LETTER FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

Greetings Warrior Families!

My name is Kristina Cammarano and I just joined Midland University as the new Vice President for Student Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer. I have the privilege of providing the welcome for this quarter’s family newsletter which is full of highlights and so many things to celebrate from the Spring semester.

As you welcome students back home for the summer, I hope you all are able to find some time to connect together around their accomplishments and learnings from this past semester and year. Each year, the summer represents the achievement of making it one step closer to the goal of graduation. And for those families who are celebrating students reaching the goal of graduation, congratulations.

Here are some important things that occur during the summer here at Midland: • First year students transitioning into their second year will receive communications from their new program specific advisor.

• All students will receive some light email and text communications just to check-in on how they are doing over the summer.

• New Student Registration will begin for our newest class of Midland Warriors.

• Facility maintenance and improvement projects begin.

• Staff and Faculty continue to plan and build out exciting new opportunities and programs for our students.

Throughout the summer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us here at Midland as questions come up or if you need any assistance.

on Leadership The Midland University Honors Program team earned multiple awards at the Washburn University Leadership Challenge Event March 3-4 in Topeka, Kansas.

Ten universities from five states took part in the event, which featured a competition where students practiced leadership skills they would use when navigating challenges in the real world. This year’s competition focused on an environmental disaster caused by a wastewater leak at a manufacturing plant. Students participated in a live press conference, answered emails, addressed concerns through live role-plays, and researched the short and long-term implications of an environmental crisis.

A group of Midland University PBL students brought home some hardware from the Nebraska PBL State Leadership Conference on April 10-11 in Kearney.

Students competed in multiple events with other PBL members from institutions across the state. The competitive events covered a wide range of business-related subjects and included objective exams and performance and production events.

Six students from Midland participated, and each brought home at least one top-five finish. All six students qualified for the PBL National Leadership Conference, which will be held June 24-27 in Chicago.

In April we honored over 30 students, faculty, and campus organizations for their excellence and accomplishments over the past year. We are proud of the Warriors who have excelled in the classroom and made amazing contributions to the Midland community, and beyond.

RECENT WARRIOR WINS powerlifting For the third-consecutive time, Midland University swept all four team titles at the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals! The Warriors had 14 individual champions, and 10 runner-up titles. The Warriors won both women's disciplines, raw and equipped, in dominant style. On the men's side, they won the raw division by a comfortable margin and then edged out a team win in the equipped by way of a tie-breaker.

Tennis For the first time in modern history, Midland University women's tennis team is headed to the NAIA National Championship.

For the third time in four seasons, Midland University's men's tennis program is champions of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

The Warriors battled their way through the bracket as the top-seed, winning their semifinal matchup with Morningside University (4-0) on Friday, and then defeated second-seeded Doane University (4-0) on Saturday.

The mens team victories run their season dual record to 20-4, a new modern record for the program.

As GPAC Champions, Midland has earned an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama. The Warriors will compete against other schools from around the country on May 17-21 at the Mobile Tennis Center.

If your student completed the application to live on campus, they should have attended the Housing Renewal event to sign their contract and lock in their spot. They also received an email that confirmed their housing assignment, roommate(s), and included their move-in date.

Once your student has submitted their Housing Contract, any changes or withdrawals after May 15, 2022, will result in a $500 contract breakage fee.

If your student is planning to live off-campus, please note that they must meet one of the following criteria: Age 21 or older by August 30 Married Have a dependent (such as a child) living with them Have completed four semesters of on-campus living either at Midland or a previous institution Will be living with legal guardians who resides within a 30 mile radius of campus If your student wishes to live off-campus, they must fill out an annual off-campus request form, available on my.midlandu.edu or by selecting here. There will be estimated housing and meal plan charges until the forms are turned in and approved.

Tips from the Career Studio Summer is the perfect time for your student to ramp up their professional growth and online presence! Here are ways to encourage and guide your student: Did your student complete a group project, research project or internship last semester? Adding these career-relevant projects and experiences to a resume shows employers hands on learning and development of the skills they want and need. Focus on any employment or volunteer experiences you are having over the summer. What skills will you gain that you can add to your resume? Pro Tip- Think of something you would like to have on your resume that would relate to your future career goals and work on being able to add that.
