Housing highlighted The identification of possible sites for new social housing on council land at Maldon and Newstead are among highlights contained in Mount Alexander Shire Council's newly adopted annual report for 2020-21. Positives detailed in the report on the financial year that was, include a significant

boost in unbudgeted grants and contributions that lifted the council's total income to $46.9 million. After expenses that were slightly lower than had been budgeted, the council recorded a $3.9 million operating surplus, the new report shows. Tuesday evening's November council meeting at which councillors unanimously endorsed the new annual report. "Despite COVID it was a very successful year," outgoing mayor Cr Tony Cordy observed. The report features an audited performance statement and financial report on the council's budgeted income of $40.1 million, as well as information on partners

the council worked with and projects it advocated for at regional, state and federal levels. Signing an agreement to buy power for council buildings and services from renewable energy sources as part of momentum towards achieving carbon neutrality also featured among a diverse range of achievements detailed.
