message from your DIVISION NEWS EDITOR Hi Redbulls! Whats up, I hope you are all doing well and having a great summer so far! I am actually in an airbnb at Joshua Tree park as I write this message, so hopefully the desert environment here will help me make this newsletter have a nice summer theme :) Our July DCM is going to be on July 16, I hope to see you there! We’re also going to have an ice cream social right after so that itself is a reason to go. The link to register is in the D37 Instagram page bio. Also be on the lookout for more information on our OTC. Last thing: just because it’s summer does not mean there aren’t any volunteering events! There’s a lot of different opportunities for anyone to sign up and go, so make sure to be as proactive as possible. Thank yall so much ~

message from your LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR What’s Stompin’, Redbulls? Hey hey Redbulls! I am so glad it's summer! This past month, I celebrated my birthday, started driving, and went on a few college tours. I'm super excited for July because it means I can attend Summer Board Training Conference with the other Lieutenant Governors to be trained on how to better help our division grow to new heights! Thank you to everyone who came out to our June DCM and ice cream social - I had a lot of fun and I hope you all did too! I'm super stoked for our July DCM because it will be during our Officer Training Conference. I encourage everyone to attend, whether or not you are an officer, because it has plenty of great information for everyone! I hope you guys are having as much fun as I am, and hopefully our summer continues to get better. Remember to keep logging in your service hours and stack up those Redbull Reward Points!

15th ANNUAL

KIWANIS 5.30.2022 6| Service Recap

Cathedral Catholic: Book Drive

For May, we wanted to introduce a project that helped conclude the school year and still gave back to the community. What better way than to have our Redbulls donate old books from this school year and past years. It was great to see books not just getting thrown out or put on a bookshelf, but actually going to kids and adults ready to read a new book. We had a lot of participants with bags full of books, and some members went over the cap to donate a few extra books. We are incredibly grateful for the donations and all the effort put into the drive!

To commemorate those who have died in military service for the U.S., the RB Historical Society hosted their 15th annual Pancake Festival on Memorial Day in Webb Park. Volunteers from Key Club, Kiwins Club, Boy scouts, and Girl Scouts helped set up tables, decorate tents, sell tickets, and serve breakfast. Breakfast was provided by the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Bernardo and consisted of delicious pancakes, sausage, yogurt, fruit, juice, and coffee. At the festival, there was live music, face painting, raffle prizes, performances by the Gyminny Kids Circus Team, and most importantly, the Veterans Memorial Ceremony. It was such a fun experience and we volunteers were even rewarded with a complimentary breakfast!

Today, I did free rice. Free rice is an amazing way to donate food and revenue to the WFP, which will use that money and food to support struggling communities abroad. Doing the english portion was great, as it allowed me to exercise my skills and reinforce some terms I might've forgotten or misunderstood in the past. The great thing about free rice is that while people can learn or reinforce their skills, others around the world will be receiving rice, therefore helping to curb the starvation rates around the world. The simple aspect of clicking out of 4 options and a reasonable answer, mixed with the intelligence system that allows all ages to earn rice with questions of their level; allows for everyone to contribute to the cause of feeding the world.

TPHS: Free Rice!

This month, we had a campus clean up at our school. It was really nice to take time out of our day to clean our campus, because during lunch, I've noticed many students who disrespectfully toss their lunch food in the bushes and never pick it up. Now that I know how much work it is to clean up, I really wish people are more respectful with our campus and put in effort to keep it nice and clean. It was also an interesting experience because our group worked with our school's principal when cleaning up the gym. Overall, I'm super glad we were able to participate in this rewarding event.

PHS: School Cleanup For the cranes for kids with cancer activity, we made cranes for Rady's Children Hospital! We first went over the presentation and instructions for the crane. Next, we were able to pick from the origami paper provided. I then spent the rest of the meeting folding paper cranes according to the instructions provided. Throughout the meeting, I was able to make 6 cranes! Overall, this was a lot of fun and a super creative way to help our community!

Free rice was a great way for me to learn more about new topics or even study for class subjects while being able to help the community. Because Free Rice is a part of the United Nations World Food Programme, I knew that I was volunteering towards a legitimate organization and cause. I chose categories like “Spanish” and “Math” to strengthen skills that I would use for school, and tried out other fun categories like “Pop Music” for fun. I learned a lot more than I thought I did from the beginning of the service project and it was overall a great way to learn more through volunteering.

I participated in Bean Count which is an event where you answer trivia questions and earn beans which you can then donate. I enjoyed this event because it was virtual so I had access to my volunteering opportunities from basically anywhere. I completed this event from home and during school, which was very convenient.

DNHS: Bean Count I chose this event because of the great impact it has. Not only does free rice help our community, but it also helps people from all over the world. I really resonated with their mission to help close the hunger gap and found it a great opportunity to give back to those in need. To complete the service project I chose a category I was interested in, and then answered a series of multiple-choice questions. For each question, you get correct your amount of rice grains increases by more or less ten, and for every ten grains, Free Rice supports the World Food Program with ten grains of rice. Additionally, this service project was easily accessible as a website and an app which was convenient to complete the service project. Overall, I love the mission and impact Free Rice has on the world and enjoyed giving back.
