Carrie Healey gave thanks on behalf of her father, coach Steve Healey. By Chris Lundy BERKELEY – The Central Regional High School track was named in honor of coach Steve Healey, who was praised for keeping kids going in

the right direction. As head coach from 1976 to 2001, he had 25 winning seasons out of 26. His career record was 188-51. These are great statistics, but for those

who competed in track and field for him, they knew that his impact was more than just numbers. “This is the biggest highlight of his sports career,” his daughter Carrie

Clean Communities Grants Given Locally

By Chris Lundy BERKELEY – Several local towns have received Clean Communities Grants from the state that will be used to clear litter, making areas safer and nicer places to live. The funding comes through the State Department of Environmental Protection. A total of $21.4 million is being distributed statewide, an increase of $700,000 over last year, Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette said. The money is generated by a user fee on manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributers that produce litter-generating products. “This is good news for Berkeley taxpayers and local non-profit, civic and community groups,” Berkeley Mayor Carmen Amato said. “The Township will use a portion of this grant to offset salaries of employees that clean and maintain our parks and beaches along with the funding of mini-grants to local non-profit civic and community groups that take advantage of our ‘Adopt a Spot’ or ‘Adopt a Road’ program.” Organizations interested in taking part (Communities - See Page 5)
