HOW ARE RELATIONS BETWEEN CANADA & INDIA SUFFERING OVER KHALISTAN?
MOTIVE BEHIND KILLING OF PUNJABI FAMILY IN US?
India has taken strong exception to the Justin Trudeau administration not taking adequate steps to curb anti-India activities in Canada. India's External Affairs Minister has made it clear that New Delhi has taken up the issue of extremist violence and anti-India activities in Canada with the Trudeau government, and is not satisfied with the response from Ottawa. Jaishankar while replying to a journalist in Canberra, Australia recently said that Canada should not allow freedom of expression to be misused by antiIndia forces preaching violence and bigotry. India has served a demarche to the Justin Trudeau government asking it to bridle forces behind the so-called Khalistan referendum. The second leg of the referendum is slated to be held in Mississauga, Ontario on November 6. Canada in response to a note verbale issued by India has said it "will not recognize the so-called referendum" organized by the Sikhs for Justice but at the same time cited its lack of jurisdiction to instruct the municipal authorities of the city of Brampton and Mississauga not to allow the use of public properties for holding an anti-India referendum. Y Media's request for comment has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but no response has yet been received.
Jesus Salgado, the 48 year-old involved in the kidnapping and killing of a punjabi family, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, one for each life lost, the Merced County Sheriff's Office said. Salgado was booked for kidnapping and murdering four members of an Indian-origin family, including an eight-month-old child, in California on October 3, and was sent to the county jail on October 6. The Merced County district attorney's office said in a news release that it would not make a determination this year on whether to pursue the death penalty in the case of Jesus Manuel Salgado, the Los Angeles Times reported. Salgado is said to have had a long-standing feud with the family and was a former employee in their trucking business. In a mindless act of revenge, Salgado murdered the family. Salgado is currently undergoing medical treatment after he attempted to kill himself before officials arrived to arrest him on October 4. Relatives of the family told investigators that Salgado had sent angry text messages or e-mails about a year ago after working with the trucking business, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said. He was also arrested 17 years ago for robbing a family he then used to work for, according to the California Depar tment of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Salgado's younger brother Alberto Salgado, 41, was also taken into custody last week and has been accused of criminal conspiracy, accessory, and destroying evidence. I CONTD. ON PAGE 11
