the BBC reported. Gill, in her letter, urged Braverman to implement the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report on British Sikhs, which was published in 2020. The report found that the lack of an official term was a contributing factor as to why crimes against Sikhs go largely "unnoticed, unreported and unrecorded". This report, Gill said, was shared with both the home secretary and communities secretary at the time and was an attempt to consult the government on the definition of Anti-Sikh hate. "However, despite multiple promises of substantive response and offers of a meeting, the home office and DLUHC, between them, have failed to respond," she added.

Talking about voters of Uttar Pradesh, he said that there were a total of "1250 voters" (delegates) in UP. "I am not here to see the chances for me, the candidates that have asked me to contest will be responsible for my victory," he added. Earlier on Sunday, Kharge had said that he is fighting the Congress Presidential polls because the condition in the country is very "bad" and he wants to "fight" them. "I want to fight because the condition in the country is bad. Modi and Shah are doing politics where there is no place for Democracy. Agencies like CBI and ED are weakening.
To fight them I need to have power. That is why, on the recommendation of delegations, I am fighting the polls," Kharge had said. Digvijaya Singh pulled out from the race earlier and extended his support to Kharge, who he said is a senior and respected leader of the party, and against whom he "cannot think of contesting". Singh was the second Congress leader to pull out of the race after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced he would not contest the elections following the political turmoil in his state. With the Gandhis not running for the top post, the grand old party is all set to get a non-Gandhi president after over 25 years.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 8.

OPEC+ CUTS OUTPUT
President Joe Biden on Tuesday (October 11) said that there will be “consequences” for Saudi Arabia as the Riyadh-led OPEC+ alliance moves to cut oil production and Democratic lawmakers call for a freeze on cooperation with the Saudis. Biden suggested he would soon take action, as aides announced that the administration is reevaluating its relationship with the kingdom in light of the oil production cut that White House officials say will help another OPEC+ member, Russia, pad its coffers as it continues its nearly eight-month war in Ukraine. Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Rep. Ro Khanna of California introduced legislation that would immediately pause all US arms sales to Saudi Arabia for one year. This pause would also halt sales of spare and repair parts, support services and logistical support.

Former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard announced she is leaving the Democratic Party, denouncing it as an "elitist cabal of war mongers," while calling upon other "common sense independent-minded Democrats" to exit with her, media reports said. "I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racialising every issue & stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith & spirituality, demonise the police & protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponise the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war," Gabbard said, ABC News reported. Gabbard represented Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021 as a Democrat, and in 2020 she mounted an unsuccessful bid for the party's presidential nomination. High Court quashes Punjab Police's FIRs registered against Kumar Vishwas, Tajinderpal Bagga
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday quashed two separate FIRs registered against poet Kumar Vishwas and BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga. The court said the continuation of the criminal case against Bagga will amount to ‘an abuse of the process of law’. While Vishwas was booked by the Rupnagar Police in Punjab over his alleged inflammatory statements against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, Bagga was booked on charges of making provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation at Mohali in April. The poet allegedly made inflammatory statements against Kejriwal alleging links with separatist elements and he was booked under sections 153, 153A, 505, and others. Senior counsel Chetal Mittal said that Justice Anoop Chitkara ordered the quashing of the FIRs. After the pronouncement of the verdict, Vishwas thanked the judiciary and admirers.

IMF EXPECTS INFLATION IN INDIA TO COME DOWN TO 4% RANGE NEXT YEAR
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects India's inflation rate to come down to the 4 per cent range in the next financial year with additional monetary tightening from being above the Reserve Bank's target of 6.9 per cent.
Daniel Leigh, the IMF's head of World Economic Studies Division, said at a news conference on Tuesday, "We do expect that inflation will come back into the inflation tolerance band 4 per cent in fiscal year 2023-2024, and additional monetary tightening is going to ensure that that happens." IMF's chief economist PierreOlivier Gourinchas said, "Inflation is still above the central bank target in India at 6.9 per cent (that) were projected for this year and coming down to 5.1 per cent". "So, the overall stance of policy within that fiscal and monetary policy should probably be on a tightening side," he added at the release of the IMF's World Economic Outlook (WEO) report. According to the IMF, the global inflation rate is projected to be 8.8 per cent this year and come down to 6.5 per cent next year. Overall, Gourinchas said, "India has been doing fairly well in 2022 and is expected to continue growing fairly robustly in 2023".

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt tied the knot on April 14 earlier this year. The romance brewed for the celebrity couple on the sets of Brahmastra in 2017 and now they are expecting their first child together. Alia announced her pregnancy in June with a social media post in which the couple was seen smiling as they looked at the sonography test. Recently, while appearing on the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10, Ranbir's mother Neetu Kapoor revealed some interesting details about her son's wedding with Alia.
Neetu Kapoor appeared on the 'Kapoor Special' episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10. As she joined Karan Johar on the judging panel, Neetu and the Bollywood filmmaker revealed some interesting details from Ranbir and Alia's wedding day. Neetu shared that Ranbir cried when he saw Alia walk down the aisle dressed as a bride. Karan affirmed
this and added that the only time he had seen Ranbir cry off the screen. It was tears of joy as the moment was very special for the couple, Karan added.
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 contestant Niti Taylor and her choreographer partner Akash Thapa's performance was dedicated to Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's love story and wedding. The duo performed on Ranbir's track Khuda Jaane from Bachna Ae Haseeno. Their chemistry impressed the judges a lot and prompted Neetu and Karan's memories from Ranbir and Alia's wedding day.
Phone Bhoot’s first song “Kinna Sonna” is out. The track has been written, composed by Tanishk Bagchi and crooned by Zahrah S Khan and Tanishk Bagchi. As far as the visuals go, it has been pitched as a club song with peppy beats as Katrina grooves to the music in fitted red dress. She is later accompanied by the duo of Ishaan and Siddhant, who are dressed identically in some formals and dark glasses. The full video song will be available on Thursday. Recently, the trailer of the horror-comedy was unveiled in Mumbai. The film sees Katrina Kaif and Sheeba Chaddha playing ghosts as Katrina teams up with Ishaan and Siddhant to form a desi ghostbuster trio of their own in order to provide nirvana to the souls captured by the evil Jackie Shroff. Helmed by Gurmmeet Singh and penned by Ravi Shankaran and Jasvinder Singh Bath, Phone Bhoot has been bankrolled by Excel Entertainment, which is headed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The film will release in cinemas on November 4 this year.
Meanwhile, co-judge Madhuri
Dixit also chimed in and said that she has worked with both Alia and Ranbir separately and wished them on starting their journey as husband and wife together. She even gave Lord Krishna's idol to Neetu Kapoor and congratulated Alia on her pregnancy.

Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi have joined hands to rebel against size norms. They are funny, witty and sarcastic as they go on to call out those fat-shaming obese women. The trailer of the Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi-starrer 'Double XL' was unveiled on Wednesday. It makes a remark on bodyweight stereotypes that plague society, in a humorous manner. The film talks about body positivity and women championing each other. In a span of 3 minutes, the teaser builds up the inquisitiveness for the film as Sonakshi and Huma can be seen engaging in a fun banter about how size issues are only for women. Plugging in subtle innuendo, Sonakshi questions what would happen if they start rendering the same treatment to men, where will they go. The film is a slice-of-life social comedy drama in which both the actresses underwent massive body transformation and even piled on extra pounds for their roles in the film, which has been shot extensively in India and the UK. The film explores the journey of two plussize women, one from heartland Uttar Pradesh and the other from urban New Delhi, and also stars Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra.

WHEN PRIYANKA CHOPRA REVEALED SHE FACED ‘COMPLETE REJECTION’ IN BOLLYWOOD, CALLED CELEBRITIES FAKE: ‘I’VE COME CLOSE TO BEING BROKEN’
Global icon Priyanka Chopra had an excruciatingly difficult journey in Bollywood at the beginning of her career as she faced overwhelming rejection from most directors. During her interview to Simi Garewal in 2006, Priyanka revealed how ‘broken’ she was, and yet she emerged stronger than ever as she managed to overcome each obstacle. On how ‘easy’ it was for her, Priyanka answered, “It wasn’t. I made so many mistakes. I walked a tightrope every moment I was here. The first couple of years was really bad, because I did not trust anyone—which film was right, which not to do. I had a phase where none of my films were starting and I was wondering what was I doing here, and I was close to going back to college. And then Andaaz happened.” Andaaz is a 2003 romantic drama, which starred Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Priyanka.

At the end of the video, Jacqueline steps into her new room and seems rather thrilled with the result. Jacqueline Fernandez has been keeping
a low profile after she was named as an accused in a Rs 200 crore extortion case against alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. Just two weeks ago, Jacqueline was granted interim bail. The actor had confessed to receiving luxury cars and other expensive gifts from Chandrashekar. The next hearing for the case would be on October 22. AISHWARYA LEKSHMI PROMISES A HARDHITTING DRAMA ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
From being an actor, director to a producer, Ajay Devgn is known for donning multiple hats. In 2008, he directed and produced 'U Me Aur Hum', he also produced and acted in 'Raju Chacha' and in 2022 he directed 'Runway 34' which is inspired by an incident on a flight from Doha to Kochi in 2015. Ajay shared that having grown up on film sets (his father Veeru is a renowned action director) has armed him with various skills of filmmaking.

'Runway 34' is a riveting story of aviation clubbed with courtroom drama. Along with Ajay, it features Rakul Preet Singh and Amitabh Bachchan. Ajay further shared what he liked about the film: "Exploring something new interests me a lot. This genre, aviation drama, is fairly new in the country and it's a genre that I really enjoy. The script has a lot of drama, thrill, emotion and suspense. In order for audiences to experience the situations with us, everything had to feel real, the aircraft, the cast, the environment."
Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday unveiled the trailer of its latest offering, Ammu. The film starring Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead role, revolves around a young woman who is subjected to domestic violence. Judging from the trailer, the plot of Ammu seems pretty straightforward. A young woman, who has been raised to be submissive to patriarchal values, faces physical violence at the hands of her husband. In a scene, when Ammu complains to her mother that her husband slapped her, the first question she is asked is, ‘What did you do?’ The wifebeater, played by Naveen Chandra, is a cop. And it seems he’s prone to abuse of power both in his professional and personal life. He meets his most fierce opponent when Ammu decides that she had enough and fights back. The film also stars Simha, who seems to have played a cheeky, wisecracking lawbreaker, who behaves as if jail is his second home.
The latest Bollywood film starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan has been faring below expectations at the ticket window. After opening on the big screens on September 30 amid huge expectations, the actioner showing a cop (Saif Ali Khan) and a gangster (Hrithik Roshan) in a cat-and-mouse chase, has managed to cross Rs 100 crore mark at the worldwide box office in 9 days. The domestic business has however remained low since the start and has not been a big contributor to its collections as expected to be. Vikram Vedha was released in over 100 countries, making it one of the widest openings for a Bollywood film. Vikram Vedha opened across 22 countries in Europe and 27 countries in Africa and Latin America, including Japan, Russia, Panama and Peru, all non-traditional territories for Bollywood. Overseas, the collections of the film have been promising. It has managed to earn USD 13.89 mn (Rs. 31.72 crore) in eight days, till Friday. Adding to its domestic business, the total collections of Vikram Vedha stand at Rs 103. 82 crore worldwide in eight days. The key markets and top contributors overseas are US, Canada, UK and UAE.
Ahead of the release, Hrithik-Saif's Vikram Vedha had huge anticipation riding on it. It was expected to set new box office records. However, the reality has been very different. Since the start, it has earned low numbers. After nine days, it has managed to collect Rs 65.04 crore in India. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the business needs a boost on the second Saturday and Sunday for good collections. After seeing a jump in business on October 5, the Dussehra holiday, the numbers have been on a decline. Vikram Vedha will be aiming ar Rs 100 crore collections in the domestic market. In India, major contributors are UP, Delhi and Mumbai region.

KHLOE KARDASHIAN HAD A TUMOUR REMOVED FROM HER FACE
Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian had a tumour removed from her face after suffering a cancer scare.
The 38-year-old star has revealed to her social media followers that she's undergone an operation to have a small bump removed from her cheek, reports femlefirst.co.uk.
Khloe wrote on her Instagram Story: "I have seen numerous stories going around about the ever-evolving bandage on my face, with some of you wondering why I've been wearing one for the past few weeks.
"After noticing a small bump on my face and assuming it was something as minor as a zit, I decided to get it biopsied 7 months after realising it was not budging.
"Dermatologist Dr Tess Mauricio (@drtessmauricio) examined it, and a second biopsy was ran by Dr. Daniel Behroozan (@drdanbehroozan) because what they were both seeing was incredibly rare for someone my age. "A few days later I was told I need to have an immediate operation to remove a tumour from my face. I called none other than Dr. Garth Fischer, a dear friend of my families and one of the best surgeons in Beverly Hills who I knew would take incredible care of my face." The reality star subsequently explained that her face is currently "healing". Khloe also speculated that she'll have a scar on her face for some time to come. She said: "I'm grateful to share that Dr. Fischer @garthfishermd was able to get everything - all my margins appear clear and now we are onto the healing process. So, here we are... you'll continue to see my bandages and when I'm allowed, you'll probably see a scar (and an indention in my cheek from the tumour being removed) but until then I hope you enjoy how fabulous I'm making these face bandages look (heart emojis)."
IS WHAT'S HELPING SHILPA SHETTY COMBAT STRESS AND STAY MOTIVATED
Actress Shilpa Shetty, who fractured her leg while shooting for Rohit Shetty's web series, 'Indian Police Force' and has since been trying to recover, said that her young daughter's eagerness to be lifted by her was serving as a major motivation for her to combat the mental agony caused by the injury. Taking to Instagram to spread some positivity, the actress wrote: "It's been two months t oday...since my injury. Let me tell you honestly, it's NOT been easy. The mental agony has been as severe as the physical pain."
"For someone who's a workaholic and a fitness addict like me, these past eight weeks have had its own share of frustration, anger, sadness, and helplessness. But, I found a very strong source of motivation to get better from (my) daughter - having Samisha around me for every physiotherapy session."
"It was only as time passed that I realised how she was waiting eagerly for me to "be able to pick her up" again. Those smiles, hugs, little sweet nothings, and kisses were all I needed on some days."
"We all cope with our stressors and pain-points differently. If you can't cope with somethings on your own, seek help.
"If you know of someone who is struggling for whatever reason, extend help and support. There couldn't be a more apt day than Mental Health day to discuss this."
"Broken hearts and spirits aren't any less painful than broken bones. Everyone deserves to heal from them all. Heartfelt gratitude to my doctors Kalpesh Ghelani and Nityanand Chauhan for handholding (literally) and helping me through this process and doing it with so much love."

Spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar shared eight wickets between themselves to bowl out South Africa for just 99 and set the base for India’s comprehensive sevenwicket victory in the ODI series decider at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Tuesday.
Captain Shikhar Dhawan’s decision to bowl first after 30 minutes of delay caused by a wet outfield was justified by Kuldeep (4-18), Shahbaz (2-32) and Washington (2-15) spinning a vicious web on a pitch which had moisture and made batting difficult.
The spin troika, along with Mohammed Siraj’s 2-17, completely outplayed South Africa to bowl them out for just 99 in 27.1 overs, which is their lowest ODI score agai nst India. It is also the lowest ODI score recorded at this venue as the visitors’ lost their last six wickets for 33 runs.
Shubman Gill (49) and Shreyas Iyer (28 not out) then made short work of a paltry chase of 100 to give India their fifth successive ODI series win this year by completing the chase in 19.1 overs.
India’s move to open the bowling with Washington turned out to be successful in the third over when Quinton de Kock cut hard and gave a simple catch to the short third man.
Janneman Malan got going with a creamy cover drive for four off Siraj. In his next over, Malan danced down the pitch by nailing the pull on a harmless short ball through square leg for another four. He increased the level of his glorious shots by leaning into the drive through extra cover off Siraj his third four of the day.
But on the very next ball, Malan tried to pull another quick short ball by Siraj from off-stump, but top-edged to deep square-leg. A struggling Reeza Hendricks tried to fend off a bouncer from Siraj, but was caught by short third man on the second attempt, with South Africa at 26/3 at the end of the power-play.
Post power-play, India’s bowlers kept a tight leash on South Africa’s batters, resulting in Aiden Markram being drawn forward to drive a flighted ball from Shahbaz. But the ball dipped and Markram could only send a thin edge behind to the keeper.
More trouble came for South Africa as stand-in captain David Miller was bowled through the gate by a quicker delivery from Washington coming from around the wicket in the 19th over. In the next over, Kuldeep cramped Andile Phehlukwayo for room with his googly turning

Heinrich Klaasen was waging a lone battle for South Africa, starting by scooping Shahbaz over fine leg and pulling on backfoot through mid-wicket for a brace of fours. Klaasen was then quick to cut Washington through cover for four more.
After cutting Shahbaz past backward point for his fourth boundary, Klaasen tried to create room for another cut. But the left-arm spinner got the ball to grip, bounce and turn a little to crash into the stumps.
Kuldeep then trapped Bjorn Fortuin lbw a’d rattled Anrich Nortje’s offstump on back-to-back deliveries in a maiden 26th over. Fittingl’, he ended South Africa’s misery as Marco Jansen slog-swept to deep backward square leg.
In the chase, Gill switched on his attacking mode by pulling over ‘keeper for four in the opening over. In the next over, Shikhar Dhawan got off the m ark with a creamy drive through extra cover for four off Ngidi. After cutting Jansen past the slip cordon, Gill then wowed the fans with a well-ti med on-drive off Ngidi, beating mid-on to pick another four.
When Jansen dropped short, Gill punched easily past cover before bringing out the short-arm jab through mid-wicket with panache to collect a brace of fours. Gill’s timing continued to be top-notch when he superbly placed the pull off Nortje wide of mid-wicket for four.
But a mix-up on the first ball of the seventh over saw Dhawan being run-out for eight. Ishan Kishan brought out ferocious fours through point and square leg, before Fortuin got one to turn in and take a thin edge behind to keeper.
Iyer joined the boundary-hitting party by smashing Fortuin for a brace of powerful fours hit straight down the ground. Gill hit two more fours, including a crunchy drive through the gap at extra cover, while Iyer ramped wide of keeper to collect another four and put India on the verge of series win.
Though Gill was trapped lbw by Ngidi, Iyer finished off the chase in style with a six slammed down the ground to clinch a series win for India.
Brief scores: South Africa 99 all out in 27.1 overs (Heinrich Klassen 34, Janneman Malan 15; Kuldeep Yadav 4-18, Washington Sundar 215) lost to India 105/3 in 19.1 overs (Shubman Gill 49, Shreyas Iyer 28 not out, Bjorn Fortuin 1-20, Lungi Ngidi 1-21) by seven wickets.

DAVID BECKHAM WANTS CRISTIANO
RONALDO AT INTER MIAMI- REPORT
Despite the fact Manchester United’s new head coach Erik ten Hag insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is in part of his plans, the 37-yearold is not able to find a place in his system which is based on mobility and pressing. Ronaldo had just one premier league start this season. Ronaldo has been trying to make a move away from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window but had failed to do so.
The Portuguese captain is now banking on the Qatar World Cup to showcase his talents to Champions League clubs.
However, if reports to be believed, Inter Miami are considering making a bid for Ronaldo, who Old Trafford insiders claim would “seriously consider” a move to the US.
As per several media reports David Beckham, who owns MLS side Inter Miami is in direct contact with Cristiano Ronaldo to try to convince him to join his side in 2023.

Sharma's compatriot Jemimah Rodrigues has made some notable gains in the list as she has jumped ahead of Shafali Verma and New Zealand legend Suzie Bates. Rodrigues has secured the sixth spot for herself. Jemimah, the Mumbai-based batter scored a gritty 75* off just 45 balls against Bangladesh and a 24-ball 35* against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup.
USMAN KHAWAJA CALLS FOR ODI CRICKET TO BE REDUCED TO 40 OVERS
Keeping in mind the popularity of T20 cricket, Usman Khawaja feels that the ODI format should be reduced to 40-overs-a-side in order to make it more relevant and interesting.
"50 overs is just that little bit too long now. Take out that little middle bit, you'd get to 25 overs and you'd look up and 'o h crap, there are only 15 overs left, let's go again'," he told ABC Sport.
Having enjoyed 40-over games in England Cricket Board's 40 league, Khawaja feels a reduction in overs is the right way to go.
"So you don't have that little lull. That's my only objection to one-day cricket." Leg-spinner Zampa agreed with Khawaja's observation, saying a few adjustments can make 50-over cricket relevant again, with the ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in India next year.
"(They) either need to be scrapped or something needs to be done with them," Zampa said.
"Bonuses or extra free hits or something, make it a bit more interesting," he suggested.
Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar said 50 overs was "just enough time to do enough".
"Ten overs is a lovely amount of bowling time, 50 overs is a good time to bat; it gives guys down the order a bit of time if a few wickets have fallen," said Agar, who represented Australia in 46 T20Is and 18 ODIs.
"I think people get frustrated that maybe it takes a bit too long, but I think that's just because of the advent of T20 cricket. I like ODI cricket." Wicketkeeper Alex Carey said, "there's still lots of room in the game for one-day cricket for sure".
England opener Alex Hales is enjoying his comeback. After spending three years in wilderness—after positive drug test in 2019 that led Eoin Morgan to banishing him from England’s white-ball setup—he was picked for the seven-match series against Pakistan and hammered a 51-ball 84 against Australia in Perth. It was his superior record in BBL—– where he has scored 1,857 runs in 60 matches in six seasons at a strike rate of 151.34—that prompted the selectors to consider him after regular opener Jonny Bairstow was injured last month. And he reposed their faith by smacking 51-ball eighty four against Australia in Perth.
DEEPTI SHARMA GETS BACK CAREER-BEST THIRD RANK AMONG T20 BOWLERS
India’s Deepti Sharma on Tuesday jumped three places to reclaim career-best third position in the Women’s T20I bowlers rankings list and also touched the same rank in the all-rounders chart. Sharma gained ranking points, riding on some fine performances in the ongoing Asia Cup in Sylhet, Bangladesh. She grabbed three wickets against Pakistan and two each against Bangladesh and Thailand, overtaking South Africa fast bowler Shabnim Ismail and now only trails England spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn. She had first achieved third rank in bowlers list in November 2019.
ICC REPRIMANDS AARON FINCH FOR USE OF ‘AUDIBLE OBSCENITY’
Australia captain Aaron Finch found himself in the middle of a stump microphone controversy days before the start of the T20 World Cup as he was reprimanded by the ICC for use of “audible obscenity”. The incident occurred in the ninth over of England innings in Australia’s three-match T20I series opener here on Sunday, when the 35-year-old lost his cool, swearing in at on-field umpires Sam Nogajski and Donovan Koch following a caught-behind appeal. Finch was found to have breached Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “use of an audible obscenity during an International Match.” The Aussie skipper, however, escaped a fine because it was his first offence in a 24-month period, but the ICC has added “one demerit point to Finch’s disciplinary record.”

From dementia to altering brain structure in kids, from sudden heart attacks to autism risk -- the health impact of long-term exposure to air pollution is not just respiratory illnesses, as several new studies have documented this year alone. These new investigations raise a fresh alarm for the governments and agencies in India to fast-track their efforts to safeguard the population from air pollution. Exposure to above-average levels of outdoor air pollution increases the risk of death by 20 per cent, and the risk of death from cardiovascular disease by 17 per cent, according to a team of researchers, including one of Indian origin. The study, published in the journal 'PLOS ONE' in June, showed that using wood or kerosene-burning stoves, not properly ventilated through a chimney, to cook food or heat the home also increases the overall risk of death (by 23 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively) and cardiovascular death risk (by 36 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively). "Our study highlights the role that key environmental factors of indoor/outdoor air pollution, access to modern health services, and proximity to noisy, polluted roadways play in all causes of death, and deaths from cardiovascular disease in particular," said researcher Rajesh Vedanthan from NYU Langone Health.

ESSENTIAL WINTER SKINCARE TIPS YOU MUST FOLLOW
When it comes to skincare, choosing from a plethora of products can feel downright confusing. Picking just one from rows of cleansers, toners, scrubs, moisturizers, and serums can appear a daunting task. While you spend time checking out one product after the other, the question remains the same - which skincare product is right for you?
Well, the answer depends upon the type of skin one possesses and the season of the year. While skin types can be broadly classified in dry, oily, combination, acne-prone, and sensitive, the basic skincare routines throughout the season stay the same. Just a few adjustments and you`re sorted.
Dolly Kumar, Cosmetic Engineer and Founder & Director at Cosmic Nutracos Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the parent company to skincare brand Skinella shares her skincare guide for all skin types.
Cleansing: Cleansing your skin is the first step for any skincare routine, as it will remove any makeup, dirt, excess oils, and build-up on your skin. Double cleansing has become quite popular recently, where you use an oil-based cleanser to break down any makeup on your skin followed by foam or gel cleanser to remove everything. Those with dry skin should try not to go overboard as it can rip your skin of natural oils when using a hard cleanser.
Toning: Toner helps achieve the skin`s pH balance. You can either spritz a mild toner on your face or take a small amount on a cotton pad and swipe it all over the face. A good toner tightens pores over regular use and lends an enviable glow to your skin.
Exfoliation: Using an exfoliator once or twice a week will help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin looking brighter. If you have
sensitive skin, a very gentle exfoliation such as a lower percentage glycolic acid would be best suited. However, don`t scrub your skin too hard or too often with an exfoliator as this can damage your skin.
Moisturising: The job of the moisturiser is to aid in hydrating and softening the skin. More specifically, finding the right formula is key here. It must nourish and restore your skin efficiently without leaving it feeling greasy or heavy.
SPF: We can`t stress enough how important this step is, because SPF is the single most important treatment for your skin with major benefits, and it`s not just for the summer months. The sooner you start using sunscreen, the better your skin will look and feel in the long run. The UVA and UVB rays of the sun result in ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and of course, skin cancer, which is why wearing sunscreen must be an indispensable part of skincare.
Now that we`ve covered the daily skincare routine, you may be wondering what products to add to your arsenal. This is perhaps the most important part. Although advanced digital technologies and marketing tools are working in the background to influence your purchase decisions, a user must be careful about the kinds of ingredients that go inside these skincare products. This is where you need to be 100 percent sure that the products you choose have no harsh chemicals and contain all-natural ingredients or the power of superfoods. This means choosing skincare products the same way you will choose your platter - healthy, colourful, and nutritious. Instead of just consuming superfoods such as avocado, kale, oats, honey, goji berries, and more, which are packed with antioxidants, why not try applying them in the form of skincare? Using such products
HERE ARE 4 FOODS YOU MUST AVOID GIVING YOUR CHILDREN DURING COLD, FLU SEASON
processed foods are some of the foods you should avoid.
DAIRY PRODUCTS
Dairy products contain animal proteins, which can be harmful to kids during winter and can lead to congestion, which may further deteriorate their condition.
Refrain from giving dairy products such as cheese and cream during winters to avoid the production of mucus.
Also, limit kids' consumption of milk as much as you can. Instead, give them seasonal foods to avoid such problems.
HISTAMINE RICH FOODS
Histamine is a chemical involved in the making and secreting stomach acid.
can protect your skin from the damage caused by free radicals. These radicals cause collagen breakdown, which leads to dull, saggy skin, wrinkles, and skin inflammation - which is one of the main reasons for skin sensitivity and pigmentation issues. So, give your skin the food that it needs to look its best.
Here are a few tips to help you further your skincare routine via some lifestyle changes:
Eat fresh fruits and veggies: Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals, smoking, pollution, and sunlight. These pollutants can cause wrinkling and age spots. To help prevent skin damage, eat a rainbow of colourful fruits and vegetables, and aim for at least five portions a day. Drink plenty of water: Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired, and slightly grey. You should drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Even if you`re working from home, keep a bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Don`t forget that some fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, and cucumber, also contribute fluids - the added benefit is that the minerals they contain will increase the rate you hydrate your body and skin.
Exercise: By getting the heart rate up and improving blood circulation, exercising can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin - a big anti-ageing secret. It keeps your skin healthy and promotes the production of collagen and new skin cells to help you with glowing skin. While you follow this daily routine, it is also equally important to eat well. It`s worth considering the possibility that alkaline foods like fruits, vegetables, raw nuts, and soy do wonders for your skin by providing your body with nutrients that maintain the pH level of your blood.
SKINCARE MYTH BUSTERS
The festive season is around the corner and with that, the need to put your best face forward is more important than ever. With the indulgence of heavy makeup and heavier food, which can impact your skin and lead to acne, it becomes critical to take care of your skin and ensure that you have a flawless glow.
Taking care of your skin often means understanding your skin type, and knowing what ingredients to use to keep acne and blemishes at bay. However, with the internet, and with home remedies being passed down generations, there is no shortage of myths and claims that can damage your skin more than they could help. To help bust some of the common skincare myths, here is a rundown of the dos and don'ts to achieve a beautiful festival-worthy glow.
Myth: Kitchen ingredients for acne control |Fact: Kitchen ingredients won't help with acne control
When kids have flu, the last thing they want to do is eat It's certainly okay to eat a little less with the flu, as children likely have a reduced appetite. Still, they will need to eat small amounts of the right foods to provide them with energy and nutrients while recovering. Picking just one from rows of dry fruits, meats, dairy products or oil can appear a daunting task for some of us. Today, we bring to you some foods that your kids should avoid eating during winters to stay healthy during this season. Let us take a look at the foods which kids should avoid eating during winters.
SUGARY FOODS
Avoid sugary foods to prevent exposing your kids to viral infections. Simple sugar in general, is bad for kids. Too much sugar can reduce white blood cells, which increases the risk of developing infections and other related diseases.
Sodas, chemical beverages, candies, chocolate, cold drinks, and other
However, eating a histamine rich diet in winters can have a negative impact as it can induce the production of mucus, which can lead to health problems and can even make it difficult for your kid to swallow food.
Mayonnaise, dried fruits, mushrooms, vinegar, bananas, spinach, soy sauce, pickles, strawberries, papaya, fermented foods, smoked fish, yogurt, eggplant and foods that contain artificial preservatives should be avoided.
FRIED FOOD AND ITEMS
Deep-fried foods – mostly the ones that are fried in fats and oils derived from animal products – can be a severe problem in kids during winters. Fried food causes thickening of saliva and mucus and may lead to an uneasy feeling.
Such foods are very harmful to your kids and must be avoided from being served to them.
EATING TOGETHER AS A FAMILY CAN IMPROVE YOUR TEEN’S DIET, EVEN IF YOU ALL DON’T GET ALONG
Teenagers and young adults who eat meals with family are healthier. Family meals really do improve teenagers’ diets and put them on a path to healthy eating in later life, says new study.
The researchers found that when families sit down together, adolescents and young adults eat more fruits and veggies and consume fewer fast-food.
“Our research found that family dinners are a great way to improve the dietary intake of the whole family, regardless of how well the family functions together,” said lead researcher Kathryn Walton, post-doctoral researcher at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
“It’s a time when families can slow down from their busy days to talk, spend time together and problem-solve. It’s also a time that parents can model healthful eating behaviours,” Walton added.
The study, published in the journal JAMA Network Open, found that preparing and enjoying a meal together can also help families bond and the meal does not have to be a big drawn-out affair.
“Even if it’s something you pull out of the freezer, add a bagged salad on the side and you’ll have a decent nutritional meal,” said Jess Haines, Professor from the University of Guelph in Canada. Walton said many teenaged and young adults living at home are busy with evening extracurricular activities or part-time jobs, making it hard to find time for dinner with family members. But finding that time once a day -- even if it’s breakfast together -- can be just as effective, the researcher said. For the study, the team looked at more than 2,700 participants, 14 to 24 years of age.
Acne? Go for chickpeas! Blackheads? Try some green tea. Dark Spots? Haldi your way to a beautiful glow! In Indian households, it seems like every single ingredient can be used to tackle certain skincare concerns. Through the years, we have all been told to puree certain fruits and veggies and apply them to our faces, claiming they will act as a magic elixir to clear up our skin and bid our woes farewell. However, the reality of this is far from ideal. While certain ingredients can prove to be beneficial for your skin, the fruits and veggies in your kitchen are likely to have very small quantities of these beneficial ingredients, and not enough to properly take care of your skincare concerns. Moreover, the fruits and vegetables need to be clean and free from any kind of pesticides and additives, which are often hard to remove with regular washing.
Myth: Drinking enough water is enough to hydrate your skin | Fact: Simply drinking water is not enough to keep your skin hydrated Dry skin is one of the most common skincare concerns, and there is no shortage of remedies that people often claim to work to relieve dry skin. Celebrities and makeup influencers often publicize that drinking enough water can help clear up the skin, but the reality is not as simple. Dryness is often caused by the skin's inability to retain water, mainly due to a weakened skin barrier. However, drinking copious amounts of water won't help the skin retain the water better. The hydration element needs to come in from a topical application, most easily achieved through the use of moisturizers.
Myth: Natural products without chemicals are good for your skin |
Fact: Chemicals can help tackle skincare concerns better than natural ingredients
One of the biggest myths prevalent in the skincare and beauty industry is that chemicals are innately bad for your skin, and the only approach for clear skin is to use natural ingredients. Chemicals used in skin care products are specifically designed to penetrate the skin layer and can help tackle some of the skincare issues from the root. In most instances, science-based skincare can help you achieve faster results as compared to any other form of remedy.
When using chemical-based skincare products, the most important step is to research the ingredients being used to properly understand them and know what you should be using for your skin. Brands that offer science-based skincare encourage their customers to read through the different activities being used so that they can choose the product that perfectly fits their concerns.

REAL CANCER CASES UP TO 3 TIMES HIGHER THAN REPORTED IN INDIA
Real cancer incidence level in India is estimated to be 1.5 to three times higher than reported incidence as 51 per cent patients take more than a week to conclude diagnosis while 46 per cent take second opinion due to lack of confidence in initial diagnosis and sugg ested treatment, a report showed on Tuesday. The reported cancer incidence in India this year is estimated to be 19 to 20 lakh, whereas real incidence is 1.5 to 3 times higher than the reported cases, according to a study by FICCI and EY titled "Call for Action: Makin g quality cancer care more accessible and affordable in India". India is faced with a sizable cancer incidence burden, which continues to grow exponentially. The 2020 WHO ranking on cancer burden in terms of new yearly cases being reported had ranked India at the third position after China and the US, respectively. "For cancer prevention, early diagnosis and widespread public awareness will be integral and will serve as a beacon of light to strengthen India's strategy for cancer care and other noncommunicable diseases," said Ashok Kakkar, Chair, FICCI Task Force on Cancer Care. "While some of the most cutting-edge cancer treatment methods and technology are available in our country, we still have a long way to go before we can ensure that cancer patients from every socioeconomic background receive the best possible care," added Kakkar, also Managing Director, Varian Medical Systems International India Pvt Ltd. Cancer disease burden in India is characterized by poor detection with not more th an 29 per cent, 15 per cent and 33 per cent of breast lung and cervical cancers being diagnosed in stages 1 and 2, respectively. T he cancer of the head and neck are found to be progressing at a CAGR of 23 per cent, prostate cancer at 19 per cent, ovarian cance r at 11 per cent and breast cancer at 8 per ce nt, which is faster than the overall growth rate of incidence. Six states, which represent 18 per cent of India's population, have 23 per cent share of the country's reported incidence burden and have the highest crude incidence rates. Kerala, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, and Assam report the highest overall crude incidence rates of cancers wh ich is greater than 130 cases per lakh population, the report mentioned. Estimates indicate that the total deaths owing to cancer were 8 to 9 lakh in 2020, causing the mor tality to incidence ratio for different cancer types in India to be among the poorest compared to global counterparts. "To address the dual challenge of rising incidence and sub-optimal mortality to incidence ratio, it is imperative to drive mass awareness campaigns, focus on effective prevention and enable improved screening coverage as a primary response,a said Srimayee Chakraborty, Life Sciences Partner, EY India.

5G-READY CAR SALES CROSS 500K FIRST TIME EVER GLOBALLY

According to the report, automakers are focusing on using powerful on-board computers for next-generation connected mobility.
"4G cars still dominate the global connected car market, capturing 90 per cent of shi pments in Q2 2022, whereas 5G cars accounted for around 7 per cent. Although 5G's share will continue to increase, 4G will see increased sales on a yearly basis until 2027," said Research Vice-President Peter Richardson.
Non-connected cars have been steadily declining as automakers prefer to upgrade their portfolio with factory-fitted embedded connectivity even in base model variants.
Luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes and Audi were the first to introduce connected cars with inbuilt Wi-Fi, even before the initial push towards connected vehicles came from gove rnment mandates like eCall.
According to the report, there are several factors hindering the proliferation of 5G for cars, such as high prices of 5G NAD/TCU, and patchy network coverage even where 5G has been launched which, in turn, means limited availability of 5G capable cars. Furthermore, there is only nascent adoption of ADAS/AD levels. Currently, there are few Level 3 capable models and all use 4G. "We expect that mass adoption of 5G connectivity will only occur after 2025, when most of these is sues will have been resolved,a said Richardson.
