Resident Urges Speed Enforcement
By Chris Lundy BERKELEY – Citing an excessive number of speeders, resident Carol Scherm said she’s been asking for extra police presence at the intersection of Northumberland and Martinique drives. She brought the issue up at the latest Township Council meeting. Recently, blinking speed limit signs were installed and that helped, but there are still speeders. “It’s not outsiders. It’s our own people,” she said. She wants a police presence there. Chief Karin DiMichele said that there have been officers in the area writing tickets recently. It seems like
it’s time to put that neighborhood back in the rotation for traffic enforcement. Scherm said that as long as officers are around to at least issue warnings, then there will be an improvement. “We are beyond issuing warnings,” the chief said. A Bayville resident, Rich Ryan, suggested using an older police car as a decoy in the area. He said he has seen some in the township’s yards looking unused. DiMichele said those vehicles are undriveable and being used for spare parts for the fleet.
