Leschi and Frink Parks are separated

by South Frink Place, Lake Washington Boulevard and 35th Avenue South.

These streets support bicycle and motor traffic and have many blind turns making crossing unsafe for pedestrians.

The diagram explores safer alternative connections between the two parks.

Direct pedestrian connections between Leschi and Frink Parks are unsafe. Safer alternatives are extremely out of the way and positioned on steep hills, making them highly inaccessible and pedestrian unfriendly. The addition of a pedestrian bridge that starts at the top of Frink Park, near the Central Area Senior Center and several bus stops, and ends at the waterfront area of lower Leschi Park will activate the parks and provide a safe connection to the popular waterfront area.

The Leschi Loop Urban Hiking Trail hosts many of Seattle's public stairways. The addition of the Leschi & Frink Parks Pedestrian Bridge would add 19% more steps, with 108 steps connecting the bridge to the hiking trails of Frink Park and 180 steps connecting the bridge to the tennis courts in Leschi Park.

EDITED SCENE

This scene depicts the intersection at South King Street and 31st Avenue South. A new crosswalk connects the updated stairway and ADA ramp near the Central Area Senior Center to the new pedestrian bridge entry in upper Frink Park. The 31st Ave retaining wall has been revitalized with Future Visions, a mural by Carmen Salem of the Yakima Nation.
