An Academic. Michael Harris served as chancellor and professor of public and environmental affairs, business, and education at Indiana University Kokomo. Dr. Harris’ initiatives as chancellor led the IU Kokomo campus to major growth in student enrollment, implemented 15 new degree programs, increased significantly its online course offerings, dramatically increased fundraising through a Campaign, began a competitive athletic program and a successful bid to NAIA membership, and completed a variety of infrastructure projects including the Cole Wellness Center. Enhanced IU Kokomo recognition on the regional, national, and international levels. Under his leadership, IU Kokomo was ranked in U.S. News & World Report for the first time in its history. Born in South Africa, Dr. Harris earned a bachelor in economics and business administration from Bar Ilan University, and an M.A. in public policy from Tel Aviv University. Subsequently, he held faculty and leadership positions that gave him the opportunity to impact higher education, economic development, finance, innovation, government, industry, and entrepreneurship. Michael Harris has a Ph.D., in public policy from Indiana University, where he studied with Noble Prize Laureate in Economics, Elinor Ostrom. Over the course of his career, he has served as a professor and administrator at Eastern Michigan University, Tel Aviv University and other institutions. Before coming to IU Kokomo, he was the provost and vice president for academic affairs and a professor at Kettering University in Michigan.
