PART 01

The Site & Concept

Problem Statement

Located in Paris, France, will be a 36,000 square foot boutique hotel dedicated to the luxuries of travel. The 4 story building will be placed off the main circulation of Boulevard Saint Germain, providing an intimate location with all the city has to offer within walking distance for guests.

The unique location will attract a diverse range of guests from the adventurers to the Parisian locals.

Thesis Statement

Design applications have the capability of enhancing someone’s experience in an interior environment. In the design of this Parisian boutique hotel, careful selection of sustainable materials and attention to color will provide an unforgettable experience for hotel guests.

La Promenade Boutique Hotel & Bistro is located in the heart of Paris, France, nestled within the buildings of Boulevard St. Germain. With nearby monuments and surrounding local shops and cafes, this location is ideal for both the tourist and Parisian who are wanting to embrace the city to its fullest.

The concept of this luxury hotel is inspired by a walk in Paris and is intended to evoke the feelings and moments one may experience along the way. These walks in the city are cherished for their atmosphere, but are also unique because of where their paths can lead. The parti and further spatial development in this design will serve as a reflection of these pathways and will provide a continued experience for the user after spending a day in Paris.

To articulate the beloved sights and moments of a walk in Paris, the implementation of color, texture, and lighting will further enhance this concept. With these design applications, La Promenade Boutique Hotel & Bistro will be an exclusive destination that provides each guest with an immersive and unforgettable experience.

COLOR PALETTE The color palette for La Promendade Boutique Hotel & Bistro is pulled from the most unique and prominent elements experienced on a walk in Paris. To reflect the plaster and limestone in the surrounding buildings, soft white is incorporated into the scheme. Warmth from beiges and browns is inspired by the lattes so often enjoyed at local cafes. From the petals and stems of flowers sold outside of small shops, a soft pink and saturated green is included. Finally, to bring contrast to the pastels, black is the last color within the palette to illustrate the wraught iron so commonly used to balance the limestone on Parisian buildings.

PARTI DIAGRAM To reflect different paths one may take on their walk in Paris, the Parti provides both a direct path to its destination as well as an option to take the longer route.

The inspiration behind the diagram is pulled from the surrounding streets where the hotel’s site is located.

PART 03

The Spaces

THE LOBBY Directly to the left of the main entrance is the Lobby and Reception area. The front desk is one of the first things guests see when they walk into La Promenade, detailed with intricate wainscotting and a soft pink to bring a subtle touch of elegance to the French environment.

A gallery wall is place behind the desk and continues above through the lobby and sitting areas, showcasing the different experiences one may come by during a walk in Paris.

THE BOUTIQUE & BAR To the right of the hotel’s main entrance, in the heart of the hotel, is the La Promenade Bar. The Bar serves coffee, tea, and an assortment of pastries early in the day and converts to serving alcoholic beverages in the evening for guests to enjoy throughout their stay. Custom made, the Bar’s structure is inspired by traditional Parisian architecture and elements often seen in the city such as fountains or planters. Directly above the Bar is a grid-like structure that reflects the shape below and supports hanging plants. In addition to the plants, pendant lights placed at various heights emphasize the connection between the first and second floor. Behind the hotel bar is the La Promenade Boutique. This gift shop’s facade brings the exterior to the interior, creating a “street-like” environment for hotel guests as they walk through the first floor of La Promenade.

THE GUEST SUITE La Promenade provides one guest suite per floor, which includes a studio-style layout with a seating area, separate bedroom, and bathroom with a free-standing bathtub. This suite, being the most luxurious amongst the other rooms within the hotel, is intended to be a place of relaxation for hotel guests after their long days in Paris while embracing the nostalgia of city’s ambiance.

THE CINEMA One of the many elements that elevates La Promenade Boutique Hotel amongst the others is the Cinema. Located on the fourth floor, the theatre features movies weekly exclusively for hotel guests. The Cinema includes sixteen upholstered theatre seats, providing a private environment for a night to remember with family and friends.

The Experience

DESIGN ELEMENTS To further support La Promenade’s concept of a walk in Paris, there are two different approaches to the design applications and elements within the hotel. The two styles seen in the hotel are a balance of traditional and modern. Traditional: because of the Parisian’s love for their city’s historical attributes. The traditional elements are applied in the “fixed” areas of the hotel, such as the walls and flooring. These elements serve as the background of the hotel, much like the surrounding buildings one sees on their walk in the city. Modern elements are included because of Paris’ “trendsetter” characteristics, often seen in modern art and local shops.

The modern elements are featured in the furnishings and lighting.

BRANDING La Promenade Boutique Hotel & Bistro has two logos. The primary logo (left) is meant for merchandise and larger opportunities for branding. The second (right), is intended for smaller items such as room keys and do not disturb signs.

MERCHANDISE The hotel logo can be easily applied to various merchandise concepts to be sold within the Boutique.

Branded gifts provide intentional and special souvenirs for guests to bring home with them and remember their stay at La Promenade.
