Over The Moon
Netflix’s Over the Moon was directed by Disney legends, Glen Keane and John Kahrs. This animated musical tells the story of young Fei Fei and her journey to the moon to meet the Moon Goddess, Chang'e.
Over the Moon is about a young girl, Fei Fei, four years after her mother has passed away. Fei Fei learns that her father is planning on remarrying and decides she needs to put a stop to this. In order to convince her father that love is everlasting, even through death, Fei Fei plans a trip to the moon goddess, Chang’e. According to Chinese legend, Chang’e has been waiting for an eternity on the moon for her true love, Houyi, to return to her. Similar to Chang’e, Fei Fei wants her father to wait to see her mother again, so she decides she just needs to prove Chang’e is real to her father.
The movie’s apparent Disney feel is not surprising due to both the director and co-director having worked previously in Disney Studios as animators. Director Glen Keane is best known for his work on Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. While Co-Director John Kahrs worked at Disney and Pixar prior to working on this movie. He has worked on films such as Tangled and Toy Story 2. While researching the creation of Over the Moon, I came across the original writer of the script, Audrey Wells. This was the last script she wrote before passing away from cancer in 2018. Wells wrote this script as a love letter to her husband and daughter. She had been battling cancer for five years, and this script was her way of showing her loved ones how she wants them to move on and embrace change after she passes. She knew she had little time left and even told Glen Keanes as much, about a year before she passed away.
The bright colors and excitement of the moon was perhaps one of the most enjoyable aspects of this movie. When people picture the moon, they usually don’t picture a rainbow planet full of jelly-animal creatures. Not to mention the Chang’e concert that would put any pop star to shame. While on the moon, Fei Fei befriends a green, dog-like creature named Bogi who helps her out. Another notable moment that resonates with many MCHS students is when Fei Fei is studying physics and drinking boba in her room. I couldn’t help myself but laugh because I felt like I had just been in that position with science homework just the night before. Overall, I enjoyed this movie more than most Disney animated films I’ve seen. I loved the addition of Chinese legend in the story. I would recommend watching this if you like children’s musicals such as Frozen or Mulan (the animated version). 4
Dear My Cat is a cute relaxing game available on the Google Play and Apple app store. If you love cats or anything cute, I recommend playing this adorable, beautiful game. The game was released last month on September 29, 2020. I started playing about a week ago after I saw an ad for it on Instagram. My first look at the game reminded me of the Tap Tap Fish aquarium game that I saw many ads about. For this game, it seems like you play to collect cats and watch them walk around and do stuff. The game recommends you to wear headphones while playing. I admit the music of the game is very relaxing and ethereal. The goal of the game is to expand your sky island and invite more cats/animals via the train station. In order to do these things, you will need to build structures that will be the source of your income. You would also need to collect hearts from your cats to upgrade your island and structures. The cats and animals that visit your island have adorable designs and descriptions of their character. If you have a particular cat that you love, you can gift them things to increase your friendship with them. Personally, I’m a sucker for big fat white cats. I give them lots of fish as gifts so I can make them wear a top hat. At each friendship level, you have the ability to dress them up with accessories and clothes. As your island develops, you can appreciate the scenery and the cute interactions of your cats. I am unsure of the story behind how the cat sky island came to be. The train that you unlock at the beginning of the game allows you to invite cats to go to your island. I have a hunch that the train actually helps cats go to heaven, which is the island that you are developing. It is my interesting theory about the game, which makes me sad but go “aw” at the same time. 5
GAME REVIEW:
Dear My Cat After playing for a while, I find that Dear My Cat is an idle simulator game because it doesn’t require much effort or grind to progress through the game. I would occasionally pop in the game and play for around 10 minutes throughout the day. It is not a game that I would stress to spend hours on. It definitely relaxes me whenever I hop on. This game is a nice thing to do if you’re bored. I would rate this game 3 stars out of 5. The loveable cats and outfits make the game enjoyable. However, I did find myself losing motivation to log in every day. I recommend this game if you need something to play for a short time. Hope you guys enjoyed this issue’s Game Review. Dining with Dragons By Elizabeth Rocili
Avenue Grill is a restaurant in Lodi that serves breakfast and lunch. They are open every day from 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Avenue Grill is available for indoor dining, outdoor dining, and they also have an outdoor patio. Although it is starting to get colder outside, it is still nice to sit outside and eat because they have a few heaters outside. I didn’t really know what it would be like sitting outside here because it has gotten cold in the mornings lately, but it was actually nice. This restaurant has a lot of breakfast items, including pancakes, french toast, omelettes, and breakfast quesadillas. They also have a lot of lunch items, including burgers, salads, and sandwiches. I ordered the carnitas quesadilla, which is one of my favorite breakfast items. This quesadilla was amazing, and it is filled with so much meat, eggs, cheese, and potatoes. I thought that there was a lot of pork inside the quesadilla, which made it taste really delicious. The crispy tortilla was also something that tasted really good about this dish. Something that I also liked was the cheese that was sprinkled on the top. Not only was there a lot of cheese inside the carnitas quesadilla, but there was also additional cheese sprinkled on the top, which in my opinion made it taste so good. The breakfast at Avenue Grill is really good, and I almost always order this meal. The service at Avenue Grill is excellent, and it did not take too long to get the food once we ordered it. We did have to wait a little while, but that was because there were so many people there. My family and I like to go here a lot because we enjoy the breakfast food so much, especially the carnitas quesadilla. The food wasn’t too pricey, and each meal had a decent serving size. This meal that I ordered had a lot of food and was only $12.99. I would give this restaurant a 5 out of 5 stars because of the delicious food and great service. If you like breakfast food and lunch food, you should definitely try Avenue Grill in Lodi! 7

2020 Election Results By: Jaskaran Bajwa
I
’m sure everyone has heard at this point, but the American people have elected a new presidential ticket into the White House. Former Vice President Joseph Biden and Junior Senator from California Kamala Harris have been elected as the new President and Vice President of the United States of America. This victory comes after a contentious election, and as I write this, the sitting President Donald Trump has yet to concede. Donald Trump alleges that there has been widespread voter fraud that is “Unthinkable and illegal in this country…”
This behavior is highly unusual as past sitting presidents have conceded as soon as the election was called. President Trump has been using Twitter to voice his “concerns” about the alleged voting fraud. The GOP or Republican party has tried to file lawsuits in many key states such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, to contest the results. While Trump and the GOP will likely continue to file lawsuits, they will likely not change the result. The Trump campaign has filed a lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Secretary of State to stop ratification of the results, according to The Hill. 9
The filing of lawsuits has not stopped President-Elect Joe Biden from accepting his victory. He made his acceptance speech from his home state of Delaware. His speech in stark contrast to the tone of President Trump. He spoke of a united future and a potential way to unite America, which in recent years has become deeply divided.
unfavorable results. Their majority in the House of Representatives has shrunk, and they only saw one net gain in the senate. Going into the race, there was confidence that the Senate would flip, but key races in South Carolina, Maine, Montana, and North Carolina did not turn out as hoped. These results put a barrier in the path of the next Biden administration to confirm judges and pass legislation, but there is hope. In Georgia, there is a runoff election scheduled for both their senate seats and judging from the election results there is a chance they may flip.
While Donald Trump may not recognize the results of the election, the leaders of the world have already congratulated him and Vice President-Elect Harris. Presidents and Prime Ministers of the world have sent their congratulations to President Biden. To name a few: Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison, Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Treaude, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and many more. This comes as a shock as President Trump has not conceded just yet. This could be why President Trump is disliked among world leaders, or more likely just a simple congratulations.
In seeing the results many look for a reason as to why the Democrats are narrowly holding on to their majority. Many such as New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez or “AOC” have blamed the democratic leadership. She states that the party lacked, “ core competencies…” according to The Guardian. Many also have accused the farleft of the Democratic Party of spreading fears of “socialism”.
Some of Trump’s party have spoken out against the President’s actions. Utah Senator Mitt Romney has stated, “When you say that the election was corrupt or stolen or rigged, that's, unfortunately, rhetoric that gets picked up by authoritarians around the world…” according to NBC. These words come at a time when Attorney General Barr has allowed prosecutors to investigate alleged cases of voter fraud.
While the politics are all over the place, it is a time to celebrate the election of a new President and the first Female, South Asian, and African-American VicePresident. As of right now, the future is still unclear.
While the topic of the election and voter fraud will likely continue for the next four years, it is important to look at the future. In Congress, Democrats faced 10

Native American Heritage Month By: Chau Anh Nguyen
With November being Native American Heritage Month, it is especially important for us now than ever to learn more about indigenous history and issues, as well as uplift and support indigenous creators! Here are just a few ways you can honor Native American Heritage Month if you’re not of indigenous background! 1. Knowing the Land We Are On One of the best and most crucial ways we can honor Native American Heritage Month is by learning about the land that we reside on. Long before Stockton was established, this land was home to the Yatchicumne, which is a group of the Northern Valley Yokuts that have lived here for thousands of years before the arrival of the Europeans. They had established villages alongside areas, such as Mormon Slough, the Stockton Deepwater Channel, and Bear Creek. They also built their structures on low mounds to keep their homes above floods. The Stockton Channel, located between Edison and Harrison Streets, in actuality, is originally the Yokut village called Pasasimas.
being Native American Heritage Month, we can and must further educate ourselves on the Yokuts’ history in order to properly acknowledge the land that we’re on. You can learn further information from numerous places, such as Stockton’s Haggin Museum (they have a detailed Native American gallery) and San Joaquin Delta College Library (they offer numerous books on the indigenous people of the San Joaquin county). 2. Learning About the History of Native Americans During this month and thereafter, you can also explore the history of indigenous people in the Americas alongside learning about the history of the Yokuts. There are over 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S., and learning about indigenous history is critical to being an ally to the Native American community.

Supporting Indigenous Journalists Throughout history, many cultures—including indigenous cultures—told their stories through oral tradition before written media. With the lack of light on Native American issues and lack of Native American representation in the mainstream media, many indigenous-orientated news platforms have been established by the Native American community to inform the public about stories and issues pertaining to the group.

Supporting Indigenous Influencers and Activists Another way to uplift Native Americans is by listening to and following indigenous public figures. It is essential that we listen to indigenous figures regarding indigenous issues and causes, because they are the ones who know how to best address the subject due to their cultural experiences.
