ik’s sister Vanetta moved in with us from California in the spring, joining brother Otrie and his son Hanan to make 1723 a fuller house of blessings. They’re all culinary, technology and office savvy, filling gaps we need to function domestically and administratively.

Our Elk Grove Church Family, collectively and individually, has embodied the Spirit of Christmas with an assortment of timely gifts of treasure and time. Ditto Adieu: EGBC buds Pandi our colleagues Siku & Curt Hansen. in the educational comedy troupe Wavelength, a 29-year partnership. The transition has invigorated. Our Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries had its busiest year. Mike has new freelance opportunities teaching,

Mr. Bouvier was mom's Pomeranian and became ours in every sense of the word: a wonderful friend, companion and kiddo. He went to sleep May 8. He left instructions for Brie, Vanetta’s fox terrier. Stay off the sofa.

Milestones

True to O’Henry, the pretzel-twist ending is bittersweet, powerful and reflective. For us, the reflection involves the verse above and our 2017, a year of transition.

In April, Mike’s church staff job ended after 13 years. Six months later, regular employment remains elusive. Yet, through this season, God has provided faithfully.

Rites of Passage Mister Bouvier

• Vikki ran two half-marathons and a full marathon, and is prepping for the 2018 Chicago Marathon.

• Mike earned his insurance license from the state of Illinois in preparation to offer training to combat financial illiteracy.

• Cami sang lead in her first opera, “Riders to the Sea,” at Augustana.

Lawd, hear our Christmas prayer...

• Vikki began a new job, marketing at Flinn Scientific., in Bativia, IL.

The entrepreneurial spirit also embraced burgeoning 20-year-old, Cami. The college sophomore, prepping for a European tour with the Augustana College choir next summer, created a side-business, Cami Myers Photography. Her focus: Portraits. Watch for how 2018 develops.

• Our mechanic called one day to say our Sonata was totaled in shop accident.

• Hailstorms led to house makeover: new roof and siding. Marva drove by and missed the house.

• Nephew Hanan Barrett became the latest offspring to wake up to an 18th birthday pancake breakfast. Chez nous.

Consequently, it’s been a spartan, creative, bonding Christmas. We’ve paid forward material items we no longer used — by selling or donating — made gifts by hand, and spent more time hosting, engaging friends. As usual, Jesus was right. Giving is a blessing. Stay blessed. — Mike, Vikki & Camille
