SpartanTV Broadcasting Camp

SPARTAN TV BROADCASTING CAMP IS YOUR CHANCE TO LEARN FROM THE PROS! LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION SpartanTV Broadcasting Camp will give campers the hands-on experience and skills they need to write, produce and edit like true broadcasters and speak like the PROS! Campers will use our stateof-the-art television studio, iMac Lab, professional field and studio cameras and video editing software to produce their own daily news shows. Plus there will be outdoor activities, a field trip to a local news station and free lunch every day! Using the IPIE™ system created by Young Broadcasters of America, campers will learn the art of speaking on-camera, improve their interviewing skills and learn how to communicate with confidence in any situation.

June 9 - June 20 9AM - 4PM Ages 10 to 17 Open to students from any school.

SpartanTV Broadcasting Camp will teach kids the art of storytelling, the skills needed in broadcasting and the tools to communicate better. Working in partner groups, rotating roles every day, camper crews will write, produce and edit segments for daily webcasts on SpartanTV. These are uploaded each afternoon -- weather skills and technology permitting -- to our very own YouTube Channel, MCDSpartanTV. Campers will be amazed by how much they can accomplish in two sessions using Miami Country Day’s state of the art media lab and studio. In ten days of camp, last year’s campers: - Produced 7 Spartan TV News Shows! - Completed over 12 News Segments! - 1 Original Game Show! - 3 In-studio Interview Segments! - Visited CNN Latino! - Uploaded to MCDS SPARTAN TV CHANNEL every day! - Won our very own Spartie Awards!

Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and MCDS Faculty member Karen Davis, together with Beth Long, Director of Miami Country Day School’s Katherine E. Franco Center for Learning Resources, will direct the SpartanTV Broadcasting Camp for the second year. Davis’ experience ranges from documentary and news production to creating programs for NBC, Nickelodeon, MTV, HBO, Telemundo and Azteca America. Beth Long has over twelve years in the classroom and this will be her third summer at camp. Together they will guide campers to develop the technical skills they need to produce quality stories using the iMac lab, professional video cameras and broadcasting equipment.
