HELLO ALICE GRANT OPPORTUNITY The Small Business Growth Fund provides the capital entrepreneurs need to make their next big move. Each recipient will receive a $5,000 grant, provided by Mastercard, to accelerate their growth and help make 2022 the year of their small business.

OPERATION HOPE SMALL-BUSINESS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM The Operation Hope program is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs in low-wealth neighborhoods, which often include minority communities. The program combines business training, and financial counseling along with access to small-business financing options. Participants shall complete a 12-week training program, plus workshops on business financing and credit and money management.
CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE THE AMBER GRANT FOUNDATION The Amber Grant Foundation awards one $10,000 grant to a small business owner per month. In this case, however, grants are offered only to female entrepreneurs, and they’re intended specifically to help new entrepreneurs launch their businesses. Once awarded with one of the $10,000 monthly grants, the beneficiary will also be nominated for the Amber Grant’s yearly $25,000 grant.

The program will provide $100 million in economic assistance to Michigan’s small businesses, and nonprofits, and, in turn, help support workers and their families, facing economic uncertainty during the outbreak.

On May 9th the MMSDC team participated in Solutions for Diverse Suppliers & Supply Chain Resilience: Capital, Contracting & Export Promotion, a panel hosted hosted by the U.S. Department of Commerce and led by Deputy Secretary Don Graves with federal partners SBA and Treasury. MMSDC President and CEO Michelle Sourie Robinson kicked off the day by welcoming the Deputy Secretary to an industry roundtable with key major corporations. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters, as well as Congresswomen Brenda Lawrence and Rashaida Tlaib were also present in addition to our own Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist.

SILICON VALLEY COMES TO DETROIT PLUG N PLAY powered by Amplify D opens its doors in Tech Town Detroit on the Campus of Wayne State University on March 13, 2022 It’s here Yall! Through the efforts of Michelle Sourie Robinson, the MMSDC President & CEO, Detroit has become the new Silicon Valley. Robinson, the visionary who focused on finding the right fit for launching an accelerator for mobility and diverse startups in Detroit, trekked to Silicon Valley in 2020 and interviewed several businesses until finding synergy with Plug N Play and their open innovation platform for the right fit for Detroit! Through this effort, Robinson was able to form partnerships to take this to the next level. By partnering with top Corporations to support the next generation of minority suppliers in cutting edge technology opportunities were created, programs were developed, and Detroit will be that hubbub for tech startups. Through a relationship with Lawrence Tech University grants were available offering MMSDC MBEs an “I4.0 Demo Grant.” This pool of $110,00 total funding allows $5,000 per project to offset the cost of implementing I4.0 technologies. The grants are available for Michigan companies of all sizes, and help growing, forward-thinking advanced manufacturing and technology companies transform their businesses by adopting cutting-edge technologies.

Centrepolis is also making $1000 micro-grants available to MBEs that wish to bring a product development expenditure of a new physical product, advanced material or advanced manufacturing technology. https://www.i40accelerator.com/demo-fund GM also became involved recognizing and utilizing innovative technology through AmplifyD. The cohort created by GM for minority-owned suppliers to work on EV tech, a pipeline for these companies to access further business and growth opportunities with GM. For the inaugural phase of this program, GM looked to MMSDC to recommend suppliers, and invited 8 AmplifyD companies to participate. Ms. Marshall joined Kelly in 1997 and served in a variety of managerial positions over 24 years with almost 20 years as a diversity specialist. With two decades of SD Management, she was responsible for developing strategies, designing processes and building alliances to support Kelly and clients overall strategic objectives for Supplier Diversity and Inclusion (SD&I). Under her leadership, Kelly SD continued to grow and expand across global operations. Receiving national recognition every year for its’ SD&I efforts. Brenda’s solution-driven approach measures success based on contributions not transactions. She has built an inclusive network of diverse partners and perspectives that promote greater SD engagement, innovation and deliver bottom-line results for sustainable value. Throughout her career, Brenda has been highly involved in the SD&I Community and is viewed as an integral thought leader within the industry. She served on a number of boards and is involved in a wide range of professional business organizations. Ms. Marshall is president of the Board for Diversity Information Resources (DIR), and the Council of Supplier Diversity Professionals (CSDP) and serves on the Blended Collective Multi-Cultural Executive Advisory Board. ENT’S CORNER This May’s recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is different, and it should be. The treatment of Asian by some of our fellow Americans during the COVID 19 pandemic revealed another unhealed wound in our country’s perceived nationalism. I encourage you to read the NYT’s article titled “How It Feels to Be Asian in Today’s America!” for direct insights from Asian Americans. Every group deserves to have its individuality recognized and celebrated, and we are doing just that here at the MMSDC. This month our MBE Spotlight is on Varchasvi Shankar, President & CEO V2Soft Group. V2Soft has been helping companies with technology, IT staffing, and outsourcing since 1998. Now, in the midst of the “great resignation,” having great partners like Shankar takes on new relevance. Learn more about his and other firms in this issue.
