DEAN Dear Graduates: On behalf of the faculty and staff at Miami University College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science, I would like to congratulate you on successfully finishing this portion of your educational journey - and what a journey it has been. I have been so proud of the way you have handled the challenges of going to school during a worldwide pandemic. You have risen to the occasion with grace and fortitude.

During your time at Miami Regionals, each of you has written your own story.

Whether you were the first in your family to attend college, were a working parent looking to grow into a new career, or were the next in a long line of Miami graduates in your family: you persevered and succeeded. Regardless of your path, I have no doubt you are well equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.

With its foundation in the liberal arts, your Miami University degree has equipped you with a broad knowledge base and critical-thinking skills that are highly valued by today’s employers. You are ready to go wherever your path may lead you, even if that path is here, in southwestern Ohio, where you can help give our communities a brighter future.

It has been an honor to be a part of your journey. There are many opportunities for you to stay in touch - you are Miami Alumni! College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science

Degree, Honor & Distinction Graduation with distinction is awarded at the divisional level as follows: summa cum laude for the top two percent in each division; magna cum laude for the next five percent in each division; cum laude for the next ten percent. Due to time constraints, these distinctions for the commencement ceremony are determined based on the last semester’s grade point averages. Actual degree honors will include grades from the final semester.

University Honors are awarded to students who complete the course requirements of the Honors Program upon completion of the required credit hours for graduation.

University Honors with Distinction are awarded to University Honors students who complete a senior thesis in addition to University Honors Program course requirements upon completion of the required credit hours for graduation.
