Doing Business for Over 20 Years

Restoration Shop your one stop Restoration Shop

When it comes to restoring cars, cutting corners is simply not an option for us, and our decades of experience in the business makes Cliff Avenue stand out from all the rest. A detailed and high-quality finished project is our signature mark. This is accomplished by perfecting every detail, such as having all the original correct bolts, correct plating, correct colors, correct upholstery and stunning paint jobs.

If you’re not looking for a flawless original but are looking for something customized, our staff has the ability and skill to complete specialized vehicles as well.

With O’Riley Custom Detailing

Ryan O’Riley, owner of O’Riley Custom Detailing, has been detailing cars since his teens, starting out in the Arlington area where he lived at the time. In his teenage years, most of the detailing he did was for his buddies, making cars look their best for the street or prepping for a car show. Professionally, Ryan opened his own shop in 2019 in Arlington and then moved to Tea in 2022.

O’Riley Custom Detailing is now located at 220 North Linda, Suite 4, in the Tea Industrial Park (to the rear of StraightLines Custom Restorations). Since opening in Tea, Ryan has worked hard to establish OCDetailing as the premier detailing shop in the area through his obsession with perfection and positive connections with customers…and their cars.

Feast your eyes on this stunning 1971 Chevelle SS convertible! Following a restoration at StraightLines Custom Restorations, Lyle and Brenda Bode brought their freshly restored Chevelle to OCDetailing for ceramic coating. Lyle knew that a professionally applied ceramic coating would protect the new finish and further enhance the deep shine.

The Bodes have owned the car for “around 20 years.” The ’71 Chevelle features a 402 cubic inch Chevy big block engine coupled to a Muncie 4-speed transmission. Lyle, who farms northwest of Mitchell, SD, did all the mechanical, chassis, floor pans, and rust repair before bringing the car to StraightLines. He’s very familiar with the quality of work there, as this is the third vehicle that they have restored for him. StraightLines did the finish body work, paint, interior, and final assembly. Viewers all agree that the Sunset Orange Metallic, a BMW color, is accented nicely by the brown interior and convertible top.

While Ryan O’Riley performs a variety of detailing services, including interior, exterior, engine bay, wheels/tires, and paint correction, ceramic coating is his specialty. Ryan exclusively uses the System X Automotive Protection System. Ryan explains that

the System X Max Ceramic he applies has 30% more protection and gloss than factory automotive clear coats. (Ryan has learned that as a cost-cutting measure, new automotive manufacturer clear coats are much thinner than they once were. System X Max Ceramic Coating is actually thicker than most current new car clear coat finishes.) For these reasons, new car owners and classic car owners (like the Bodes) bring their vehicles in for professional ceramic coating.

In the world of ceramic coatings, there is a wide variety of products…and results. Ceramic coating professionally applied by OCDetailing is vastly different than the spray ceramic a person can pick up at the local automotive store. Some spray-on ceramics may last six months to a year or so, but without proper surface preparation, the depth of shine won’t be the same, and the product certainly won’t provide the

hardness/protection of System X products. The System X Max product provides from 10 years up to lifetime protection if properly maintained annually! It should also be noted that Ryan offers windshield ceramic to protect glass and aid water dispersal, as well as ceramic for wheels and plastics.

Several steps are involved in a professional ceramic coating application:

• Thoroughly wash the vehicle

• Decontaminate (remove iron particles/rail dust/other contaminants)

• Clay bar the finish and remove water spots

• Buffing and polishing (adds shine and removes fine swirls and other marks)

• Apply the ceramic coating

Ryan’s philosophy in his field is that it’s “all about the experience.” Auto enthusiasts are a dedicated group; they’re interested in and enthusiastic about their vehicles.

On many vehicles, this is a three-day process. Ryan stresses that if you skip any of the steps in the process, you don’t receive the full benefit of the ceramic coating.

Ryan is a believer in staying current with the latest trends and technology in the business. In March of this year, he was invited by System X to join a select group of detailers at the Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas, TX. (Many of you have probably watched Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage on TV shows and YouTube video productions.) In this two-day seminar, Ryan learned about new products and tools, and showed off his skills coating some high-end cars in the garage. Through interacting with the other detailers present, Ryan picked up valuable tips and expanded his network of resources. Attending seminars of this nature is a part of Ryan’s ongoing effort to offer his customers the best products and services available.

As noted earlier, Ryan provides a variety of detailing services. Many customers use OCDetailing for thorough interior or exterior detailing as needed. Perhaps it’s routine just to keep your vehicle looking its best, or maybe you’re going to sell or trade a vehicle. A nicely detailed vehicle has increased value! And don’t forget the engine bay…Ryan can keep those looking like new, also.

Motorcycles haven’t been mentioned yet, but Ryan details and/or ceramic coats them, too. Vintage Japanese and British motorcycles, Harleys, Trikes, and UTVs have all been in the shop recently. If you want to keep it looking its best, OCDetailing is your place.

For the do-it-yourselfer, OCDetailing features the Deluxe Car Care line of detailing products. This includes everything from tire shine

2023 Corvette Stingray

to a spray detailer to a great waterless wash product. Wash buckets, mitts, microfiber towels, and other accessories are also available. Quality advice on how to use any of these products is available and free!

And, speaking of accessories, OCDetailing carries the WeatherTech line of products. WeatherTech offers a wide range of automotive accessories. These include floor liners, seat protectors, mud flaps, bug deflectors, bed covers, and much more! (Check the WeatherTech website to see the full line.) Ryan offers very competitive pricing and prompt delivery for these products.

In this day and age, where customer service often seems to be a lost art, OCDetailing excels! Ryan is committed to quality customer service. If a customer's vehicle needs a touch-up to correct a blemish, Ryan is happy to handle it, even on short notice if necessary. A large percentage of his customers are repeat customers, often having brought in several vehicles over the years. Many are in a few times a year having classics prepped for an upcoming show. Word-of-mouth recommendations about OCDetailing have spread throughout the Sioux Falls area car community; a true testament to the quality of work provided.

Ryan is active in the area automotive scene, being a sponsor of multiple car shows and an active member of area car clubs. He cohosts a major cruise night with StraightLines in September each year, as well as club seminars and open houses at the shop

throughout the year. And, as time permits, he enjoys showing his beautifully restored 1954 Ford Skyliner, a multiple best-ofshow winner! Ryan enjoys being in touch with his customers, friends, and fellow enthusiasts through all his involvement in the hobby.

Ryan’s philosophy in his field is that it’s “all about the experience.” Auto enthusiasts are a dedicated group; they’re interested in and enthusiastic about their vehicles. By getting to know his customers and offering outstanding customer service, the customer is likely to come away with pride in their vehicle and the feeling of a positive experience. Whether it be a muscle car, exotic, vintage classic, street machine, truck, motorcycle, or brand-new vehicle, Ryan at OCDetailing is here for you!

Ryan at the Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas,

In 1978, Clay Meyer was a young, 15-year-old kid living at home on the east side of Sioux Falls. When he wasn’t in high school studying, he was working, earning a buck, and was heavily influenced by country music. And more specifically, because most themes in country music then were based around pickup trucks, which everyone thought was cool at the time. One day, without thinking about it, he noticed a neighbor three houses away had a 1966 Ford pickup for sale for $600 that he thought was a deal. Clay had saved part of the money from working, and after showing it to his dad while realizing the truck was only 12 years old, his dad helped him with the difference so he could get the pickup to have something to drive.

There was a little bit of a learning curve with driving the truck, as he had never driven a vehicle with a manual transmission before, but he mastered it quickly. The truck served him well, too, and from school through his junior and senior years, to work, and cruising the loop for fun with his friends riding along. Then, after graduating from high school at the age of 17, he signed up to be in the Air Force and wound up being stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, California. The pickup truck was left in the driveway at his parents’ house as he ventured out to do his stint for the next four years. While being located too far away from everything, Clay realized he needed a vehicle that got good gas mileage to get around.

After talking to his dad about having a vehicle that got good gas mileage, his dad found a Subaru for him that would do the trick for good gas mileage. Clay, upon returning to Sioux Falls on leave to pick up the Subaru to drive back, realized that the pickup was nowhere in sight. Asking his dad about it, his dad responded by saying, “Well, since I put the down payment on the Subaru, I gave the pickup to a friend who needed it!” I don’t think Clay knew how to respond to what his

dad said, but he reluctantly drove the Subaru back and forth from South Dakota to California for the next few years.

Now fast forward to today with Clay having a family of his own with five kids and five grandchildren, Clay told me that over time, he had been watching and looking quite often for another 1966 Ford pickup. Because of that, his wife and kids all thought he was getting a little bit older to be messing around with an old truck. In January of 2021, after putting out a random search notice for a 66 Ford pickup, one popped up when he least expected it, located in Huntington, Maryland, at a business called “Old Town Automotive.”

After seeing a walk-around video and a mountain of photos, he called them immediately to get the lowdown on the pickup. They wanted to know how he saw it so quickly, as they had just posted it minutes earlier. He responded by telling them he had been looking for years every other day. They were surprised as well as Clay. The Old Town company proceeded to tell the story about a couple looking for an old pickup, and Old Town, through their connections, had one built for them. It was a frame-off build starting with the best parts from two trucks to build one, and doing everything involved in the finished product. When it came to the time of delivery, the couple had changed their mind and wanted something different. The business was straightforward with Clay, saying all they wanted out of the pickup was what they had in it, with having it built.

After a bit more talking, Clay, understanding the position that Old Town was in, made an agreement on the price. Clay said, “Well, I am

Love Struck To

happy to have finally found this pickup, but I have no way to get it right away because of a blizzard going on right now here in South Dakota. They responded, telling him they would deliver it to South Dakota in an enclosed trailer for $1,800. Clay couldn’t be happier with the anticipation of the way everything came together. On the delivery day, Clay was surprised to see this long car trailer that had held two other cars earlier in it beside his pickup. His pickup was the last stop for the driver. Clay mentioned that the driver didn’t speak English and wouldn’t let Clay back the truck out of the trailer, even though the driver could not figure out how to shift the truck into reverse. Finally, the driver got the truck backed out and while still behind the wheel, insisted on driving it into Clay’s garage for him. Clay said he was a bit nervous as the driver had it in third gear, trying to get it into the garage.

Once in the garage, Clay breathed a sigh of relief, signed papers, and the driver was on his way back east. As hard as it was, Clay waited a few months for winter to go away before he drove it. As the truck sat in the garage, Clay was pleasantly surprised as he checked it out, as to how clean the truck

was top to bottom. It appeared as though there wasn’t anything untouched, making it feel new, as it would have come from the factory. Because of that, Clay commented he wouldn’t be afraid of buying again from the Old Town Automotive business.

He loved the American Racing wheels the truck came with, which caught his eye when he first saw them online, which was a hot item in the era of his first pickup. While the odometer showed 50,000 miles on it, he is not sure if that is correct or not, but it runs and drives great. Over the last couple of years, he had the windows tinted and installed a tonneau cover over the box as well as a stereo radio with Bluetooth. He also wants to install a dual-feed power brake setup and power steering, which will make it perfect for an old truck in his mind. If you ever see this truck, take a closer look at it and see how really nice it is!

Sertoma Shine and Show Where Classic Cars Meet Community Service

Every summer, the unmistakable gleam of chrome and the rumble of classic engines signal something special in Sioux Falls: the return of the 5th Annual Sertoma Shine and Show. While the cars may draw the crowd, the mission behind the event keeps people coming back.

The Sertoma Shine and Show continues to be more than a gathering of vintage steel and polished paint; it's a testament to a club that's quietly been shaping Sioux Falls since 1929.

"Our main goal with the car show has always been to bring awareness to the community that the Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma Club is still around. We started as a club in 1929, and through the years we have been able to donate millions of dollars to various projects and people in the Sioux Falls area," Scott Newman explains. "In the past, when we ran the Sertoma Bingo Hall and built Sertoma Park or created the

Sertoma Butterfly House and Marine Cove, everyone knew our name. But lately, we have quietly continued our mission of Service to Mankind (Sertoma) to give back where we can."

The family-friendly, car-loving event will be held this year on August 10, from 1-4 p.m., in the Cars For Sale parking lot at Lake Lorraine. Registration starts at noon. The event organizers expect a total of around 150 cars at this year's event, weather permitting.

From music to classic cars, the show has a little bit for everyone. New to this year's show is a free-will donation meal, adding a delicious and community-driven touch to the festivities. Whether you're a car enthusiast, a music lover, or just looking for a fun day out with great food, the Sertoma Shine and Show event promises a fantastic experience for all.

"This year, for a free-will donation, we are offering a smoked pork loin sandwich, chips, and a drink as a way to try and raise some money to give back to the community. We will also have a DJ playing the tunes and some raffles," Scott adds. "It allows us to offer some great family fun for the people of Sioux Falls on what will hopefully be a great Sunday afternoon. It's a great way to spend time with the family—come out and enjoy some great food and look at some of the nicest cars in town. Checking out nice cars never gets old!"

For the Noon Sertoma Club, community service is more than a mission—it's a way of life. While the annual car show is a fun and visible way the club gives back, it's just one piece of a much larger effort to support Sioux Falls. One of their most impactful initiatives is providing free hearing screenings to nearly 9,000 elementary students across the Sioux Empire each year, helping to catch potential issues early and support kids' learning and development. During the holiday season, the club spreads cheer with a Christmas pizza party for around 250 students with special needs. Fundraising events like Monday Night Football book sales, and the popular Sertoma Fest also play a big role in supporting these efforts. Together,

these projects reflect the club's ongoing commitment to making Sioux Falls a better, more inclusive place to live.

The Noon Sertoma Club is making great strides toward its goal of raising $500,000 to renovate Sertoma Park with new all-inclusive play areas. With about 40% of the funds already raised, the project aims to add all-abilities play structures and sensory equipment to create a space where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy themselves.

TALKING TIRES

Summer Travel Safety

Is My Vehicle Road Trip Ready?

Summer's here, and you know what that means— road trip time! There's nothing quite like hitting the open road with the windows down and music blasting. But before you embark on your epic adventure, make sure your car is up for the journey. Skipping proper vehicle maintenance before a big trip can lead to serious headaches and expensive repairs down the line. You don't want to find yourself stranded because you neglected basic checks.

Essential exterior maintenance

Your tires are literally where the rubber meets the road, so ensure they're in tip-top shape. Check tire pressure and inspect for signs of wear and tear. Tire blowouts are a leading cause of summer travel accidents due to improper inflation and worn-out tread, so don't skip this critical step.

Give your lights a thorough inspection. Check headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals to ensure they're all functioning properly. You don't want to be driving around with a burnt-out taillight.

Don't forget your windshield wipers. Summer storms can appear suddenly, so make sure your wipers are in good condition and can effectively clear your windshield when needed.

Interior and safety features

You'll be spending considerable time inside your car, so ensure it's comfortable and safe. Start by testing your air conditioning system—there's nothing worse than discovering your A/C is broken when you're already sweating in traffic.

Check your seat belts and child safety restraints to ensure they're functioning correctly. Take a peek at your dashboard indicators, too. Make sure there aren't any warning lights that could indicate potential issues. It's better to address problems now rather than when you're miles from home.

Fluid and engine checks

Before hitting the road, check all essential fluids: engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Low or dirty fluids can cause serious engine problems, especially during hot summer driving conditions. If you're not comfortable checking these yourself, visit Graham Tire for a pre-trip inspection.

Pre-departure planning

Plan your route in advance and share it with someone reliable. Check weather conditions along your path and have alternative routes ready. Download offline maps to your phone in case you lose signal in remote areas.

Ensure your vehicle registration and insurance documents are current and easily accessible. If you're traveling across state lines, familiarize yourself with different traffic laws and regulations.

Final preparations

Before departure, clean your windshield inside and out for optimal visibility. Adjust mirrors and seats for comfort during long drives. Test your horn, hazard lights, and ensure your gas tank is full.

Pack smart by distributing weight evenly and securing loose items that could become projectiles during sudden stops.

Before you zip up that suitcase, review this travel safety checklist. By prioritizing vehicle maintenance and emergency preparedness, you're protecting yourself

and ensuring you can fully enjoy exploring new places and cultures. Remember, the journey should be just as memorable as the destination, for all the right reasons.

Hit the road with confidence, knowing your vehicle is ready for whatever summer adventures await!

“Motors . . . MountUp!”

“Excellence and Tradition” is their motto. “Honor, Integrity, and Dedication” are their values. Their heritage is rooted in tradition, dating back to when lawmen were on horseback. Their steed has changed, but not their passion for it. Leather gloves and leather coats provide protection from the elements, and the tall boots are iconic and provide protection from the heat of the pipes. The winged wheel is a small but meaningful pin on their uniform shirt.

The Sioux Falls Police Department Motor Unit is proud to have served the city for over 100 years since 1925. On March 6th,1934, Motor Officer Hale Keith was severely wounded during the robbery of the Security National Bank by Dillinger’s gang, narrowly surviving a machine gun burst from “Baby Face” Nelson’s Thompson .45. This is one example of our lineage and history that we honor.

Currently, the fleet consists of eight motorcycles, including five Harley-Davidson Electras, two

BMW R 1250 RT-P’s, and one Triumph Tiger dual-purpose motorcycle. These motorcycles are assigned to operators who complete a rigorous and demanding two-week training, and previous riding experience is a prerequisite. While this training may sound easy, it is far from it. Any Motor Officer will tell you it is the most challenging training in the Law Enforcement world. It is mentally and physically demanding, and for good reason, as Law Enforcement can be dangerous in itself; it is even more so on a motorcycle.

Picking up a downed motorcycle is commonplace, and injuries are also not uncommon. The washout rate of students is nearly 50% for various reasons, and the instructors are unwavering in their standards, and for good reason. If an operator makes it out in the field, the instructors don’t want it on their

conscience if they get themselves hurt due to lackadaisical training.

Our agency has two certified instructors, and our instructors and operators train with many other agencies in the Midwest, as well as the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Omaha area. Training consists of a variety of disciplines, including both low and highspeed maneuvering, off-road riding, escort fundamentals, crash avoidance, and firearms, to name a few. Once an operator graduates from this class, they have effectively “earned their motor wings," which is a proud accomplishment. Each year, our operators also participate in a week-long refresher class, honing various disciplines. Basic Motor School breeds skilled and exceptional riders, and if you get a chance to see them operate these machines, it is quite impressive.

"On March 6th 1934 Motor Officer Hale Keith was severely wounded during the robbery of the Security National Bank by Dillinger’s gang, narrowly surviving a machine gun burst from “Baby Face” Nelson’s Thompson .45."

Our motor units are assigned to the Traffic and Parks sections. As a supervisor of the unit, I challenge them to be able to do anything a squad car can do, except for prisoner transport. Their primary focus is typically traffic enforcement, escorts (such as funeral escorts and house moves), and the patrolling of our many parks and recreational trail systems. I have found the maneuverability of a Police motorcycle to come in quite handy many times over the years, particularly when searching in a remote area is necessary where a car cannot go. Additionally, the motorcycles are more efficient than squad cars, outperform the cars, and the initial investment is lower. Our operators are trusted with their judgement as far as when in the season they can ride them, but typically it is between April and November, and if the road conditions allow it, they ride.

Not many places give you the opportunity to be paid to ride a motorcycle, and really, it is a very select few that have the honor. Each year in May, hundreds of Motor Units converge on Washington, DC, during Police Week to honor fallen Officers from around the country and provide escorts to survivors and families for the week’s events. Four of our Officers had the distinct pleasure to do this in 2023, which is a “once in a career opportunity,” and I look forward to the next generation carrying the tradition on.

Motors lead the way.

From Chance Meetings to Custom Dreams THE HOSE CLAMP CUSTOMS STORY

In Summerset, South Dakota, an unlikely partnership has transformed two separate dreams into a thriving reality. Hose Clamp Customs, LLC represents the convergence of military precision, corporate strategy, and an unshakeable passion for motorcycles.

The story begins with two men from vastly different worlds: Josh Anderson, a battle-tested Army veteran, and Scott Flockhart, a corporate executive. Both shared the same burning desire to turn their love of motorcycles into something meaningful.

Joshua Anderson channeled over 26 years of distinguished military service across three branches, finishing in the Army EOD, into Lost in the Woods Cycle and Supply in Missouri.Launching the venture in early 2021, Josh quickly built a reputation that drew motorcycle enthusiasts from across the South. But success brought its own crossroads—the pull of family and home was calling him back to South Dakota.

Meanwhile, Scott Flockhart was writing his own chapter of transition. After retiring from the corporate world in 2021, he carried with him over 20 years of executive leadership experience with industry giants like Harley-Davidson, Microsoft, MERCK, COSTCO, and Compass Consulting Group. Despite his impressive track record of helping major brands achieve their growth objectives, Scott's heart had always belonged elsewhere.

knowing that someday his professional expertise would merge with his personal passion.

The pivotal moment arrived in August 2023 at a Bike Night at Sickie's, where Scott, still recovering from a serious motorcycle accident, first met Josh Anderson. "Josh gave me his business card, and I put it away and didn't really give it another thought," Scott recalls with a chuckle.

But fate wasn't finished with them yet. Weeks later, while sorting through storage items he was selling, Scott encountered Josh again—this time as a customer responding to his online ad. What could have been a simple transaction became something far more significant.

This second meeting sparked a conversation that revealed their shared vision and perfectly complementary skills. Josh's entrepreneurial drive and technical expertise aligned seamlessly with Scott's business acumen and longheld industry dreams. By the end of their conversation, Josh had extended a job offer that Scott eagerly accepted.

What began as two chance encounters quickly evolved into an unbreakable partnership. Since opening their doors in 2023, this veteran-owned and operated business has established itself as The Black Hills premier destination for custom motorcycle builds, performance tuning, and precision craftsmanship.

"It's in my blood!" Scott explains with unmistakable enthusiasm. "Even while I was working in the corporate world, my dream was always to be part of a hot rod or motorcycle shop."

For Scott, motorcycles weren't just a weekend hobby—they were a calling. Throughout his corporate career, he had restored countless cars and raced even more bikes, always

"I dreamed about opening a custom motorcycle shop here in my hometown," Josh reflects. "Now it's really happening, and my goal is to provide top-notch service and become the go-to spot for all things custom motorcycle-related."

Their comprehensive approach sets them apart in the industry.

Hose Clamp Customs offers everything from regular tuning and maintenance to complete custom motorcycle builds. Their specialized services include dyno tuning for optimal performance, custom paint jobs, and Cerakote and powder coat services for durability and style. Whether a client needs a quick repair or dreams of an all-out custom build, the team delivers fast, reliable solutions without compromising quality.

The partnership creates a dynamic that's greater than the sum of its parts. Josh brings technical mastery and industry experience from years of hands-on work and proven success. Scott contributes strategic business insight and operational excellence honed through decades of corporate leadership. Together, they're transforming Hose Clamp Customs into the region's go-to destination for serious motorcycle enthusiasts.

Their philosophy is elegantly simple: transform your bike to meet your vision and keep it on the road, not in the shop. Whether you're chasing peak performance numbers or seeking a distinctive aesthetic that reflects your personality, this is where ideas become reality.

Despite being relatively new to the Black Hills scene, Hose Clamp Customs is already generating significant buzz throughout the local motorcycle community. Word-of-mouth recommendations bring new clients through their doors each week, and the shop is rapidly becoming the preferred destination for both routine maintenance and ambitious custom projects.

For motorcycle enthusiasts seeking exceptional service, innovative customization, or reliable maintenance, Hose Clamp Customs represents the ideal fusion of expertise, passion, and professionalism. Josh and Scott have created something that transcends a typical business model—they've built a community hub where motorcycle dreams come roaring to life.

THE EXTRA MILE

Defining the EXTRA MILE

The extra mile has many different meanings here at Sehr Performance. It is mainly a code that we serve our customers by, as well as an explanation of all the extra things that we do for them. But many of our readers ask me, “What exactly is the extra mile?” so below is where I will define it in more detail.

We at Sehr Performance have always thought that if you provide a complete and very thorough service, the end result will be a better product. Our extra mile starts when the customer walks through the door; we ask many questions about the exact use and demands of the engine. Then we inquire about the driving style and expected longevity of the power plant. When it comes to

doing work for our customers, we are on your side, and we are thorough and complete when deciding the best road to take as well. We never assume or hope something is in usable shape. Instead, we completely clean, measure and examine all components to make an educated decision on how to build the engine to best suit our customers’ needs. All of our experience and knowledge are used to accurately build a package our customers will enjoy.

There are many different styles and quality differences in engine parts, including parts intended for factory stock replacement use and hard parts intended for higher horsepower and RPM limits. Understanding and knowing

what parts to use can sometimes be a confusing and complicated endeavor, but Sehr Performance has a set platform and a proven formula that ensures our customers will enjoy the engine for many years. Many will attempt to save money on parts and ignore or assume engine dimensions are ok, but later run into complications in engine assembly, as well as reliability.

When deciding what machine work is necessary for the intended build, Sehr will thoroughly check all aspects and dimensions of the engine block, crankshaft, cylinder heads and connecting rods. If anything is out

of specification, we will recommend precise reconditioning of all of the needed engine components. We are very complete in our measurements, so it takes a little more time and effort to measure all components correctly, but this way, we are able to get a true picture of the actual condition and health of the engine.

If the engine runs great, it should look great. Our engine detailing procedures have been best of show winners, and it also shows the care and quality that is put inside of the engine.

Our dyno-tuned engine packages offer many extra mile features. Starting with correctly oil priming the engine, proper engine and engine component break in, proper heat control, correct tune during break in and complete and thorough attention to all aspects and systems of the engine. We carefully handle the engine and make sure all aspects are correct as we proceed to the engine power pull.

The “Extra Mile” isn’t just a statement here at Sehr Performance; it’s the way we do business!

THE CHEVELLE'S JOURNEY

A Story of Love, Loss, and Redemption

Todd was fifteen when his parents bought him the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport in 1978. Before he could even drive it, he'd sit behind the wheel listening to Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" album on the 8-track stereo, dreaming of the open road.

"I just liked the way it looked," Todd recalls. "The Super Sport was a step up, a little bit more horsepower and better suspension, that kind of stuff."

The car quickly became more than transportation— it was Todd's companion through vocational school and his first job at a body shop in the early 1980s. But those early years weren't without drama.

One night, while Todd's parents were returning from a date, they found themselves caught in the middle of a police pursuit. An escaped prisoner driving a stolen pickup slammed into the driver's side front quarter panel of the Chevelle. The police shot out the pickup's tires and captured the prisoner, while Todd's parents walked away unharmed.

The damage sent the car to Wayne's Body Shop in Luverne for repairs—a new quarter panel, trunk lid, and bumper. It was during this restoration that they added the distinctive stripes.

"If you had a Chevelle and it was a Super Sport, you had to have stripes," Todd explains.

After years of cruising Main Street, hitting the drive-in theater, and illegal drag racing on back roads, Todd made what he now calls "the biggest mistake I ever made." In 1983 or 1984, he traded

The regret was immediate and lasting.

Fifteen years later, in 1999, Todd's father planted a seed that would grow into an obsession: "Why don't you find that car and buy it back?"

The search led Todd to a car show and swap meet in St. Peter, Minnesota, where he spotted his old Chevelle among the displays. He recognized his previous work on the car and desperately begged the show organizers to connect him with the current owner.

Through persistence, Todd tracked down the original owner's brother, who passed along Todd's contact information. The owner was a veteran who had purchased the Chevelle in Atlanta during flight training before serving in Vietnam.

"He was in flight training, he went to Vietnam, and luckily he came back," Todd states.

In 2012, thirteen years after beginning his search, Todd finally bought back his first love. By then, the Chevelle had passed through seven different

owners, and Todd knew every single name on that list.

What followed was a complete frame-off restoration that consumed both Todd's expertise and his wallet.

"What haven't I done to it?" Todd laughs. "Every nut and bolt has been taken off that car—all the suspension, the engine, the transmission. I had the whole frame sandblasted and powder-coated. I could buy a new pickup for what I've got in that car."

95 percent of the car was painstakingly restored by Todd. The rebuilt engine retained its factoryoriginal matching numbers, while the turbo 400 automatic transmission represented a periodcorrect upgrade option. Todd sourced original exhaust components, tracked down quarter panels from Nebraska, and fenders from Connecticut. A local professional company crafted a vinyl top and headliner, while Todd installed seat covers for the front buckets. “It still has the original factory air conditioning unit,” Todd notes.

"I wanted to put this car back to its original state,

because I was only going to do this once," Todd shares. "I've just been obsessed with it."

The undercoating and protection he applied will outlast him, Todd jokes—a testament to his commitment to preserving the car for future generations.

Today, the Chevelle enjoys a place of honor in Todd's Autobody Shop, spending most of its time in the paint booth to stay dust-free. The same 8-track of Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" still plays through the restored stereo, connecting Todd to that fifteen-year-old boy who first fell in love with the car.

"The memories make it special—the drive-in theater, the drag racing. All the good times cruising Main Street," Todd reflects. "Going out to Thunder Valley, drag racing, and doing all the illegal stuff on back roads."

Though other former owners have approached him about purchasing the car, Todd's answer remains firm: "I cannot let it go."

The 1970 Chevelle Super Sport isn't just a restored classic—it's a circle completed, a promise kept, and a love story that spans decades. In Todd's hands, it has found its forever home.

ASK THE MOTOR MEDICS®

TUNE-IN AND TUNE-UP!®

Dear Motor Medics,

I have a 2007 Buick LeSabre, and under the back of the vehicle, there are what appear to be shock absorbers with air lines attached to them. They both are leaking what I assume is oil, and I hear a noise that lasts for about four minutes each time I start the car. This noise used to last only about 10 seconds if it happened at all. I have several questions. Does this mean the shocks are bad? Is the noise I hear the air compressor that fills the shocks? Can I let it go for a while because it seems to still ride well? How expensive is it to repair this problem?

Thank you.

Lamont in Okoboji, Iowa

Dear Motor Medics,

Dear Lamont,

You have load leveling shock absorbers in back, which means they not only control the firmness of the ride, but they also level out the vehicle when extra weight is added to it. When a shock leaks or the vehicle has an excessive bounce, it is an indication of the need for replacement. Oil is used in the dampening of the shock, and when it leaks out, the shock can no longer control the bounce, compromising your safety. If you leave the shocks the way they are, the compressor, which you hear running, will eventually burn out and be very expensive to fix. These shocks are usually available at most auto parts stores for a reasonable price and take about one hour to replace.

Take care, The Motor Medics

Our 16-year-old twins have just started to drive, and we’re a little worried. We took your advice about finding a used car and having it inspected before we purchased it, and were able to negotiate repairs for some safety issues on one of them before we took possession, so we are ok with the cars. What we are worried about is that in addition to the car, we supplied our children with new cell phones. We have lectured on the dangers of texting and driving more than once, but with the large number of messages sent daily from their phones, the temptation is too great. We have seen them texting as they drive away and pull in, so we know it is happening. We don’t want to take away the phones because we feel much safer when we can contact them, but we cannot allow them to use the phones while driving. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you. Gene in Henderson, Texas

Dear Gene,

There is a device available that will disable the phone when their vehicles are in motion. It will shut off all functions like text, email, and calls, but allow 911 to be dialed in an emergency. The device is simple to install at home, and if disabled, it will send you an email alerting you of the disconnection, even if it is reconnected. The device is called Cell Control, and you can internet search for it.

Take care, The Motor Medics
