SHIPPING JULY 2019 “A conversation with a friend, a painted cup cradled in both hands; supper with my family served at a table laid with a rich melange of dishes and plates – they’re part of the decorative landscape of my home life.

Recently I’ve found myself painting and designing a variety of ceramics for my customers; I’ve always loved decorated china and colour at my table, so it seemed irresistible to put the two loves together in my new collection of fabric designs, Table Talk, for Michael Miller Fabrics.

The plates overlapping merrily on ‘Heirloom’ do indeed reference some of my grandmother’s crockery which I still own, as well as the Breton dishes I see every year in France. Many of the cups on ‘Coffee Break’ are drawn from my collection, gathered over the years, some hand-made by friends. And ‘Bits and Pieces’ assembles glimpses of patterned fragments in an airy mosaic.

In ‘Florality’ flowers strewn across a field of bold diamonds make a lively, informal yet dressy floral, while little ‘Window Box’ packs its colour densely – a great go-with. In ‘Dotty’ there’s some simple fun with flowers, leaves and playful tomato tops, and lastly we have the stripe, ‘Sunrays’, spreading charm and rhythmic order to complement the group.

The two colour families – Paprika fizzes hot summer days, spicey warm evenings; Sorbet brings new bright pastels, sunny spring mornings, sweet gentle light.

Within each colour group the designs lend themselves to many applications, both as stand-alones or mixing and matching to build a rich patina of scale, pattern and colour.”
