Regional hospitality venues had the green light to reopen with lockdown lifting on Friday but many remained shut as tough restrictions rendered some operations not viable.

The latest pandemic restrictions cap hospitality patrons to just 10 inside and 20

seated outside – a fraction of the capacity of many venues.

Owner of The Malmsbury, Anda Gazzard, said opening a large venue to just 10 people was not viable.

“It’s absolutely ludicrous. They are the toughest restrictions we’ve had this entire time – it’s some kind of magic trick we have to perform,” she said.

“Even if we had double sittings it just wouldn’t be viable. When people go out for a meal we don’t want to push them out the door, they want to be entertained and we want to entertain them. These restrictions go against the grain of what we’re all about.”

Noted for its 1927 inter-war period house and remnants of Edna Walling designed gardens, since 2017 it has been the home to nuns of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Trustee of the Coptic Orthodox Church Property Trust, Father Daniel Ghabrial, said the church understood the importance of heritage but was seeking to reduce the size of the overlay.

Freemasons Victoria and the Coptic Orthodox Church have urged reconsideration of overlays at Woodend Masonic Lodge and Campaspe House respectively as the council deliberates its latest amendment to the heritage study.

Representing Freemasons, Andrew Baird said a heritage overlay would have significant financial impact and limit the organisation’s charitable works in the Macedon Ranges.

“The current proposal restricts our ability to survive in this location, we fear this may be the final straw for Freemasonry in Woodend,” he said.

Mr Baird said Freemasons Victoria had faced four new heritage overlays in the past two years at different sites around Victoria.

He said Freemasons had a further 20-30 buildings with overlays that demonstrated the struggle to maintain them.

“The increased cost, time and reduction in land use options ultimately led to dilapidated and unused buildings,” he said.

“Individual Freemasonry members have neither the technical knowledge, financial opportunity nor skills to adequately deal with council and heritage development planning processes… Very simply, it’s a real strain on organisations.”

The 1926 lodge at 35 Forest Street was noted in the heritage study for its “demonstration of the importance of freemasonry in the life of country towns, particularly after WWI”.

“It displays typical characteristics of a masonic hall from this period… including a gabled hall-like form, an unadorned red brick exterior, and the incorporation

Maldon man arrested Kyneton police have charged a man following a single-vehicle crash in Gisborne South last Thursday night.

A passer-by called Triple Zero after he stopped to assist the man who had crashed his white Mitsubishi into a barrier on the Calder Freeway just before 11pm.

The 52-year-old Maldon man was in

possession of what police believed was heroin and methylamphetamine.

He has been charged with two counts of possess drug of dependence, commit indictable offence while on bail and careless driving.

He was remanded and expected to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court on Friday.

National wildlife welfare advocates in Castlemaine say a proposed kangaroo pet food meat processing plant at Inglewood risks wiping out that area’s native kangaroo population within months.

National wildlife welfare advocates in Castlemaine say a proposed kangaroo pet food meat processing plant at Inglewood risks wiping out that area's native kangaroo population within months.

They're urging the state member for Bendigo West and the state's agriculture minister to intervene to stop the plant going ahead.

The Campaspe Meat Company has applied to the Loddon Shire Council to establish the facility with the company's director stating that, if approved, the plant could be operational within weeks, processing 1000 of the native animals a week – ultimately increasing up to 2000 a week – and creating 10 jobs.

But national wildlife advocates based in Castlemaine, Elphinstone and Maldon say the numbers of kangaroos proposed to be killed is unsustainable.

Among those objecting is Australian Wildlife Protection Council member, Maldon's Ian Slattery, who rescues injured wildlife across multiple local government areas and says the proposed plant would decimate wildlife, tourism potential and local amenity with Loddon Shire locals forced to listen to gunshots through the night.

Local wildlife advocates also particularly fear the proposal will result in the inhumane suffering of native wildlife.

"The shooting takes place at night and it simply isn't able to be monitored," Mr Slattery said.

"As rescuers, we are the ones called out by locals the morning after the killing to deal with the aftermath – kangaroos with limbs and jaws shot off, remains of butchered bodies and orphaned joeys calling out for their dead mothers.

"It is a sickening sight and the locals who discover these poor animals are traumatised by what they have witnessed.

"If this facility is allowed to proceed, central Victoria will end up the same

as regions in NSW and SA where the kangaroo pet food industry has all but wiped out local populations of native kangaroos.”

Castlemaine-based president of the Australian Society for Kangaroos, Nikki Sutterby, says the Society has also lodged an objection with the Loddon Shire Council and is urging others to do likewise.

"The Campaspe Meat Company plans to process up to 2000 kangaroos per week for pet food, which will directly result in the cruel death of up to 1000 orphaned joeys every week, for just 10 jobs," Ms Sutterby said.

Local animal welfare advocates also say the proposal is particularly ill-timed given World Wildlife Fund findings that almost three billion koalas, kangaroos and other animals are estimated to have been killed or displaced in Australia's 'Black Summer' bushfires 2019-20.

They say the national fauna emblem holds far greater earning capacity promoted as a fully protected tourist drawcard.

"Bringing tourists into the community helps accommodation suppliers, local cafes and other businesses long term," Elphinstone wildlife carer Nikki Medwell said.

Bendigo MP Maree Edwards confirmed she had received communication from the Australian Wildlife Protection Council, highlighting concerns about the proposed plant.

"I have been contacted by the Australian Wildlife Protection Council and forwarded their concerns to the minister for agriculture," Ms Edwards said.

A Loddon Shire Council spokesperson told the Midland Express the application was now in the process of being assessed by council officers and following completion of the assessment process would proceed to a future meeting of the council for its consideration.

Outrage at kangaroo processing proposal

Local citizen scientists with all levels of bird knowledge are encouraged to participate in the Macedon Ranges Bird Blitz.

The day, scheduled for October 23, is a chance to assist in recording the region's birdlife and is the third event of its kind.

There 96 bird monitoring sites to survey across the Macedon Ranges.

On the Bird Blitz day, small groups of volunteers will each survey three to four sites. Each group will have at least one leader who is confident with bird identification.

Group numbers will depend on the COVID-19 restrictions at the time.

Meeting points and details of the monitoring sites will be provided before the Bird Blitz day.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council will also host an online meeting with all participants in the week before the surveys to discuss sites and survey methodology.

An invitation to this meeting will be sent directly to participants.

Cash grants for regional businesses most affected by the current lockdown will proceed this week, unaffected by the announcement that restrictions in most areas outside of Melbourne have now been lifted.

Meet ... the orchard keepers Eve Lamb

A poet, an engineer, a nutritionist and a filmmaker walk into an orchard…

The result is The Orchard Keepers – the newest kids on the block at Harcourt's Organic Farming Co-Operative.

Over the past few weeks The Orchard Keepers – aka Terry Eyssens, Yoann Le Guen, Ingrid Hyland and Alex Kelly – have taken over from from Tellurian Fruit Gardens who managed the local orchard for the past three years.

They've wasted no time in getting some exciting new plans up and growing and have just launched 80 shares to their Community Supported Agriculture program. This invites Castlemaine and Harcourt residents to buy shares in the 22-week season ahead, providing the farmers with a degree of security and all those who have snapped up a share with the guarantee of a weekly box of fresh local fruit.

"We launched our CSA program for our Castlemaine and Harcourt hub last Friday and we've almost sold out," Alex Kelly says.

"We really want our local CSA members to have a relationship with us and with the farm.

"It's also a way of building a really resilient food system."

While the CSA program is already a proven winner in the local area and beyond, the Orchard Keepers now plan to introduce more orchard- oriented public training and events on site.

"We're going to be doing more training and events here, and in October we're planning to do one about Queensland Fruit Fly management," Alex says.

"And we're also going to start offering

The Orchard Keepers are the second business to lease the orchard, taking over from Tellurian Fruit Gardens who managed the orchard for the past three years.

Before that it was known as Mt Alexander Fruit Gardens and run by Harcourt's Katie and Hugh Finlay.

The Orchard Keepers are members of the Harcourt Organic Farming Cooperative, a collaboration of diverse organic farmers who lease land on a single farm in Harcourt – with Katie and Hugh remaining on site to continue sharing their expertise while also running Carr's Organic Fruit Tree Nursery.

“This is not a plan to reopen. It’s a cruel blow to regional hospitality businesses who hoped they would be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.”

Trentham’s Cosmopolitan Hotel told customers via social media the limitations on hospitality were a “killer blow as they were looking forward to waiting on all locals and visitors”.

“It’s great that regional Victoria is opening up, however, due to the exceptionally tough restrictions, it is simply not viable for us to open for dine-in,” they said.

“Thank you to all that have called wanting to book.

Also joining the list of venues to stay shut to dine-in were Kyneton RSL, Mount Macedon Winery and Victoria Hotel in Woodend.

‘Another lockdown would devastate’ Business Kyneton president Kate Fairley said there were many hospitality venues that would be unable to open under the current restrictions but another lockdown would devastate small towns reliant on tourism.

“It’s so hard. For a business that has a full dinner service with a chef and staff to employ for just a small number of people, for example, it is easy to understand why it wouldn’t be viable,” she said.

“There are other venues like small cafés or those that have adapted to takeaway that will be able to operate.

“I think slow and steady is the right way even though it’s incredibly challenging.

“If we went into another lockdown, I think it would break a lot of people. It’s so important that we keep doing the right thing.”

Under the current restrictions, regional business operators that do open will need to continue ID checks, sign-ins, observe patron limits, distancing and face-mask rules, and encourage good hand hygiene.

“We know that we have the Commercial Zone there and that it’s allowed to have these uses, but that doesn’t mean that we ignore good design and protection of our environment,” Cr Anderson said.

“This is the Macedon Ranges: we’re a very special place and have a very sensitive environment, so when we do have land uses that come in our zones and applicable land areas they need to respond to how we are and who we are.”

The applications will now progress to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal where a final decision will be made.

Developers have been reluctant to modify contentious plans for a 24-hour roadhouse, Bunnings and McDonalds to better fit Kyneton.

Last week Macedon Ranges Council voted 8-1 to refuse both permits that failed to meet planning concerns despite several negotiation efforts. Councillor Mark Ridgeway said the council had been broadly supportive of development in the Edgecombe Road area but it was “vital to get it right”.

The two-part commercial proposal attracted a combined 658 submissions with just 31 of those in support.

Grounds for council’s refusal included detrimental amenity impacts, safety concerns, inappropriate design, built form and landscaping of the proposal, and inappropriate interface with roads.

“Given the degree of variations from council’s conditions, it’s not just simply a case of tweaking some of those conditions, we’re having to ask the developer to go away and do the whole thing again. We cannot approve the development in its current format,” Cr Ridgeway said.

Management changes in store for Stanley Park

Options for the future management of Mount Macedon's Stanley Park are open for community feedback.

Until September 2020, there was a committee of management for Stanley Park comprising community members but changes in the Local Government Act mean new options need to be explored.

The committee was a ‘Special Committee’ which no longer exists under the new act.

Since October 2020, the park has been managed under a Memorandum of Understanding between Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the former committee. This was an interim measure.

The proposed new options are: a community asset committee with independent decision-making powers, an advisory committee, a 'Friends of' Stanley Park Group run on a voluntary basis, a council-managed park, or a delegated committee.

Let’s lighten the lload oad

In the popular imagination, tradies embody the notion of rugged Aussie individualism.

We think of sturdy men and women, on the tools for long hours, self-contained and resilient, paint-smeared radio blasting music, with a couple of coldies in the fridge for knock-off.

Statistics, however, paint a different picture.

Tradespeople, along with other construction workers, are twice as likely than their peers to die by suicide. They also have twice the rates of anxiety and depression.

On a worksite, if you have to lift something heavy, you ask for help. For many tradies, however, the same logic doesn’t apply when the load that needs lifting is emotional. As a cohort, they are much less likely than the rest of us to seek help early.

To tackle this issue, North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network has created a tradie-specific mental health campaign, called ‘Lighten the Load’.

The campaign links to the HeadtoHelp service – a network of mental healthcare providers across Victoria that aims to complement and supplement GP care – to provide tradies with the support they need.

The Lighten the Load campaign targets construction industry workers in our region and asks them to seek help early.

The campaign also speaks to their mates and families, so that they can find out how to help the tradies they care about.

Many tradies are self-employed – sole traders as well as onsite workers. They support families, pay rent or mortgages, and meet other day-to-day demands.

Cashflow is erratic, sometimes meagre, and the hours are very long.

Perhaps, too, they have a couple of employees, including an apprentice. They are responsible for training, for welfare, and for safety – huge mental and financial burdens when money’s too tight to mention and the kids need to go to the dentist again.

On top of this, sole-traders and their families often don’t have access to the support that medium and large businesses, unions or trade organisations can provide. And many tradies have faced increased pressures due to the pandemic, which has limited access and hours.

No wonder so many are having a hard time!

Drink driver nabbed at Woodend

A 25-year-old Woodend man has had his license suspended and vehicle impounded for drink driving.

The man was intercepted near the BP service station in Woodend on September 4 at 2.24am when he failed a preliminary breath test.

Further testing at Kyneton Police Station returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.155 per cent.

His licence was immediately suspended and will need to explain his actions to the magistrate.

His vehicle was impounded for a month at a cost of $1425.

High speed Police intercepted a black Ford Falcon travelling at high speed east along Sutherlands Road in Riddells Creek on August 29.

The male driver was detected at 84 km/h in a 50 km/h speed zone at 12.20pm. He was issued a $591 fine and had his licence suspended for three months.

Police urge drivers to slow down.

Anthony Judd has been appointed as the new regional director of the Loddon Mallee region for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

He will oversee the region’s delivery of key programs, such as the implementation of the Hanging Rock Strategic Plan, climate change adaptation, biodiversity response planning and upgrades to Kyabram Fauna Park.

Mr Judd will start his role on Monday October 11, succeeding former regional director, Marg Allan, who retired in July.

For the past 15 years, Mr Judd has served in various management and leadership roles within Buloke Shire Council, most recently serving as CEO of the council since 2018.

He also holds several key leadership positions such as member of Mallee Regional Partnerships Board since 2018, secretary of Rural Councils Victoria since 2019 and is a committee member on the DELWP Local Government Act Implementation Steering Committee.

He has also volunteered in a number of community groups and has been the senior coach of the Charlton Football Club Men’s team.

In addition to his community roles, Mr Judd has a Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Ballarat and a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University.

Mr Judd said he was proud to join DELWP Loddon Mallee as regional director and looked forward to strengthening the department’s focus on community-centred programs and services.

“Having grown up in the heart of the Loddon Mallee region and working within government services for 15 years, I have a strong established knowledge of the region and an added drive to see our community prosper and thrive,” he said.

“I’m excited to be working with everyone at DELWP and look forward to meeting our stakeholders and community members in the coming months and learning more about the priorities of our regional communities.”

Dog owner unleashes A Kyneton dog owner is calling on other dog owners to be more responsible for their pets when walking them off lead.

Clive Rutter says that every time he takes his dog for a walk on lead, he is rushed at by offleash dogs during the permitted 7.30-10.30am off-leash period on the Campaspe River Walk at Kyneton.

"Since the off-leash period's implementation it has created two classes, the off-leash and on-leash dog owners, and the rift is growing," Mr Rutter said.

"Every time I take my dog for a walk on leash I get dogs off-leash rushing my dog and getting in his face which causes my dog to defend himself.

"I ask the owner, who usually isn’t anywhere near their dog, to call their dog and I always get 'it's okay, he’s fine', even though my dog is clearly being attacked.

"I then get abused because my dog on lead defends himself from the uncontrolled dog."

Mr Rutter said off leashers should not have their dogs off lead if they couldn’t maintain control of them.

"I seek fairness between the off and on-leashers so both can walk their dogs safely at all times," he said.

A residential aged-care facility with 120 beds is planned to fill a void of options in Romsey.

SignatureCare has plans to build on 8.4 hectares of grazing land at the corner of Melbourne-Lancefield Road and Hutchinsons Lane West.

The facility would provide accommodation and services for aged-care residents of higher and lower care needs, including dementia, with 24-hour nursing.

SignatureCare’s Stephen Pollock last week told Macedon Ranges Shire Council the facility would fill a void of aged-care services.

“We’re in Romsey because of a need. The Department of Health has issued licences here because it’s an area of high need,” he said.

“In the 2016 Sensus, Romsey had a population of 9668 with no aged-care home.

As a population comparison, Kyneton has a population of 9691, 23 people different, and has 183 operational places and another 120 places that have been granted.”

Mr Pollock said the closest aged-care facility to Romsey is in Woodend about 22km away.

Also part of the application is a car park for 44 parking spaces fronting Hutchinsons Lane.

Landscaping within the eastern half of the site is proposed surrounding the development area.

The group purchased the Romsey property before applying for a permit and now awaits a council decision.

The application attracted eight objections relating to increased traffic, road safety, impacts on amenity and character, and loss of views and privacy.

Mr Pollock said the group was willing to work with members of the community to find solutions to concerns.

Mr Rutter said the amount of dog poo in the area had also increased substantially because the off leashers didn’t pick up after their dogs.

"The council should be requiring off and on-leashers to pick up their dog's excrement and should position bins along the walk to discard it in," he said.

Rob Ball, Macedon Ranges Shire Council's acting director of planning and environment, said council officers conducted proactive patrols in areas reported as having high levels of non-compliance with leashing and effective control requirements.

"The Campaspe River Walk and Kyneton Botanical Gardens are an area where our local laws officers patrol," he said.

Mr Ball said the council reminded owners that they were required to observe leash and effective control requirements across the shire.

"Dogs in public places must also be under effective control at all times," he said.

"In off-leash areas, the owner must carry a leash, chain or cord that is in good condition and is able to be placed on the dog when necessary.

"The dog must remain within 50 metres of the owner so that it is in visual and audible range to allow for effective

Forest Fire Management Victoria crews will ramp up targeted fuel management activities in coming months to reduce risk of future bushfires in the Murray Goldfields district.

Planned burning, and other fuel management works such as clearing, mowing and slashing, are part of a program to reduce bushfire risk for communities and the environment.

FFMVic Loddon Mallee acting district manager, Adrian Parker, said planned burning and mechanical treatments including slashing programs were planned across the district for spring, with local planned burnings set for Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Macedon.

He said slashing programs would also take place in areas including Bendigo, Maldon and Castlemaine, on Crown land blocks and areas near to built-up communities.

“Our strategic fuel management approach gives our firefighters a better chance of controlling fires when they do occur – reducing impacts on people, property and the environment,” Mr Parker said.

“FFMVic and CFA crews conduct planned burns to minimise

fuel loads, which helps to decrease size, intensity and impact of future bushfires.

“In areas where planned burning is less effective, or not suitable to deliver, we focus more on other strategies such as slashing to protect areas close to towns and communities.

“It is important slashing happens late in spring, because if done too early, it will encourage regrowth before summer and require follow-up treatment.”

Forest Fire Management Victoria crews carry out fire preparedness work all year round to ensure that the necessary arrangements are in place to reduce the risk posed by bushfires to our communities.

Rare and striking wildflowers of the Macedon Ranges are celebrated in a combined Newham and District Landcare Group / Woodend Landcare film project.

The two groups have captured stunning images of wildflowers in bloom at Woodend’s Grassland Reserve and Quarry Road Reserve, and along Newham’s rural roadsides.

Newham group secretary Helen Scott said the locations featured were home to many of these natural wonders that add to the Ranges’ coveted biodiversity.

“The variety of species are a treasure trove illustrating the small amount of remnant vegetation remaining from historical clearing for agriculture and settlement,” she said.

Ms Scott said the Woodend Grassland Reserve is a nine-hectare intact grassland that supports a vegetation community considered rare for the region.

“Less than one per cent of Victoria’s original grasslands remain,” she said.

Newham’s rural roadsides feature more than 230 native plant species of high significance - many listed as endangered, vulnerable or depleted.

Among those endangered species are the Matted Flax-lily (Dianella amoena) and Basalt Peppercress (Lepidium hyssopifolium).

Regionally rare or vulnerable species also include the Mountain Flat-pea (Platylobium montanum subsp.prostratum), Blue Grass-lily, (Caesia calliantha), Common Fringe-myrtle (Calytrix tetragona), Scaly Buttons (Leptorhynchos squamatus) and Silky Daisy–bush (Olearia myrsinoides).

Alongside Macedon Ranges Shire Council, the two landcare groups of Newham and Common Heath Woodend have worked for years protecting and revegetating native flora.

They run working bees, community education sessions, provide propagated tubestock and advice to members.

Their work is supported by the council which provides grants for vital weed control.

“Considering future threats such as the impacts of climate change and increasing urban pressures, continued protection and enhancement is critical to conserve the rich biodiversity remaining on public and private land,” Ms Scott said.

The council is responsible for managing parks, roadsides and reserves. Its Biodiversity Strategy 2018 outlines the work protecting and enhancing our unique environment. They also provide resources such as the Flora of the Macedon Ranges booklet.

“Early spring is the best time to see various orchid species, especially in Quarry Road Reserve; they are strikingly beautiful if one is prepared to look closely as they are often small,” Ms Scott said.

“More obvious beauties on roadsides and reserves throughout spring are the many members of the pea family (eg Dillwynia, Daviesia, Pultanaea sp.), Pink Bells (Tetratheca ciliata), the everlasting daisies, lilies, creepers and climbers like Hardenbergia and Clematis, and herbs such as Blue Pincushion (Brunonia australis) and insect-catching Sundews.”

Macedon Ranges residents have until September 20 to give feedback on where mobile and broadband improvements are most needed as part of the state’s Connecting Victoria initiative.

The Victorian Government is planning to fast-track better mobile coverage and broadband across the state through the $550 million Connecting Victoria program.

Macedon Ranges Council CEO Bernie O’Sullivan said this was an important opportunity to highlight connectivity challenges and needs.

“The more residents and businesses that complete this survey and tell the Victorian Government where telecommunications services are needed, the better," he said.

Engage.vic.gov.au/connecting-victoria has an interactive map which will allow you to pinpoint where you are experiencing a problem with mobile coverage or internet.

You will also be asked to describe your digital connectivity problem.

The first locations to receive upgrades or new infrastructure are expected to be announced in late 2021.

Experts from across Australia’s art industry selected 121 finalists from a tremendous field of more than 1000 submissions in the prize.

Results from Healthy Heart of Victoria’s 2019 Active Living Census showed that people who identify as LGBTIQA+ were one of the groups less likely to meet the national recommended guidelines for exercise and physical activity.

Since the publication of the survey results, Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health’s Country LGBTI Inclusion Program has been working with Macedon Ranges Shire Council to find out from local people what might help them increase their participation and identify the particular barriers in the region that are preventing them from exercising.

To explore these issues further, a free workshop has been arranged in conjunction with the director of Proper Pilates Kyneton, Trevor Buckingham.

Guest speakers include Brad Burns from Eclipse gym, exercise physiologist Melissa Sbaraglia, and Stella Lesic, 2020 GLOBE Victoria winner, LGBTIQ Sportsperson of the Year.

Get a jab in Kyneton Central Highlands Rural Health’s vaccination clinic at Kyneton Health has received the long-awaited go-ahead to open its doors to the community.

The vaccination clinic will open on Tuesday September 14 and complement other local vaccine providers in the region.

Working with the Loddon-Mallee Vaccination Hub based at Bendigo Health, Kyneton Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic will administer Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, as per government guidelines.

Central Highlands Rural Health CEO Maree Cuddihy said they were pleased to have secured a small but regular supply of vaccines for the community as a ‘sub-hub’ of the state-run vaccination centre at Bendigo Health.

"The goal here is to get as many people vaccinated as soon as possible and our clinic is one of many providers in our region,” she said.

“Now is the time to pick up the phone or jump on the website and make a booking – whether that’s with our clinic, a state-run vaccination centre, a pharmacy or your local GP. The important message stays the same – everyone in our community should ‘Get the Jab Done’!”

Finding life’s balance Finding the right balance in daily life is not always easy. Particularly at the moment when so many things seem to be outside our control.

"We find that our nervous system reacts to what is happening around us, we get stressed and our mental health begins to suffer. We start to lose our inner balance and sense of wellbeing," says Iris of Amalin Yoga.

"For me, having my daily yoga practice, really helps me to tune, and continue to finetune, my senses," Iris says.

"Learning to listen within, enables me to make healthy and supportive choices on a daily basis and that brings balance into my life.

For those preferring to receive help at home rather than go into an aged facility as they get older, the government’s ‘Home Care Package’ scheme provides an allocation of funds to individuals for them to access services which will enable them to live safely and independently at home.

One of the federal government’s responses to the Royal Commission into aged care back in May was to announce the allocation of 80,000 extra home care packages over the next two years.

Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health has been a Home Care Package provider in Sunbury for the past four years and is expanding its service to include residents of the Macedon Ranges.

The organisation is running a series of information sessions on the types of services that can be purchased through the packages and about My Aged Care, the access point for government funded aged care services.

A new campaign aims help people learn more about shingles – herpes zoster – by raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors of the viral disease.

The latest data from a study in general practice estimates that around 120,000 new cases of shingles occur each year, which accounts for approximately one in 1000 of all GP visits.

Shingles symptoms vary between patients, but for some people it can be a painful and potentially debilitating condition. Shingles is triggered by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus (varicella-zoster virus) in adulthood and it is reported that up to 99.5 per cent of adults less than 50 years of age already have the virus that can cause shingles.

Up to one in three people risk developing shingles in their lifetime. While most people fully recover from shingles, some may experience complications.

Up to 25 per cent of Australians with shingles may develop postherpetic neuralgia, a complication of shingles that can result in persistent nerve pain for months or years after the initial shingles rash resolves.

The campaign sees patients describe their shingles pain as being like “shocks shooting through your body”.

I can only imagine the embarrassment felt by Coliban Water board members and their CEO Damian Wells!

Claiming to have spent $17 million at the Kyneton Water Reclamation Plant and still they have NOT got a 'solution'.

Once again Coliban Water is releasing waste water into the Campaspe River claiming it is within its licence, the same licence which has been acknowledged to be a licence to pollute not a licence to protect the environment!

So far Coliban Water’s 'solution project' amounts to broken promises.

New storages that have already filled to 92 per cent.

CW pumping wastewater into the river again at Kyneton at dilution rates still measured at Redesdale, On Friday, September 3, the flow at Kyneton was around 38 megs/day and 92 megs/day at Redesdale, that’s over DOUBLE! This on the back of recently being convicted in the courts for damage to the environment.

Mr Wells may like to itemise the $17 million he claims has been spent at the Kyneton plant.

He may also like to confirm if it is true that around $7 million will be spent to pipe trade waste water 13km north of Kyneton to irrigate a mere 60 hectares of private property situated on the banks of the Campaspe River and that the Australian taxpayers will contribute $3.75 million to this?

Is this viable irrigation or simple dumping trade waste water?

Commonsense would suggest upgrading the actual plant to produce suitable water for reuse that is safe for the environment and beneficial to the community would be smarter use of funds.

Another day – more dead wildlife on the roadside: in this case, two wallabies 500 metres apart on Gap Road, Cherokee, on September 7. Other local species commonly killed by vehicles include kangaroos and wombats.

The problem probably exists to greater or lesser extents throughout the Macedon Ranges; however, for the sake of this letter, I refer to the forest roads (sealed and unsealed) between Riddells Creek and Cherokee through to Kerrie, and as far north as Mount Macedon.

At any given time there are carcasses on view within these road systems, and the chief reason for the toll is speeding traffic.

These forest roads, mostly unsealed and bordered by heavy trees, are winding and undulating tracks, often potholed, characterised by blind turns and slippery surfaces.

Nevertheless, there are no speed limit signs of any kind, leaving motorists to assume that in the absence of a speed limit it is acceptable to travel at up to 100km/h.

What is a safe speed? Locals know that 50km/h is ‘safe’, i.e. it is usually possible at that speed for a motorist to spot an animal and take evasive action to avoid hitting it.

A year ago I created a petition calling for a speed limit of 50km/h throughout the above-defined road network. That petition, submitted to Macedon Ranges Shire Council in early September 2020, attracted 770 signatures.

Subsequently, Council formally accepted this petition on September 17, 2020, and passed a motion to review speed limits in the designated road networks, not only to minimise wildlife roadkill, but also to enhance pedestrian safety. To the best of my knowledge no further action was ever taken.

I urge local residents to make their own roadside signs urging motorists to slow down to 50km/h to help reduce this wanton carnage, the trauma of which never fades for so many of us.

Last week saw the commencement of a Parliamentary Inquiry into Victoria’s Criminal Justice System. I appeared live at the inquiry to provide evidence.

The Macedon Ranges had two families provide submissions – the Herron and Little families – relating to the tragic murders of our respective daughters. Tracey Oldham from Sunbury also provided evidence.

The Inquiry was only instigated and approved by the government on the basis that the main subject matter was recidivism.

Anything stronger such as an actual lens into the debacle that is the Victorian justice system would have been rejected out of hand by the Andrews Government.

Such is our democracy in action. The readers can make their own judgment.

The government appears to follow a pattern of conducting inquiries when the sole desire is for the subject matter to be dealt with and forgotten.

In Victoria, a quick reflection on the Coates Inquiry into hotel quarantine and recent other inquiries reveal a similar pattern.

Hazy memories, scripted Q&As and an otherwise expensive waste of time are the order of the day.

Let us hope that one day a functioning democracy will return to the State of Victoria.

With the increasing number of electric car charging stations in the region it is important to address a number of common misconceptions about electric vehicles.

Electric car charging stations are increasingly offering renewable energy sourced from the grid for which the supplier pays a premium.

Many electric vehicle owners use their solar panels to charge their car during the day when the power would otherwise go to waste.

Likewise, homeowners can pay a premium to use accredited green energy, for which their supplier pays the renewable energy suppliers for megawatts delivered to the grid.

Where the electric vehicle is charged using energy from conventional sources, countless studies have shown that an electric vehicle is more efficient at using the energy supplied, not to mention the energy expended in mining, shipping and refining the oil.

Ultimately, given the dire need, electric vehicles will be most efficiently deployed in public transport infrastructure and many European and Chinese cities are well advanced in this shift.

Electric cars are not the perfect solution (that would be a bicycle) but as the bridge to something better they are certainly here to stay.

The obscenities painted across the railway bridge in Forest Street have resumed.

The immaturity and malevolence reflected by the language of illiterate hoodlums suggests arrested development and underlying mental problems.

It seems no one who knows the offenders has the guts to come forward and name them publicly, so we can all join in shaming the perpetrators on every possible occasion. Shame on all the cowards involved.

In particular, what will the Hanging Rock area between Mount Macedon and the Cobaw Ranges, Lancefield and Woodend be like in 30-50 years? For those residents like myself saddened by looming global challenges here is a golden opportunity to take direct action right here, right now.

We could showcase a healthy natural world meshing productivity, ecosystems and places of spiritual connection that would generate pride, draw visitors and be the envy of the state.

We only have to look at successful examples in New Zealand and Tasmania.

The recent draft Rural Land Use Strategy is a hodge-podge response to development requests rather than a response to our soils, water, climate, biodiversity and the livelihoods of communities that rest upon them.

We can do better than offer a passive response to ad hoc demands. We can be agents of a bright future.

Three veterinary specialists will review all diagnostic imaging of horses whose connections are seeking to have them compete in the 2021 Victorian Spring Racing Carnival, Racing Victoria has announced.

The panel of internationally renowned equine surgeons and diagnostic imaging specialists will provide RV with their expert opinion on the level of risk of international and local horses competing in this year’s carnival.

RV’s veterinary services team and stewards will then consider the panellists’ opinions to determine the suitability of horses to compete in the Melbourne Cup and/or travel from overseas via the Werribee International Horse Centre.

The compilation of the panel is one of the 41 recommendations outlined in the industry’s International Injury Review released in April to help set a new global safety benchmark for horses competing in the carnival.

The selection of the panel included consultation with industry experts and participants and was led by RV’s general manager – veterinary services, Dr Grace Forbes, and internationally renowned regulatory veterinarian Dr David Sykes.

The five ways to wellbeing Women’s Health Loddon Mallee is highlighting the importance of women’s mental health and wellbeing this Women’s Health Week, with the release of five short documentaries.

Each documentary tells a unique and compelling story of how eight women from across the region have been impacted by the pandemic, and the changes in their lives that have been prompted as a result.

The richness of their stories, and the diversity of their experiences and their backgrounds, shines through in all the interviews, despite only being four-five minutes each in length.

The women all live vastly different lives, each residing in various parts of the region, and each with their own unique ways of coping through the uncertainties and changes they have experienced since the onset of the pandemic.

Despite their differences, the subjects shared one commonality. They all express their gratitude for something in their lives. They all feel lucky to be in the position that they are in, whether it be due to family or other connections, an abundance of open air where they live or their ability to be able to contribute positively to their communities.

The theme of each film centres around one of the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ – a framework that sets out simple actions to improve personal wellbeing, backed by extensive international research. The principles of wellbeing include Connect, Give, Keep Learning,

Be Active, and Take Notice.

Across the Loddon Mallee women have been disproportionately impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a mental health crisis for women in the region, with 35 per cent of women experiencing moderate to severe levels of depression during the COVID-19 crisis, compared to 19 per cent of men.

WHLM hopes that women can view the films and connect through other’s real-life experiences to reflect on their own wellbeing needs.

“We know that our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Yet, for many of us, particularly in times of stress, we can forget to focus in on ourselves and our communities and reflect on what we need to be well,” said Tricia Currie, CEO of WHLM. “Documentary is a powerful tool, and we know that real-life stories can have a tremendous impact for people.

These snapshot films provide an insight into eight women’s lives and the daily wisdoms they follow to be able to cope through the pandemic.”

The films are part of a larger project and campaign that WHLM have delivered alongside project partners Bendigo Community Health Services and Northern District Community Health to highlight the gendered impacts of the pandemic, and the need to build a gender-responsive road to recovery.

New Kyneton Shed team

Kyneton Men’s Shed has a new management team, headed by Ian Curnow as president/treasurer, elected unopposed at the Shed’s recent Annual General Meeting.

Other members of the new management team are deputy president James ‘Keddie, secretary John Mitchell and committee members Bob Grubb, Robin Burgess and Vincent Billan.

Mr Curnow said that, despite the difficulties cause by COVID-19 and the lockdowns, the Shed remained in a healthy condition with members simply wanting the organisation to open again on a regular basis.

“We have a growing membership of some 40 members, outstanding facilities, and a reasonably healthy bank account, although we are always seeking sponsorships,” he said.

“By the time this goes to press, I am hopeful the lockdown will have ended and the Shed will have re-opened.”

Mr. Curnow said he hoped the Shed opening hours would quickly return to Monday to Friday, from 10 am until 3pm, five days a week, COVID-19 permitting.

“The Shed has played, and will continue to play, a vital role in men’s health and wellbeing, in addition to being an important community facility.

“We will continue to undertake important community work, while members will again enjoy the Shed’s regular barbecues which were always popular prior to the various lockdowns – although now we will have to observe COVID19 rules, such as observing social distancing, wearing masks, and using the Shed’s QR code.

“We are Kyneton‘s most popular ‘drop-in’ spot for men, so I would encourage all blokes of any adult age to drop by and check us out. We are on Riverwalk Boulevard opposite Bupacare, and we will certainly make you feel welcome.”

Mental health in conversation

Bringing the arts, science and wellness together, and advocating compassion and connection in community, is the aim of Cate Mercer’s radio program Go Well, a weekly show that goes to air on 94.9 MainFM, Mondays 11am-1pm.

Filled with lots of up-to-date news, research and interviews with experts, Cate is always encouraging her listeners to not just talk about how to be healthy, but to actually do it – apply it to your everyday life.

Having just passed it’s one year anniversary, Cate says it has been a steep learning curve bringing the show together (with the help of her highly-valued production assistant Elizabeth Scanlon), but the show is really now starting to hit its stride – particularly since COVID. “It has only been possible for me to even do this because of my role as editor/ publisher of The Art of Healing magazine, a publication I created and have been producing for almost 20 years," Cate says.

"So I do have the content and very established relationships with a lot of the book publishers, but more recently this year, I reached out to a lot of Australian universities, so I’m getting lots more local research not just global. The content really is of quite a high standard.”

On next week’s show for example, Cate is interviewing Jayashri Kulkarni from Monash Uni about women’s mental health post-COVID. Kulkarni is the founder of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc), a large group dedicated to discovering new treatments, new understanding and new services for people with a range of mental illnesses.

She has conducted groundbreaking clinical research since the late eighties, and is internationally acknowledged as a leader in the field of women’s mental health, in particular for her innovative work on reproductive hormones and mental illness, but also treatments she has developed specifically to suit women’s biological, social and psychological needs.

In the interview that goes to air on Monday, September 20, Cate talks with Jayashri about the issues many women are dealing with that have been exacerbated since COVID, so we can all get a better understanding of what is happening and what we can do about it.

“It’s sometimes quite hard to do these interviews. I am always hyper aware of putting more bad news out there, but we know now that talking about the harder things is so much better than hiding them away,” Cate says.

"In the interview Jayashri says it helps if we look at the issues we are all facing from a spectrum perspective, but you’ll have to listen in to the show for the details … one takeaway for you here though is that she suggests taking the time to write down three or four things a day you can take heart from, or that you feel grateful for ... (some people say just write down five things every day that didn’t totally suck!).

"There are lots more really good tips on this show, so be sure to tune in."

Lisa Dennis During Foster Care Week (September 12-18) leading child welfare organisation Anglicare Victoria is shining a spotlight on the urgent need for more foster carers across the state and the great reasons why people should give foster caring a go.

Here in the north central region there is a critical shortage of carers, which means many local children and young people are being placed in care outside of the region.

Team Leader of Caregiving Services at Anglicare Victoria in the north central region, Sarah Daykin, said they were in critical need of local carers.

"As an example in August we had 24 children requiring placement, unfortunately we were only able to find care for five, which means 19 children had to be placed outside of the region and away from their family, friends and networks," Ms Daykin said.

"We have 86 care households across our north central region, which spans from Wedderburn and Echuca in the north down through the Mount Alexander and Macedon Ranges Shires, but we need more," she said.

Guildford carer Ama has been an accredited foster carer with Anglicare Victoria since October, 2017.

Ama has three teenage children of her own and has been providing

care to a sibling group of three since 2018 with other short-term placements and respites along the way, too.

Ama said being a foster carer had been incredibly rewarding and a wonderful experience for her whole family.

"Every child needs a home and there is such a shortage of carers in our region. Once you see the need its hard to look away," she said.

Ama has provided a range of placements including emergency, respite, short and long-term care to many children and young people.

Ama is currently a full-time stay at home parent for the three girls currently in her care as well as supporting one of her own daughters to do VCE and her other daughter to engage in high schooling.

"It's challenging at times but it's been an incredible experience. Little ones bring such joy into your lives and it is wonderful to see your own children step into the role of older siblings and show care and compassion for others," she said.

Ama said she had been considering becoming a foster carer for about 10 years before making the call.

"I ran out of excuses why I shouldn't do it and decided to have a go.

I have no regrets. Anglicare Victoria have offered wonderful support every step of the way. They are great to work with," she said.

The true cost of caring

Kris Rawlinson gave up a successful career to care for her husband Neal Furze when he had both legs and most of his fingers amputated after falling ill on AFL Grand Final Day in 2017.

Diagnosed with sepsis, a dangerous blood infection, Neal spent 17 days in an induced coma at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where Kris was told on many occasions he would not survive.

Miraculously Neal lived but suffered several minor strokes and would need full-time care for the rest of his life.

Kris and the couple’s two children Eloise and Sam, then aged eight and 11, adjusted to their new life with Neal at their Riddells Creek home, but his ongoing care consumed the family’s world, a world irreversibly tainted with grief, survivor guilt, and an ongoing battle for systemic support.

Three years after Neal fell ill, Kristine relinquished the burden of being her husband’s full time carer to save her own health, her marriage, and her family unit. Neal moved into a respite care facility.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Neal returned home where Kris resumed full-time care, but in mid-2021 Kristine was admitted to hospital with a suspected cardiac arrest.

Before relinquishing Neal’s care, Kristine was paid $131 per fortnight, since then the cost to replicate the care she provided has been $190,000 annually.

Now Kristine is fighting for a better deal for carers and for their true worth to be acknowledged. Kris wants a call for action so that carers can be remunerated through better government-funding initiatives.

"At some stage anyone could be a carer, so it's a huge issue," she said.

"I used to be the health professional and policy maker who used to put extra loads on carers become my focus was getting the best outcome for the people with disability.

"I never actually understood the toll that putting more and more on carers' plate was taking on their mental health, their physical health and even just the change to live their own best life.

"And that could be to pursue a career, to pursue a social life, to participate in exercise, meditation, or even exploring your faith."

Kris said she would like to see more acknowledgement and appreciation for all that carers do.

"It's not just that we do it out of love and care, we do it and it saves the taxpayer an absolute fortune," she said.

"But it's not actually seen as a respected career or vocation choice.

"If I earn more than $3000 a year Neil will lose his disability support pension which

"We'd be financially far worse off."

Coach of the year

A prominent coach in the Riddell League has been awarded AFL Victoria’s Senior Coach of the Year for 2021.

Wallan senior coach Daniel Nolan (pictured) was announced as the winner of the award last week.

It could be the first time that a coach in the RDFNL has won such a prestigious award.

Nolan, in his sixth year with the Wallan club, has provided the Magpies with great results on and off the field in what has been a challenging season.

“It’s an honour to be named coach of the year in Victoria. I’m lucky enough to have an amazing coaching department and leadership group at Wallan,” Nolan said.

“My Dad has certainly been the biggest influence on my coaching career and he will always be at my side.”

“Hopefully next year Wallan can break the club’s premiership drought. We have been building for six years and now have a strong culture and environment.”

RDFNL general manager Jordan Doyle said Nolan was a deserving winner of the award.

“Since Daniel joined Wallan FNC and the RDFNL, he has taken the club from strength to strength. Congratulations on this wonderful honour.”

The AFL Victoria website detailed many of Nolan’s attributes and his approach to the game.

With a secondary level teaching background, he uses a range of techniques to educate, develop and motivate his playing group.

His ‘Team First’ philosophy shows repeatedly that the team functions on system, not individual talent.

Wallan seniors were logical flag favourites, with only one defeat (at Macedon) early in the season.

Minor Premiers

After considering feedback from individual clubs at a meeting last week, the Riddell League decided all football and netball teams that were on top of the ladders when the season was abandoned will be recognised as minor premiers.

Wallan scooped the pool by finishing on top in the Seniors, Reserves and U19.5 football competitions. Riddell topped the A-grade netball, Melton Centrals B and C grades, and Woodend-Hesket the U19.5s.

Premiership cups or individual premiership medals will not be awarded.

The Bowen and Ryan Medals best and fairest count will be held online on the evening of Friday, October 1.

In contrast, the Bendigo League has decided not to recognise minor premiers.

Diminishing hopes that there would be a Bendigo Football Netball League finals series in 2021 were finally snuffed out on Friday.

The season has been cancelled, with no team or individual awards whatsoever in senior ranks.

In a media release, the BFNL’s board of management in conjunction with affiliated clubs, regrettably announced a finals series in any form would not take place.

The board stated that despite the finals roadmap implemented several weeks ago, the latest state government updates offered further uncertainty regarding an actual timeframe for a return to competitive community sport.

“A key consideration in finalising the decision to end the 2021 season included concerns for the welfare of all players and a duty of care to ensure that any return to competition allowed adequate preparation time for participating players, teams, clubs, and volunteers," the board stated.

“BFNL teams have now played a maximum of one

match (zero in some cases) since July 10.

“This is compounded by the recent inability for players to train in a competitive group capacity since August 20, and the continued different restrictions on our metropolitan members."

The board emphasised the cancellation was not the desired outcome the BFNL was striving for in trying to keep the season alive.

As a consequence of the cancellation, the board advised there would not be any premierships – including minor premierships – awarded or recognised.

The league will also not have individual awards, such as best and fairest, as several competitions have become far too compromised.

While disappointing, the board trusted the decision would provide appropriate certainty and closure.

The league thanked all players, volunteers, committees, officials, members, umpires and other key stakeholders for their continued understanding, patience and cooperation during this very challenging time.

Macedon and Romsey coaches re-appointed Bill West Macedon and Romsey have wasted no time in re-appointing their 2021 senior football coaches for the 2022 season.

On Friday, it was announced Paul Kennedy would again be at the helm to follow up on his severely disrupted debut season with the Redbacks.

It was no surprise to see the Riddell District Football Netball League declared the 2021 season cancelled the

previous week due to unworkable time situations with the COVID-19 restrictions across the metropolitan area.

Kennedy has wide football knowledge behind him, being in charge of clubs in country and metropolitan leagues before joining Romsey, which has a good mix of talented players on the list.

A long-time Macedon resident, Meldrum enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a player and coach, with the Cats his favourite club.

He took over in 2020 from Ben Tan-

kard who left the Cats to join WoodendHesket. Unfortunately the 2020 season did not occur because of the pandemic.

This year Meldrum had Macedon poised to make a strong assault on the premiership, with the Cats being the only side to defeat flag favourite Wallan in the home and away matches that were able to be played before the cancellation decision.

The quick re-appointments provide certainty and stability for the Redbacks and the Cats in planning for 2022.

MCDFNL Grand Finals ‘alive’

There appears to be a strong chance that the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League will be able to at least stage a Grand Final this season.

With time running out, it may be possible to have the top two sides in football and netball play off for premiership glory on Saturday, October 2.

The league is reportedly looking at holding the grand finals at Avoca Public Park, due to the unavailability of the traditional

venue at Princes Park.

The two top senior football sides, Harcourt and Trentham, both unbeaten, are conducting training with an optimistic outlook that time spent will not be wasted.

A Trentham spokesperson said government lockdown restrictions had made a final series difficult to schedule, and there might be no way matches other than the grands finals could be played.

Further clarification from the MCDFNL is anticipated this week.

Photo: Gisborne Gazette Bill West The countdown is on for the opening of the 2021-2022 pennant season for the new Highlands Playing Area (formerly known as Central Highlands Bowling Division).

Highlands and Ballarat are the two areas within the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region. With improved weather conditions and some relaxation of the lockdown restrictions, bowlers are now able to practice under strict guidelines. It does not seem long since Lancefield won the2020-2021 division one grand final, and Trentham finished up with premiership flags in divisions 2 and 3.

Region chairman Ian Guymer anticipates the Highlands area Saturday pennant first round will be on Saturday, October 2 (subject to confirmation).

Midweek pennant is likely to open on Tuesday, October 12.

Region and area meetings have been held in recent months, and Highlands has appointed various committees appointed.

Once again Terry Kelly will be responsible for BowlsLink, while John Coates (Kilmore) and Gary Templar (Romsey) are on the Highlands match committee. The inclusion of Kilmore and Broadford bowling clubs into the Highlands area has been largely welcomed.

A virtual meeting is to take place next Monday involving all clubs.

The first round division one fixture is: Broadford v Kyneton.

Gisborne v Kilmore.

Kyneton Golf v Trentham.

Lancefield v Romsey.

Many Romsey Golf Club members and other locals were keen to ‘get back on the park’ on Saturday with the latest lockdown rules relaxed.

Club captain Mal Mottram hit off on the first tee in sunny conditions.

“We’re just happy to be able to have a hit again,” he said.

“The Romsey course is in great condition at present, and we hope to be able to get back to normality soon."

There were plenty of friendly ‘welcome backs’ exchanged across fairways.

While there was no club competition allowed, it was still interesting to see some of the stableford scores returned as groups came in.

The verdict was while lockdown may have keep individuals safe, it has had a negative impact on on course performances. But still a great day.

The women’s tournament scheduled at Romsey last Thursday has been transferred to Monday, November 15. Entrants for other Dalhousie clubs and further afield welcome.

Simon Keating was Mount Macedon Golf Club’s Jumbuck Sheepskin and Leather monthly medallist for July.

Mount Macedon A massive sigh of relief and collective hoorah could be heard across the Macedon Ranges when it was announced the regions were partly headed out of lockdown.

Immediately there was a torrent of emails flying with requests for tee times.

No great scores were recorded at Mount Macedon golf course on Saturday, but just to be out on the fairways again was enough to celebrate.

Judging by the state of hairstyles hidden beneath caps, the local barbers should see brisk business in coming weeks.

Congratulations to Bruce Fraser upon his nomination for Golf Australia’s Visionary of the Year award.

This celebrates and rewards the terrific work being delivered across Australia to promote gender equality in golf. The nomination is testament to the instrumental role Bruce has played in bringing women into golf and the game’s leadership.

Ladies Get Into Golf at MMGC was recognised for its creative efforts to engage more women in golf.

Golf Australia recognises the outstanding work in leading change and innovation in golf, helping it to become a sport where women are inspired to participate, feel welcome and be nurtured throughout.

Leaders again Mount Macedon Golf Club’s recent annual general meeting was held via Zoom, and was a celebration of the club despite the constraints of the past 18 months.

Key office-bearers Matt Willis, Marcus Ward and Brian Collins were re-elected to the respective positions of president, secretary and treasurer.

Michael ‘Mick’ Doyle was welcomed to the club’s captaincy role.

Peter Palmer joined the management committee, along with Tony Littman, Gary Liddy, Peter Semmens, Nathan Farley and Dave ‘Rock’ Hudson.
