Kittens Showered With Love At Adoption Event
By Chris Lundy BEACH WOOD – About a dozen heartwarming cats and kittens were at a Kitten Shower donation and adoption event – and that’s only a fraction of the animals available for good homes. This was the 5th annual event, held every year at the Beachwood Fire House, said Tana Wilberg, treasurer of Calling All Cats Rescue. The ultimate goal, of course, was to find homes for the animals. There were some full grown cats, some just a few months old, and even some just a few weeks old that had to be bottle fed. Currently, their home is at a rescue in Jackson, but they are waiting for “furever homes.” Volunteers brought trays of food for the f r e e b u f fe t . Central School Budget Not Hurt By State Aid Cuts
By Patricia A. Miller BERKELEY – The Cent ral Regional school district budget is up slightly from last year, but three of the five towns will see little to no increase in their school tax bill, the district administrator said. “I am happy to report that Berkeley and Ocean Gate are seeing little to no increase and Island Heights is seeing a healthy decrease,” business Administrator
Kevin O’Shea said. “In addition Seaside Heights is seeing a modest increase. Unfortunately, however the Central Regional funding formula was very rough on Seaside Park.” The Seaside Park increase is a result of the ratio of students in grades 7 through 12 increasing “dramatically” over the past year, due to a large graduating class and some (Budget - See Page 6)

NJ Heads Into Wildfire Season: What You Need To Know
By Kimberly Bosco On the heels of the Spring Hill forest fire that blazed through more than 11,000 acres of the Pinelands in Burlington County recently, the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service is speaking out to inform residents on what they do and what to expect when it comes to fighting fires. The Spring Hill fire sparked up a little less than a month ago on March 30, 2019. As the most significant forest fire we have seen this year, the blaze burnt through 11,600 acres of forest in
Washington and Woodland Townships. Shawn Judy, Assistant Division B Firewarden, said that the fire’s cause is still under investigation. In the meantime, State Forest Fire Service officials held a press conference on April 24 to discuss the wildfire terminology, the process of prescribed burning, wildfire season, forest fires to date, and prevention as New Jersey heads into official wildfire season. She was born with a very small left coronary ventricle in 2000. That meant there would not be one day, one week, or one year that her life would not be terribly affected by her handicap.
