Home Spelling Practice

Dear Family,

You can help your child succeed by spending time at home each week examining and writing the spelling words together.

Make a game of spelling practice. Many simple games such as “Tic-Tac-Toe,” “I Spy,” and “Simon Says” can be adapted to include spelling words.

Spelling Connections Grade 5

Your child will use the Spelling Connections program this year. Each week, the lesson will focus on a Spelling Strategy that describes a common spelling rule or principle. The spelling words on the list for that week will illustrate the Spelling Strategy.

The Spelling Study Strategy is a method for studying any spelling word. Help your child make a habit of using it for spelling practice. Follow these steps: 1. Look at the word.

2. Say the letters in the word. Think about how each sound is spelled.

4. See the word in your mind. Spell the word to yourself.

5. Write the word.

6. Check your spelling against the spelling in the book.

Your child will also grow as a speller by writing stories, diaries, signs, and letters at home. Encourage your son or daughter to write frequently while playing and exploring hobbies and during quiet times. Enjoy writing together!

Cada semana, la lección enfocará una Estrategia para la ortografía que describe una regla o un principio común de la ortografía. La lista de palabras para deletrear de esa semana demostrará la Estrategia para la ortografía.

Usted puede ayudar a que su hijo(a) tenga éxito por medio de pasar un rato en casa cada semana mirando y escribiendo las palabras juntos. Pueden hacer un juego de la práctica de la ortografía. Muchos juegos sencillos, tales como Tic-Tac-Toe, I Spy (Yo Veo), y Simon Says (Simón Dice), pueden ser adaptados para incluir palabras para deletrear.

Cuentos de una sola oración Ayude a su hijo o hija a desarrollar su imaginación pidiéndole que escriba oraciones que contienen cada una cuatro palabras para deletrear. Él o ella puede usar cualquier grupo de cuatro palabras en la lista pero no puede volver a usar esas mismas palabras en otras oraciones.
