Component 4: The Ship DESIGN YOUR TIME FOR TRANSFORMATION “The alternative to good design is always bad design. There is no such thing as no design.” -ADAM JUDGE
Ships are designed for specific purposes. A week aboard a tugboat would be a lousy way to spend a week in the Virgin Islands. Likewise, a sailing catamaran would never be able to push a 300-ton barge through the currents on the Mississippi, let alone help a 240,000-ton super tanker hold its position in a tide. Each type of vessel is designed from the keel up with its purpose and destination in mind. The design of the ship deeply influences how the captain and crew spend their time on this adventure. While the destination may be exciting, the ship is where you actually live on your way there. The structure of your ship is what carries you toward your destination. In a very real sense, it holds you together. So it goes with how we spend our time together in our group. Meeting together for sixty or ninety minutes once a week is not in and of itself a recipe for spiritual growth or authentic relationships. How you spend your time together is what carries you toward your destination. How you structure your time can either help or hinder your progress.
