Dear Pastor and First Lady Muriel, and Members of Cascade United Methodist Church, Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
It is with profound joy and heartfelt gratitude that I extend my warmest congratulations to you all as you celebrate your 100th Anniversary. It’s a remarkable milestone. It is a testimony to your faithfulness. God has truly blessed you as you have worshiped, served, sacrificed, and persevered through changing times. For one hundred years, Cascade has stood as a beacon of hope, faith, and resilience within the African American community and beyond. Through seasons of struggle and triumph, your church has proclaimed the Gospel, nurtured disciples, comforted the brokenhearted, advocated for justice, and demonstrated the enduring power of God’s love. The Philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard said, Life is lived moving forward but it is only remembered by looking backwards. The Black Church has always been a community that draws wisdom from memory while moving forward in faith.
The future will require courage, innovation, and a renewed commitment to the Gospel. It will call for the nurturing of young leaders, the embracing of new opportunities for ministry, and the continued pursuit of justice, compassion, and reconciliation. The next century of ministry will belong to a congregation that remembers its history but is not confined by it; a congregation that honors its traditions while remaining open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. The words spoken to Joshua continue to speak to the Church today: “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). As your congregation embarks upon its second century, may these words encourage and guide you. Continue to trust God, continue to serve God’s people, and continue to proclaim the good news with boldness and conviction. Congratulations on one hundred years of faithful ministry. May the Lord who has brought you this far continue to lead, strengthen, and bless you in the years ahead. With gratitude and celebration, I am, Sincerely, Bishop Robin Dease Georgia Area The United Methodist Church

CASCADE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Dr. Kevin R. Murriel Senior Pastor Dear Cascade Family and Friends, One hundred years. It is difficult to capture in a few words what it means to stand at this moment in the life of Cascade United Methodist Church. For a century, generations of faithful people have prayed, worshiped, sacrificed, served, built, rebuilt, marched, taught, loved, and believed that God was still writing Cascade’s story. Tonight, we honor them. We remember the pastors whose voices filled our pulpits, the saints who prayed, the families who gave sacrificially, the leaders who dreamed beyond what they could see, and the countless people whose names may never appear in a history book, but whose faithfulness is written into the very foundation of this church. And yet, as proud as I am of our history, I believe the greatest way we can honor those who came before us is not simply by remembering what they built, but by having the courage to keep building. Because Cascade has never been just a building. Cascade is a movement. It is a movement of faith that has proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A movement of justice that has refused to remain silent when our community needed a voice. A movement of generosity that has educated students, fed families, supported communities across the world, and stood beside people in their most difficult moments. A movement that has continued to ask one important question: What does God require of us now? I have the extraordinary privilege of serving as Senior Pastor during this historic chapter, and I do not take that lightly. I am deeply grateful for the leaders, staff, members, partners, and friends who have given so much to make this Centennial celebration possible. More importantly, I am grateful to pastor a congregation that still believes the Church can make a difference in the world. Tonight, we celebrate one hundred years, but we are not gathering simply to look backward. We are looking forward. There are still people to reach. There are still children to invest in. There are still communities to strengthen. There is still justice to pursue, hope to offer, ministry to create, and a new generation waiting for us to build something worthy of their future. So, as we celebrate this sacred milestone, my prayer is that we leave this moment with renewed gratitude for where God has brought us and renewed courage for where God is calling us. The first one hundred years have given us a remarkable legacy, now it is our turn to leave one. The movement continues. With gratitude and great expectation,
Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Murriel Senior Pastor Cascade United Methodist Church

4 | 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC
October 9, 2026 Greetings Cascade Family & Friends! On behalf of the Centennial Steering Committee, we are humbled and excited to welcome each of you to the Centennial Gala commemorating Cascade United Methodist Church’s legacy of love, community and impact. Our congregation’s first service was held at a storefront on Cascade Road in Southwest Atlanta before moving into its first church located at 875 Cascade Road. Now serving in three locations, including 3144 Cascade Road; 485 Ponce de Leon Avenue; and Bangui, Central African Republic, God has truly been faithful to His church called Cascade and to His people. For God’s provision, purpose, and protection, we are deeply grateful. One of the hallmarks of our congregation has been the love we exhibit through the sweet, sweet spirit of our collective membership. We take seriously God’s proclamation found in I Corinthians 13:13 that the greatest of these is love. Ours is a community woven together across generations, races, cultures, and geography. Through the many ministries and programs that have been launched from the pulpit and dedication of committed servant leaders, Cascade has left an indelible mark on the communities we have served for decades. Our light has radiated throughout Atlanta and around the world. From our signature Annual Thanksgiving Outreach Food Giveaway and our Homeless Ministry to our Health and Wellness Ministry and our scholarship program, through which in excess of $3.5 million has been awarded since 1985, we have served with divine purpose. Cascade strives to be God’s hands and feet in this world. We also give glory to God for the gifted musicians, vocalists, liturgical dancers, and other creatives who participate in one of a dozen music and arts ministry groups to create weekly, spirit-filled worship services. We are thankful for the ministries of the clergywomen and clergymen who have trained and served at Cascade and have gone on to plant churches, lead congregations, and serve denominationally with distinction. And, of course, we are extraordinarily grateful for the clergy who have led us to this historic milestone, notably Rev. Dr. Walter L. Kimbrough, Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery, Rev. Dr. Marvin Moss, Rev. Lawrence Young, and our dynamic, current Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Murriel. So, like the Sankofa bird, we look back with profound admiration and gratitude for all who poured into this ministry as our feet firmly are planted on the foundation that has been established. We know that God is doing a great work through Cascade Church, and we anticipate with joyful expectation all that He has in store for us! Thank you for joining us to celebrate this historic milestone in the life of our beloved church. We pray your spirits will be inspired, your souls will be blessed, and your hearts will be filled by this evening’s festivities.
To God Be The Glory!

October 9, 2026 Greetings! On behalf of the Atlanta City Council, it is my distinct pleasure to extend warm congratulations to Cascade United Methodist Church as you celebrate your 100th Anniversary. For a century, Cascade United Methodist Church has been a steadfast presence in Atlanta, beginning with a small gathering in the fall of 1926 and growing into a vibrant congregation with a profound legacy of faith, service, and community impact. From its first worship service on October 3, 1926, the church has remained committed to serving God and uplifting the people and communities entrusted to its care. Throughout its history, Cascade has demonstrated remarkable resilience and vision, overcoming fires, financial challenges, periods of transition, and the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through each chapter, the congregation has continued to grow its ministries and expand its commitment to Atlanta. From scholarships and youth programs to prison and homeless ministries, Habitat for Humanity partnerships, music and worship programs, and initiatives promoting spiritual growth and social justice, Cascade has consistently transformed faith into meaningful service. Today, as “One Church in Two Locations,” Cascade United Methodist Church continues to build upon its rich heritage while reaching new generations and communities throughout Atlanta and beyond. Under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Kevin R. Murriel, Cascade remains focused on expanding its community impact and empowering its ministries, members, and visitors through faith, service, and social consciousness. Dear Cascade United Methodist Family, It is my honor to extend my warmest congratulations to Cascade United Methodist Church as you celebrate 100 years of faith, service, and community. Since 1926, Cascade has been more than a place of worship. For generations of families across Southwest Atlanta, this congregation has been a source of hope, support, fellowship, and service. Through changing times and challenges, Cascade has remained a steadfast light in the community, answering the call to serve and uplift others. One of my favorite Bible verses is Galatians 5:13: “Serve one another humbly in love.” I believe this verse beautifully reflects the spirit of Cascade’s century of ministry. From scholarships and youth programs to food and clothing assistance, civic engagement, and support for families in need, Cascade has consistently demonstrated what it means to put faith into action. As you celebrate this remarkable milestone, we honor the pastors, lay leaders, members, families, and generations of faithful servants who have helped build Cascade’s enduring legacy. We also celebrate the vision and leadership that continue to move this historic congregation forward. On behalf of the residents of Atlanta and the Atlanta City Council, congratulations on 100 years of Cascade United Methodist Church. May this Centennial Anniversary be a celebration of all that God has done through this congregation and an inspiration for all that lies ahead. With sincere congratulations and best wishes, Sincerely, Yours in Service,

100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC | 13
HISTORY Cascade United Methodist Church
A Century of Service, Community, and Faith: 1926-2026 CASCADE: THE EARLY YEARS In the fall of 1926, some 18 to 20 people, intent on organizing a Methodist church in the Cascade community, met one evening in the home of Mrs. G.F. Jones at 1454 Beecher Street. As a result of the group’s work, the first service of Cascade Methodist Episcopal Church South was held on October 3, 1926, in a store-front building on Cascade Avenue near Beecher Street, under the auspices of Presiding Elder Dr. W. T. Hunnicutt. By December 1st of that year, membership had grown to 120 people. Cascade’s first pastor, Reverend S. A. F. Wagner, led the congregation in erecting its first church structure on Richland Road on April 1, 1927. On September 2, 1936, Mr. H.T. Pullen, and Dr. G.H. Stegar gave the church an adjoining lot on Richland Road and Cascade Avenue. This provided space to build a larger, more permanent facility that would face Cascade Avenue. In 1939, Cascade Methodist Episcopal Church South was renamed Cascade Methodist Church because of the merger of the Methodist Episcopal Church (North), the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and the Methodist Protestant Church. That same year, Reverend W. T. Hunnicutt was assigned as the eighth pastor of Cascade. Seeing the crowded conditions and the need for more space in all departments of the church, Reverend Hunnicutt launched a project to erect a new building. This worthy project was interrupted by a fire on May 20, 1940, that heavily damaged the church. Not to be deterred from continuous worship and service to the community, the congregation met temporarily in the E.L. Connally Elementary School. On May 1, 1941, work began on the basement for the new church building and when it was completed, worship services were held there. In December 1941, work on the new sanctuary was suspended because of the scarcity of building materials due to World War II, and the work on the building remained suspended until 1947. The Reverend J. J. Sneed, appointed pastor in 1942, constantly reminded the congregation of the viability of its dream of a new structure. On February 10, 1947, the building program was re-started and raised $125,000 enabling the 424-seat sanctuary to be completed. The first service was held there on July 4, 1948. Reverend L. F. VanLandingham, assigned as pastor in 1952, shepherded the rapid growth of the church in the post-war years that enabled the church to retire the sanctuary debt in six years. Bishop Arthur J. Moore dedicated the sanctuary on December 26, 1954. By this time there was an acute need for additional facilities for the Sunday school. Planning began for a new church school building adjoining the sanctuary. On January 15, 1956, the new church school building was completed and ready for occupancy. Included in this building project was an air conditioning system for the sanctuary.
14 | 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC
Two years later, on the night of January 23, 1958, an explosion of a hot water heater caused major damage to both the sanctuary and the new educational building. During the months of rebuilding, services were held in the E.L. Connally Elementary School. Repairs to the buildings amounted to $60,000.00. It should be noted that the stained-glass windows that were in the sanctuary at 875 Cascade Avenue were blown out of their frames to the ground without breaking. Although Cascade was met with fiscal, structural, war time, physical and catastrophic challenges, its commitment to taking God’s word to all was never in question. The Reverend Ralph C. Shea was appointed pastor in 1959. During his first year as pastor, a new church parsonage was purchased at 1415 Pollard Drive. The congregation worked hard and in December 1962 the indebtedness of the Sunday school building was liquidated. Reverend Charles T. Gray was assigned as pastor in 1963. He served the people at Cascade with his love for God and his dedication to God’s work and helped to strengthen the church’s ties to the community. Two houses were purchased on Richland Road. One was used to house staff, and the other was used for youth activities. In January 1967, a lay witness mission was held. From this experience, a spiritual renewal in the lives of many people took place. In 1968 at the General Conference in Dallas, Texas, the Methodist Church was united with the Evangelical United Brethren Church becoming the United Methodist Church. This merger between the denominations resulted in Cascade being renamed as Cascade United Methodist Church, and the “Light in the Community” that is Cascade was lit. In that same year, Reverend William B. Ridgeway became the fourteenth pastor. On September 15, 1968, a house was purchased, adjacent to the sanctuary, at 887 Cascade Avenue. The youth activities were moved to this location, and the remaining Richland Road site was then used as rental property. Reverend Charles B. Walls was appointed the fifteenth pastor in 1971. He served the congregation well with much love and dedication to the work of God. However, the neighborhood was transitioning from a predominantly Caucasian neighborhood to a growing African American one, as former congregants were moving away. The membership grew much smaller, but the financial responsibilities continued. The two houses on Richland Road were sold, and a part of the educational building was rented to the Board of Education for two years. While these measures helped, these were some dark, discouraging days. The few who were left kept the faith and kept praying for strength to carry on with God’s work. The sixteenth pastor of Cascade UMC was Reverend Marcus Booker, who served well. In the spring of 1974, he led a phenomenally successful stewardship campaign. The church membership roll was updated, and an accurate analysis of the church’s goals and objectives helped to lift the spirits of the congregants and renewed their hope to carry on the work of God’s kingdom. Yet, the demographics of the Cascade area were changing rapidly and membership dwindled dramatically.
CASCADE: THE MIDDLE-YEARS After the Annual Conference in 1974, Reverend Doctor Walter L. Kimbrough, a dynamic, young, minister with proven expertise in transitional church ministry, was appointed to Cascade as the seventeenth pastor. Cascade grew significantly and found it necessary to hold two Sunday morning worship services. In addition, the church was forced to install television monitors in the basement to accommodate this growing membership. The individual ministries expanded to a range unequalled not only in Atlanta, but in the nation.
100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC | 15
Some noteworthy traditions began to develop under Pastor Kimbrough’s leadership, For example, there was no Benediction, but a sending forth theme (taken from Philippians 4:13, “We can do all things in Christ who strengthens us” was adopted. Congregants would join hands across the aisles and recite the scripture at the conclusion of each worship service. Shortly thereafter, our musicians penned music for this verse, launching the beginning of the Cascade tradition of joining hands and swaying rhythmically while singing this scripture at the end of service. During the mid-1980s, the church established scholarships and incentive awards to be given to Cascade’s high school graduating seniors with high overall Grade Point Averages. The first Annual Cascade Scholarship and Incentive Awards were given in the summer of 1984 and consisted of a $1,000.00 scholarship and a $500.00 incentive award for each awardee. In 1986, Reverend Doctor Joseph Echols Lowery, a world respected civil rights activist and President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was appointed the eighteenth pastor of Cascade and the Church continued to experience phenomenal growth. Early in his tenure, he introduced the tradition of singing the third verse of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” as the doxology in the morning service. He also began the tradition of greeting each other and singing “There’s a Sweet, Sweet Spirit” as a congregation. The additional 1,000 new members who joined under his leadership evidenced the need to find larger facilities for worship and ministry. So, under the capable leadership of Reverend Doctor Lowery, Cascade launched a major building project which came to be known as “The Cathedral on Cascade” to house the then 2600 membership. Consequently, the leadership began the search for land to expand and ultimately secured property located at 3144 Cascade Road. His international presence allowed him to bring outstanding and world renown speakers to Cascade. The church continued to grow in membership and in ministry. On Saturday, September 29, 1990, the congregation marched from 875 Cascade Road to 3144 Cascade Road for the groundbreaking ceremony for the building of “The Cathedral.” Before his retirement in June 1992, much work toward building “The Cathedral” had been done. Ten acres of land at the corners of Cascade Road and Childress Drive had been purchased and a preliminary architectural design completed. The existing church was sold to The Chapel of Christian Love Missionary Baptist Church. Following Reverend Doctor Lowery’s retirement in 1992, Reverend Doctor Walter L. Kimbrough was reassigned to Cascade as the nineteenth pastor. The last worship services at 875 Cascade Road were held on October 4, 1992, on the 66th Anniversary of the church. Worship services in the interim were held at the West End Seventh Day Adventist Church until we moved into “The Cathedral” on April 17, 1994. Cascade was the first predominately Black United Methodist church to build a structure as large as “The Cathedral” since the merger of the Georgia and North Georgia Conferences in 1971. The commencement of worship and ministries in “The Cathedral” began with Bishop J. Lloyd Knox as the celebrant over two extraordinary events: the Entrance Day Celebration, Sunday, April 17, 1994, and the Consecration Sunday, April 24, 1994.
16 | 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC
On July 16, 1995, the leaders of Cascade United Methodist Church and Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, a pronominally Caucasian congregation, prepared a Covenant engaging the two congregations to come together and build a partnership to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. On June 2, 1996, the two congregations worshipped at Glenn United Methodist Church celebrating this Covenant. A major project of the two churches has been the building of Habitat for Humanity homes for many families. Cascade began its Prison Ministry in 1996 with the Women’s Metro Prison. The ministry began with quarterly visits to the prison for Sunday evening worship hours. The Cascade Youth Banking Center was founded in 1997 by Good Choices, Incorporated in partnership with Bank of America. The program was developed to expose children and youth to good economic habits including asset accumulation. The focus of the Cascade Homeless Ministry was broadened by an event in which 300 women and children were fed in September 1998 at A Place at The Corner of Peachtree and Pine Streets. Clean up and painting activities took place every other Saturday in December 1998 and continue frequently to this day. In 1999, because of the overflow of homeless people, A Place at The Corner of Peachtree and Pine Streets became a men’s shelter. The Cascade Homeless Ministry, through the Cascade Outreach Department, continued to support the Peachtree and Pine Shelter with Bible study, worship services, monthly medical examinations, haircuts, food service and more. On Sunday, October 7, 2001, on the front steps of Cascade, the congregation held a Mortgage Burning Ceremony for “The Cathedral.” The membership and ministries continued to thrive and expand such that within a few years, Reverend Doctor Kimbrough initiated a capital campaign to purchase 140 acres of property located off Camp Creek Boulevard in East Point to build a larger church facility. Reverend Doctor Kimbrough retired in 2006. In June 2006, the Reverend Doctor Marvin A. Moss, an experienced pastor with Church Planting and church growth expertise, was assigned to Cascade as the twentieth pastor. Under his leadership, the worship experience, organization, ministries, and membership continued to grow, and Cascade’s light in the community continued to shine. Reverend Doctor Moss oversaw the retirement of the debt on the Camp Creek Parkway property, rendering Cascade debt-free with clear title to all properties entrusted to the congregation. Under him, and in partnership with Cascade’s sister church, Glenn Memorial UMC, over 25 homes were completed for the Habitat for Humanity Project. Additionally, Reverend Doctor Moss provided leadership for and encouragement to Cascade members to participate more in United Methodist Church connectional activities, committees and policy making. Several ministries were augmented to capture the mission of Cascade, and a distinctive logo was developed and established to represent the expanded works of Cascade. The Cascade Endowment Legacy Ministry was one of them. In June 2014, Reverend Lawrence Young became the twenty-first pastor assigned to Cascade. The focus of Cascade UMC continued to be kingdom building. Cascade remained committed, more than ever, to be a vessel for the light of Christ to shine in and through us. Among the ongoing activities that manifest Cascade’s light in the community were outreach projects including the 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC | 17
Sleeping Bag project in January (providing warmth to the homeless); Smart Kids Smart Lunch project (providing lunches to children during the summer months), and the year-round operation of the Clothes Closet providing gently used clothing items to community persons. One ministry, recognized widely in the community, and growing in outreach continually, is the Annual November (Thanksgiving) Fundraising Concert sponsored by the New Advent Choir, with the support of the membership, which provides thousands of families each with a whole week of food.
CASCADE: THE PRESENT AND BEYOND The Reverend Doctor Kevin R. Murriel, a former youth pastor at Cascade, returned in 2017 as the twenty-second Senior Pastor. Under Pastor Murriel, Cascade broadened its footprint in the community by becoming a 21st Century Church. This was balanced with its historical identity of being a Light in the Community and around the world through Discipleship, Service, and Social Justice. With this vision, the ministries were evaluated, and the work done by each was aligned to one or more of these three pillars of Discipleship, Service, and Social Justice, thus preventing an “inwardly focused” view of ministry. To allow for better efficiency and decision making between administrative teams and ministry divisions, Cascade implemented an Alternative Board structure (An Executive Committee) consistent with the UMC Book of Discipline. In addition to the many ministries and projects already in place, new projects and ministries were initiated in keeping with the focus on Discipleship, Service and Social Justice. A few of these included the following: (1)The Discipleship (new members’ classes) process was revamped and called “The Journey into Cascade,” a six month process that has yielded a dramatic increase in new members being engaged in mission and ministry; (2) a renewed commitment in support of The Legacy Ministry; (3) The Sole to Soul Drive in which thousands of tennis shoes were donated each year for students going back to school; (4) The Higher Education Scholarship Ministry presented a record number of scholarships of which 46% went to recipients outside of Cascade’s membership; (5) a Master Planning Task Force was formed to lead in the expansion and renovation of our current facility; (6) “The Gathering,” was launched to provide a monthly Young Adult Worship Experience (20K in funding from the North Georgia Annual Conference was received to support this vision); (7) An increase in our Community Fund policy was initiated to include more money given in rental assistance and utility support; “Give It All Sunday” presented the entire collection for that Sunday to community organization and agencies in need of funds. (8) “Feeding the Five Thousand” Drive was launched to support families (5,000) with food for one or more weeks; (9) A partnership with Zoe, Inc. was formed to support orphans in Kenya for three years as they are empowered to move from poverty to entrepreneurship; (10) A new partnership with Peachtree Road UMC was launched for a “Lenten Journey to Racial Reconciliation” (on-going conversations on race, reconciliation, worship and service will continue); (11) More followers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, You Tube and public and commercial television greatly increased Cascade’s media presence; and (12)The Cascade Action Partners (CAP) strengthened Cascade’s outreach opportunities by launching Voter Registration drives, workshops and information gatherings affecting social justice. A major emphasis is being placed on our Civic and political responsibilities through Christian’s vote! More than any other one event which has impacted Pastor Murriel’s tenure has been The2020 Pandemic and the Cascade Southwest Atlanta Campus renovation project! COVID-19 caused the Church to close its doors to regular Services for over three years. This inspired Pastor Murriel to assure the congregation that “The building is closed but not the work of the Church.” Worship Services continued virtually. The work that met the times included Cascade’s becoming a Vaccination site for both the first and second vaccines against COVID-19. A major Highlight of the time outside the physical building, was the Service in the Parking Lot for major celebrations including Resurrection Sunday Services and Church Anniversary. Even during a Pandemic, God allowed Cascade to “be about our Father’s business” being a “Light in the Community.” 18 | 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CASCADE UMC
The decision to renovate the Cascade Southwest Atlanta Campus in 2020 coincided with pandemic challenges, leading to uncertainties and changes in worship and connection. Despite these obstacles, faith prevailed, and the Re-imagine 3144 Renovation Project progressed with careful planning, adaptability, and unwavering belief in our collective strength. A notable milestone was the debt-free completion of a multi-milliondollar renovation at the Cascade Southwest Atlanta Campus. Our congregation’s commitment to this project amidst economic uncertainties epitomizes extraordinary generosity, trust in leadership, dedication to our mission, and faith in our journey. In 2021, we began re-imagining ministry in a world forever changed by a global pandemic. As a result, new opportunities began to emerge, including the opportunity to launch a satellite location of Cascade UMC. Therefore, in June 2022, Cascade United Methodist Church welcomed the historic Grace United Methodist Church located at 458 Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia, into its family, symbolizing not only a merging of faith communities but also an expansion of Cascade’s reach. This acquisition deepened our connection with Atlanta’s diverse fabric, signifying a significant step forward during uncertain times. As a vital part of the unified Cascade United Methodist Church, this location extends our outreach, welcomes new members, and fosters spiritual development in bustling Midtown and beyond. We have become “One Church in Two Locations,” united by one vision and mission while maintaining each campus’ unique identity. In April 2022, Cascade re-opened for in-church worship on a limited basis. Precautions were taken to ensure the safety of the congregants. For example, face masks are available at each Worship Service and at each in-person gathering. At the May 2024 meeting of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church, major changes in the structure and the identity of the entire denomination were discussed. To preserve the denomination and respect the thinking and decision making of those peoples in cultures not our own, the new structure called REGIONALIZATION was adopted by the only body with the authority to legislate and speak for the whole denomination. “One hundred years is more than a milestone; it is our foundation. Armed with a rich history and an unwavering mission, we move forward to serve, love, and inspire for generations to come.”
To God be the Glory!

Wendi Henderson-Wyatt Wendi Henderson-Wyatt is an award-winning recording artist, songwriter, author, pastor, educator and worship leader whose powerful voice and transformative ministry have inspired audiences for more than three decades. A native of Rochester, New York, Wendi was immersed in music and ministry from an early age. Today, she is recognized as a compelling communicator and classically trained vocalist and musician who ministers with authenticity, spiritual depth and uncommon versatility. Whether singing, teaching, preaching or leading worship, her mission remains clear: to inspire people to seek God, embrace His presence and live lives of meaningful service. Wendi’s impact on gospel music reached a defining milestone with the release of her acclaimed single “No Reason to Fear” in 2016. The song became a national anthem of faith and was later recorded by internationally celebrated gospel artist JJ Hairston. Its widespread success earned Wendi a 2020 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Award as the writer of one of the year’s most-performed gospel songs. Her 2022 album, “My Heart Is Toward You,” further affirmed her artistic influence, receiving a GMA Dove Award nomination. Beyond the recording studio and concert stage, Wendi is deeply committed to developing the next generation of worship leaders, vocalists and musicians. She is the visionary behind “The Sound of Unity,” a three-day regional gathering designed to equip those serving in music ministry with the spiritual foundation and practical tools necessary to maximize their gifts. For more than 25 years, she has also trained private piano and voice students and, in 2020, expanded her educational work by launching a series of online vocal master classes. As an author, Wendi continues to strengthen the Church through insightful teaching on prayer, worship and intimacy with God. Her first book, “Giving Birth to Glory,” released in 2012, encourages readers to cultivate a life of prayer until God’s glory is revealed through them. Her latest release, “The Worshipping Church,” explores the true meaning of worship and its transformative impact on both the Church and the world. In recognition of her enduring contributions to ministry, Wendi received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Cathedral Bible College in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 2013. She and her husband of more than 30 years, Overseer Gerald Wyatt, are the founders and co-pastors of Body of Christ Worship Center in Columbus, Georgia, established in 2004. There, Wendi serves alongside her husband in preaching, teaching and pastoral leadership while overseeing the Music and Arts and Women’s Ministries. She also hosts the church’s annual Women’s Retreat, a growing national gathering that has created life-changing encounters for women since 2008. Despite her many accomplishments, Wendi considers her greatest treasures to be her husband and their children, Racquel and Christopher. Her life and artistry are rooted in a profound conviction: every person longs for the presence of God. Through every song, sermon, book and gathering, she invites others into that sacred place, believing that one genuine encounter with God can change a life forever.

FEATURED MUSICIAN
John Paul McGee Dr. John Paul McGee is an internationally recognized pianist, recording artist, composer, producer, educator, and creator of “Gospejazzical”, a signature musical language that seamlessly unites gospel, jazz, and classical traditions. Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, McGee began playing familiar hymns and church songs by ear at just four years old. Recognizing his extraordinary gift, his mother made the sacrifices necessary to provide him with formal musical training. He studied piano and pipe organ at the New Shiloh School of Music under the leadership of the renowned Dr. Nathan Carter. In 2002, he graduated from the internationally acclaimed Baltimore School for the Arts with a certificate in piano and opera studies. McGee’s artistry has taken him around the world as a pianist, keyboardist, vocal arranger, producer, and songwriter. His extensive list of collaborations and appearances includes Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Najee, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, Cory Henry, VaShawn Mitchell, Earnest Pugh, the NFL Players Choir, and numerous other celebrated gospel, jazz, and popular music artists. In 2026, McGee was named a finalist in the International Nina Simone Piano Competition—an extraordinary recognition of his artistry, technical command, and distinctive musical voice. He will compete in the final round in October 2026, performing with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. McGee released his instrumental album A Christmas with John Paul through EPM Music in 2014, earning recognition as a Top 10 Billboard recording artist. In 2019, alongside the publication of his first book, he released the solo piano album Elevate, further establishing his reputation for creating music that is both technically masterful and spiritually transformative. His groundbreaking genre, Gospejazzical, brings together the soul and sacred foundation of gospel, the freedom and improvisation of jazz, and the discipline and technical brilliance of classical music. The result is an unmistakable sound that entertains, uplifts, heals, and inspires audiences across cultural and musical boundaries. In 2022, McGee released Gospejazzical, featuring the John Paul McGee Trio and vocalists Wendi Henderson-Wyatt, Amber Bullock, and Zebulon Ellis. After hearing the album, legendary musician Stevie Wonder personally invited McGee and his trio to perform before a sold-out audience at Wonder’s annual House Full of Toys benefit concert in Los Angeles. Through radio and global streaming platforms, Gospejazzical, Volume 1 has reached hundreds of thousands of listeners and remained among the Top 100 on national jazz charts for several weeks. McGee followed its success with A Gospejazzical Christmas, which became the No. 3 most-added recording on JazzWeek and reached No. 34 on the Smooth Jazz Holiday Chart within weeks of its November 2023 release. His expanding body of work also includes Intertwined: Gospejazzical, Volume 2, a continuation of his bold exploration of faith, musical excellence, emotional wellness, and artistic connection. .
