By Chris Lundy TOMS RIVER – Five years ago, the Ocean County Prosecutor didn’t need a platform, said Bradley Billhimer, the man who took over that job in October. The prosecutor’s job used to be more straightforward, as being one of the top law enforcement officers in the region. You
lock up bad guys and protect people. The opioid epidemic changed all that. Ocean County saw 53 overdose deaths in 2012. This doubled to 112 reported overdose deaths in 2013. Magahan was instrumental in helping to restore him, said Anthony Zangari, who owns the plaza and the dinosaur. (Dinosaur - See Page 4)

as part of a slate of Democrats in a traditionally Republican town. The Democrat mayor that had been her running mate, Ronald Jones, wound up step-
ping down amid controversy. Verga became interim mayor to finish up Jones’ term. She ran for mayor, but lost to Ronald Roma, who is still mayor today.

“I’m a conservative Democrat. Nobody believes that but I am,” she told the Ocean Count y Observer at the time. “We should help those who cannot
help themselves, but we cannot afford it on the backs of others.” Born in Paterson, she later moved to Beachwood. She had
