THE BIRCH NEWS

LEADERSHIP

A Word from Michael Birch

Welcome to the first edition of The Birch News.

This publication is built to share real stories, real leadership, and real opportunity across First Nations and beyond. This cover story reflects exactly what this platform stands for. Leadership, unity, and a shared path forward. We are proud to share it with you.

At the center is Michael Birch. With decades of trust-based relationships across First Nations, business, and government, he has become a recognized bridge between communities and opportunity. His approach is simple and consistent. Build the relationship first, move with respect, and execute properly, always in a good way.

The Birch News extends the reach of The Birch Show and a growing national media network. It creates a space where communities, leaders, and partners are seen, heard, and supported. This is not just content. It is connection, visibility, and momentum.

Always, in a good way, Michael Birch FOUNDER · THE BIRCH GROUP OF COMPANIES

Behind the message is action. The Birch Group of Companies is a growing ecosystem of aligned partners across media, infrastructure, energy, environmental solutions, logistics, health, and community development. Each partnership is intentional. Each initiative is grounded in trust. Each project is built to deliver measurable impact.

Everything is guided by the Seven Sacred Teachings. Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. These are not slogans. They are the standards that shape how we engage, build, and move forward together.

This is the difference. Not short-term wins but long-term relationships. Not extraction but shared growth. Not talk but execution.

This first edition marks the beginning of a national platform where community, culture, and opportunity come together and where stories are carried forward with purpose.

Michael Birch

A Bridge Between Communities and Opportunity.

Michael Birch's work is built on a simple discipline: build the relationship first, move with respect, and execute properly. With decades of trustbased relationships across First Nations, business, and government, he has become a recognized bridge between communities and opportunity.

Born and raised with a deep awareness of the responsibilities that come with leadership, Michael's career has been defined by listening before speaking, by showing up consistently, and by translating intention into measurable outcomes. His approach is not about quick wins. It is about long-standing partnerships built on shared values.

Through The Birch Group of Companies and a growing national media platform, Michael has created spaces where Indigenous leadership, community priorities, and business opportunity meet on equal footing. The work is intentional. Each partnership has a purpose. Each project is built to deliver real impact.

His name is now associated with a particular kind of business. One that puts the relationship first, that takes the time required, and that refuses to cut corners on respect.

“
Build the relationship first, move with respect, and execute properly.

What makes Michael's leadership distinctive is the consistency of the principles behind it. The Seven Sacred Teachings: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. These are not branding. They are operating standards. They guide who is brought to the table, how decisions are made, and how communities are engaged.

Across infrastructure, energy, environmental solutions, logistics, healthcare, and community development, the through-line is the same: opportunity is real when communities are at the centre of it, when trust is the currency, and when the work is carried forward with care.

Michael's philosophy is that the work of reconciliation is not a speech or a statement. It is a hundred small decisions made the right way, every day, by people who are accountable to the communities they serve. The companies in this magazine reflect that standard.

This is the philosophy The Birch News carries onto every page. Stronger Allies. Stronger communities. Stronger futures. Always, in a good way.

“Always, in a good way.”

PROFILE

Tom Jackson

Bass-baritone. Storyteller. Humanitarian. A lifetime of showing up.

Tom Jackson has spent nearly forty years building a body of work that is impossible to reduce to a single line. Actor, singer, activist, mentor, philanthropist. He wears each title with the same easy authority, and makes the whole add up to more than the parts.

Born in 1948 on the One Arrow First Nation in Saskatchewan, the son of a Cree mother and an English father, Jackson's earliest understanding of leadership was practical. Music, he has often said, was the heartbeat of family life. By his teens he had picked up a guitar. By fifteen, he had left school and was living on the streets of Winnipeg.

He came back the way he always has, by doing the work. Through the late sixties and seventies he played folk and country and protest songs in Winnipeg clubs and coffee houses. He found theatre at Prairie Theatre Exchange. He played Eddy in Anne Wheeler's Loyalties on the way through, earning a Genie nomination.

Canadian audiences came to know him as Peter Kenidi on North of 60 and Billy Twofeathers on Shining Time Station. Sixteen albums followed, alongside guest roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Outlander, Law & Order, Cold Pursuit opposite Liam Neeson, and most recently Sullivan's Crossing. A career most people would consider complete.

The Birch Group of Companies

Building Allies. Creating Opportunity. Always in a Good Way.

The Birch Group of Companies is a network of aligned businesses brought together with a clear purpose: to serve communities, to create real opportunity, and to ensure that people always come first.

The companies featured in the following pages have each been selected with intention. Every one of them represents an Ally. Not just a business, but a partner who understands that the work is not about transactions. It is about people. It is about trust, accountability, and showing up the right way.

It is about listening first, respecting community priorities, and building relationships that last. It is about doing the work in a way that strengthens the people doing it, not just the bottom line of the company doing the asking.

Each Ally has been vetted against a single question: do they show up the way Michael Birch shows up? Do they put the relationship first? Do they execute properly? Do they understand that working with First Nations is not a market segment. It is a responsibility.

“
Stronger Allies. Stronger communities. Stronger futures.

The foundation of the Birch Group is guided by the Seven Sacred Teachings. Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth are not values posted on a wall. They are the standard. They guide how these Allies engage with communities, how decisions are made, and how work is carried forward.

This work matters. It touches homes, infrastructure, energy, transportation, and essential services that impact everyday life. These are the foundations of strong, selfsustaining communities, and they must be handled with care, responsibility, and respect for the people they serve.

The Allies in this network span indus‐tries: automotive, insurance, construction, solar, technology, supply, healthcare, and logistics. They share a single philosophy. Each one believes that communities are not customers to be sold to, but partners to be served alongside.

Together, they represent something the Canadian business landscape has been slow to build: an ecosystem where Indi‐genous priorities are not an afterthought, where economic opportunity flows back into the communities it touches, and where the work is judged not just on the deliverable, but on how it was delivered.

As you move through the following pages, you are being introduced to Allies who are committed to putting people first, standing with communities, and building something that lasts. Stronger Allies. Stronger communities. Stronger futures.

The Birch Carbon Program

Protecting the Land. Honouring the Teachings.

people are beginning

to understand the true value of the land. Not for what can be taken from it, but for what it holds, protects, and gives. For our people, this has always been known.

The Birch Carbon Program is built on that truth.

Guided by the Seven Sacred Teachings, the program honours what has always mattered. Love for the land, respect for all living things, and honesty, wisdom, courage, humility, and truth in every step forward.

Our forests, waters, and lands are not empty space. They are living, and they carry value for today and for generations to come. The carbon

held within forests is one measure of that value. Around the world, industries are beginning to pay for it, recognizing that intact forests are more valuable standing than felled.

“
This is not just carbon. This is the true value of the land, carried forward.

By measuring and protecting the carbon held within forests and natural systems, the land itself becomes a source of long-term strength. Nations can generate steady revenue while keeping the land exactly as it should be. Nothing is taken. Nothing is disturbed.

The process is done in a good way. Each Nation is first given a clear understanding of what their traditional lands may hold. Leadership guides the path through Band Council Resolution, ensuring control remains with the Nation and continues into the future.

It is not about selling what is on the lot. It is about finding what is right.

Beyond the purchase, Capital Ford offers fullservice support through maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, ensuring every vehicle remains safe and reliable. Financing is handled with the same level of care, providing flexible solutions tailored to each individual situation.

What truly defines Capital Ford Winnipeg is its approach to customer experience. Every interac‐tion is built on transparency, respect, and a genuine willingness to help. Customers are supported, not pressured, and the team consistently goes above and beyond to ensure confidence at every step.

The dealership's service department reflects the same philosophy. Vehicles are returned to customers on time and on price, and the work is explained clearly. For Indigenous community fleets and personal buyers alike, Capital Ford has become a place where the relationship continues long after the keys change hands.

This same philosophy extends into its partnership with Michael Birch and the Birch Group of Companies. Built on shared values of trust, community, and long-term relationships, the align‐ment reflects a commitment to doing business the right way while supporting broader community impact across the country.

Capital Ford Winnipeg represents more than a dealership. It represents a standard built on service, trust, and long-term relationships.

BFL Canada

Protecting Growth. Managing Risk. Building Stability.

bflcanada.ca

“
BFL serves as a bridge between risk and opportunity.

At its core, BFL is not just an insurance provider. By understanding these risks in detail, BFL connects clients with the most appropriate solutions, both domestically and internationally, ensuring stability and protection at every level.

Their model is built on collaboration, supporting clients not just during policy placement but throughout the lifecycle of their operations, including claims, growth phases, and major project execution.

For First Nations clients, BFL has developed sector-specific expertise in own-source revenue programs, infrastructure development, economic development corporations, and the unique insurance needs of Nation-owned enterprise.

Ultimately, BFL CANADA serves as a bridge between risk and opportunity, helping organiza‐tions move forward with clarity, confidence, and long-term stability.

ICMD

Bringing Healthcare Back to the Community.

icmd.ca

ACROSS CANADA, ACCESS to healthcare is not equal. For many Indigenous communities, particu‐larly in remote and northern regions, access to basic medical services, pharmacy care, and consistent support remains limited. ICMD is working to change that.

Indigenous Canadian Medical Dispens‐aries (ICMD) is an Indigenous-led health‐care organization focused on delivering modern, accessible, and community-driven medical services. Its approach is clear: bring healthcare directly to the people while ensuring communities are active participants, not just recipients.

At the core of ICMD's model is an integrated system that combines clinics, pharmacy services, and digital care. Through a network of medical professionals, patients can access doctor consultations, prescriptions, and ongoing support either in person or through telemedi‐cine.

This is about more than access. It is about ownership, dignity, and building stronger, healthier communities.

Pharmacy services play a central role. ICMD ensures patients receive not only medications, but also guidance, monitoring, and long-term support, creating a more complete level of care, particularly for those managing chronic conditions.

What sets ICMD apart is its commitment to community involvement. Working alongside First Nations, ICMD helps develop locally-driven healthcare solutions that create employment, build capacity, and ensure economic benefits remain within the community.

Technology further strengthens this model. Through telemedicine and mobile-based care, ICMD expands access in areas where healthcare services are limited, connecting patients with professionals using everyday devices.

ICMD represents more than a healthcare provider. It is a shift toward community-based healthcare infrastructure that is accessible, sustainable, and built for the future. This is about more than access. It is about ownership, dignity, and building stronger, healthier communities.
