Woodend golfers are urging action to bring their dilapidated clubhouse up to building code or for demolition to rebuild.

Last year, Macedon Ranges Shire Council set aside $200,000 to bring facilities up to scratch but members report little movement.

"We haven't seen any evidence of that money being

spent," Woodend Golf Club secretary, Barney Hearnden said.

"The clubhouse still remains in a very dangerous and unsatisfactory state. There's rising damp, there's mould, the boards between the kitchen area and the outside are rotten and rats and other vermin are free to come in because we can't block that up."

Adding to the list were rundown bathroom facilities and decommissioned ovens, reducing ability to host functions.

Mr Hearnden said the club also had major concerns about safety around access points and the lack of disability access, which created challenges and barriers for some users.

"We want a facility that is safe and usable for our members. We'd hate to see somebody injured," he said.

"A number of elderly members have fallen and it's only a matter time before someone has a significant injury."

Cobaw Forest closed

Forest Fire Management Victoria has closed the Cobaw State Forest due to storm damage.

Loddon Mallee deputy chief fire officer Scott Falconer said the forest would be closed until June 30 as a result of extensive storm and wind damage across this area.

"We are asking people to please avoid visiting the forest until it is safe to do so," Mr Falconer said.

“Damaging winds and heavy rainfall have caused several fallen trees and debris to block roads and tracks along with other hazards.

“Our crews are still assessing the extent of damage across public land in the Macedon area to make sure it is safe for the public to access.

“For your own safety, we are asking you to adhere to signs and stay out of the forest until these dangers

A two-week program of essential maintenance and renewal works will be undertaken on the Bendigo rail line over the July school holidays.

Crews will work around the clock to complete improvements as part of V/Line’s annual program of major improvement works, which is vital to the ongoing upkeep of the line.

On the tracks between Bendigo and Sunbury, work will focus on infrastructure, including track upgrades through the Elphinstone tunnel and a renewal of the track that connects two lines near Bendigo Station.

In the Macedon forest, crews will replace rail, reducing the risk of the rail cracking when exposed to rapid changes in temperature.

Coaches will replace all Bendigo trains for the entire journey from Sunday June 27 to Sunday July 11 to allow the works to be completed, with train services resuming in time for students to return to school.

Once services return there will be a timetable change that sees a morning train from Eaglehawk to Southern Cross make a stop at Sunbury, providing a more convenient option for Macedon Ranges students to get to schools in the area.

A temporary coach replacement timetable will be available on the V/Line website closer to the start of works, so passengers can plan their journey with confidence. The website also has more information on the timetable change coming into place after the works.

Macedon Ranges is expected to face repercussions from June's destructive storm for the next month as initial clean-up continues.

Woodend SES unit controller Kevin McNair warned "the bulk of the storm is over but the event has not ended".

The Woodend unit responded to almost 600 calls for storm assistance - doubling its yearly average in a week.

On Thursday, Mr McNair told the Express volunteers were still responding to between eight and 15 jobs daily.

"Even now that we are past the extreme conditions we have been confronted by so many unstable trees," he said.

Woodend SES worked to clear trees that had blocked ambulances in both Rochford and Trentham, among the many callouts.

From Wednesday to Sunday, Gisborne SES reported 154 requests for assistance including one request with 14 trees down in Mount Macedon.

The unit also backed the Woodend SES crew on several jobs.

"There were winds of 100km/h during the height of the storm and it has damaged the root systems of many trees. There were times when it was simply too dangerous out on the road," Mr McNair said.

"We will be facing repercussions of this event for the next month."

On Friday afternoon, Gisborne SES members worked to free a horse that became trapped between trees that had fallen in the storm.

The horse, named Jerico, was given a mild sedative had his eyes covered and was supervised by a vet throughout the rescue.

SES members used a battery operated (almost silent) chainsaw to cut away the branches and Jerico walked out unharmed.

Last week, Woodend crews spent four hours on a job in Spring Hill where trees had blocked a driveway and damaged the roof of a house.

Mr McNair urged residents to check around their homes for signs of damage, particularly to the roof, and to report unstable trees.

"People may not notice damage until it rains and by that point it can really create a lot of damage," he said.

Macedon Ranges SES units thanked the multiple agencies involved in the storm recovery efforts including Victoria Police, CFA including the District 20 Strike Team, Fire Rescue Victoria, Forest Fire Management Victoria, DELWP and Powercor.

Local community response partners included neighbourhood houses and Macedon Ranges Shire Council.

Lancefield and Romsey communities are rallying to develop a network of neighbourhood connections in the wake of this month's ravaging storms.

Neighbourhood Houses in both towns were among the first to assist during the mass power outages that spanned up to six days for some residents.

Lancefield NH coordinator Vivien Philpotts told the Express community connection and basic back-up community facilities were seen as vital.

"There are concerns that if this were to happen again, we aren't prepared," Ms Philpotts said.

"We ran drop-in community sessions on Thursday as a preliminary step and an opportunity to pull together some ideas."

A community mapping project, call register list, accredited chainsaw classes and a community emergency resilience plan and committee are among the ideas to emerge.

The Neighbourhood Houses will hold a storm photo exhibition to start the conversation on these subjects.

Mr Philpotts said Lancefield NH will also consider upgrades to its kitchen facilities to be fitted with generators or gas connection.

"We're working to get quotes as soon as possible," she said.

"We hope that it will mean in the event of another power outage we will be able to provide a heated space and power source for people in need."

During the power outage, Neighbourhood House volunteers worked to deliver hot soup and hot water bottles to homes in the area.

Volunteers were in the process of organising remote power charge stations and showers when power returned to the main townships.

Community park showers were opened to those who were still awaiting power connection.

Following the June 9 storm that caused widespread power outages, property damage and blocked roads right across the local State Emergency Service district, Woodend SES unit controller Kevin McNair and his team of volunteers are calling on members of the public to consider joining their ranks.

The unit is planning a series of events and appearances in the coming weeks to allow interested residents to discover how volunteering might work for them, what is involved, and the training opportunities on offer.

SES volunteers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and bring different skill levels and skill-sets to the role, so all applicants are welcome.

“We saw during these very strong storms how the SES prepares our volunteers for tough situations, and we hope that by growing our numbers further, we’ll be able to respond even faster to future requests for assistance, and do even more for affected members of the community to get back to normal as soon as they can,” Mr McNair said.

“The community spirit, culture and camaraderie of SES is something that all of our volunteers value highly, together with the satisfaction of doing good works for our communities when it’s needed.”

The first event planned will be an open day at Woodend SES unit, next to the CFA station on Urquhart Street, Woodend on July 3 from 10am to 2pm. In early October 2001, an Australian warship, HMAS Adelaide, intercepted a vessel in distress some 200 kilometres north of Christmas Island. It was carrying more than 200 refugees.

The government of the day, led by then Prime Minister John Howard, claimed children had been thrown overboard in a bid to persuade the warship to stop and render assistance. An investigation by a Select Committee of the Australian Senate found the claim to be false.

There was widespread suspicion the accusation had been made to discredit refugees and assist in the re-election of the Howard government.

A sense of outrage over the Children Overboard affair, together with the infamous Tampa incident, prompted Woodend resident Geoff Hildebrandt and his wife Rosie Baker to help establish Macedon Ranges Rural Australians for Refugees.

Over the years, together with like-minded friends, they have lobbied members of parliament, run education programs in schools, organised food and furniture collections and provided financial and emo-

Communication breakdown?

Residents cut off from power and telecommunications for days in June's storm are questioning Macedon Ranges Shire Council's communications with residents in emergency.

Web, social media and phone proved ineffective means of communication for thousands of residents cut from power for between one to six days.

"We were cut off from power and running water for six days and we were not aware of anything that may have been available to us like showers or charging stations," one resident told the Express.

"A knock at the door would have been nice. We were stuck with nothing and we weren't the only ones - where was the advice? Where was the relief centre?"

Throughout the event, the council had opened temporary shower facilities in Woodend at Gilbert Gordon Oval, Kyneton Showgrounds, Romsey Park, and shared information about showers opened at Lancefield Park.

Power was made available for people at council facilities such as libraries, aquatic centres and visitor information centres; libraries ran on extended hours to provide additional time for people to access power.

But distributing this information proved a challenge.

The council told the Express that initial storm communications were through web and

social media. As the event progressed updates were available on ABC radio and mayor Jennifer Anderson was interviewed.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council's chief executive Bernie O’Sullivan said a printed newsletter was also created and SES crews provided these to residents as they completed their response duties.

He said council officers contacted community care clients using existing contact details to check-in with isolated and vulnerable people at the beginning of and during the storm event to understand what support they may have required.

"Early on there were widespread power outages including to council buildings and facilities," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"In the response part of the incident the focus is on protecting people from harm.

SES Victoria, as the designated control agency, focused on this and council worked with and supported the SES. "The initial focus was to clear the roads for emergency services and the power company to get access to locations and to ensure that the vulnerable people in our community were okay."

No relief centres The council made the decision not to operate a relief centre in response to the storms, citing other ways it could assist the community.

"Council relief centres are operated in partnership with other relief agencies whose resources were already stretched responding to immediate needs on the ground," he said.

"The community reported needing four things: shower facilities, heating, power for charging phones and food. The council was able to make available shower facilities in multiple locations, providing affected residents the opportunity for a warm shower and access to power."

While Hepburn Shire opened a relief centre in Trentham, at the time residents were advised not to drink their tap water and were cut off from main roads

due to fallen trees.

"Each incident is different, after completing response activities there is a debrief and a lessons-learnt process that may result in updates to the emergency management plan. This will occur with this incident," Mr O'Sullivan said.

Mr O'Sullivan said tree debris clean-up on roads, in parks and in public areas was estimated to take four to six weeks at earliest.

"At the moment our teams are working on a priority basis and focusing on clearing roads to ensure emergency services and service providers can access all areas to address people safety and the reestablishment of services," he said.

"The clean-up of parks, reserves and roadsides will take longer so please be patient and stay safe."

Widespread destruction

Powercor crews responded to more than 400 faults and more than 250 fallen wires in an effort to restore power to more than 120,000 customers following the storm.

The hardest hit areas were Kyneton, Trentham, Woodend, Mount Macedon, Daylesford, Ballarat and Gisborne.

Local Powercor construction project leader Andrew McArdle described the extreme weather event as the worst he'd seen in his 30 years on the job.

"Just the widespread destruction and the number of trees down, we didn't realise the extent of the damage across the district until we started patrolling lines out there," he told the Express.

"It was pretty freaky being out there the night of the storm, at one stage we were cutting a tree off a strategic line that had to be cleared and you could hear massive cracks and a tree would come down.

"Conditions were treacherous and really dangerous.

"We mobilised everyone out of Kyneton but we were chasing our tails because we lost the whole district from Blackwood to Tooborac, South Gisborne to Taradale ... the only town that remained on was Riddells Creek.

"At the height of the repairs we had 170 linesmen out across the district."

Following the severe weather and storm event last week, the Wombat State Forest, the northern part of Lerderderg State Park, Macedon Regional Park and Trentham Falls remain closed to the public.

Forest Fire Management Victoria crews have been working hard over the past week to access impacted areas and assess damage to roads, recreational sites and the natural environment.

More than 150 roads and tracks across the Wombat State Forest and Lerderderg State Park remain closed, including larger roads such as Firth Road, Bunding–Blakeville Road, North Blackwood Road and Lerderderg Road.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 23 years ago, club member Paul Stuart said access could be a huge barrier for people with disabilities.

Determined to stay socially connected and active, Mr Stuart advocated for improvements.

"Being a part of this golf club provides me with a Men's Shed experience," he told councillors.

"The last four years have become increasingly difficult, particularly from a mobility point of view for me.

"While I'm unable to play the game that I enjoyed so much [previously], camaraderie and friendship over the years and my association with this club has made my life more meaningful and provides something to look forward to each and every week."

The club had grown its membership from 120 to 260 in the past year, despite COVID challenges, and increased junior clinics to 40 players.

With a huge wish list, Mr Hearnden said the club was open to discussing other options with the council, including a full demolition and rebuild.

"The committee's position is that we're not wedded to the building as it is," he said.

"We can take our history with us if there is a new building. Our history is in honour boards and trophies. We'd like to see options."

The club stated it was willing to contribute to the cost of works but hoped for a further boost in the council's upcoming budget.

On Friday, Macedon Ranges Shire Council confirmed $138,050 had been carried forward into the next budget for maintenance works to continue.

"The council has engaged an architect and work will begin to scope, design and plan the works required to keep the facility safe and operational in the short term," a spokesperson said.

"A portion of the carried-forward budget is to be allocated to assess whether the building is financially sustainable to repair or whether replacement is the better use of the community's money."

The council will consult with the club on the future of the building and determining the best option. Council officers have scheduled a meeting with the architect at the beginning of July.

Eve Lamb Afro-Latin dance teacher Castlemaine's Camila Serrano is among country-dwelling Victorians set to feature on new ABC TV series Movin' to the Country.

Originally from Colombia, Camila moved to Australia in 2009 and lived in Melbourne before three years later making her treechange to Castlemaine where her dance and fitness classes have since taken off. Camila's decision to make Castlemaine her home and start offering dance classes including Cuban salsa, West African dance with live drumming, and Afro-Colombian dance, has significantly enhanced the palette of cultural and fitness offerings available for local residents.

It's also made the Colombian expat well suited for inclusion in the new television series that's set to start Friday, July 2 at 7.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.

The ABC's publicity for the program states that Movin’ to the Country "celebrates the entrepreneurs, innovators and dreamers who are transforming the look and feel of Australia’s beautiful regional areas in surprising new ways".

The six-part series introduces inspiring people who’ve lived in regional Australia their whole lives, returned to the country, or made the decision to pack up their city lives to make a difference in regional towns.

"It was an opportunity to start a dance school," Camila says of her Castlemaine treechange about nine years ago.

Camila learnt to dance and perf rform f in public as a child in Colombia, before moving to New York and then Australia and ultimately settling in Castlemaine.

"I'm very thankful to have created my dance school in Castlemaine," she told the Express.

"Sometimes when you are in a small town it's easier to start a business."

ABC's Movin’ to the Country sets out to showcase the beauty and livability that regional Australia has to offer, with hosts Craig Quartermaine, Kristy O’Brien and Halina Baczkowski travelling to a different region every week to tell the stories of folk looking to make a good living from their little patch of paradise.

Each episode will explore three stories within one region to discover how people are creating new lifestyles for themselves and how their success has cascading effects in their community.

The episode featuring Camila is scheduled for July 16.

Councillors have pitched their support behind a call from Yapeen residents to lower the speed limit on the Vaughan Springs Road at the increasingly popular lifestyle locality.

At last week's June meeting Mount Alexander Shire Council unanimously endorsed the local residents' call, agreeing that the current 100km/h speed limit on the winding Vaughan Springs Road should be reduced for safety reasons.

In April the council received a petition from residents regarding lowering the current 100km/h limit with petitioners particularly keen to see the limit dropped to 60km/h on the stretch of concern.

The area of particular concern to the petitioners extends for 1.8 kilometres with 30 occupied homes directly fronting the road or in close proximity and with their main entrance off the roadway.

The petition to the council contained 75 individually signed letters with many of the local residents on the road becoming

increasingly concerned about the expanding number of young families moving onto the scenic stretch, which also attracts a lot of visitor traffic and has been described as a "rubber-necking" hazard by those residing there.

The council's unanimous decision to support the residents will now see council officers prepare a submission to the Department of Transport supporting the petitioners' request - but it will then be up to the department as to whether the request succeeds.

At Tuesday evening's council meeting, Cr Matthew Driscoll moved in favour of supporting the petitioners' call to lower the speed limit on the road, which is also a cyclist training route.

"Council officers are on the same page as the petitioners but it now depends on what the department does," Cr Driscoll said.

Cr Christine Henderson seconded the unopposed motion to support the petitioners' calls.

"I think it's well overdue," Cr Henderson told the meeting.

"If we get 80 km per hour it's better than nothing but I certainly think it should be 60."

Twenty-three separate crown allotments will be consolidated into one 14.2-hectare lot as part of a newly approved residential development at Fryerstown.

At last week's June council meeting, Mount Alexander Shire councillors voted in favour of granting a permit enabling a single dwelling to be built at 854 Vaughan-Chewton Road, Fryerstown.

Situated within the farming zone, the proposed build drew seven objections mainly concerned with the proposal being contrary to the objectives of farm zoning provisions.

Concerns raised by objectors included increased threat of bushfire as a result of the buildings on the land, safety and traffic issues associated with the new access to Vaughan-Chewton Road, inappropriate dwelling design and lack of consideration of Aboriginal cultural heritage, environmental and landscape impacts.

But at last week's meeting the council heard that the dwelling would not result in the loss or fragmentation of productive agricultural land as the 23 parcels were to be consolidated to ensure no further dwellings could occur.

The farming zone allows consideration of

a dwelling on land less than 40ha, subject to a planning permit with the application required to be assessed on its planning merits.

After doing so, Cr Stephen Gardner moved that a permit be granted with Cr Gary McClure seconding the motion.

"I love the design of the house. It think it's suitable for where it's proposed," Cr McClure said in support.

Cr Christine Henderson said she was happy to see that a shed that had originally been proposed as part of the development had been dropped from the plan.

"That for me would have been a deal breaker," Cr Henderson said, outlining her concern about where the shed had been proposed to be situated on site.

"The consolidation of the 23 lots into one means that in many ways this is a better outcome for the local community than it might have been.

"They are getting a house stuck on a hill."

Cr Rosie Annear considered the proposed build "relatively unobtrusive".

"I hope the applicant does live there with their family and doesn't run it as an Airbnb," Cr Annear also commented.

When it came to the vote, no councillor objected to granting the permit with Cr Bill Maltby declaring a conflict of interest and absenting himself.

Macedon Ranges skaters have tagged Kyneton Skatepark the worst in the shire and are seeking urgent safety upgrades.

Representing 59 local users, Darren White told Macedon Ranges Shire Council the skatepark was outdated, damaged and in need of an overhaul in the next budget.

"Kyneton has been left hanging - it has the worst facilities in the shire," he told councillors last week.

"We need a safe, functional, innovative skate park that is able to meet the needs of the growing community."

The skatepark, at Kyneton Showgrounds, has outdated steel ramps that reach scalding temperatures in summer and become too slippery for use with any moisture.

Users say Kyneton's prefabricated concrete obstacles are rough and have poor connections due to design deficiencies. They say dangerous large gaps between obstacles have also formed over the years.

Austin on the road to recovery Lisa Dennis

Courageous Castlemaine youngster Austin Vearing has successfully conquered two rounds of surgery in the United States and is now on his road to recovery.

The four-year-old and his family flew to America earlier this month where he underwent life-changing SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) surgery at St Louis Children's Hospital.

Austin's mum Kat and dad Julian said he was incredibly brave going into his first surgery, where his surgeon Dr Park and team removed 65 per cent of the sensory nerve fibres that come from the muscles and enter the spinal cord.

While the surgery isn't a cure for Austin's cerebral palsy, it will reduce spasticity in his body giving him better posture and control, less pain and is expected to enable him to walk independently on all surfaces.

"He had a rough few days following the procedure and was missing his little brother Shelby, but he was soon up and about and beginning his physical therapy," Kat said.

"Thanks to everyone back home for their messages of love and support, it has meant so much."

After being discharged from hospital Austin continued daily outpatient physical therapy sessions and managed to squeeze in an enjoyable trip to the St Louis Aquarium before undertaking a second paediatric orthopaedic surgery last Thursday.

Kat explained that even after having SDR surgery, Austin could not put his left heel on the ground. This was due to shortened muscles from his spasticity.

"The surgery lengthened both hamstrings, and his left calf muscle. It will further support the gains he has and will make from SDR, and make walking and moving so much easier," she said.

Austin had a tough few days following his SDR surgery but is now on the road to recovery.

Austin bounced back much better after his second surgery and, buoyed by improved movement in his left heel, was soon back up and about and beginning therapy on his 'new legs'.

Kat said that while Austin had a long way to go they were amazed by the progress he had made so far. In fact, on day two of his outpatient physical therapy he was walking with a single cane!

"They say it can take three to four weeks for the child to reach pre-surgery strength and mobility levels. It will definitely be one day at a time, one step at a

"Austin is doing an hour of therapy Monday to Friday in the hospital. We’re also doing as much as we can at home, stretching, strengthening and getting him moving as much as we can. Before the Vearings head home they are enjoying as much of St Louis as they can and this will include a special outing for the avid train buff.

"There’s so many fun kid-friendly ac-

tivities here!" Kat said.

"Austin especially wants to go to the Transportation Museum where they have some huge amazing trains, we’re just waiting for him to be a bit stronger so then he can get up into the trains and enjoy it to the fullest. And also a slightly cooler day. It’s very hot and humid here!

"We head home on June 30 and will have to undertake quarantine requirements upon arrival into Australia."

One of the grants will help to restore wetland areas to improve habitat for the rare bright-eyed brown butterfly.

Grants boost biodiversity

Seven projects will share in $23,999 Hepburn Shire biodiversity grants.

Projects include the restoration of wetland areas to improve habitat for butterflies, a fox control project in North Drummond, training in weed control and chemical use, and renewing the biodiversity of Trentham Quarry Street Reserve.

“Biodiversity and environmental protection are high priorities in our shire and these grants support some of the excellent work that our active community groups are undertaking to protect and enhance biodiversity in our shire,” mayor Cr Lesley Hewitt said.

Trentham Public Park and Recreation Reserve Committee of Management will receive $2835 for its Bright Eyed Brown Butterfly Habitat Restoration project.

Malmsbury District Landcare Group will receive $2061 for its MDLG Fox Control Project.

Trentham Quarry Street Reserve Committee of Management will receive $3013 to renew biodiversity of Trentham Quarry Street Reserve.

Hepburn Shire Council has adopted the final concept design plans for the $4.62M Trentham Community Hub, which will include the redevelopment of the Trentham Mechanics Institute.

The centrally located facility will include a library, visitor information centre, council customer service counter, hall and community meeting spaces.

The Victorian Government has committed $3.5M funding towards the project through the Regional Infrastructure Fund and the council will contribute at least $800,000.

“With funding confirmed by the Victorian Government, we're on track to start construction next year,” mayor Cr Lesley Hewitt said.

Fiercely DIY, they run their own label and do it all on their terms.

Doroth is an alternative/pop duo consisting of vocalist/ bassist Loretta Wilde (Rogue Wavs) and drummer Maria Moles (Jaala, Ajak Kwai, On Diamond). Their music is raw and warm, a calm and powerful experience at once.

The songs are mostly formed from instrumental jams, transformed into pop-like structures with room for improvisation. They are a force; Loretta’s intricate bass lines, raw and powerful vocals, tied with Maria’s scattered and punchy rhythms, create a captivating live show.

Festival not swayed by tempest Neither lockdown nor tempest will stop the Woodend Winter Arts Festival from continuing with a reimagined festival this year, and locals are reminded to book tickets for the new dates and not leave it to the last minute!

It’s been a tough few weeks for the Macedon Ranges: initially for businesses and employees affected by the Melbourne lockdown; followed with residents everywhere affected by storms, trees and damage. Well done to the local emergency services and power companies for all their hard work.

“The festival will provide some brightness in winter, just when we need it!” said founder and artistic

director, Jacqueline Ogeil.

“We are keen to create a space for live performance in the arts this year.

Artists and performers everywhere are depending on events like ours to go ahead.

And if there is another lockdown, we will adapt as we have so far done this year.”

The new festival dates are Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11; and Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8. The two weekends provide additional opportunities, with popular events able to be repeated so that no one misses out.

In particular, the new dates allow for local award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Dillon to present

two screenings of his movie, A Little Bit Mongolian, rather than the one that was initially sold out. Three local arts groups have also moved their festival exhibitions to match up with the August weekend, all within walking distance of each other and the event venues.

Targeting Taradale teens

Plans are in play to redevelop a disused tennis court in Taradale into a teenage sports, recreation and relaxation space.

At their council meeting on June 15, Mount Alexander Shire councillors approved a budget submission from Taradale Community Forum Inc for a detailed design for the redevelopment.

This follows concerted community action over the past two years to develop a concept plan.

Consultants 2MH were engaged to design the plan with input from a group of enthusiastic Taradale residents aged 10 to 15 under the auspices of a Taradale Community Forum Working Group.

Community funds have paid for the design so far.

The detailed design and costing for the project to be funded by council will require up to $30,000.

"Once we have a shovel-ready design we will be in a position to seek state and federal funding set aside for the physical and mental health of smaller rural communities," said Steve Ebbott, Taradale Community Forum Inc president.

"This project specifically targets the teenage audience of Taradale and surrounding areas with the aim of getting them off their screens to exercise and engage socially in an inviting space.

“What’s more, kids in the area live mainly on acreage and have nowhere to rollerskate or skateboard. The fact is, you can’t rollerskate in a paddock."

The project potentially includes a hard court with multiple line markings for basketball, netball, athletics, downball and hopscotch with moundings for scooters and rollerskates. There will be space for a large basket swing, a teenager workout unit or a large spiral slide dependent on budget available. A rubber-surfaced area will give all-abilities access.

An avenue of trees, a picnic setting, a children’s garden and a relaxation/ chill space are also proposed along with retention and restoration of the adjacent traditional pavilion.

"It’s good to see Taradale has really got their act together on this one," said Coliban Ward councillor Christine Henderson.

"It will be a stunning addition to the shire and offer tangible benefit to the welfare of the young people of Taradale and surrounding areas.

"It will also complement the adjacent junior playground to allow the precinct to cater for a wider age range."

“Positive trends in commodity prices underpinned by strong export demand and a growing domestic market can be tempered by factors such as a changing climate and increasing demands from consumers for transparency within the production and supply chain.

“Experienced buyers with clear heads and an eye on the longer-term will also weigh up geopolitical risks and their potential impact on commodity prices. But even with these risks in mind, it appears that high values for quality farmland will continue to be supported in the short to medium term,” she says.

The annual Australian Farmland Values report tracks every farmland sale over the past 26 years, providing detailed insights into farmland values across Australia.

The report drew on more than 263,000 transactions accounting for 315.9 million hectares of land with a combined value of $167.3 billion over 26 years.

The median price per hectare of Australian farmland increased by 12.9 per cent in 2020 - the seventh consecutive year of growth - according to Rural Bank’s annual Australian Farmland Values 2021 report.

For the first time in 15 years, all Australian states experienced growth in median price per hectare, demonstrating the resilience of farmland values through events as significant as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tasmania pushed further into record growth territory (25.3 per cent growth in 2020), followed by Western Australia (19.3 per cent), New South Wales (15.6 per cent), Queensland (11.8 per cent), South Australia (10.9 per cent) and Victoria (6.9 per cent).

These extraordinary increases were despite a 14.5 per cent rise in transaction volumes, bouncing back from 2019’s historic lows. Total transactions equated to a combined 8.2 million hectares of land with a collective value of $10 billion.

Remarkably, Australian farmland has delivered an average compound annual growth rate of 7.6 per cent over the past 20 years.

Alexandra Gartmann, CEO of Rural Bank says the report demonstrated that farmland continued to perform extremely well and reflected the underlying strength of the sector.

“Farmland values have risen strongly in every state of Australia and in many cases to levels not seen before,” Ms Gartmann says.

“Low interest rates and consistent commodity prices, coupled with exceptional seasonal conditions throughout 2020, have provided farmers with capital and an incentive to invest.

These factors have proven to be powerful drivers in terms of demand for farmland.”

For the first time, the Australian Farmland Values 2021 report explores the correlation between commodity prices with both national and state median price per hectare.

“Historically, there has been a strong relationship between commodity prices and farmland values, however, 2020 saw an increasing gap between the two, which we first observed in 2016 and which continues to widen,” Ms Gartmann says.

“Many farmers are seeking to expand. This, combined with a smaller pool of sellers, has resulted in strong competition for property. Farmland prices and farmland as an asset class will continue to be keenly watched but increasing asset price alone is no guarantee that agriculture as an industry will continually prosper.

Patients without a Medicare number will need to apply for a IHI number (Individual Healthcare Identifier) before they can receive a vaccine.

To apply for an IHI number, key in and click on the link at Services Australia (servicesaustralia.gov.au). Type 'IHI' into the search bar and follow the instructions to apply. Once you have received your IHI number, you can then register with any COVID-19 clinic. The link can be accessed through Kyneton Medical Centre's website, Community News section, COVID-19 Vaccination Hub. You can also choose from different levels of commitment ranging from a 10-week course commitment to four casual classes.

Gregory Clark points the finger at the Morrison Government for the botched vaccination rollout in Victoria. All readers should be aware that it is the responsibility of the federal government to supply the vaccines across the country. It is however the responsibility of state governments to actually roll out the vaccines in a safe and effective manner to all eligible recipients. Victoria has received more than its fair share of vaccinations. Unfortunately the Victorian Government and the Health Department has stuffed up at every level.

Trying to cover up their appalling mistakes by blaming the Morrison Government beggars belief.

Personally I am very grateful that I live in Woodend and can access the COVID-19 vaccination through our Brooke Street Medical Centre where the rollout of both the COVID-19 and flu injections has been delivered in a methodical, well-organised manner by courteous, experienced staff.

The scars of savage storms that ripped through the state last week will be etched into our landscape for months to come.

The clean-up will be long and communities are calling for common sense solutions to fast-track recovery efforts.

After two horror years of catastrophic bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic and now severe storms, the commitment of our emergency services volunteers and staff to supporting and protecting our regional communities when we need it most has not gone unnoticed.

Despite the hardship of the past 19 months, there is a clear sense of resilience and support as community members come together to help each other get back on their feet.

And in these times of hardship, government also has a clear role to play in supporting Victorians through the recovery.

Financial assistance – as the Commonwealth Government has provided in the form of disaster relief payments – is one such support, but it’s also about driving practical, common-sense solutions that can be implemented on the ground.

Hundreds of uprooted trees still block access to homes and in state forests, with locals calling for roadside firewood collection rules to be changed to allow local people to lead the clean-up, while also making use of a resource that will otherwise go to waste.

Although permits can be obtained for council-managed roads, current rules prevent firewood collection along VicRoadsmanaged roads.

Meanwhile, the autumn firewood collection season in designated parts of our state forests will close on June 30.

It will take many more months to properly restore road access if we don’t take the opportunity to put common sense rules in place to support the clean-up, while also making sure a valuable resource doesn’t go to waste.

The Labor Government must listen to the calls of local people by temporarily changing the rules to allow these fallen logs to be collected for firewood.

Consumer Affairs have been contacted by one of MAAW's members and CAV replied as follows; “Consumer Affairs Victoria had discussions with the association concerning the provision of advice to members regarding progress with arrangements to hold the annual general meeting. CAV did not approve the holding of the meeting in September 2021. CAV has written to the association concerning this incorrect advice in the newsletter.”

Our resilient footballers Peter Ryan, Castlemaine I noted with interest the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for 2021. Very fine people, all of them, no doubt. But there is one group that I feel should have been honoured because of the extraordinary courage and resilience they show. I’m thinking of the players, officials and volunteers who make up Castlemaine Football Netball Club. I say with all sincerity that I admire them greatly. It does take something special to line up week after week to get clobbered by the opposition. I note that after round seven this week, the Firsts’ average losing margin is 155 points! The seconds, the Under 17s and the netballers are similarly struggling. Still, they turn up faithfully to training even on these cold June nights and put their heads once again on the chopping block on Saturdays. Truly, I think they are very brave and deserve recognition. I do wonder, though, how long the Bendigo Football Netball League can let this go on. It really helps no one.

Fairytales for grown-ups

Think fairytales are just old-fashioned stories you read to children at bedtime? A special event coming up at Castlemaine Library is going to change your mind.

South of the Sun – Australian Fairy Tales for the 21st Century is a ground-breaking anthology put together by the Australian Fairy Tale Society. As part of the book’s launch, the local library is hosting an event on Saturday July 3 with renowned local authors Carmel Bird and Cate Kennedy and Ballarat artist Sarah Hart, in a panel chaired by local photographer and illustrator Lorena Carrington, as they discuss fairytales for grown-ups in contemporary Australia.

The stories in this enchanting, illustrated book are definitely not for children. They are strictly for grown-ups. Often dark, the stories visit places where things don’t end happily ever after, where a single decision can haunt you forever.

But there are also tales to make you laugh out loud, stories of sweet revenge and scenes of sheer delight in the world of magic and the fey.

But what makes a fairytale a modern Australian one? How does it differ from Indigenous storytelling? How can we include Australia’s diverse population from so many different cultures?

The panel shows what a wealth of talent we have in Castlemaine and surrounding areas. Leading the discussion will be Lorena Carrington, award-winning and internationally published illustrator.

“How lucky we are to have such extraordinary writers and illustrators in our midst. I’m so looking forward to diving into the wealth of knowledge and creative brilliance that our panellists share,” Lorena said.

Lorena will be casting a talking spell over Carmel Bird, who has been working with the motifs and narratives of fairytales since the 1980s. In 2016 Carmel won the Patrick White Literary Award.

The second panellist is Cate Kennedy, who likes a steady diet of stories – she’s published short ones, long ones, true ones and made-up ones. Two collections of her work are currently on the VCE syllabus.

And the last, but not least, is Sarah Hart. Sarah is a Ballarat-based mixed-media artist and writer with an abiding passion for fairytales, Feminism, the glory in the ordinary, and the stories and experiences of women.

The local creatives told the Express the project was a fantastic way for them to connect and continue to write and create during the 2020 lockdowns.

The book was pieced together by a dedicated 'Anthology Committee', which was formed about two and a half years ago and had countless meetings via Zoom during the lockdowns to bring the incredible collaborative project to fruition.

"It was really delightful to be able to continue to connect and share ideas and inspiration," Lorena said.

"I think we all could probably do with a little magic in our lives at the moment, so escape to a land of modern wonder and come along on July 3."

Support group for women

Castlemaine Documentary Film Festival will return to the big screen at the Theatre Royal Castlemaine next month.

The festival will kick off with a launch party on Friday July 23 and will then see eight incredible films light up the big screen at the Royal on July 24 and 25, including three Australian premieres.

The film screenings will feature the popular Q&A component with a number of film creatives and guests featured on the discussion panels.

The Saturday and Sunday night screenings feature music films and there will be the opportunity for festival goers to enjoy a dance after each screening and make a real night of it!

Saturday night will feature Laurel Canyon. Celebrating the music of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, The Mamas And The Papas, Carole King, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, James Taylor, The Doors, Frank Zappa and more, the film takes us back in time to a place where a rustic canyon in the heart of Los Angeles became a musical petri dish.

This will be followed by the event Theatre Daze - An Aquarian Exposition: Peace, Love and Music, featuring MAINfm DJs, projection, dancers and prizes. Costumes are definitely encouraged!

Sunday night will feature film Faith and Branko. This intimate story chronicles the relationship between musicians Faith and Branko over seven years.

In 2011, Faith travels from England to Serbia to learn gypsy accordion. She falls hard for Roma violinist Branko, and despite language barriers, they fall in love through music. This screening will be followed by a Festival Wrap-Up Party featuring live Gypsyjazz band - The Django Fretts at 9.30pm.

The Django Fretts will entertain the crowd at C-DOC’s Sunday night festival finale party.

An addictive behaviours self-help group for women has started up again in Kyneton.

Delivered by Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health, SMART Recovery helps people with any kind of addictive behaviour set realistic goals and identify triggers as well as teaching techniques to cope with urges and cravings.

Unlike other support groups, there is a focus on what is currently happening in a person’s life rather than looking at the past, and participants seek ways to support others in the group to look to the future and make changes to their behaviour.

“The emphasis in the meetings is on changing the behaviour, not changing the person,” says Julie Sutcliffe, group facilitator and counsellor at Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health.

“Group members are the experts in their recovery and they are encouraged to give feedback about what works for them from their lived experience.”

The meetings take place on Thursdays at 1.30pm at 1 Caroline Chisholm Drive Kyneton and women can attend as they feel the need to.

Notice is hereby given by the GoulburnMurray Rural Water Corporation (GMW) of the making of a resolution setting and adopting the fees and charges in this Price List and Schedule of Charges (Schedule).

All fees and charges are set for services and works provided by GMW for the period 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022 except as otherwise provided. All prices are exempt from GST (excluding prices in relation to Loch Garry).

INTEREST Interest shall be payable in respect to all amounts payable under a fee or charge if the amount is not paid by the due date. The interest rate applicable to amounts not paid by the due date calculated in accordance with the Water Act 1989 (Vic) is 2.9% for the 2021/22 Financial Year. Prior to applying interest we will inform the customer when interest is to be applied to the outstanding amounts.

Interest will not be payable on overdue account balances by customers who enter into and comply with a payment arrangement. This applies for balances from a prior period where a payment arrangement is still in force. Payments are applied on the following basis: Legal costs owing (if any); Interest owing (if any); Arrears owing (if any); Current rates and charges (divided evenly across all charges), unless otherwise requested by the owner.

HOW OUR FEES AND CHARGES ARE DETERMINED GMW determines fees and charges for the forthcoming financial year following consultation with customers. Planning and management charges are charges determined by or on behalf of an agency of the Commonwealth or an agency of a State, excluding charges determined by a local government body. The Minister for Water delegated certain functions and responsibilities under the Water Act 1989 (Vic) to GMW in the Instrument of Delegation dated 13 December 2019. This includes determining fees for the issuing, varying or cancelling of water use or works licences. Additionally, Water Share and Allocation Application fees and charges and fees and charges related to the Victorian Water Register, excluding the Water Register Fee, are prescribed under Victorian regulations12.

SPORTS wrap Bomber blazes away in 22 goal haul Maryborough Castlemaine Football Netball League sides returned to the field and court for round nine competition last Saturday following the recent lockdown and Queen's Birthday Weekend league bye.

The rest obviously did the world of good for fifth placed Maldon with the side absolutely pulverising opponents Maryborough Rovers before a home crowd at the Bill Woodfull Reserve.

Dons spearhead Rhys Ford led the way with a staggering 22 goals for the day.

Maldon opened their account with a seven goal haul in the first term to the Rovers two.

The Bombers added another 13 in the second quarter while keeping the Rovers scoreless. Maldon went on with the job in the second half kicking 10 goals in the third and another 14 in final quarter to win by 270 points.

Maldon 7.9, 20.17, 30.20, 44.25 (289) defeated Maryborough Rovers 2.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 (19).

Top of the table Harcourt also posted another win over Natte Bealiba in a low scoring affair.

The Swans threw everything they had at the Lions in the opening term and were two points up at quarter time.

ond term kicking 3.3 to Natte's 1.1 to hold a 15 point lead at half time.

But Natte held Harcourt to just two goals in the third term to stay in touch and trail by just 19 points at the final change.

In an even final term both sides kicked two goals a piece and while the Lions claimed the win by 21 points, the Swan will be extremely pleased with their performance against the League powerhouse.

Competition resumes for Rangers Kyneton girls return to the pitch

After another COVID interruption, competition resumed for the Macedon Rangers Soccer Club.

With both boys teams away, the club unveiled its new alternative strip thanks to sponsor Fiore from Hire a Hubby backed up by Macedon Ranges Party Hire and Cheshire Building and the boys did not let them down with constant pressure and energetic attack on the ball.

"In such a short time we as a club have come so far, provided our players so many opportunities and have been lucky enough to entice sponsors such as Macedon Ranges Party Hire, Cheshire Building and Hire a Hubby to want to be part of our exciting future,” club president Charles Bender said as the new shirts were unveiled.

On a glorious sunny Saturday morning in Spring Gully, Kyneton District Soccer Club's U13 Girls returned to the soccer pitch again. The girls were very excited to don their boots and get back into action against Spring Gully Red Renegades.

The Kyneton girls were put under Kyneton’s U13 Girls returned to the soccer pitch on Saturday. pressure in the first half against a strong attack from Spring Gully's forward line. The first half resulted with Spring Gully leading 4-0.

In the second half, Kyneton defence maintained a consistent stronghold warding off a number of attempts at goal. Kyneton seized an opening at the 46-minute mark with Zara Hooppell putting Kyneton on the scoreboard. The game ended with a score of 5-1 leading to Spring Gully's victory. A shout out to both Kyneton goalkeepers Amber Doolan and Mila Pereira for strong performances on the day.

SPORTS wrap ‘Shep’ reaches 200 Bill West In an era where loyalty in local football has changed significantly over the years, Jesse Sheppard chalked up his 200th senior game with Woodend-Hesket on Saturday.

He is pictured with proud wife Bianca and children Ayla, aged 3, and Aston 1, immediately after coming onto Gilbert Gordon Oval through a large banner marking his milestone game.

The Woodend-Hesket reserves and senior players lined up before the match against Lancefield as Hawks’ supporters applauded ‘Shep’.

He was also chaired from the ground with both senior teams applauding at the end of the match.

Because of COVID regulations, the special gala celebration night to mark ‘Shep’ becoming only the fifth Hawk to reach 200 senior games since Woodend and Hesket clubs amalgamated in 1978 could not be held.

Born in Gisborne, ‘Shep’ grew up in Woodend and played with the Woodend junior teams for some years before making his senior debut in 2005.

As a 17-year-old he was poised to play in the Woodend side which won the 2007 premiership, but shattered his ankle in the last home and away game of the season.

‘Shep’ has played largely as a defender, and his strong, courageous play has long been respected by teammates and opponents alike.

Bianca, who grew up in Macedon, said football and motorcycling have been his recreational pursuits and he has really enjoyed his time with Woodend-Hesket, a club where he was senior captain from 2011 – 2014.

A carpenter by trade (operating Timber Finish Carpentery in WoodWoodend-Hesket stalwart Jesse Sheppard played his 200th end) and is pleased to have been a one club player. senior game for the club on Saturday. Magpies fly to favourites Bill West

If there were any doubts about which side is entitled to be favourite for the Riddell League football premiership this season, they were dispelled on Saturday as Wallan demolished previously undefeated Riddell by 74 points.

It was generally anticipated the match at Greenhill Reserve would be a tight contest; it was anything but as the Magpies took control with a seven-goals-to-two second quarter blitz that effectively put the Bombers out of business. To kick 19 goals and keep Riddell to nine was a big performance, and experienced Magpies coach Daniel Nolan will need to keep the lid on expectations knowing a lot can happen before finals time.

The Magpies have heaps of players in form, having thrashed a hapless Diggers Rest by 142 points in the last round played before the enforced “holiday”.

They had 11 different goalkickers against Riddell.

Equally, senior coach Justin Belleville should have plenty if ammunition to fire at the Bombers this week in the lead-up to Saturday’s clash with Woodend-Hesket.

Riddell missed Matt Panuccio’s leadership around the ground, and expect a much better showing this weekend.

Generally players and supporters were pleased that football was on again after weeks of lockdown due to the COVID scare, though the lack of hard matches showed up with errant kicking for goal at several venues.

One of the changes made by the RDFNL is to reduce the finals series to a ‘Final Four’ system, instead of a ‘Final Five’ and juggling the draw has enabled every side to play 16 home and away matches On Saturday the league emphasised that all in the RDFNL community cannot afford to become complacent in the fight against COVID-19.

The league stated: “The virus unfortunately remains part of our day to day lives and to keep our community safe and the RDFNL competitions running each and every weekend, we need to adhere to guidelines.”

The closest match of the day at the weekend was at Gilbert Gordon Oval, with an inaccurate Woodend-Hesket having to work hard to keep a tenacious Lancefield at bay.

The Hawks eventually won by 24 points, with quality forward Rory Alexander kicking four of his side’s seven goals.

At Tony Clarke Reserve, third-placed Macedon won by 41 points against a battling Melton Centrals, and will have be tuned up to keep a revitalised Romsey at bay this Saturday.

Romsey had something of a cakewalk at home against winless Western Rams, boosting percentage in the process of kicking 24 goals.

Jack Jedwab, one of the most talented and

versatile players in the league, finished with eight and Matt Burkett continued his stellar form.

Diggers Rest had the bye, with coach Jamie Lobb having plenty of non-football time to reflect how his side can be rejuvenated to make the finals.

Junior matches took place on Sunday after the unscheduled lockdown break.

Bulldogs take on ladder leaders

Gisborne senior footballers face an acid test this Saturday, trying to dethrone unbeaten ladder leaders Sandhurst at Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The Bulldogs sit in second position on percentage, and how they perform may well be a further guide to finals prospects.

At Gardiner Reserve last Saturday, Gisborne defeated Maryborough by 130 points after the visitors offered some opposition in the first half.

It became a matter of how much Gisborne could win by as the half time lead blew out to 46 points, with the visitors having few opportunities to score.

The home side took full control, running harder than their opponents. Brad Bernacki knocked up getting possessions, and spearhead Pat McKenna finished with seven goals as the Bulldogs ran right away in the second half.

Bernacki, Jake O’Brien and Josh Kemp each kicked three goals, and Bernacki, McKenna, Jarrad Lynch, Jack Reaper and Scott Walsh figured in the Bulldogs best in the 21.19 to 2.3 result.

Gisborne will be taking heart for the battle against Sandhurst, knowing the ladder leaders beat Kyneton by 48 points, whereas it was 100 points the difference when the Tigers visited Gardiner Reserve the previous weekend.

Gisborne Reserves were grateful to the small number of players who turned up to represent Maryborough, with the home side selecting a squad of 30 in advance knowing the visitors were struggling for numbers.

A game was possible, and some of the excess Gisborne boys pulled on Maryborough guernseys to ensure there was a spirited contest.

While the score reflected a 138 points victory, the coach was able to get time into about 30 players, some returning after prolonged injury.

Hayden Doric kicked six goals and Josh Hickmott five, with Heath Simpson named as the Dogs’ best.

The Reserves face a three-match stretch of matches that are likely to shape their season.

WOMEN RETURN Gisborne’s women’s football team lost to Sunbury Lions by 25 points of Friday evening, and occupy fifth spot on the ladder, in need of some wins to clinch a spot in the finals.

After an extended hiatus due to the impact of COVID restrictions on the EDFL competition, Gisborne played second-placed Sunbury Lions at Clarke Oval in Sunbury.

The Lions recently joined division one, and although the game was closely contested in general play, they put vital goals on the board.

Gisborne’s intensity was good, despite a final 4.7 (31) to 0.6 (6) scoreline.

Best players for Gisborne were Chloe Prpic, Stephanie Brancatisano, Claire Bourdon, Loree Newton, Olivia Peterson and Marilyn Elder.

NETBALLERS EXCITED All Gisborne’s netball teams are excited about the round against Sandhurst – a moment of truth for those battling to be on top of the ladder at the halfway mark of the season.

Saturday was another great day for Gisborne’s netball teams, with comfortable wins across the board against Maryborough.

The A-graders welcomed back goalers Tazma Morris, Ella Finemore and Clare Vearing after a short absence due to Covid restrictions.

Four quick goals in an intense opening set the tone for a match where tight midcourt pressure and consistent defensive rebounds paved the way for a 30-goal win.

In B-grade, Maryborough led early, but some consistent defensive pressure and a steady style of play led to a 43-26 victory.

Gisborne’s 17&Under side continue to show premiership promise, with a 23-goal victory. Clutch intercepts by ‘young gun’ Emily McDonald led to scoring opportunities.

The B Reserve side steaked ahead for a dominant 61-22 victory, making it two successive victories an a spot back in the top five. The girls’ efforts both on and off the court are paying dividends.

Young Magpies improve

Castlemaine Football Netball Club played host to Golden Square in round eight action at the Camp Reserve last Saturday.

The young Magpie outfit once again found the going tough against the Bulldogs but posted two goals in the second term to trail Square by 42 points at quarter time.

The visitors dominated the second term but the Magpies found another avenue to goal in the third term to get a third goal on the board much to the delight of the home crowd.

In the end the Bulldogs ran out 168-point winners but there were lots of positives for the Magpies across the ground.

Goal kickers for Castlemaine were Sam Nettleton, Will Moran and Klai Jermyn.

Best were Liam Wilkinson, Callum McConachy, Riley Pedretti, Declan Slingo, Will Moran, Nicholas Woodman.

In the Reserves the Magpies made a positive start kicking two goals to Square's four and were within 14 points at quarter time.

But the Bulldogs were just getting started

On the netball court the Magpies A Reserve and B Grade sides found the going tough and lost by big margins. However, the B Reserve netballers produced a great performance going down to Golden Square 11-27 in a low scoring affair. Castlemaine's 17 & Under side also put together some fantastic passages of play and were unlucky to go down to Square 16-31 despite an admirable effort.

This weekend the Magpie sides will head Magpie Will Moran makes a quick pass as teamup the Calder to Dower Park to taken on mate Callum McConachy moves in to support.

Kyneton footballers faced a daunting task against strong Sandhurst opposition at the Showgrounds on Saturday.

With plenty of players on the injury list spread across the Tigers’ teams, the senior match may have been expected to be very one-sided.

It was anything but that, as the Kyneton contingent reinforced by the inclusion of several lads from the Under 18s, showed heaps of tenacity and willingness to compete against the unbeaten ladder leaders.

It was a tough, seesawing game, and the Tigers had chances to be close but inaccurate kicking for goal proved costly.

Sandhurst’s class prevailed to the tune of 14.16 to 7.12 (see match details for goals and best).

The day began with the local U18s absolutely depleted through injuries, and losing four players to senior ranks.

With 17 to start the match soon reduced to 16, the Tigers were outsized and outmatched.

They can be proud of their efforts despite the 116-point margin.

The Reserves game was well fought out, but the visitors were simply too strong in the final analysis with a 73-point victory.

Overall a day of football which showed good future signs for the club.

Kyneton teams face another tough task at Strathfieldsaye this weekend.

NETBALL ENTHUSIASM With Kyneton coach Di Oakley fresh out of lockdown in Melbourne, the netball girls played with plenty of enthusiasm across the five matches, but class prevailed.

The A-graders went down 49-28 (details unavailable) and across the board the Sandhurst lineups had more depth.

Kyneton’s A-Reserve lineup tried hard and secured some fine turnovers.

Jess Seddon was welcomed back and took out the incentive award for her excellent defence and determination despite a 69-24 scoreline.

The Tigers’ B-graders welcomed back metro players and coaches and rattled the visitors with some fine play in the first quarter.
